Acrobat 5.0 with Windows 7

I am trying to install Acrobat 5.0 (Yes I know it is old) on my new PC which is running Windows 7 and getting a compatability issue error from windows.
What do i need to do to get this to work?
This application was previously running on my old XP Pro machine which the HD died in.
Thanks

If it is a 64-bit system, you probably have to purchase a new Acrobat. If it is a 32-bit system, it should install, but as mentioned the PDF print driver will not work correctly. Actually, the driver will work (Distiller Assistant printer), but you will need to change the port to a FILE rahter than the Adobe or Acrobat port (else you will have to check print-to-file with every use). The file will have to be opened in Distiller to finish the conversion to PDF (the file would have been a PS file, probably with a PRN extension). The process may be able to be automated a bit with watched folders in Distiller (I have no tried it, but might be worth a shot). You may have to install a newer Reader also in order to read PDF sent by other folks. AA5 is not compatible with a lot of the new PDF standards (not backward compatible), though PDF files from AA5 will work fine on the newer readers. When you have both installed, you have to be careful in that AA5 and the reader may fight with each other at times -- mainly a right double-click issue.
I mention this process only because for fun I tried out AA5 on Win7, 32-bit, and found this result. I was able to create PDFs, but through this backdoor process. That machine has AA XI on it now, but it was fun playing around a bit. My guess is that it will totally fail on a 64-bit machine. You might be able to run AA5 in a XP windows emulation (a huge download) as an alternative.

  • What is compatibility of Adobe Acrobat Version 7 with Windows 8 ?

Please advise what the compatibility of Adobe Professional Version 7 is with Windows 8 ?

    Hi mike.renuart
Acrobat 7 is not supported with Windows 8 , but you can go ahead and try if it works ...
Otherwise you need to upgrade to latest version which is supported by Win 8

anyone have any issues with acrobat not working on windows 8.1

AA 9 is not certified for Win 8.1, but I thought some folks had gotten it to work. I assume you are using a 64-bit system, since that is where a lot of the problems crop up. What issues are you having. Be as specific as possible and include screen shots when possible.

that's expected because acrobat 4 is so old and wasn't intended to be installed on win 7.  here's more: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/adobe-acrobat-version-40- is-not-compatible-with/025b5116-352b-4066-ab24-6fe583057ae0

  • Compatability of acrobat 5.0 with Windows 8

I have windows 8 on a new notebook and tried to load my Adobe Acrobat 5.0 from disc, it says there is a compatibility issue, what can be done?

    Hi p2ijack,
Your Acrobat is quite old, and is not supported on your current operating system. Please see Adobe Acrobat 5 not compatible with Windows 8
I wish I had better news for you. You may want to give Acrobat XI a try. You can download a free 30-day trial from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

    >doesn't allow users to save the completed pdf forms to any of the network drives
Over in the Premiere Pro forum where I spend more time (use that more than the Acrobat that came with Master Collection) there are a few messages a year from people who want to use PPro with networked files, or run from a network instead of a standalone computer... and the answer has always been that the program is simply not designed to be used in that fashion... so it doesn't work
It would appear that Acrobat is also designed to run on a standalone computer, with local hard drive(s) and doing anything else just won't work
I don't remember the name of the (software-hardware?) but there was one message by someone using a specific type of network that allowed them to "spoof" the local computer into thinking that the network drive was actually a local drive hardwired to the computer... and that did work for file saving

  • Acrobat 9 Products with Windows XP Media Center 2005

    Hello,
I'm wondering if any users are running Acrobat 9 Standard or Pro on Windows XP Media Center 2005. I'm currently annotating pdfs for a client but was leery of purchasing Standard or Pro because Media Center is not mentioned under the System Requirements for these products (only Windows XP Home, Professional, and Tablet PC editions are listed). So I had my client enable the pdfs for annotation and then send them to me. I began annotating them in Acrobat Reader 9. This worked for less than a day, and then when I reopened the documents, I received a message saying "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available." The Comment & Markup toolbar and the Comments option under Documents have disappeared, and I can no longer make changes to the documents.
Do other users have issues with Standard, Pro, or Reader operating on Media Center? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It will work on either of those operating systems.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro with Windows 8

I use Acrobat 9 Pro, and I just installed it on a new laptop with the Windows 8 OS.  I'm having 2 problems and hope someone can help:  a)  Acrobat stalls - perhaps 20-30 seconds - when I attempt to open or close a document, then it works fine for a few documents and then it stalls again; b) I receive notices of an Update for my Acrobat 9; however, when I click to Install, I instantly receive an error message that says "An error occurred.  Adobe Acrobat Updater will try again later."  I hope someone knows a solution to these problems.  Than you.

Try running Acrobat in (Windows 7 or XP) Compatibility Mode.

  • Security violation error (error code 2148532330) in Acrobat Pro XI with Windows 8

I have two certificates, physically residing on the same (Belgian) government issued smart card. One is labeled "Authentication" (Intended usage: sign transaction), and the other is labeled "Signature" (Intended usage: sign document). I have been trying to add a signature to a pdf document in Acrobat Pro XI (trial) on WIndows 8 Home (64 bit). It works perfectly with the "Authentication" certificate, but all attempts with the "Signature" certificate yield the following error:
    Error encountered while signing:
The Windows Cryptographic Service Provider reported an error:
Access was denied because of a security violation.
    Error Code: 2148532330
The only relevant difference between both certificates that I have been able to spot, is in the "key usage" field of the certificate ("sign transaction" versus "sign document"). Any thoughts on what might be wrong?
    Thanks.

I assume you are implying "biztax" application here, right?
I have contacted their program lead, with no result at all.
Past days I have been searching for a solution - reinstalls / new systems - no solution.
This issue appeared a week or two ago only.
I found http://forums.adobe.com/message/5338853 useful - but no positive results either.
    http://test.eid.belgium.be/faq/faq_nl.htm obviously didnt help either.
If anyone finds a solution to this issue, please do let me know - any help is appreciated.
Biztax tells to use the "signature", not the "authentication"  - but it is only Auth. that is showing up as option to sign (that works)
ps, did you fiddle with the Adobe Reader XI security settings and import that PKI etc as well? I hoped that would be the breaktrough. Sadly i'm still crying in my chair.
Oh, and dont forget: they claim nobody else got this issue. Maybe one or two people. (We got about 8 customers experiencing exactly the same symptoms at the same time )
    >  I noticed that when I try to open the pdf  document that is 'signed' by the government it is not showing the filename in the title bar, but only " - Adobe Reader".    every piece of info helps I guess.
Obviously last version of Reader   11.0.03

Yes. Acrobat X is compatible with Win 8 along with any CS5.5 and CS6 suite. Make sure you update it to 10.1.4

That said, the current version of Acrobat is Acrobat XI, which is also Windows 8 compatible (not RT though).
