Acrobat 7,8 &9 Patching

We need to patch Acrobat versions 7 through 9 to the latest versions.  All of are Acrobat users have separate licenses.  We do not have an Admin share to install Acrobat from.  We would like to update these PCs via SMS.  Is there a way to chain these updates together to get version 7, 8 & 9 up to there latest versions or is it a way to slipstream the patches? Thanks Marlon

What a poor design to not have patches rolled up into one install.  I too would like to update to the lastest patch revision of each, but am finding minimal support in that area.  I would have to chain about 5 .msp files together to make this happen..  Abode update maintenance is a joke!!

  • Acrobat 8.1.6 Patch Issues

Hi All,  There looks to be a problem with the Acrobat 8.1.6 patch (acrobatupd816_all_inc.msp).  When attempting to patch an Acrobat 8 Standard & Professional admin install points, I receive a Windows Installer error stating: "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service becuase the program to be updated may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.  Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."
I receive this error when trying to upgrade from both 8.1.4 and 8.1.5, on both Standard and Professional.
Any ideas on what the may be, or do we have to wait for Adobe to fix.
    Thanks.

    hi guys,
i'm curious: How did you able to slipstream (AIP) Acrobat 8 Pro to 8.1.3?
I'm getting a weird error when slipstreaming 8.1.3 Update.
    Here's what I got:
    0) Setup on XP Pro SP3/Vista/Win7. AIP is in C:\ local drive.
    1) Create AIP for Acrobat 8.0.0 Pro.
    2) Slipstream 8.1.0 Update (MD5: 37baea6694b15c354b0769b80c500711)
    3) Slipstream 8.1.1 Update (MD5: e6faf402bd7a7e864dbe0870a80d04c5)
    4) Slipstream 8.1.2 Update (MD5: 69f725c77a879f542af89c6a5bdab839)
    5) Ignored 8.1.2 SU1 Update (negligible; and it's in MSI anyway so no point slipstreaming to AIP)
    6) When I tried to slipstream 8.1.3 Update (MD5: c3e0ea9741f84246cf281acb33e22c86), i get an error msg:
    http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/227/sshot1moo.png
Error 1335. The cabinet file 'PCW_CAB_ACRO' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
    7) There's no way to continue. Pressing Ignore button generate a simple error dialog:
    http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/1355/sshot2sel.png
    Internal Error 2350.
    8) Now, i can't slipstream 8.1.4 or 8.1.5 or 8.1.6 because 8.1.3 won't install at all.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Acrobat 8 administrative installation & patch: language?

Hello everyone. I'm trying to prepare an Administrative installation of Acrobat 8 with all patches.
I own a Acobat 8 CD spanish, italian, dutch version.
I create an administrative installation via the command
    msiexec /a "C:\Acro8\Package\acrostan.msi" transforms="C:\Acro8\Package\mytransform.mst"
then apply all the patches via the command
    msiexec /a "C:\Acro8\ServerImage\acrostan.msi" /p "C:\Acro8\Package\updatefilename.msp"
and use that admin install for one-run installation
The problem is that it use only spanish language, even I prepare from and italian-coded transform.mst
Does anyone knows hints or tricks or whatever for convincing it to use italian?
Thanks in advantage for every contribution.
    Samuel

I "clicked around" in Acrobat Enterprise Install forum, and I decide to choose this
"Install all Acrobat 8 patches in one step with Adobe Bootstrapper and patch sequencing "
    at this page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403246.html
Now it works well, each time there is a new patch I don't have to build a new administrative installation but only add the patch at the list in setup.ini
Have a nice day to all.

  • Acrobat 9.4.4 patch stops combine files from MS Word

Yesterday morning, I was able to use the right click and "Combine supported files in Acrobat" repeatedly and just fine.
Then the updates came. Unfortunately we installed them on most of the computers in our office (except for one that was off), and so now every patched computer in my office is not able to use the 'combine supported files in Acrobat' without locking up on the first file.  One of the computers gave a DDE error box, but I wasn't there to see it.
The computer that didn't receive the patch continues to work just fine.
I called tech support and he said it must have been a setting on my computer, because that's what his cue card says. This problem is across multiple platforms, (Vista AND 7 Pro) and with Word 2007, and Word 2010.  Everyone was working in the morning, and was broke after the patches. Please reply to this so that Adobe will wake up and realize there were issues with the patch, and not ask me to pay for the tech support fee.
    Thanks,
    Michael Roark

  • Acrobat 4.0 possible patch to handle newer .pdf files?

I am currently at a small printing company that uses a Heidelberg Prosetter and interconnected software programs for platemaking in our pre-press department. We currently have an outdated Heidelberg meta dimension system that I was told will only handle Acrobat version 4.0 files. I get errors when a newer .pdf version is sent to me from my customers. So far I have found work arounds such as saving the .pdf file down to a compatible file, but am running out of options, and the newest version 9.0 files are really giving me a headache. Saving the file down doesn't seem to help. Is there a possible patch I can find to allow version 4.0 to handle the newest files? Heidelberg has told me that if we were to upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat we would need to upgrade the rest of our software (PitStop Server, Meta Dimension, SignaStation) since they all work together to burn plates and that would cost us upwards of $25,000. Being a small company we can not afford this and the owners have basically told me to work with what I have. Can anyone help me?

I still keep having some issues with transparent objects and drop shadows with a spot colors. I just spoke to our Heidelberg rep and he mentioned that they even had to update their software to handle the 9.0, and are now recommending that customers upgrade to the newest version of Meta Dimension (which is very costly I might Ad!). I think I am just stuck between a rock and a hard place, and will be there as long as I work here! Not only do I have issues with the transparent objects, I am sometimes getting a flat out will not open error message in EnFocus PittStop which is our pre-flight software. I am going to have to post this on the EnFocus forums and hope that someone might be able to solve that for me. Thanks for the input. I kind of thought that a patch like that was out of the question! There is just no help for poor people like me!

  • Acrobat Reader crashes with patch 108652-40

    Hello,
I just installed Solaris 8 on a sun4u machine. After that I installed the recommended patches cluster. When trying to start Acrobat Reader 4.05 the CDE session crashes. After deinstalling the patch 108652-40 Acrobat Reader is working well again. Any hints where this behaviour comes from or what to do?
    TIA
    Guido

This has been going on for ages. From my understanding v9.0.0 has an issue running on a domain with redirected folders, in particular the appdata folder. For some reason, if this folder has a UNC path not a drive letter then version 9 (Reader and full version) crash on launch. There have been a number of posts around the web about this since v9 came out. I'm surprised that Adobe havent sorted this out, cant be that hard a fix and I would assume that Adobe corp HQ run a windows domain with folder redirection in place
We're still running 8.1.3, and waiting patiently for 9.0.1

  • Acrobat application error after 8.2.2 patch

I pushed out the Acrobat 8.2.2 patch this week to our users and have gotten a handful of people respond that they're getting an error when they're launching Acrobat afterwards.
    Background:
Workstations were running Acrobat 8.2.0 before the patch and all patched previously (from at least 8.1.6) without any issues. Adobe Reader is not installed on these systems.
Workstations are all running Windows XP SP3.
    Problem:
User gets a warning message when launching Acrobat that reads "A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 Professional cannot continue.  Please reinstall the application and try again."  When the click the OK button on that dialog they are then prompted with an Application Error dialog for Acrobat.exe "The instruction at '0x05bb1243' referenced memory at '0x03db9bec'. The memory could not be 'written'"
    Workaround:
A simple reboot resolves the issue sometimes, other times a repair is needed and others need to be reinstalled.
Anyone got any ideas why these errors are occurring and what I should be looking out for so that this doesn't repeat in the future?

Just noticed this post was a bit old......My version with the same issue was 8.2.6.
This seems to be a recurring issue if you seach the forums.
I was able to fix mine with a repair instead of an uninstall reinstall.
I accessed the repair option via the control panel ----->add/remove software----->adobe acrobat pro

Did you make sure that the systems where you have this issue do have Acrobat 10.x installed.
Please make sure that you did not use AIP (Admin Install Point) to install Acrobat on those systems.
If you use AIP, essentially you installed 10.1.3, but Acrobat 10.1.4 patch is looking for 10.0.0
    Hope it helps.

  • Avoiding a full reinstall of Acrobat 9/X after applying patches

After applying a patch, we redeploy the GP and our users get a full reinstall of Acrobat which takes a longer amount of time than if only the smaller patch were being applied. Is there a way around this so every time we patch and redeploy Acrobat (even the smallest patch), our users don’t have to wait through an entire reinstall?
    Thanks

you can stop any running process (including an adobe installation) using your activity monitor.

  • PDF/A keywords still doubled in Acrobat 9.3

After Adobe Acrobat for Windows is patched to version 9.3, the long-standing PDF/A keywords bug is still present.  When Saving As PDF/A, the words in Document Properties >Description >Keywords are doubled.
Does anyone know an effective way to ask Adobe to fix that bug?  I suspect a fix would be a small matter for Adobe, and of course it's disappointing that version 9.3 does not include such a fix.
    Thanks!

    Michael,
Yes, the "PDF/A keywords" bug was reported via that link -- more than once, and by more than me.  See, for example, http://forums.adobe.com/message/2435312#2435312.
Would it help if *you* also reported it?  You have a significantly larger presence on this forum than I do.  If you feel that could help, please do report the bug.
And/or, is there another way to obtain Adobe's attention on the matter?  Acrobat is a major product for Adobe, and "9" is still its current version, so it's difficult for me to understand why such an exasperating problem that needs only such a simple fix does not obtain Adobe's immediate attention (for instance, via a specific patch).  The problem could probably be solved with less than an hour of a programmer's time.  For a paid-in-full Acrobat 9 Pro user, who needs and uses the PDF/A feature, it feels like being held hostage to the whims of the software's developer.
For now, my workaround is to generate my PDF/A files via non-Adobe software, where the "PDF/A keywords" function works just as it should.

  • Creating an automated silent install of Acrobat using InstallShield Tuner - Part 2

Installing Acrobat Reader and Professional (example)
    Reader:
    Msiexec.exe /i "\\apps01\applications\acrobat\reader\6.0.1\Adobe Reader 6.0.1.msi" TRANSFORMS=\\apps01\applications\acrobat\reader\6.0.1\Acrobat_Reader_6.0.1.mst" /qn+
Note: For the automated installs /qn+ should be replaced with the switch /qb which makes the install silent.
The EULA licence agreement can also be set to accepted for all users by setting the following key in the registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\6.0\AdobeViewer]
    "EULA"=dword:00000001
    Writer:
    msiexec.exe /i "\\apps01\applications\acrobat\writer\6.0\AcroPro.msi" TRANSFORMS=\\apps01\applications\acrobat\writer\6.0\Acrobat_6.0_Pro.mst COMPANYNAME="xxxx" /qn+ (where xxxx is your companies name)
Note: For the automated installs /qn+ should be replaced with the switch /qb which makes the install silent.
The default spelling language can be set by changing the following registry keys (example below is for English-UK):
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\6.0\Spelling]
    "iDictionaryDefaultID"=dword:00000809
    "tDictionaryName"=hex:45,6e,67,6c,69,73,68,20,2d,20,55,4b,00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\6.0\Spelling\cDictionaryOrderID]
    "i0"=dword:00000809
Applying updates after Acrobat is installed
Adobe does not support updating of administrative install points like Microsoft products. Each software update will need to be run after the original application has completed installation.
    "\\apps01\Acrobat\Writer\6.0\Patches\Adobe Acrobat 6.0.1 Professional update - multiple languages\Ac60PrP1.msp" REINSTALLMODE=omus REINSTALL=ALL /qb+
Note: For the automated installs /qn+ should be replaced with the switch /qb which makes the install silent.

I hope this helps someone and lets hope the next patch/version addresses some of these problems.
