Acrobat (10.1.3) crashes when exporting a pdf from InDesign (7.5.2)

So every once and a while I export a file to pdf from InDesign and Acrobat crashes.  Sometimes it doesn't crash until I reduce file size.  It always happens when it is actually saving the file.  Usually I am overwriting a file with a newer version but not always and either way I get a crash.  I copied my crash report below.  Please help.  This reduces my productivity greatly.

I'm going to leave this open here in case anyone has some ideas, but since this is an Acrobat crash (it looks like it might have something to do with security), you should cross post in the Acrobat forum.

  • Can you retain text highlighting when exporting to PDF from InDesign?

    Hi,
I have several publications that are now going to be reviewed by another individual and I was planning to export them to PDF.
However, I've already highlighted bibliographic references, table call outs, figure call outs in the InDesign file using different colors and I was wondering if there is a way to retain that highlighting when exporting to PDF? Just thought it might make their life a little easier since I already have all that done in the file.
    Thanks!

Ah ha! Got it! All I needed was your prompt! I looked to make sure that it was set up as conditional text and noticed the Show/Hide option at the bottom of the pop-up. (I knew I saw something before that would allow this, but couldn't remember where!)
    Thanks for jogging my memory!

  • Is there a way to automatically set the file name in Acrobat Properties when exporting a PDF from Indesign?

When I used Quark to make a PDF, the title area in the PDF was automatically populated with the file name, there in the properties tab. We like use this area to confirm file names of original files, so we can keep track of drafts, (in case the file name of the PDF is changed, which our boss often does). Is there any way to set up InDesign to do the same?

    @stadlock – I think I know what you mean…
You exported to PDF and changed the file name in the export dialog to a different one from the document name presented there the first time you exported that document. And in exports after that the new name will be presented in the dialog instead of the name of the document.
What you can do against that?
    1. First time you want to export: Save before the document is exported. And do not save after it's exported with a new file name.
    2. After the new file name is already there in the export dialog:
Type in the document name in the dialog. Export. Or abort after chosing a export preference. Save. Check again, if the document's file name is in the export dialog. If yes, procede like in suggestion #1. If not do a full export with the document's file name, save and then procede with suggestion #1.

  • Is there a page size limit when exporting a pdf from InDesign?

My indd file is 201x40 inches with a 1.5 inch slug. When I export to pdf I get this message, "The document page size exceeds the page size range supported in PDF files. Exported pages will be resized to fit within PDF limits."

Although the PDF spec mentions that it's feasible to create a PDF as large as 15,000,000 inches in either direction, 200 x 200 inches is Distiller’s limit for PostScript. It’s based on the Windows printer driver limitation.
If I read the quote below correctly, the maximum page size is 15 million inches (381 km).
"This is from the PDF Reference 1.6:
    177. In PDF versions earlier than PDF 1.6, the size of the default user space unit is fixed at 172 inch. In Acrobat viewers earlier than version 4.0, the minimum allowed page size is 72 by 72 units in default user space (1 by 1 inch); the maximum is 3240 by 3240 units (45 by 45 inches). In Acrobat versions 5.0 and later, the minimum allowed page size is 3 by 3 units (approximately 0.04 by 0.04 inch); the maximum is 14,400 by 14,400 units (200 by 200 inches).
Beginning with PDF 1.6, the size of the default user space unit may be set with the UserUnit entry of the page dictionary. Acrobat 7.0 supports a maximum UserUnit value of 75,000, which gives a maximum page dimension of 15,000,000 inches (14,400 * 75,000 * 172). The minimum UserUnit value is 1.0 (the default)."

  • SWF animations not working properly when exported as PDF from InDesign

I'm using InDesign CS5 and have created a document that I want to add interactivity and animations to. I've created buttons and page destionations, etc, which all work perfectly  when exported to a PDF but the simple animation that I wanted to include don't work. The animations have been created in InDesign then selection exported as a SWF file and then imported and placed in InDesign and then exported as an interactive PDF where the animations either don't work, haven't been picked up or don not work as they should. What am I doing wrong, how do I get the animations to work correctly?

  • Hyperlink rollover when exporting to PDF from InDesign

I am creating an interactive PDF in InDesign. The first page has links to different URLs. I would like to change the text that shows up with the rollover text over each hyperlink when viewed as a PDF. It shows the URL automatically, I'd like to write the company name associated with each site to make it look more streamlined. Is there a way to do this? Thanks!

  • Disable printing when exporting to PDF from Indesign

Hi  I need to create a T&C form which will be emailed out to clients, the sales team have requested that this should be readable but not printable as a PDF in a small step in saving the environment. I actually achieved this last week and now for the life of me cannot work out how to do it again. Would anyone be able to help?  Many thanks, Claire
NB: unchecking the 'Print Layer' in the Layer Options box does not work, sadly neither does ticking the 'Nonprinting' option in the Attributes window. I have a feeling it was something in the export dialog box but definitely not a security ermissions option as the PDF I created last week doesn't require a password and yet won't print.

If you're hoping to prevent a PDF document from printing with sneak-around backdoors, you'll be disappointed.
Anyone who breaks an expensive scanner platen glass by placing or dropping a CRT monitor on it, when following Eugene's illustrated example, might be permanently dissuaded. Making a screen shot with the computer's own tools, or a camera's phone is easier and safer.
If your hope is simply to always prompt the user to reconsider killing trees needlessly, it may be possible to intercept a print request made from the Acrobat display software in use at the time (Acrobat, Reader, Web browser window, Mac Preview, etc.) and display an alert to think about printing before proceeding. If this kind of print request can't be intercepted, you could consider creating a button in the document labeled "Print," but which displays an alert and gives the option to proceed or cancel. Perhaps there a script solution for what you need.
If your hope is to make it as difficult as possible for someone to print a PDF, consider converting text to outlines and/or incorporating a patterned background behind text, to disable easy Optical Character Recognition, and to "contaminate" graphics. However, a clever Photoshop user might be able to minimize the graphic pattern.
NOTE: Enabling Acrobat's security to disable screen readers does not disable the ability to select and highlight on-screen text, but it does prevent copying the text to the clipboard.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI Standard crashes when we create pdf from scanner

We are using adobe acrobat XI standard, version 11.0.06
    WIndows 7 Pro 64 bit
    scanner: Xerox documate 4799
Acrobat crashes when we create pdf from scanner

Spent quite a while on this one..  My problem was related to twain drivers which reside in c:\windows\twain_32.  I'm running windows 7 64-bit.  First it's usually possible to scan in windows 7 maybe vista and from adobe without even using twain (using WIA).  So try renaming the twain_32 folder to _twain_32 and see what happens...  If that stops the crashing look at the contents of the twain folder.  I had a Dell folder for some printer I wasn't even using.  That was causing the crash. I removed the dell folder and renamed the twain folder back to twain_32.  Now everything works as designed.

  • Adobe in Design CS6 crashes when exporting to pdf

I am running MAC OSX version 10.8.5 and every time i am trying to export a pdf from inDesign CS6 is chrashing. And i am doing the same loop again and again with the same results.
The inDesign file is large (<8gb) and most of the items inside are embended. Thought i did this procedure several times in the past and everything was working fine.
How can i possibly solve this issue?
Any ideas why this is happening?

I am using inDesign to create a product catalogue that consists more than 1000 HQ photos that are linked as psd files. After i am embending each link to the inDesign file in order to have everything in one file and not spending time to find links that are unlinked. In that inDesign file i use 5 master pages. Each product has it's own description bellow. Collecting all texts will be a very time consuming procedure.
I used to export in pdf previously but now something happened wrong? Might be an update of inDesing?
When trying to export a single page it does it. When trying to export 50 pages it crashes. Any help please?

  • Error in character spacing when exporting to pdf from word 07

I am having trouble with exporting to pdf from MS Word 07.  The character spacing throughout the document is wacky.  This also happens when exporting to pdf from a GIS program.
    Any help?

I use the term export because that is how it is done in the GIS software that I use - ArcMap 10.
In MS Word I access Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 through the print menu. I am using Windows 7.
I do not always have this trouble, but it started yesterday on a 30 page word doc and then after that, it started on an ArcMap doc.
As for embedding fonts, when I check the Word doc as you suggested, i see many different fonts listed.  Some are embedded, some embedded subset, some are not embedded at all.  I use styles to manage font types and heading levels.  There is nothing fancy about it - all Times New Roman.

  • Background Colour Incorrect when exporting to PDF from Crystal Reports 2008

    Hello All
When exporting to PDF from CR2008 the background colour of the crosstab is incorrectly displayed. The problem is as follows to create a crosstab with a grey header row and column details in white we have used the following trick.
Format Cross Tab Border Background is set to Silver.
Crosstab Expert Grand Total Background colour is set to white.
The result is a crosstab with header in grey and details in white.
This report displays correctly in CR2008, and exports as seen on screen to everything but PDF. When exporting to PDF the Crosstab is completely grey taking on only the Background colour of silver, and ignoring the Grand Total Background colour being set to white.
What is strange that when I print to PDF the format is also displayed exactly as required,
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Some additional details.
    CR2008 version 12.3.1.683
    Adobe Reader version 9.3.3
    Windows XP Professional

If this is a big issue for you then please purchase a case and a Rep can duplicate and escalate to R&D.
As a work around export to Editable RTF and in Word 2007 you can get a PDF export plug-in and then export to PDF.
    Thank you
