  • PDF made in Acrobat, Buttons not working right in Reader

I made a PDF presentation for a client and he is using a PC to view it. When I open it on my MAC using Preview the buttons work, it goes to whatever page I clicked on. He opened it on his PC using Reader and the buttons don't work. I also tried to view it in Reader on my MAC and they don't work either, only in Preview.
This is how I made the buttons:
Under Tools, I clicked on Interative Objects. Then Add Button. Then, Mouse Up, Go To Page View, then I added the page for each button.
Then when I save it as a PDF, I need to shrink down the file size, so I did : Save as PDF Optimizer, I didn't change much on the default for the settings. The Discard Objects Settings I only left the "Discard all alternate images" button checked.
The client sent me a sample of one that works and one that doesn't work. I opened them in Acrobat and I have buttons just like the one that works but I don't know if my saving settings are correct.
here is a link to the files that I made

I've never used Acrobat before, just photoshop, illistrator, indesign and dreamweaver so I'm sure I'm missing something, I appreciate any help anyone can give me . I also hope I'm clear in my descrition of the problem. Thank you!

By the way, do not ever save an interactive PDF with Preview and distribute it. Only work with the document within Acrobat. Preview causes all sorts of corruption. If you did save with Preview, don't bother trying to edit it in Acrobat and instead start from scratch if you don't have a copy as it was before it was saved with Preview.

  • Battery indicator on my G4 not giving me correct reading

My intention was to calibrate the battery, so i let it run down to 0%, but has been on for over 1/2 hour, and hasn't shut down yet....

Once it does run down, finishing the calibration procedure will, hopefully, make the battery indicator more precise. That's actually one of the reasons to calibrate the battery.
    From http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490 :
The battery has an internal microprocessor that provides an estimate of the amount of energy in the battery as it charges and discharges. The battery needs to be recalibrated from time to time to keep the onscreen battery time and percent display accurate and to keep the battery operating at maximum efficiency.
If you never see the low battery warning, you may want to try resetting the PMU.

To install/update Adobe Reader or Acrobat you need to supply your computer's Administrator password.

  • Reader XI, An Error Exists on this Page, Acrobat may not display

    Hello,
I need some help please.  The small business I work for as a contract employee uses Google Doc's, and we input our information into spreadsheets on a daily basis, from our home computers.
My home computer is XP Professional, and I am using  Mozilla Firefox 36.0. I know we are using older computer programs, but until we can afford newer computers we have to use what we have.
Prior to today, when I printed off my spreadsheets in Google Doc's I had no problems, however tonight I just starting receiving this error message;  An error exists on this page.  Acrobat may not display the page correctly.  Please contact the person who created the file.
I contacted my manager and had her send me a new spreadsheet, Invitation to Edit and input my information into the new spreadsheet.
I then go to my timesheet, and highlight all the rows that I would like to print, then I hit the print key, then I get the box that states, opening my timesheet which is a PDF which is an Adobe Acrobat Document, then I have this message, What should Firefox do with this file?  I have it set to open with Adobe Reader (default) do this for files automatically like this.
The file downloads, however I have noticed that Adobe at times has a difficult time opening up right away and then I receive the error message that Adobe isn't responding and I end up closing the program out and restarting my computer.
This error message shows up just before the document begins to print and the document prints off with out any problems.
I even did a repair and that didn't help.  My printer is a HP Color LaserJet 4500 and I've had no issues with Adobe prior to tonight.
Do I need to uninstall Adobe Reader & Re-install the program?
I can't send a copy of the file because it contains confidential material.
I've also posted this message on Adobe Acrobat, and have not received a response.
    Please advise.
    Thank you,

    Hello,
Thank you for responding.  Sorry that my message is so confusing.
In Google Doc's we are able to highlight/selected portions of a PDF to print.
In Mozilla Fox under Applications, Portable Format Document (PDF) Use Adobe Reader (default).
So when I go to print off my timesheet, after I have highlighted everything, I get this message:  I've chosen to open my timesheet which is: Adobe Acrobat Document from https//docs.google.com. What should Firefox do with this file?  Open with Adobe Reader (default).
Do this automatically for files like this from now on. I click on the OK and the file downloads as a PDF file in Adobe Reader.  On Google Doc's I click on the print key then I am able to open up my printer menu.  Its after I click on the print key that I receive this message.
So what do I do please?
    Thank you,
    Maureen A. Mumm

This is very confusing to me; Adobe Reader does not have such a functionality (to print highlighted/selected portions of a PDF). Could it be that this is a functionality of Google Docs? Also I have never seen a message "What should Firefox do with this file?". • Print Problem - PDF is OK on Windows 7, but OK on Windows XP with "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem."

I have received a PDF which prints fine in Windows 7 but with Windows XP I get "Acrobat Reader An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem." and a blank piece of paper passes through the printer. I appreciate that Windows XP is no longer supported but I would like to think that the solution to this problem is not too difficult!
    I have tried Acrobat 9, 10 and 11.
Any advice (apart from use Windows 7! ) would be most welcome.
    Many thanks.

If you use the same Adobe Reader versions with the same PDF on Windows 7 and XP, then I would expect the outcome to be the same.
Is this a local or online PDF?
If local, is the file really exactly the same?
    If online, in what browser?

  • InitState works in Acrobat but not Reader

Hi I am new here and not very good with javascript, so please bare with me.
I have created a document with five radio buttons that toggle between layers via executing OCG .state and .initState scripts depending on which button is selected.  Both work fine in Acrobat in setting the current state and the default state of the layers. But when I open the document in Reader, only .state seems to toggle between layer visibility and .initState fails to set the default state of layers.  Essentially what I need is to be able to set the default state to layers in Reader.   I noticed that the Layer Properties panal is not editable in reader and that this may be the culprit, but I can not find how to activate it or to even enable manualy setting the default state of layers to on or off.
In addition to the FindOCG script at the document level here are samples of what I have set as mouse up actions to the radio buttons.
    FindOCG("LayerName).state = true;
    FindOCG("LayerName").initState = true;
Each of these is its own action.
I am using Acrobat Pro 10.1.8 and Reader 11.0.3 on Windows 7 Ultimate.
Any help with this would be greatly apriciated.
    Thanks
    Jesse

I have a project to create editable business cards to be distributed through our franchise system.  We have several designs and combinations of double sided business cards.  In short my goal was to be able to toggle between combinations of front and back designs (1st and 2nd pages) in the form of different layers for double sided business cards.  It seemed doable at first and is functioning just fine in Acrobat.  I thought it would be nice to distribute one PDF rather than several, which is what our franchisees like. The PDFs have form fields for all the variable information.  I can toggle between form and design layouts, but the design layouts do not hold after saving and re-opening in Reader because in adition to toggling the layer visibility I have to set the default open state of the visible layers to on so that when the PDF is re-openend, say at a press to be printed, the correct layers are displayed and printed without the press having to make any edits.  The .initState simply is not effecting the default states in Reader.  As for runtime code, I don't know what that is.  I don't know much about coding, I figured out just enough to get this far.

  • Adobe Reader/Acrobat Is not Installed

I get an error on machines on our work network that says Adobe Reader/Acrobat is not installed. However most cases it is installed on the machine and in most cases it turns out to be the 8.1.1 version of Adobe reader. So what we have noticed is that the permissions do not seem to be right with the .pdf file extention. We manually add the users, power users group to the file extention and then we grant them full control over the extention and in most cases that as well will not work. The next step would be to uninstall 8.1.1 Adobe reader and then reboot. Upon the restart we will log on and install the 8.1.2 update. Sometimes this works but then again I have noticed that the users, power users group is not in the .pdf file extention. Then we will add them in and yet the user will still have the same error message. We have fun out of ideas and the other bad scenario is that this is free software and its very difficult to get support for. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi snoreaustralia,
It sounds like you just need to associate the PDF filename extension with Acrobat, rather than Preview. Please see this document from the Microsoft Help for instructions on choosing the default program for opening a particular file type (in your case, PDF): Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help

  • Flattening annotations (comments) changes highlight color in Acrobat, but not Reader

I have a pdf document with multiple comments consisting of sentences highlighted with different colors. The colors are the default, bright colors in the default commenting "Highlighter Tool Properties" palette. When I flatten with either Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 or X (Tools - Print Production - Preflight - flatten annotations and form fields) the colors of the highlights change from the normal 'bright' colors to dull 'pantone'-like colors. Interestingly, if I view the flattened file with Reader, the colors are fine (back to the bright colors), but when viewing with Acrobat Pro they are the dull pantone colors. It is as if there is a 'flag' in the file telling Acrobat (but not Reader) to change the displayed highlight colors.
    I'm using Mac OS X 10.9.5
Does anyone know how I might change this so that the highlight colors do not change when flattening?
    Thanks

Well, I was able to answer my own question. You have to go into "Flattener Preview" and change "Color Space" from the default "none" to something else, in my case, "Device RGB". Also, make sure to set page range.

  • Acrobat did not ask about my PDF reading preferences when installing/launching

In reply #52 to this thread in the Creative Cloud forum post http://forums.adobe.com/message/4790915#4790915 the customer mandelbrot had this issue with Acrobat:
"When installing Acrobat 10 it removed my preferences for my default PDF Reader; Why?  I didn't ask it to.  Thankfully I reinstated the previous default through the OS.  This isn't a choice that Adobe should be making on my behalf - it should ask me."
On Windows 7 I was able to confirm this behavior by having Adobe Reader as my default program. I then installed Acrobat using the Creative Cloud. Afterwards I opened the PDF file and it opened in Acrobat without prompting me about Adobe Reader.

Windows will generally use the last program installed that instructs the system how to open a file of a particular type. If you want Reader to open the PDF when double-clicking in Windows Explorer, then right click, select open with, and then go to the menu for "always open with" and select Reader. What you are talking about is true of most installations of programs in Windows. Browsers tends to do the same thing if you install multiple browsers. In the case of Acrobat, AA X was the first version that actually allows both Reader and Acrobat, at least from a support viewpoint. For all previous versions it was recommended to install one or the other, not both. You can run both, but with some potential hickups.

  • Acrobat does not keep InDesign reading order plus more

I create forms for our office. Users download and print the forms, then fill in the blanks and submit to our office. We cannot use dynamic forms, because federal law requires a hard signature. Because handwriting is not always legible (adding to staff work load) this year we thought we'd go to interactive fields. We are a state agency, and all Web information must be 508 compliant and accessible.
I use InDesign and Acrobat CS3. I initially used styles to format the content. When the problems (below) arose, I tried to map the styles to tags. I also redid the form in two layers, keeping the structure on one layer and the text on another.
    b The problems:
    1) Acrobat will not maintain the reading order of the form I'm currently working on. It is so bad that nothing I export to PDF is in order, yet the structure is fine in InDesign.
    2) Acrobat is treating my headers and paragraphs as one unit (sometimes), even when the text is in separate frames. For instance, Acrobat groups my PageHeader(H) frame to the text (P) frame that follows. For blind readers, I want them in a different order, but cannot do that, because they are grouped as if one frame in PDF.
I am extremely frustrated. I have searched the Internet and books, but cannot resolve this problem. And I'm learning more about XML than I ever wanted to know!
I'd appreciate any leads or help.

If you are exporting (File > Export) from InDesign, the problem would
seem to lie in InDesign. Acrobat doesn't make up the reading order, it
only reports what it is given.
So you may well find the InDesign forum the best.
(If you are using Acrobat, I'd recommend the Acrobat forum).

  • How to print off Web to Acrobat and not Reader?

    Hello,
I have Adobe Acrobat Standard X (10.1.8) and Adobe Reader 9.5.5 installed on my PC (Vista Home Premium x64).
When I go to print a page off the Web to PDF, the resulting document currently gets displayed in Reader rather than Acrobat. I would prefer that the new document show up in Acrobat instead, so that I can delete any unnecessary pages (article comments, ads, etc.).
Is there any way to make it so that when a new PDF is created from the Web, the result shows up in Acrobat and not Reader? And if so, then how?
In case it makes a difference in how you answer-- I would like to keep Reader as the default when opening an existing PDF to read it.
    Thank you.
Message was edited by: jamadr: more information

There is really no good reason to have both Reader and Acrobat installed on the same system since Acrobat does everything Reader does and much more.
For what it's worth, Dov, over here in Mac-land, I find it really really useful to have both Reader and Professional installed. I find the casual reading experience in Reader to be much more convenient, and I'm much less likely to inadvertantly alter a file I only wish to read. By default the toolbars consume less screen real estate, which I find useful. Also for workflow reasons, I can have 20 PDFs open in Reader and 1 or 2 open in Professional, and can more easily keep them straight.  I am also under the impression that Reader is less resource-intensive in terms of memory footprint.
Oh, and, of course, I find it useful to use Reader 10 because of unresolved bizarre performance problems with Reader 11 (reported to Adobe and that got some stillborn developer attention), while still using Pro 11 for editing and other pro-type tasks.
(On the gripping hand, when I want to do something like OCR a page I am reading in Reader so I can copy-paste it elsewhere, it is annoying to have to then open it in Pro.)
This is basically the opposite of your advice .
I'm under the impression this is more viable on the Mac than Windows though? Or perhaps it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Any ideas how to get rid of this? Realistically its not practical to contact them, nor the other 1,000,000 web site owners whom host pdf's.
I really would like to disable the pop up only.
Seem to get it on quite a few PDF's. This web page seems to have quite a few that produce the problem.

After installing Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7 Ent. w/Office 2010.
From MS Word, select Save as PDF, I recieve "Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF file."
Any and all troubleshooting has failed.
Uninstall Acrobat, language packs, re-install, install updates, Install on fresh image.

kglad  your link refers to Windows XP. As to the rest it is questionable. First of all it would be nice to know the cause, before fixing the problem. For in some cases eliminating the cause will solve problems later on. So, in my case for ex. The problem did not exist until I protected my Word 2010 document and then saved it to PDF--which it would not allow to do so and giving the error message stated above.
