Acrobat 5.0 and Reader 9.0 conflict.

System is Windows XP SP3. Dell laptop w 1.0 GB mem.
I have acrobat 5.0 loaded along with Acrobat reader 9.0. However whenever I am in any web browser, IE or Firefox, whenever I try to open a PDF on a web site, it begins to open 5.0 and states" The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running cannot be uset ot view PDF files in a Web Browser". Short of deleting 5.0, how can I fix this?

I have the same problem. I use Acrobat 5.0 when I need to turn documents into PDFs but I cannot use it to read reports the I need from internet programs or attachments that others have sent me. Short of spending a few hundred dollars to upgrade, isn't there a way to tell Reader to open when I want to see a report and only open Acrobat 5.0 when I want to create a PDF?

  • Forms compatibility between Acrobat Pro 8 and Reader 9

Hi everyone. I have a problem to resolve as quick as I can. I haven't find any answers yet, maybe someone will know what's going on with my forms.
I'm working on a document made by another graphic designer, I can't reach this person. When I use his forms, it works in Acrobat Pro 8 and Reader 9, users can fill out forms and save a copy. BUT, I have to made a modification in the forms. I use the Touch Up tools in Acrobat Pro 8, made a copy, but this copy have a problem: users cannot fill forms and save a copy in Reader 9. They can only print the form and fill it by hand. I can't find any options to made my forms compatible with Reader 9 when I save the copy.
Do you have any idea why the original forms of the guy works but not mine?? My client is a bit mad
    Thank you!

I am having a similar issue where I created a form and when I sent it to my team members (who only have reader) they are not able to fill in the form.  It is like a document for them.  I  have done the "extended rights" several times in trying to figure out what is going on and it is still not working.  Do you have any thoughts of what else I might try?  I am very new to this all and very confused and frustrated right now.
    Thanks!

  • Acrobat Standard v6 and Reader v8 conflict

I have both Acrobat V6 and Reader v8 installed on my PC. I use the full version to create pdfs, and version 8 is used to open pdfs on web pages. For some reason, I am not able to open Acrobat Standard at all. Instead, version 8 reader opens.
If I browse to the Acrobat standard icon in the programs menu, Reader 8 opens. If I browse to the Acrobat standard exe file in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe", version 8 Reader opens.
If I right click on a pdf document and select Open With... and choose Acrobat Standard 6 from the list, the document opens in Reader version 8.
I can't uninstall version 8 from my PC because I don't have administrator authority. I'm seeking help in the forum because our IT support is terrible.

Open the task list and stop AcroRd??. It is a part of Reader that stays resident. You are finding out why it is not recommended to run both the Reader and Acrobat. If you do, you have to learn how to disable the one you do not want and properly associate the file extension - that is your job in your OS.

  • Acrobat v6 Pro and Reader 9 are fighting

    My Contact
    nha khoa
So one of my users is in a different state, so I can not get my hands on his laptop. But his issue is as follows.
Using IE 7, whenever he opens a PDF it opens Acrobat v6 Pro, but gives an error saying it needs Acrobat v8 or 9. He has v9 Reader loaded, but IE will not use it. In FF we told it to open the PDF extension with Acrobat Reader 9, and this has solved the issue there.
FYI, opening a PDF directly from his computer uses v9 reader.
What have I done so far?
    1) Had him change the Windows Default Application to open PDF's with v9.0 Reader. - This did not work
    2) Had him change the default to v6 Pro then back to v9 Reader (maybe it just needed a reset) - still no good.
    3) he had installed 9 reader then 6 Pro, I had him uninstall and then reinstall v9 --- issue not resolved.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

The reason that your user gets odd behavior is because Acrobat 6 and Reader 9 use different files to open the PDF within the Internet Explorer web browser. Acrobat 6 uses an ActiveX control name "PDF.ocx". Reader 9 uses a DLL called "AcroPDF.dll". When you have both applications installed, which I believe is against Adobe's recommendations, there is a conflict and hence the error message.
On the other hand, FireFox uses the old Netscape plug-in "nppdf32.dll" so there is no co-relation in the web browser preference setting for FireFox.

  • Acrobat 9.1 AND Reader 9.1

When installing this in a domain the following happens, when pushing the package to the clients:
When the user is an administrator when it is installed the program get this error when opening, "Runtime Error! Program c:\program files\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\acroRd32.exe"...
But..when the user logged on is a non-administrative user everything works fine. And the same when someone logs on as a administrator...it works fine.
So its only when the user is logged on as an administrator it fails.
We run in a domain, most users are not administrators, but we have some that are... User use roaming profiles.
This problem is the same when installing the Acrobat 9.1 program.
Anyone have the same problem? Guess so...let me hear from you.

The only suggestion I can think of is that you likely have problems with registry corruption and extraneous files left on the systems. In many cases, that usually causes all sorts of ills.
Based on my experience with Acrobat and Reader installations, I still recommend that you use the Windows Install Clean Up utility to uninstall both Acrobat and Reader before reinstalling either product. My experience shows that just using Add/Remove in the Control Panel does an inadequate job of cleaning up the junk (both stray files and corruption in the registry) left behind that both product place on the systems on which they are installed.

  • Measurements slow or even hangs the application. Acrobat Pro X and Reader X

Products: Acrobat Professional X and Acrobat Reader 10.1.7 (and 10.1.5).
During measurements in files (3 Mb large for instance) the application hangs. Tried on both Windows XP and Windows 7 (32+64bits). Using other freeware it works fine for the same pdf-files.

Hi Rave, thanks for your reply.
How do I go about posting the crash dump here?
And to answer your questions; I just installed Reader 11 and its working fine. As for Acrobat 11, I must've used a trial last year before we got CS6 because it is asking me to license it, so I cant test that unfortunately.

  • Have Acrobat 5.0 AND Reader 8.1 installed.  Internet PDF files won't open. Uses 5.0 ?!

How can I make sure that whenever I try to open a PDF file on the Internet the default application is Reader 8.1? The Acrobat 5.0 is old (I know), but I use it to create PDFs, but I want it to ignore the old 5.0 reader and use the new 8.1 reader. Any ideas?

Graffiti, thank you for responding. I reinstalled 8.1 and then opened it BEFORE trying to open a PDF file and now it works. Thanks so much for your advice. REALLY appreciate it! Best - SpringTulips

  • Can I run Adobe Acrobat 6 pro and Reader X

I continue to use Adobe Acrobat 6 Professional for its ability to combine documents, and insert and delete pages in PDFs.  If I download and install Adobe Reader X, will it overwrite Acrobat 6 Pro, rendering it useless?  I realize that 6 Pro if very old, but has all the functionality I need to create pdfs.  I am only interested in upgrading the reader portion because I occasionally receive files created in later versions and would like to view them with all their newer functions.
    Thanks!
    J

Might work; might not.  Legacy apps (CS2, 3, 4) that weren't built to run on modern operating systems may have trouble with Mavericks.   I think you'll be OK with CS5, 6 and CC.

  • Acrobat Pro 8 and Reader X - Enable Extended Features for Form

Using Acrobat Pro 8.3.0, I "Enabled Usage Rights for Adobe Reader" for a fillable form created in LiveCycle Designer 8.0.  The following error message occurs when opening this form in Reader X:
"This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader.  The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available.  Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
The form has not been changed and as mentioned, I am the author.  Any solutions to allow user in Reader X to fill-in form?  Do I need to upgrade to Acrobat Pro X?

I am having same problem with a 2011 year tax PDF fill in form I JUST got from IRS website.  The actual form is the 2011 8829.
I can not open the PDF from the web browser or if I save it to my local drive.
I have not been able to open it at all ... thus I have made NO changes.
    I am running Windows 7 64 bit, Adobe Reader X version 10.1.4.
After trying to open the doc (nothing displays) I go to properties, and it says ...
    Title: 2011 Form 8829
    Author: SE:W:CAR:MP
    Created: 12/23/2008
PDF Producer: Adobe LiveCycle DSesigner ES 8.2.
    PDF Version: 1.7 (Acrobat 8.x)
    Tagged PDF: No
    Fast Web View: No
What do I do to resolve this ... I only have this version of Reader ... nothing else.

Also the same question about flash?

  • I have Acrobat 9 Pro and read I can upgrade to XI pro for $199.00. How do I do that?

How do I purchase and download Adobe Acrobat XI update. I have 9 now.

Sorry about the problems. It has been an issue that several MVP folks have addressed to Adobe and the solution we had seems to even have been removed. Yet we keep being told that both the full version and upgrades are available. All I can suggest it to contact Adobe directly since they keep saying both are available and even the upgrades are listed under Buying guide | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, but no link is provided any place that I can find for the upgrade. I have submitted comments and can only hope the order issue will be fixed.

  • Can I have Acrobat Pro 8 and Reader 9 installed at the same time?

At one time I had installed the trial version of Acrobat Pro 9 but it expired and I had a heck of a time getting it off my system and reinstalling version 8. I've got that all taken care of now but I would like to be able to run Acrobat Reader 9.
Can I install Reader 9 over (or in addition to) version 8 or will things blow up? After all the pain and suffering of getting it whipped back into shape, I don't want to try unless I know that it's possible without causing problems.
    Please advise. Thank you!
    Jo

Thanks for your help. I guess I was afraid of what the answer would be. I'll just have to bite the bullet and hope for the best. If it doesn't work well, I just hope it's not a bugger to undo.
And one of these days I'll just have to upgrade the whole lot!

  • Acrobat Standard 6 and Reader 9: Outlook opens PDF with Standard

Background: We have one PC with Acrobat Standard 6 serving well enough for creating PDF's, but we also have Reader 9 installed on that machine to open certain newer-format PDF's that we download or that are emailed to us.
Issue: Reader 9 opens PDF's on the hard drive and PDF's online via either Internet Explorer or Firefox (so the Windows file type associations seems to be OK), but Outlook Express persists in opening PDF email attachments with Acrobat Standard 6.
Anyone know how to fix this? (I'm fine with making changes to the Registry if that will do it.)
    --John Hupp

I'm having a similar problem and am totally frustrated.
I have an old version of acrobat reader 5, but today I downloaded reader 9, but when I click on .pdf files online, I get the same message saying that I need reader 8 or 9 to open files on the web.... which I have!
I went in, after reading this thread, and made sure my 5 had the "display PDF in browser" UNCHECKED, and that it WAS checked in 9... but still no dice. For a few years now I've been unable to just click on and open pdf files online, and have been going a long route around by right clicking pdf's, clicking on "save target as", saving the files to my desktop, then opening reader 5 and going to file, open, and opening the file. What a huge pain in the butt though... all I want to do is be able to click pdf files and open them in my browser!!
Oh, and another bizarre thing that has happened is that since installing reader 9, all the icons on every pdf file on my computer has changed to the icon windows uses for files of an unknown type. Can't figure out why since when I double click any of these files, they open right up in reader 9.
I'm beyond irritated with trying to figure this out, so I'm open to any suggestions anyone has!

  • Highlighter colors look muddy when printed from Acrobat 8, X, and Reader XI to Xerox WC7775, 7665

Highlighter colors look muddy when printed to Xerox WC7775, 7665(applies to Acrobat 8 Std, Acrobat X Std, Reader XI).  I tried the latest PS and PCL6 drivers from xerox.com.  How can I troubleshoot / fix this so highlighter colors look bright when printed?
When printing highlighted text from other applications (like Word) from the same computers to the same printers, the highlighter color is bright.  Users print PDFs for distribution to clients so they would like the printed documents to look good.
    Thanks

I have tried the WCS sRGB, scRGB and ICC U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color profiles.  sRGB and scRGB are very slightly brighter than the default and SWOP but still much more muddy than the bright yellow from a Word document.  I just started digging in to this today so any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

  • Acrobat 5 and reader 9 installation problems???

I work for small private non-profit school.  We have been using acrobat 5.0 for some time with much success.  We had to purchase a new computer.  I loaded the acrobat 5 and then was prompted at some point to download reader 9.  I can't print checks in quickbooks online and when I print to pdf it saves as tiff file, not pdf.  I don't know if they're not working together, if I installed improperly, or what.  I want to be able to print to pdf for all programs and convert pdf files to use in word.  What do I need to do?  I can't upgrade or purchase acrobat pro.  Thank you for your help!

I'm running XP as well (partitioned harddrive with windows 7).  I right clicked a pdf document to "open with acrobat reader 9.3" but it didn't give me an option to open with it all the time.  This is what I want because when I go to quickbooks online it automatically opens AA5 which quickbooks doesn't support.
If I open reader 9 before quickbooks, it still opens AA5 by default.
My other machine has XP with acrobat 5.0 and reader 6.0 and has no problems.  What about if I delete reader 9 and download reader 6?  Do you know of any issues if I uninstall reader 9?  Are there shared files that will corrupt AA5?
