ACR7.1/CS6/Bridge work ok in Windows 8, but...

As a MS Technet member I have access to Windows 8 RTM, so I loaded it up on a test system, and then created a Windows to Go version on a USB external drive. I de-activated CS6 from my laptop, fired up the Windows to Go version of W8 on my desktop, and then installed 64 bit CS6 on my desktop/Windows to Go drive combination.  Activation completed ok, was able to update including ACR 7.1, and all functions worked ok, except PS disabled accelerated graphics.  This was easily fixed with a trip to the Asus website for an updated driver, and afterwards I had a full functioning no excuses CS6 running on a W8 platform.
Next I moved my Windows to Go external drive over to my laptop - no problems with W8 but CS6 "lost" its activation, decided it was a trial version.  And of course when I tried to activate it informed me I was at my limit of two.  So it's clear (and probably should not have been any surprise) that the activation process also "fingerprints" the hardware platform, and at least at this point doesn't travel over on an external drive.  If I wanted to move PS from computer to computer with the W8 drive I would have to deactivate after each use, and re-activate on the new system.  BTW I had a moment of panic when I moved W8 back to my desktop, CS6 came up in trial mode and I had visions of having lost my second activation.  However, upon re-entering the serial number it gracefully accepted activation, apparently recognizing that an existing activation was in effect.
This is obviously not just an ACR subject, but I stuck it here out of laziness, and hopefully the info will be useful to those planning a migration to W8.  I have no problems with W8 in general, although of course one has to learn how to navigate the new interface, not a big issue IMO.

Interesting.
Might not matter, though, to those upgrading to Windows 8 in the more "traditional" sense - i.e., putting it on one system and using it there.
I've written a book on how to tweak Windows 8 to get the best desktop experience out of it (and Metro be damned), so I've been through Windows 8 pretty thoroughly...  So far, having worked with the RTM code now, I'm singularly unimpressed.  Why did they feel they needed to carve out all the desktop visual styles?  It's so flat it feels like sand in the eyes!
About the only thing it seems to bring to the party is leanness - since they've carved out so much stuff, Windows 8 can be run with about half the system impact Windows 7 has.  Other than that I'm not seeing any reason to want to move to it - for the first time in all the versions of Windows ever released.
Do you have an ATI video card in your test system, or are you running it in a virtual machine?  I ask because apparently the Catalyst 12.8 release is supposed to be compatible with Windows 8, and I'm curious how well it works.

  • You Tube requires Flash update. Worked for laptop Windows 7 but not PC Windows Vista. Can you help?

You Tube said I needed latest Adobe Flash Player, so uninstalled old version and reinstalled latest version 11.6.602.171 on PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS.  My system says it's there, but it still won't work on You Tube - still get same message saying Ineed latest version.
Had same message on my Laptop running Windows 7 and it updated and works fine.  I use Internet Explorer 9.
Detailed Problem Description: Problem with downloading latest Adobe Flash update and viewing YouTube.  On PC running Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 32-bit OS, You Tube home page red banner at top said I needed to install latest Adobe Flash Player but even after installing, it does not work and will not play most videos in browser and shows black screen with message still asking to download latest version.  Seems to be rather random as to which videos it will play and which ones it won't, although there may be some common link (see examples below).  I thought it might have been HTML5 problem but I have successfully played HTML5 and Non-HTML videos through Adobe test site (Adobe Flash Player Help/Video Playback Issues) as well as Stage Videos. (Note: Had same You Tube messages when viewing on Laptop running Windows 7 but that updated without problem.)
Ran Adobe Uninstall. Closed all other programs before reinstalling direct from Adobe (rather than You Tube link). No change.
Ran all Adobe troubleshooting suggestions listed at http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html#main_2__Disable_Ac tiveX_Filtering__if_you_are_using_Internet_Explorer_9_.
Removed browsing data and deleted cache, checked that Internet Tools\Safety\Active X filtering was disabled (but in Internet Option\Security, Active X controls are enabled), disabled Hardware Acceleration, restarted computer but no change to You Tube viewing.  Re-enabled, but no change.  (WOULD LOVE ADVICE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE IF I SHOULD KEEP THIS ENABLED OR DISABLED.)
I have updated graphics drivers for NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT- although had to do manually as NVIDIA auto system scan said "could not detect your GPU". Noted they said Windows Vista supports up to Direct X 10, but my system is running Direct X 11.  Had optional update message for "nVidia Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM 1.2, other Hardware NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT" on both PC & laptop.  Laptop downloaded fine. Tried to download on PC but was not successful. Error Code 80070103, possibly because system had already been updated? Current driver version 9.18.13.1407 - "Windows has determined that your current driver software is up to date".
Running Norton 360 but it did not block or indicate any problems with Flash Player download.

    Dear Chris,
Thanks for reply.  I ran the recommened Adobe uninstall program so assumed it deleted whatever it should have, before installing new version.  When it didn't work I followed instructions in Flash Player help page (screen shot below) which said to delete the Roaming App Data/Macromedia/Flash folder and Roaming App Data/Adobe/Flash folder, which I did.
Below are screen shots of C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash files as they currently stand.  I have a fuzzy recollection that it was deleted at some point because I think I went searching for it during one troubleshooting session and it couldn't be found (but maybe I'm geting confused with the App Date folders?).  Anyway I presume these current files are all post-reinstallation as the dates are all 5 or 6 March (did them before and after midnight).  I'm on Australian time - not sure where you are. However, notice install.log date is 21/05/2010 and Flash Player Trust sub-folder is dated 6/09/2008.
When I right click on the screen of both videos that will and won't play, I just get a list of options starting at "Copy video URL" down to "About HTML5".   So not sure what you mean when you say "For the videos that do play, when you right click on them what version of Flash Player is reported at the bottom of the context menu?" as I can't see any info like this.  Do I click somewhere else?
If you are able to get the info you are after yourself, two videos that will work are:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLKlTN1JN7w and
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGbrFmPBV0Y
Also, with hardware acceleration enabling or disabling, the only place I can find to do this is through the Adobe Flash Help page http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html#main_2__Disable_Ac tiveX_Filtering__if_you_are_using_Internet_Explorer_9_
and right clicking on the Flash Player info box, going into Settings and checking or unchecking the Enable box.  Do you know if there is another setting in my actual computer where I can do this and or there's some other setting I need to change?  There doesn't seem to be anything similar when I go through Conrol Panel - Flash Player.
    5. Delete all Flash Player browsing data

    6. Remove Flash Player cache
a.. On your computer, select Start > Run. (On Windows 7, click Start and type in Search Programs and Files.)
b.. Type %appdata%\Adobe and click OK.
c.. Delete the Flash Player folder.
      d.. Repeat step 1 and type %appdata%\Macromedia.
e.. Delete the Flash Player folder.

  • Drivers Work Perfectly in Windows 8 but NOT in Windows 8.1

Due to several reasons, most of which pertain to Windows Store app compatibility, I want to upgrade to Windows 8.1. However, I tested the preview beforehand to make sure everything driver-wise was compatible... Everything is fine, except for my Atheros
AR9285 wifi adapter. For reasons a bit to complicated to explain in this paragraph, I am using the Windows XP driver for this adapter. Please don't say the driver is too old, and that's why it's not working, because I am well versed in drivers and versioning.
BTW, this driver works perfectly in Windows 8. Just NOT in Windows 8.1. Any help would be appreciated as I am currently ripping my hair out.

  • No audio in firefox, works fine in IE & Chrome. Have Dell E6500 running Win 7 Pro 64 bit. every thing works with native windows driver but with not IDT driver

I have no Audio in Firefox. I think this is an old problem with Dell IDT driver and Firefox. Flash is installed, I have uninstalled and re-installed two or three times, removed pluggins and put them back to no avail. The native win 7 driver from 2010 works okay in all browsers including firefox but I would like an up-to-date driver that works. The latest IDT driver for my Dell e6500 running Win 7 pro works great in IE and Chrome but not Firefox.

I don't think there was any setting I could change on the driver. Firefox did not show up in the mixer or volume control. It is there with the native win 7 driver. This driver doesn't seem to see Firefox. I just got this computer, but looking for help, posts three years ago on the web seemed to have this problem with the Dell e6500 and Firefox.

  • Airport Works in Parallels (Windows XP) but not in OS10.4.9

I'm using a Macbook Pro Core2Duo that is only a couple weeks old.
I can connect to my home network, but I am unable to use firefox OR safari to pull up any webpages. I am able to use firefox and IE in parallels (Windows XP).
Using firefox in OSX it tries to connect for a couple minutes before it gives me the network problems error page.
This didn't happen until I tried to connect to a college network at one of my friends campuses. I had changed the network connections to use a .pac file to set up the proxy in firefox. But, I have since changed it back to both "directly connect to internet" and "automatically figure out proxy settings".
    Does anyone have any ideas?

It is necessary to look in properties of connection: the network address is received by DHCP server or not.
If the address is present, it is possible to try to transfer network settings Connection/Support(gateway and DNS) from Parallels XP to settings in Airport/TCPIP.

  • IPod Shuffle works on one Windows computer, but not another

My shuffle shows a full list of songs from my music library in the contents window. However, when I restore it, it still shows the same list in the contents window. When I try to play the shuffle, I get flashing green and amber lights.
I can restore the shuffle and add songs to it on another computer and it plays properly, but then when I go back to the original computer, it still shows the full list in contents, not just the couple of songs that should be there.
I can't seem to be able to restore it from my original computer either. I run the restore, but the same list shows in contents. I have also tried selecting all songs and deleting them and then restoring, but no luck.
Is there some sort of conflict going on? The original computer is a network computer. Does that have anything to do with it? Both computers have the same version of iPod and iTunes installed.

    Johnston,
Try creating a numerical indicator (or cluster indicator, etc.) on the front panel of your program of the data being fed to the graph. This will allow you to see the numerical values being fed to the graph itself while the program is running. Let us know what you find.

I tried to verify my plug-in's and all are enabled. I found where was suggested to remove and reinstall Firefox but that did not fix problem either. I tried to change viewer for videos but still no luck. Not certain why Quicktime doesn't work. Note, videos when browsing will not open but everything else works fine. Videos work fine with windows Explorer, but not Firefox.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • FingerPrint Sensor/Software not working right with Windows XP Pro SP3

    Hi All,
I have a 3 month old Satellite Pro S300-S2504 (2.4 GHz CPU, 3 GB RAM, Bluetooth, firewire - was a custom build with most of the options I could get). The O/S installed was/is Vista Business. It came with a dowgrade XP Pro SP3 disc as well.
I bought a second hard drive - swapped it with the original and installed Windows XP Pro on it - having grown tired of Vista. I don't intend to keep both O/S's - but I didn't want to mess with what I had until I got XP working - and that's the reason I got the second hard drive for XP. Anyway, XP Pro is installed and working except the fingerprint sensor. As soon as I booted for the first time - with nothing but the factory everything installed, it prompted me to register fingers for the sensor. I tried but I got a database not found error followed by a sensor not working error. I got the latest updates for the fingerprint sensor, removed what I had - rebooted and installed the newer program - I got the same error. I then uninstalled the program again, went through the registry and removed all entries whose key had TrueSuite in it, rebooted and installed the latest version again - rebooted - and got the same errors. Looking in Device Manager, the sensor is working fine but once I try to register a finger and it fails, I then look in Device Manager and the sensor has a yellow error indicator. I used System Restore to go back to the original configuration and then tried the Fingerprint drivers/patches for Vista and for Windows 7. All of them installed but I got the same database not found error followed by the fingerprint sensor not working error.
I did end the program, then using Task Manager, I ran the Fingerprint utility as administrator - still got the same errors. I've completely reinstalled from the Windows XP restore CD four times trying to solve this and I can't get the fingerprint reader to register fingerprints - I always get that error.
I have a lot of graphic editing (movies) software as well as file conversion programs and a very stable version of Roxio Easy Media Creator that all works fine in Windows XP - but it all has problems running in Vista and I'm tired of the bugs that Vista seems have - and I want to use Windows XP Pro. I will try any suggestions.  The fingerprint sensor and software works reliably in Vista. I even updated it and that went fine. I suspect there's a problem with the XP version of the software for my computer. I did notice that Toshiba doesn't sell the this model series with XP downgrade as an option anymore. I wonder if this is one of the reasons.
Anyway - I would very much appreciate help with this. Any ideas at all are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Dennis

..a clean Win XP Pro install and it still doesnt work. There is a Win Xp key on the bottom of the laptop, but I cant seem to use it.
The Product Key that comes with the computer is useless to activate a retail installation. You would need to purchase a new one or convice Microsoft that an old one is no longer in use.
In the device manager it shows
    Ethernet Controller
    Multimedia Audio Controller
    Network Controller
Unknown Device needing Drivers. I have searched and downloaded drivers and installed them but it still doest work.
    Get the drivers from here.
Install the chipset utility first, followed by the display driver. Be sure to install the common modules prior to any Toshiba utilities, including power management.

  • Does External DVD Drive rm475e work with a Windows 8 Operating System

It worked fine with Windows 7 but doesn't seem to work with Windows 8?

    Hello Orchard80,
Thats a good question. You never know about Windows 8.1 and compatability.
There is no driver to download because DVD drives all use pretty much the same generic driver that comes built into Windows already. So I logically one would think that it should work on 8 as well.
The manual states that it is supported from Win-2000 through Win-7 only. But it came out before Win 8 also.
Is the drive recognized in the device manager under CD/DVD drives? Type in Device Manager in Windows 8 Search and select it from the list.
If not, the only thing I can think of is to run the Windows Fix-it Tool to see if it helps.
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us
If it still is NOT recognized after the Fix-it tool, then apperently the drive just will not work with 8.
IF it is recognized in the system but wont work, there is something else we can try but I will wait to hear back from you first.

  • HT203164 Cannot print CD Jewel Case Insert using Windows 7; iTunes print options work fine from Windows XP; using iTunes print option CD Jewel Case Insert with Windows 7 prints jumbled mess?

Cannot print CD Jewel Case Insert using Windows 7.  iTunes print options work fine with Windows XP, but attempting to print CD Jewel Case Insert from Windows 7 yields jumbled mess.

I'm having the same issue - when I try to change any print options iTunes freezes and I have to end the process in Task Manager... I was trying to turn off duplex printing and the printer option screen wouldn't take any input. I changed the default printer properties to turn off duplex; iTunes did not reflect the updated preferences. It looks like there is an unknown issue with the printer setup module - guess that doesn't get much use anymore or Q/A should have picked up the issue...

Good luck with that, and don't forget to deactivate CS6.
My system is slowing down after nearly two years, and I am dreading a reinstall - there always seems to be something you have forgotten!  What really worries me is what happens to existing raid0 arrays seeing as the mainboard needs drivers.   They are backed up, but I just don't trust a single level backup, and will have to add a further 3Tb of drive space to make a straight copy of the raid0 arrays.  I also like the idea of Windows 8.1, but dread finding out that the drivers don't work!
The Premiere Pro hardware forum is the perfect place to ask about stuff like that.  Harm, Bill, Erik etc. are super clued up on such things, so I shall run my concerns past them before committing.
So I wish you good luck again, and I know you'll make a plan before going ahead with it.

  • Bridge CS6 will not start in Windows 7

    Bridge CS6 (both 32 and 64) don't start in Windows 7.
Bridge starts in Task Manager for a few seconds, but goes away.  No errors, no logs.
I have tried all the suggestions I've found within the forums, including checking settings,, temp environment variables, deleting C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS6 (including the directory itself), etc.  No luck.   Adding a new user, then using it to start Bridge worked great, but that is not really a solution.  One added piece of info:  Bridge did recreate the above directory before dying, although it remains empty.  I haven't found any logfiles that might help understand how far it got.   Is there a log file or a registry setting that will enable detailed logging to help diagnose this?
I managed to gather a temp xml file that has some info that might help.  This file shows up for the few seconds when Bridge is running.

There is obviously something in my normal user's profile or environment that is getting in the way of startup.  Yes, my normal user is an admin. You (Adobe) have the code and the startup can't be that convoluted. Someone should be able to walk the code, figure out what things are checked between creating the above directory and the next externally detectable step (like creating a file in this directory or logging something into a log file), then reply here with a list of specific things to check.
I got into a chat with Adobe support several days ago, where I went through several steps of ensuring I was using a properly licensed version only to be told that he didn't know Bridge and asked that I call during the day on Monday. The sign off message to that chat was funny - they mentioned 24x365 support :-) Luckily, I've worked support in my past and I have a sense of humor.
I tried to file a bug form the web, but failed to navigate the amazingly bad support web experience of Adobe.com.  At one point, I had found a place to do it, pasted the above into that window, then tried to submit - I wasn't logged in.  So, I clicked the login link and got an error pop-up window with a bad-link error.  I came in fresh - logged in, then could not find that "report a bug" screen again.  Truly amazing.  But I guess, if you cannot report a bug, it doesn't exist - so congratulations on your bug-free products.
    A suggestion:
Provide a simple link to report a bug that's not tied to a service plan.  It would simply be a way to tell you about problems with the hope that a solution could be provided in a future release - these can optionally be logged to the forums for community involvement.  I don't mind logging in to prove I'm a valid user.

Adobe staff has to browse these forums on their own time (I know that should be part of their job) so their visits are infrequent.
There are several sites to report bugs which seems to be counterproductive.   I think this one has the most support right now. http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
And you are sure you are not running Bridge CS5 in the background?  You can only run one Bridge program at any one time.
In both the Mac and Win OS seems like the workaround to create a new user works frequently, but it is a hassle.  In your problem solving did you unistall everything then run the Adobe Script Cleaner?
Although this is a stretch for this problem, but might search your uninstall directroy and see if there are any expired Adobe trials you have not uninstalled.  For whatever reason it can stop launch of Bridge "as you need to launch parent application at least once".  Apparently even though it is long gone it is still seeing it as "parent" program.  As I said it is kind of a stretch here, but you never know.
Good luck on this as I know it is extrememly frustrating and Adobe does have its communication problems.
That is why it is important for the users to step up and start contributing to these forums with suggestions on what to try, thiings they have tried and worked or did not, etc.
