Acrobat 6 and7 unable to open Acrobat X docs

I have a lot of users that are still using Acrobat 6 that are being sent pdf files made with
Acrobat X.  When they try to open them, it gives an error of 6 can't open the new
pdf file format and to upgrade.
Users with Acrobat 8 and 9 can open these files just fine.
My first question is why can't 6 or 7 open them?
2nd question is are we forced to upgrade or can compatibility be added to 6 and 7 to open these files?

My first question is why can't 6 or 7 open them?
May be that the generated PDF version is 1.7 or higher.
2nd question is are we forced to upgrade or can compatibility be added to 6 and 7 to open these files?
Acrobat X can save files compatible to Acrobat 6 and lower.

  • Unable to open Pages docs in Pages 5.5

I cannot believe that I'm having this extreme an issue but not finding anyone else with the same problem thus far.
I am unable to open any Pages docs in Page 5.5. Actually though, the issue began right BEFORE I upgraded to Yosemite and then upgraded Pages.
I partly did the whole upgrade to see if it would fix the issue, and it has not.
I have tried everything, every way there is to open a file, I've tried it. I'm talking about Pages docs I created originally in Pages, that will not open.
When I give the open command, it acts like it's opening the doc, and there are no error messages but the doc simply doesn't open.
HELP!!! I can't do my work!

    Hi all,
I hav been having a similar problem. In the end I re formatted my hard drive (which I had been thinking of doing anyway) re installed Yosemite and pages 5.5 anew. I did the same with my iPad Air V1.
However, files are not syncing across the cloud to the iPad or the other way round. I create a file on Page son the Mac and save to iCloud. Wont show there or on the iPad. File on iPad won't show in Pages on the Mac. It's impacting my business greatly as I create case reports in Police Stations (lawyer) and finish off on the Mac but unless i use iCloud I can't. Driving me mad and cannot think of a solution.

  • Unable to open Word doc "Submitted" to a cell in form

    Hi,
I am unable to open a Word doc "Submitted" to a cell in form. When I select the cell and select menu open "Open Doc", I see a IE web page flash quickly before disappearing.
In contrast I can open a TEXT file - a IE web page would display the contents.
I am guessing it is IE related - perhaps it is not able to display Word nor Excel docs?
Has anyone else found a way around this limitation. I even tried opening Excel docs while running webform on the Planning server itself.
I set IE options to allow everything and to trust the planning website.

You are right Alp, I don't understand the permissioning of folders and its artifacts (e.g. files). I know Planning and Essbase security well but Workspace's security stumps me!??
I don't understand what part "Roles" have. I gave a security group "FULL CONTROL" to the folder, and Select "Apply Permission to Children". However, that folder's permission did not get pushed to the artifacts in it.
I read online HELP but don't understand it.

Hi.  My new computer had Acrobat on it.  Suddenly, I was unable to open any PDF's.  and then I tried to update and was forwarded to the Adobe site that said I had to buy a monthly subscription.  I do not have the physical box with a serial number and was going to buy the one advertised on the website until I discovered it's only for students and teachers, which I am not.  What should I do next as I need to use PDFs on a daily basis.  Thanks!  I would like to be able to download this and pay online.  Possible? I currently have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.  I have a Windows 7 system.  Please help!

As long as you know your serial number you can download PSE from here:
    Download Photoshop Elements products | 11, 10

  • Unable to open .pdf in Firefox 3.6.8 with Adobe Reader 9.3.3 installed. Error message is "The Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser."

I am unable to open a PDF file in Firefox 3.6.8. Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3.3 is installed. I get the error message "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser."

You can get that error if there is still an old Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

  • Unable to open pdf created with Acrobat Pro using Adobe Reader X

Files created with some Adobe Professional applications such as Acrobat Pro ensure the file is small by excluding font information from the file.  Simple pdf creation applications embed the font in the file, which makes for transportability between apps but does make the files big.
The problem i have experienced is that Adobe Reader X is one of the simple app varieties, so is unable to open, print, or read files created using Adobe Acrobat Pro..
i'd welcome any help in (a) finding a free app that opens these 'pro pdf' files, OR (b) an option setting in Acrobat Pro which includes the font information in the file - or both!

There are so many things wrong, around a tiny grain of truth, it really isn't worth examining. Not at this stage if you are more interested in getting things working.  It may be worth asking you though, since Reader doesn't even launch for you, how you came to focus on font embedding being the cause.
Ok, Reader doesn't launch. Suppose you start Reader FIRST. Then use File > Open on your PDF.

  • Unable to open multiple PDF files in Acrobat 9 Pro - Vista

I have a staff member that is unable to open more than one PDF at a time.  If a PDF is currently open and another one is selected the program will crash and close.  It gives a message stating the program has crashed and must be closed and also gives an option to check online for a solution.  Has anyone else seen this issue or know a fix for it?  Thanks in advance.

No. Starting with Acrobat 9 it is no longer possible to open multiple PDF files in the same window.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI unability to open pdf mail attachments

Since upgrading to Adobe Acrobat Pro XI I am unable to open most pdf attachements on outlook. The message is that the file is corrupt or was encoded wrong. How do I correct this.

    Hi Pat
I tried to save the attachment to the hard drive in Outlook 2013.
When opening the file in acrobat the error says that the file is either not a supported type or damaged (incorrectly encoded)
I have Acrobat Pro XI version 11.0.10 and windows 7 64 bit installed. It worked perfect on Acrobat pro X until about December 2014. In tried a repair, a clean install of XI. The files are bank statements. It works on Mac and Adobe reader, so the files must be correct.

  • Unable to Open Multiple Windows  Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and recently am unable to open multiple documents at one time without an error occurring and Adobe shutting down.  I use multiple screens and want one doc open while I review or compare with another doc.  It is happening on two machines at my home both running Windows 8.1.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Ankit,
Thank you for your advice, but Im still having problems.
Back to the OP.  To avoid the threads getting confused, I suggest the other user starts a new one?
I have tried ensuring that PDFs are automatically opened by Adobe.  I used the path you suggested.  However, I'm still having the same problem.
When I went to do this, Adobe was listed in the "recommended" list of products with which to open PDF files.  However, I ignored this and followed your guidance.  Once I had done, nothing happened (i.e. Adobe icon was not added to the 'Other products' list below the 'Recommended').
To me, this speaks of either a bad installation or bad association in which something is causing Adobe not to recognise itself.
    What else can you advise?
Is there, for instance, a way to have a clean removal of Adobe, and then reinstall?  I don't even know if this will work.

  • I am unable to open Acrobat X in Windows 7

I am unable to open Acrobat X in Windows 7. The shortcut appears on the desktop but when I click it nothing happens. Same from the program list. Just re-installed from cd but still nothing.

Since you can not open Acrobat (assume there were no errors shown with the installation and this is a new installation), then go to Control Panel>Programs & Features and select Acrobat. Select the uninstall/change. Along the way you should be provided an option to repair -- do that. If you like, you can also download the updates from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and install them in order.

Unable to open PDF directly if user use Acrobat 8.
We are facing some problems in our production site. When user click PDF icon, "FileDownload" windows pops up, but it only has "Save" or "Cancel" button, so user needs to download and save the file to open.
I tested the following scenario using
We have facing problem with this visions IE 6.0 – Acrobat 8.0 and IE7.0 – Acrobat 8.0.
Mozilla 2.0 – acrobat 8.0 working fine. The pdf contents are embedding fine the browser window
Does anyone have any experience with something of this nature?

I must have missed the announcement - when did these forums change from Java language to IE/Adobe/Mozilla forums?

  • Acrobat X Pro - Unable to open the document

I'm having issues testing Acrobat X Pro trial version and Office 2010 on XP Pro SP3.  When trying to convert a Word document I consistently get the message - Unable to open the document.  Please check to see if you have read permission for the above file.  If I hit "Retry" a few times it will eventually convert the document.  If I initiate the conversion from within Word it seems to work fine. I've confirmed that permissions are not the problem.  It doesn't matter if the files are on the C: drive or a network location.  Most of my users use the combine so converting from within Word is not an option.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry but no.  Big bummer.  Keeping me from going to Win7 and Office 2010 on many systems. Honestly,  I haven't looked to see if there are any patches avaliable since I orginally posted.

  • XenApp 6.5 and Acrobat issue: "Unable to open the document".

We are using XenApp 6.5 with a published desktop Windows 7 x64. If we open Acrobat Pro 10.1.5 and Create PDF we get an error "Unable to open the document". If we do the same action directly on the XenApp server then it works as expected. The Word doc in question was created by the test user and is located on their Home drive area so the permissions are correct. If i try to save the Word doc as PDF it works fine directly and indirectly.
