Acrobat 10.1.4 on mac freezes during installation

Acrobat update downloaded and started to install on my Mac but froze during installation and will not allow me to do anything.  I can not quit out of the installation or restart my computer.  Any suggestions???

Holding the power key on your computer should allow you to restart your computer. You can also try to force quit the installer.

  • Ports not working--mac freezes during hardware test

My immediate problem is my mac freezing during the hardware test. I know it can take some time for the test to be completed, but it was over an hour and it was frozen at "2 min 16 seconds," and the mouse and keyboard aren't recognized. Even during the short test.
I held the power button down and turned it off.
The bigger problem is non-functioning ports. First it was the firewire ports to my maxtor hard drive and then my lacie superdrive. And it's not the cord or the units. They work other places. That was approx. a month ago. I didn't worry too much and went back to the internal drive.
Then today my internet stopped working. The modem is not reading the computer and the computer is not reading the modem. The modem works fine with my laptop thank goodness (although it's a PC we bought for the kids to play computer games on and it's driving me crazy!). So the modem and cord are fine.
Then a couple of my USB ports were not happy today. One wouldn't read my daughter's ipod touch, but then later did (?).
And to go back to the very beginning, sometimes when I put the computer to sleep, it freezes on a black screen with a working mouse pointer, but nothing else and I have to force quit. If it goes to sleep on its own, it's fine.
Here's what I have done today: done the PRAM boot, some other command-option-O-F boot, tried the hardware test twice--it froze twice. Repaired all the permissions, reset the thing. All this I found out on the discussion groups.
I have read a lot of posts of similar problems and tried what was said there.
Am I heading for a crash? I cant back up my new stuff because the firewires are non-functional. I can't burn bunch of stuff to discs because the superdrive is going bad and won't burn properly (which is why I bought the LaCie which my computer now won't recognize.
I can't get anything off my computer except in bits and pieces with 2GB usb drive.
I know I'm rambling, but I've just spent 5 hours trying to fix this thing. Any suggestions? I'm going to take it in to the apple store to get it repaired tomorrow, but I'm worried I will lose all my data. Also I am scared of what it will cost. Is there anything else I could do tonight?
I'd love to have something else to try. Many thanks,
    Barbara

    HI Barbara,
It sounds like the hard drive is failing or has failed. Boot from your Mac install disc and if you can run Disk Utility in case the startup disk needs repairs.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
If you cannot boot from your install disc, try booting in Safe Mode
    What is Safe Mode

  • Installing Leopard freezes during installation..

    hi.
im updating my old tiger powermac to leopard and its freezing during installation..
i cant take the disc out and try the original discs as it seems like it needs the disc to boot from.
ive held down the space bar but it doesnt eject.
    any ideas?
    thanks

    hi.
i have both discs (leopard and snow leopard as retail)...
at the moment it wont start in safe mode... it just doesnt startup and until i take my finger off shift it wont go anywhere other than the white apple screen.
i have tried dragging the install disc using disc utility to the macHD and erase the destination... now all it has done is create a clone of the install disc on the internal HD.
I put my other mac in target disc mode with the snow leopard disc in and tried to use startup disc to restart from it but it didnt show up as available... so im stuck...
i cant eject the disc, its not installing properly and my internal HD isnt bootable...
    any ideas?

  • Microsoft Word for Mac Freezes During Time Machine Backup

Since upgrading to Lion, I have found that when Time Machine is performing a backup that word for Mac freezes.  I have all software updates for both Mac and MS.  Running on 17" MacBook Pro.
    Any ideas?
This appears to be the same issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2403912?start=0&tstart=0
    Thanks in advance.

The Time Machine backup data on the network device is corrupt. The first thing you should do, if that's your only backup, is to make another complete backup to a locally attached storage device. One backup is never enough to be safe. Network backups are less reliable than local ones.
After that, hold down the option key and select Verify Backups from the Time Machine menu in the menu bar (not the Dock icon.) This operation may take a long time. If the menu-bar icon (a clock that runs backwards) isn't showing, check Show Time Machine in menu bar in the preferences.
If you continue to get panics, erase the backup device. With an AirPort device, you do that from within the AirPort Utility application; see its built-in help for details. All backups will be lost, so don't do this until you've backed up to another device. After erasing, select the device again as a backup destination in the Time Machine preference pane. The first backup should be made over a wired connection, if possible.
If you still have problems after erasing the device, it should be replaced.

  • Trying to re-install Acrobat 8, everything freezes during installation & have to reboot

Hello. I've been having problems with my Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard software for months now. At some point, it got so dysfunctional that I was no longer able to create new PDF files, although I could still add comments and mark-up existiing PDFs. So finally, I decided to uninstall and re-install the software, hoping that this would solve the problem. Well, the uninstall went great, but then re-installing turned out to be impossible, apparently. I successfully downloaded the .exe file (all 327MB of it). But whenever I start the installation, once it get to the point where I'm asked to enter the Serial Number (and I do manually, as for some reason it doesn't allow me to paste it into the form in the dialog box), then it says that the installation of the components is starting (or something like that), and then the installation freezes, my entire computer freezes, and I have to do a forced shut-down. When I reboot, nothing has been saved of the installation procedure, and I have to start all over again. This has now happened three times, exactly the same way, and I'm getting extremely frustrated. I paid $320 for this software, so I expected it to last more than 3 years!
Please help me to resolve this problem - as simply and as quickly as possible! Thanks.

    Hi Gautham,
Thanks so much for your response. I have an Acer TravelMate 6292 that runs Windows Vista Business. I have to say that when I first bought and installed the Acrobat 8.0, the PDF maker crashed frequently, but over time, as updates and fixes became available, it performed much better. But then a few months ago, it stopped allowing me to create new PDFs, which is a major drawback, obviously. That's why I decided finally to uninstall and reinstall, hoping that this would solve the problem. It seems I was very wrong!
As for other hardware or software changes, I have over time installed what most people have, probably, like my Canon and HP printers and scanners, McAfee anti-virus, iTunes, Nero, Skype, WinRAR, 'File-zilla', Open Freely, and so on. There is one weird software that got installed when I bought an external disc-drive: it's called 'ODD firmware' and I can't seem to get rid of it (it doesn't uninstall). But I don't know if that would affect the Acrobat.
Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

  • Flash Player Installer 10.1 freeze during installation at 95% (mac OS 10.6.4)

When i try to install flash player 10.1 on my macbook pro (Intelcore2duo, mac os 10.6.4, Safari 5.0.1), installer freeze at 95%.
    Impossible to install it.
    Any idea ?
    Thank's.
    David

Thanks for getting back. Yes, as I mentioned, I did uninstall all other Flash Players and restarted because I had read about that tip. I also tried downloading it from the .pkg and no luck there. Also from Safari instead of from Firefox. Is this Flash Player 10.3.183.7 a stand-alone plug in or is it an update to one I should already have? Also, what is the Flash Player Debugger for. I am a mac OS 10.6.8, intel based. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.3 freezing during installation? Please help!

I have a 13" Macbook with Mac OS X 10.4.11 and am trying to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (which I bought from the Apple store).  I am having trouble with the installation, as it freezes every time I get to a certain point in the "Installing" screen. It was freezing around the 40 min. mark, and so I tried the various options that the installation CD gave me. Such as going into disk utility and doing the "first aid" stuff where everything seemed to check out fine.  None of that helped, and it kept freezing at the same point, sometimes going all the way to a screen that says, "Install Failed, the installer could not copy the necessary support files."  I double checked all of the system requirements, and I originially didn't have enough memory, but freed up space for the installation.
I then tried the last option on the installer troubleshooting by backing up my files on an external hard drive and then erasing the memory through disk utility.  Now I can't get back onto my original computer drive when selecting a startup disk, as it only lets me see the installation CD to select. Erasing didn't help, except that now it freezes at 29 minutes instead of 40. I can't even eject my CD, I'm assuming since there is nothing else for my computer to run on.  I'm not a genius with computers, but I was simply following the instructions that came with my software.  Now I can't even get back to those instructions, since they were only available on my previous hard drive, and not in the actual disk packaging (which seems kind of silly). I'm planning on calling Apple for support, hoping that I can get free support since I only bought this software a few days ago. However, any help in the meantime would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Labview freezes during installation

I have an enduser that I am setting up a repurprosed computer.  The computer was originally used by a summer marketing intern so there was never any NI software.  I was setting it up, and installed 8.6 by accident as the engineer then instructed me he preferred 2010 sp1.  I ran uninstall from the CLI as the GUI didnt have a way I found to uninstall it completely with one swoop.
Yesterday it froze during the drivers disc, but now, I redid it after the uninstall and now it froze on the disc two - product 14 of 16: Currently installing Compilation Tools for Virtex-II FPGA Devices.  It has been sititng like this for the past hour.
The end user does have Xilinx Webpack previously installed, v.14.
    Office 2007.
    Lotus Notes 8.5.3
    Firefox
    Windows 7 x64
I am using the Labview 2010 SP1 Platform DVD set
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and regards

Exactly what happens when it "freezes"? Or, how do you know it freezes?
If the rest of the code takes negligible time to execute, the 250 ms Wait in the last frame of the innermost sequence structrure will require >182 seconds to complete the nested for loops.  There are no indicators in those loops, so it would not be obvious whether the program was still running normally or not during those 3 minutes.
Try putting indicators on the "i" terminals of the for loops. That will tell you whether the loops are executing, and when it freezez, you will be able to see how many iterations have completed.  Also put error indicators inside the loop so that you can see if any errors are reported. Unfortunately the Velmex driver does not report errors.
Highlight Execution is useful for finding problems in code. But if the freeze occurs after several hundred iterations of the inner loop, you will grow old waiting to see what happens. A combination of Breakpoints and Highlight Execution is more versatile for troubleshooting loops.
Sequence structures are almost never the appropriate choice for well written LabVIEW code. I would probably create several subVIs wrapping around the Velmex driver, with each subVI perfoming one task. Include error in and error out terminals (even if the Velmex driver does not return errors for most tasks) so that you can use dataflow for controlling the order of execution.

  • Freeze during installation of XP with ms-6547

I bought a ms-6547 (MSI 645 Ultra-C) last year and tried to make it run at least once in vain!!!! The problem is that the computer freezes when loading the drivers during the installation of Win XP Pro   and I still don't understand why... I gave up after one month work on it but last week I decided to try again. Here is my config:
    -CPU: P4 1.6a fsb 400
    -Bios: 3.3
-ram: 256 DDR 2100 Dane Elec (I have 3 modules so I tried them all they have hynix, samsung and the last one is winbond chips) tested with memtest during 48h (ok)
    -HDD: IBM 20Go 7200rpm
-Graphic card: Geforce 2 Ti (leadteck) or Geforce 4 MX 440 (leadteck) (I tested both)
-CD-Rom: I tried all those I had (about 5-6 different cd-roms) but it doesn't change anything
-PCI: none but i would like to add a network adapter in the far future when this jklfghnglhbndflhbn machine will work!!!!
I tried to desactivate the onboard usb and audio but still the same!
Can anyone tell me what to do or give me a bios setup that can make it run?
Please help i am turning mad. I wanted to build a cheap machine and now it is a financial desaster

Ok, I'm having similar problems here.  Let me start off with my story.
Got an 865PE Neo2-PFISR.  Hooked it up with an SATA HDD, 160GB.  I set the Integraged Peripherals to S-ATA mode and When I ran the XP CD, it would load the drivers and at the "Setup is starting Windows" screen, I would get a Blue error screen.
Turns out I needed to set the Integrated Peripherals to "Native Mode" rather than "Legacy mode" and also "S-ATA".
When I loaded windows, it set up just fine.  Got into windows and voila, no prob, was running pretty good.
then, DUN, DUN, DUN, the 400W PSU went on me, I had to diagnose it and I want with a 500W Antec unit.
So I wasn't too happy with the way windows was running, I decided to do a fresh install before I got back to normal.  I tried the XP CD with the correct bios settings, Loaded the drivers, got to the "Setup is starting Windows" screen and FROZE.  I jus can't get past that screen, even flashed my bios and nothing, tore the entire system down and rebuilt it, tried one stick of ram, nothing.
Gave up with the fresh XP install, went back into the previously installed windows, and it ran fairly good.  But now, it keeps freezing in windows.  It will run fine under normal load, but as soon as I put some strain on the system (say I'm photoshoping and listening to MP3s or I'm watching a DVD, everything will freeze up and I have to restart.
One funny thing I noticed when I restart from this freezing.  The reset button will not do.  If I reset from the freeze, It'll restart, but then I'll get stuck on the initial MSI screen.  So, everytime I freeze, I have to power down fully and restart.
I highly doubt I have bad ram or processor or VGA, It's either the Mobo or some settings.  I contacted newegg and requested an RMA, So I'm going to start with a new board with an exchange.  I jus hate to pay for shipping now.
Anyway, I'm using Geil Platinum DDR500 (PC4000) Dual channel Ram (1GB), this was on MSI's compatible memory List, so I don't think I'll have a problem with the ram.  I haven't attempted to overclock yet.
Should I try other stuff (I'll have to rebuild the system again) or should I wait to receive a new board?

  • OSX Yosemite 10.10.3 freeze during installation now won't start up help!

When updating to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 the installation process freezed up with 1 min left. I waited few hours and decided to shutdown my Macbook Pro with the power button and waited 30 sec to power back on, but my Mac won't start up! You see the apple logo and a progress bar for 2 min and than a black screen with sometimes a spinner rotating and disappearing again showing the cursor back and forth. I turned it back off and need some advice from someone what to do next!
Please can someone help me with this!?

I solved the problem myself. This is what i did:
First i restart in safe mode:
Turn off you Mac wait 10 sec
    Press on the on/off button
Keep the Shift-key pushed in when you hear the startup sound, not before that!
Let go of the shift-key when you see the Apple-logo on the screen
    Next:
Wait until progress bar is done and the Mac starts up in safe mode. The system feels unstable, but ignore that for now.
Go into Apple Store and make sure that are no updates left to install if the are install them.
Then go into Disk-utility and check your Macintosh HD on faults.
If something turns up wrong with your HD close Disk-utility and shut down your mac (make sure any updates are done).
Now we going to repair HD:
    Startup your mac
And directly keep pressing COMMAND + R keys until you see the Apple-logo appear then release them.
You will see some options and go into Disk-utility and select your Macintosh HD second one down and repair the disk and wait until done.
If everything is repaired correctly you can restart you mac, done..

  • Photoshop Elements 13 Sign In Freezes during installation start up

    Hi,
I'm having issues with the installation on PC - during the setup you are asked to sign in using an adobe ID, which I have done (and obviously by posting to this forum, have confirmed the profile is active and without issue!) However once done, the login box 'greys out' and the 'in progress' boxes show up in the middle of the screen (the 4 boxes, one blue and 3 grey, which go round and round and round...................). It seems to me like an issue with the account or something software related on my PC, however I have confirmed I have the necessary hardware/software requirements as per the manual, so i'm officially stumped.............
    Any help gratefully received.
    Cheers
    Mark

I have installed the ARD 3.0 but whne I go to start it up it freezes at the Task Server screen.  Also, when I start the application I have to put in my seriel number in everytime.

could be your running it from a user account and not an admin account
try loging in on the admin account and setting what features you wish none admin users
    to be able to access
