ACR to Jpg discards file corrections
Windows XP, Photoshop and Bridge CS3, ACR 4.4.1, monitor freshly calibrated with SpyderPro. Files captured with Nikon D300 in RAW.
When importing a RAW file to ACR, I make adjustments to white balance, exposure, brightness, etc., then attempt to save the file as a jpg and the jpg file does not retain the edits I made in ACR. Saving to Adobe RGB or sRGB has no effect. 16 bit or 8 bit, no effect. In addition, if I save as a PSD or DNG file, the edits are retained. But, if I convert that PSD or DNG from ACR to a jpg, I lose my edits and the file reverts to its original form as captured from the camera.
Folks, I'm stumped. I can't seem to locate a solution. And so far it seems others are having similar troubles but not just like mine. I thought it might be monitor calibration but have ruled that out. I thought it might be color space related but modifying color space doesn't seem to have any impact.
I'm hoping for some help. Right now I'm unable to fulfill any client orders because I don't have confidence that my file edits are being retained.
Thanks in advance.
Greg Smith
Jim and Dennis,
I don't doubt that this is color management related. My goal very simply is this - when I'm done processing an image for uploading to my web site, I want to have the confidence that the file will appear on the web site as it appeared to me in Bridge just before I saved it.
I don't know if I altered a color setting, or if something changed when I installed the CS3 version of Bridge and PS, but images that I thought were purple changed to blue when they were posted to the web or when they were sent through email.
That didn't used to happen to me, so something is different. I shoot in RAW and shoot in Adobe RGB. My process has been to open the files in Camera RAW. Adjust white balance if necessary, adjust levels, do some cropping, select all, and click on the "Save Images" button in the lower left corner of camera RAW. I have saved those files as Jpgs using the document name and into a new folder.
Until recently, I was able to view those jpg images either as thumbnails on the desktop, or using Windows Picture Viewer, Quicktime Picture Viewer, Microsoft Office picture viewer, Photoshop, PhotoImpact or Microsoft Powerpoint, and the images looked the same no matter what application. My purples stayed purple, in other words.
But now, after I click save, the purples I thought I created are blue. And it is only in ACR that they appear purple. In PS they are blue. If color management is my issue, which I agree makes sense, then I think either in ACR or Photoshop I must not have a setting establshed correctly. And I may need a step by step walk through to find it as admittedly I've only 10 months using Photoshop.
Everyone here has been great about helping me work through this so let me also say a big thank you. But it's really because this was all working for me well, and now doesn't seem to be, that I'm perplexed. I've read through other postings in the forum that sound similar to mine, but haven't been able to implement suggestions and have them solve my issues.
Jim, I've not worked in ProPhoto before, but will give that a shot to see how that goes. Maybe that'll prove to be the answer.
Where I want to finish up from my editing in ACR, is to be able to view my processed images before uploading and know with confidence that they'll appear on the web as I intend. What process gets me there, and what viewing application can I use to know that what I see is what everyone will see?
I'm hoping to resolve this this weekend and will be online a fair amount. any additional suggestions are most welcome.

HELP. ............Hi folks hope some one can help me please.Having a problem in Bridge I open my images in ACR, as I open files in a folder and lets say they are labeled in yellow they are all going back to the camera raw default , in other words no matter what work I have done, inc cropping they all go back to ,as they came out of camera. What on earth is happening? I am on PS CS6. I might point out everything was working normally up to yesterday, when this first started.
I recently changed computer to 64bit from 32bit, not sure if this causing the problem or not. Any help would be appreciated.Robert,
Would you be so kind to rephrase your question with concise, precise information and without any "let's say that" hypotheticals? Sorry, I can't quite follow you.
Also please give exact versions of Photoshop CS6 (13.what.what), of Bridge and of your OS.
Thanks.
BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.

I am using Photoshop Elements 11. Do all .jpg formatted file have to be retangular in shape? I want to create an oval .jpg picture to insert into a book. Haven't been able to do so. It would work if I could make the area outside the oval completely transparent. Can anyone help me here?
JPG does not support transparency, so even if you create an oval with transparent background, the saved JPG will have white background. Instead, save it as a PNG, TIFF, or GIF which preserve the transparency.
Here is one of many ways to create your oval:
Create a new file the approximate size of the oval. Add the oval with the Custom Shape Ellipse tool, and simplify the shape layer.
In the Layers Palette, Ctrl-click the oval to select it and copy the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
Then do File > New from Clipboard. This creates the oval with transparent background cropped to the oval size.
Then save it as one of the file types that support transparency (and also supported by the application where you are sending the picture to).
Note: Is is not even necessary to do step 2. That is only if some reason you want the oval to be tightly cropped. It is sufficient to delete the Background layer in step 1 (or turn off its visibility) and save the file. The oval will appear correctly in the book with either version. -
How to open jpg, tiff files in camera raw from elements 10 organizer
How to open JPG, TIFF files in camera raw from Elements 10 organizer.
Thanks for that Damead, I agree with you that Organiser is real pain (there is a total lack of intuitiveness if that is the correct word).
For my own work I use 'Lightroom' for around 90% of the time, only going into PSE10 for the 10% difficult bits the Lightroom can't handle.
I only needed to sort out the JPEG file opening method within PSE10 for some freinds in a small Photo Group that I run in Woodhall Spa, UK. 50% of the 12 members are beginners & a number of them do not have Raw capability on their Camera's, but now they can get their JPEG's into Camera Raw within PSE10 they have the same simple tabular form of adjustment sliders (not as many as in Lightroom of cause) but it gets over the labourious problem of going thru the PSE10's individual tool selection process each and every time since we are trying to get everyone in the Group working with individual Tools rather than the 'Auto' functions. We do this so that they learn what they are doing rather than staying 'dumb&happy' within Auto all the time & they also learn how to get more detailed control for each photo.
Ref. your comments on file handling/usage, I agree with your comments. Its far and away much more preferable to set up a file structure in 'Finder" (or in 'Explorer' if still using Windows) that you understand so you always know how to find the files. Also, I also never ever use the Camera Auto Load programme but physically 'drag & drop' photo files direct from the 'card' into the file system so I always know thier place (ie: they go into the location I want, not that which the Auto Loader wants).
As regards your comment about 'Lightroom', I don't have any problems at all since I just imported the whole of my photo file structure into the Lightroom Library Catalouge and then it automatically shows up on the LHS of the screen, still in that format, so you can search it direct within Lightroom and display all of the photo's in variuos arrangements and sizes; everything is as easy to find as it is in 'Finder' plus of cause you have all the 'Tagging' possibilities to use as well. As you add more new files into the 'Finder' structure, all you need to do in Lightroom is reimport, starting 1 level up from the new files and Lightroom will find the new files that need loading (ignoring the older ones already in the Library at that or lower levels) then 1 click and its done.
Your comments about getting others to follow a set file structure is very pertinant and also applies to evrything else that one ever does apart from just photo work; the times I have had to help others find info/files etc on their PC's because they don' know the location of anything is too many to contemplate.

Extremely large jpg exported files - help!
I was previously loving LR3 - used the trial for a month, decided to buy it - had really no problems. The big issue for me is now the jpg export file sizes that are being created. I run all my photos through the develop module to adjust the basics as well as draw in masks, and previously I had no trouble exporting the files as jpg, with the limit of size at 600kb and resized to 960x640 (original photos from 5Dmk2 RAW).
Then I bought the license. From then on it seems that now whenever I do the same exact export it doesn't work! I also used to use the output quality slider and set that at 100% and would get around the same file sizes, but now I'm getting files 2-3x the size of the previous exports. All of the photos have minimal metadata (10 keywords or so, that's it) and the same metadata was present in the exports in the trial version.
Playing around with more export parameters and reading around on this forum led me to try and minimize exif data - this didn't even work - files could not meet the requirements or they still ended up 2-3x the size they used to be.
The interesting part is that when I would delete all development history and set the file back to the original pre-edited RAW and export there would be no problems!
Could it be possible that LR is adding the development data into the metadata that it is attaching to the photo??
This has completely shut down my photo workflow and really is making me regret buying this otherwise wonderful tool.What I can see in the image is that it contains about (uncompressed) 750KB of XMP data, the major part of it relating to some "PaintCorrection" as follows:

This data results from heavy use of the local adjustment brush. Choosing "Minimize Embedded Metadata" upon export really should solve this problem for you. Please try again specifying this option.
But then, by doing so, you lose any other metadata (keywords etc.) also. To have complete control on what metadata gets written into the JPEG upon export, you could use Jeffrey’s “Metadata Wrangler” Lightroom Plugin.
I noticed one strange thing within the XMP data in your JPEG:
The data seems to be formatted differently than what I see with JPEGs I export ("HasExtendedXMP"), which I don't know where it comes from.
For further investigation, would it be possible for you to upload the Raw file and the XMP file belonging to it to somewhere (e.g. www.yousendit.com) and post a link to it here?

Cannot edit JPG, GIF files stored in a SharePoint 2010 picture library
Created a SharePoint 2010 picture library to store .jpg, .gif images along with other types of images which were created using Adobe photoshop, Tiff etc.
Upon clicking on the .jpg, .gif files for editing purposes, they open in the browser instead of Photoshop so I cannot edit these files for this reason. Other types of image files are editable but not the jpg, gif files. File associations are already
in place for these files to open in Photoshop. Please advise.
Thank you,

Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly
Hi,
I just started using the Adobe Creative Cloud as a trial, in particular the Premiere Pro CC software, since it might be relevant, I am working on a mac (completely updated as of yesterday).
I have a JVC GZ-MG505 camcorder. This device saves the video files on an internal HDD in a file format called MOD. From what I have been able to see when searching on the web, this should be nothing more than a MPEG-2 file.
So, I tried importing some video files into Premiere Pro and to my surprise, I noticed that a whole strip on the right hand side of the image is missing. The original is recorded in a widescreen (16:9) format with 720x576 pixels and Premiere Pro gives me a file with 540x576 pixels. I have tried using the Interpret Footage to change this, but it doesn't let me change the number of pixels. I also tried opening the files in Adobe Media Encoder and I have exactly the same results as in Premiere Pro. However, opening the files in VLC or mPlayer they come out exactly as expected with all the pixels there. Has anyone come accross this problem before or can anyone help me with solving this?
I could try reencoding the files with VLC, but the output file is much smaller than the input file, so I am afraid I am loosing some definition.
So, just to restate my problem, the adobe products open my MOD files without complaining, but for some reason they loose a strip 180 pixels wide on the right hand side of the image.
CheersPremiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly
That is correct: there is a bug in CC. In CS6 they work correctly.
Please file a bug report.

Can't save Publisher file correctly as PDF
I have always been able to save Publsiher files as PDF files w/o any problem. Just recently, my Publsiher documents, when saved as a PDF file, have been saving only half of each page on a two page spread. The right side of the left page and the left side of the right page are shown in the PDF document and I cannot figure out how to solve this problem. PLEASE help. I need to send the file to other members of my group and they cannot view the file correctly.
Thank you!Not sure why you ask in the Adobe Reader forum; I would think the problem is on the MS Publisher side?

Opening jpg/pdf files from Java
Hi,
How can I open jpg/pdf files or any file in general from Java, such that they open up in the default program in Windows?
I dont want to read in the files using Java. Just open them in their default program. Eg. PDF should open in Adobe.
thanks,
parsifalThanks both of you for answering.
You don't need to make a map. You need the "cmd /c
start" command in Windows.This is what I was missing. I looked up DOS commands to open a files in window but couldnt get it. So I thought java would have some command that equals double-clicking icons on window.
Thanks.

How do I stop y jpg email file from going to word?
Hi Chiogirl,
I can understand the frustration. While it's not an Adobe/Acrobat problem, I think I can point you in the right direction. You'll want to choose a different application as the default for opening JPEG images. If you're on Windows, see Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help. If you're on Mac OS, see How to change the default application for a file type | Macworld.
If you're continuing to have problems, you'll want to contact the manufacturer of your operating system.

One all null row is always in discard file of sqlldr
Hi All,
My DB is 11.1.
I used spool to generate a formatted flat data and load it to oracle with sqlldr. I found everything was fine except that the discard file was always generated.
Its content is ~~~, which is line seperator specified in control file.
But before loading, I cleansed the data with the following command and it seems that the empty line should be in the data file any more.
sed '/^ *$/d' S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat > S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat1
mv S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat1 S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat
sed '/^~~~$/d' S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat > S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat1
mv S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat1 S_PROD_INT_PLC_BK_LEON.dat
Could anyone give me some ideas on this?
Best regards,
LeonHi Kim Berg Hansen
Thank you for your reply. Besides the patterns in sed, I aslo greped the'grep '^ *~~~ *$' S_SRC_PLC_BK_LEON.dat' but no row returned.
Actually the file was generated by myself, and I think the '~~~' can only be in the last of one line.
The sample spool file looks like:
SET term OFF
SET heading OFF
SET feedback OFF
SET echo OFF
set linesize 32767
set trimspool on
SET NEWPAGE NONE
spool /home/bs7822/leon/S_SRC_PLC_BK_LEON.dat
alter session set nls_date_format = 'yyyymmdd hh24:mi:ss';
SELECT
ROW_ID||'|'||
SRC_NUM||'|'||
SUB_TYPE||'|'||
X_VISIT_SS_OVER||'~~~' FROM S_SRC_PLC_BK
where rownum<=500;
spool offYou say
Or perhaps it is on the last line and maybe missing the EOL?I checked the file with vi editor. When I used shift+G, I got to the last line of data that is not empty.
