Acrobat 7 Page Numbering

Hi,
Has anyone got any solutions as to how to number the pages of a document so that the numbers print with document when printing hardcopies.
The document sizes range from 50 - 350 pages.
Thanks
Hydroman

Hi Jeff ,
How exactly are you trying to add the page numbers?
Do you want to add the page number for your reference ?
By adding header and footer under the pages option in Tools pane you will get an option of adding page numbers.
See that once and let us know how it goes.

  • Page navigation in Acrobat does not match page numbers in the document

    I have a document in both Framemaker format (server.book) and PDF (server.pdf).  When I view the pdf file in Adobe Acrobat, the page numbers appear correctly on the document itself, but up in the Page Navigation window within Acrobat the pages number doesn't match.
    In the beginning of the book I have Title page, a Table of Contents, and a Preface that all use lower-case roman numerals.  However, when viewing this document via Acrobat, the Title pages show up as i, and ii, but then the Table of Contents and Preface show up as pages 1 - 8 instead of iii - x in the page navigation window.
    I can't figure where this discrepancy is originating.
    Please help.

    Acrobat has no way to know which bit of character string on each page is the page number.
    The visible page number has never formed any part of Reader nav. as you point out, it couldn't.
    Acrobat knows the Numbering Properties of the pages as created in Frame. It just doesn't display or honor them consistently, depending on Reader version.
    I also use i, ii, iii, iv for pre-narrative material. The romans are displayed in the page number box of Acroread (this is AR7 on Unix). I can enter "ii" in the box, and go to that page. But the Print dialog is Ordinal only. Printing page ranges in AR7 is always off by 2 or 4 relative to the actual page numbers.
    Acrobat Pro 9 (9.4.5, Win7-64) seems to be more consistent, and does show and accept real page numbers for Print.

  • Why is Acrobat labeling my page numbers incorrectly?

    Whenever I open up Adobe Acrobat Pro X to convert a Word file to a PDF, it labels the page numbers incorrectly. For example, even though there are 8 pages it will say on the bottom right '1 out of 3 pages' or '7 out of 3 pages'. This also happens whenever I open the file in Word (2007) and click "save as --> PDF". The only time it gets the page numbers correct is when I open the file in Word, and click "Save As" and on the pop-up window I change the file type to PDF. The only problem with this is that most of the time I am trying to convert as many as 100 files at a time and this get can excruciatingly tedious after a while...please help and save me from a lot of clicking!
    Let me know if you need anymore details...

    I think you may find this happening if you print to paper from WORD also. As I recall, it was a bug in WORD and an update of WORD resolves the problem. However, it has been a long time since this has been reported and so I may have remembered wrong. It would not hurt to update Acrobat also. You did not mention the version number of either, or your OS, so I am just suggesting typical things.

  • Page numbers inserted as footer in Acrobat print in wrong place (but fine on-screen)

    Hi there,
    I have used Adobe Acrobat X Pro to create a PDF from a Word 2010 .docx file and a PDF file (originally created in InDesign CS5.5). The Word Document is about 115 pages, and the PDF is about 12. The PDF is inserted after page 100.
    I then applied page numbers to all of the pages using the Header/ Footer option in Acrobat. And these display perfectly on screen and when re-opened in Acrobat Reader.
    However, when one prints the document, the top and bottom margins seem to shift (the top margin no longer seems to stay put, but sometimes page content (mostly text) shifts down) and the page numbers, instead of being fixed at approx 2cm from the bottom of the page as on-screen, instead seem to float about 2cm below the last line of text on a page. This looks terrible, particularly on pages where text terminates half-way up a page (chapter ends etc.).
    I have tried multiple printers and updated all drivers. Still no luck. Please help!

    Changing body text is not simple. It's a desperate last resort. You need to buy the exact font. Acrobat will not let you edit in a font you don't own. Even then, it's undertain. Consider preparing an overlay in InDesign.

  • I am using CC adobe Acrobat to combine multiple pdfs and add page numbers. Mac users can no longer read the page numbers but pc users can.

    I am using CC adobe Acrobat to combine multiple pdfs and add page numbers. As of about 2 weeks ago the mac users can no longer read the page numbers they get a font error message and see only -- where the page information should be. The pc users do not have this same problem. When I replace our regular font (URW Grotesk) with a system font (Verdana) everyone is able to read the page numbers. This is a new issues, I have been creating these documents in the same way for years without a problem. I have been on hold and on and off calls for the last two hours, I keep getting hung up on once I find someone in adobe support to talk to!

    Hi KnoopL,
    Are the Mac users using Preview to view the pdfs or Adobe Reader?

  • Display page numbers in Acrobat Pro 9

    I was just upgraded to Acrobat Pro 9. On my previous version of Acrobat, when viewing a multi-page PDF there was a field at the bottom of the page that said that I was on "Page X of Y". I deal with a lot of large documents, and I need to be able to track where I am, especially when I'm adding and deleting groups of pages.
    In Acrobat 9, the display that tells me what page I'm on is missing. I've searched through the menus, preferences, knowledgebase, etc, and I haven't been able to find something that will turn this on.
    I'm not talking about adding page numbers to a document. I just want to know that when I'm paging through a 300+ page PDF, I'm on the Xth page of the document.
    Is this available in version 9?

  • Problem with page numbering in Acrobat XI Pro

    Hello community,
    I got a problem with page numbering with certain documents in Acrobat XI Pro.
    The next error comes up:
    Translated in English:
    There is an error occured when getting up of page-content.
    This is occured with certain pdf-documents (i cannot uploading this file).
    Is someone have similar problem, or has someone hev a sollution for this?
    Greetings,
    Bart

    This usually means the file is corrupt, probably because it was not created
    using a standard application like Adobe Acrobat.

  • Creating PDFs using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and can only see the first 10 pages in PDF even when the page numbers on bottom state 10 of 13 (or any number greater than 10).

    PDFs create great, unless they should be over 10 pages and then it appears the data was converted to PDF by viewing the page numbers at the bottom of the PDF but you can only view the first 10 pages in the pdf file.

    Hi stephaniec0103,
    Could you please let me know what exact dot version of Acrobat 9 and OS you are using.
    Have you tried repairing Acrobat from the Help menu?
    Acrobat 9 is an older version and incompatible with new OS versions, so I would suggest you to try using Acrobat XI (latest version) and check for the same.
    You may download a 30-day free trial version of Acrobat from the below mentioned link:
    Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat XI Professional
    Let me know how it goes.

  • Merging PDF / Page Numbers / Acrobat SDK V9  & LiveCycle

    Hello everyone,
    I use Adobe LiveCycle to create forms, Visual Studio 2005 and the Acrobat SDK for the application I'm programming to fill in these forms. The application fills in the forms and merges them with no issues.
    The problem I have is that these pages have page numbers in the upper right. I use the Page N of M object on these forms in LiveCycle. PDF page numbers are filled in correctly when filling in the forms, but when I merge PDFs, the pages keep their original page numbers. I've looked at the Windows - Interapplication Communications even using templates to no avail.
    How can I merge these pdf's and have my program renumber these pages correctly and how can insert pages anywhere I want in the merge document?
    Below is the code I use to merge the PDF's. It was posted in a forum.
    Sub MergePDF(ByVal ThePath As String, ByVal outFileName As String)
    On Error GoTo serror
    Dim dPDDocMerge As New Acrobat.AcroPDDoc
    Dim dPDDoc As New Acrobat.AcroPDDoc
    Dim strFiles() As String
    Dim numPage As Integer
    Dim TotalPage As Integer
    Dim objThisFile As IO.FileInfo 'get FileInfo object for file string
    strFiles = System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(ThePath) ' Read in the file names
    Dim b As Boolean ' mostly for testing purposes... could use it for error 'checking to make sure that a file is really added before deleleting it...
    For i As Integer = 0 To strFiles.Length - 1 ' run through all the files in 'the directory
    objThisFile = New IO.FileInfo(strFiles(i)) ' Get the extension
    If objThisFile.Extension = ".pdf" Then ' Only add in PDFs
    If dPDDocMerge.GetFileName = "" Then ' check if it's the first file
    dPDDocMerge = New Acrobat.AcroPDDoc
    b = dPDDocMerge.Open(strFiles(i)) ' open first file
    TotalPage = dPDDocMerge.GetNumPages
    Else
    dPDDoc = New Acrobat.AcroPDDoc
    b = dPDDoc.Open(strFiles(i)) ' open other files
    numPage = dPDDocMerge.GetNumPages ' get the page count
    TotalPage += numPage
    b = dPDDocMerge.InsertPages(numPage - 1, dPDDoc, 0, dPDDoc.GetNumPages, _ False) ' Insert
    End If
    End If
    Next
    'b = dPDDocMerge.Save(1, ThePath & "\" & outFileName) ' save file
    b = dPDDocMerge.Save(1, ThePath & "\" & "\MyTest.PDF") ' save file
    b = dPDDocMerge.Close()
    Exit Sub
    serror:
    MsgBox(ErrorToString)
    End Sub
    Thanks for any code or advice.

    You can't merge LiveCycle forms this way :(. LC forms are NOT standard PDF files and can't be processed in the same way.

  • Can Acrobat create a PDF using the same page numbers as FrameMaker?

    I'm using FrameMaker 10 on Windows 7 and Acrobat Pro 9. I know I can set the page numbers after I create the PDF (Advanced > Document Processing > Page Numbering), but is there any way to tell Acrobat (or Distiller) to do this automatically based on the page format set up in FrameMaker? Right now, the cover and inside cover have no page numbers, but I could assign them numbers and hide them. The TOC is lower case Roman numerals, and the rest of the book uses Arabic page numbering. Someone has asked whether we can have the page numbers be reflected in the page field so that when you enter page 10, it takes you to page 10 of the book (where 10 appears in the corner of the page), not the tenth page of the PDF, which might land you in the TOC.
    We produce PDFs as part of an automated system, which is why I can't mess with it after it's been produced.

    There is a FrameMaker plug-in that can do this:
    http://www.frameexpert.com/plugins/pagelabeler/index.htm
    Or, you might consider using PDFMark to add page labels.

  • Thumbnail Page Numbering in Acrobat 6.0

    Hi All
    I have Acrobat Professional 6.06 patched on a win XP Pro SP2, core 2duo, 3gb ram, Dell optiplex.
    When i insert extra pdf pages to a chapter of a pdf document the pages are knocked on in thumbnail view, if i delete the pages i inserted then all the chaptering is removed totally ruining the document. If the document is printed it reads okay with the numbering but in thumbnail view it is ruined and we need these thumbnail page numbering to be there for a customer.
    This is our procedure:
    Highlight all pages to be numbered
    Right click and select Number pages
    Ie. Numbering begin new section
    Prefix Chap 1 Page
    Start 1
    OK
    On the final page of the chapter repeat above but:
    Chap 1 Page 9/
    Start 10
    OK
    All subsequent chapters are numbered accordingly.
    I now want to add some pages to Chapter 1 because of an amendment. Page 9/10 will become 9 and pages 10 to 13/14 will be added.
    I insert 5 blank pages at the end of the chapter, then drop the amended pages on to the blank pages and renumber the thumbnails.
    Any subsequent chapters and their thumbnail page numbering should not be affected. -- this does not happen the pages are knocked on
    If I delete any page or extract and delete then all thumbnail page numbering disappears. --- This does not happen all chaptering dissappears and normal page numbering is in place.
    Any hekp or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    I've never heard of the problem. But what I'd do is to figure out which of the source PDFs is causing the problem. Try recreating the combined PDF file by removing one page/section at a time to try to isolate it. It could be that that source PDF needs to be recreated.

  • Acrobat X PRO; Not able to add page Numbers

    Have combined 20 MS Word files (.doc) into a single pdf.
    the Pdf file is of 5000+ Pages.
    when i try to insert page numbers of the format (Page 1 of n)
    (page numbering starts from page 2)
    Acrobat Pro hangs. I have to force close the application.
    This happens everytime.
    is there a solution to this?? Appreciate your Help.
    OS: Windows 7 SP1
    Microsoft Office 2010
    Acrobat X Pro

    Have you tried doing a Save As before applying the page numbers? Also, have you tried applying the page numbers in two or these passes instead of one?

  • I have installed Acrobat X PRO; Not able to add page Numbers, Acrobat Crashes.

    These are the steps that i follow,
    1) Group all the MS word files in one folder.
    2) combine files into Pdf
    3) From Tools, select Header and Footer and try to insert page numbers of the format (Page 1 of n)
    4) And adjust some header footer values,
    5) Select start the page numbering from page 2.
    6) Click OK -> Acrobat Pro hangs and then crashes.
    This happens everytime i try to do it. Please Help.
    I use Windows 7 SP1. Please let know if you need any other details.

    First, make sure you all the latest updates for Acrobat X. Next, try temporarily turning off Enhanced security under Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) to see if this might be interfering with something.

  • Does Acrobat X Standard Support "Edit Page Numbering Format"

    In Acrobate X Pro, I can edit page numbers using the "Edit Page Numbering Format" feature. This is the icon in the Customize Quick Tools dialog box:
    One of my users wants to know if Acrobat X Standard supports that feature?
    Thanks!

    Hi Joe,
    Yes, the 'Number Pages' option from 'Document Processing' is available in Acrobat X Standard too.  This tool functions the same in both Acrobat X Standard and Professional.
    This page provides a nice overview of the functionality differences between Std. and Pro.: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html

  • Acrobat custom page numbers (box around page numbers)

        Hi,
    I need to add page numbers to multiple documents and I need each page number to have a border box around it.  This is for an appendix I am putting together.  Is there an easy way to do this so that all pages are numbered sequentially with an alpha prefix (i.e. A1, A2, etc.) and so that each "A" number has a black box around it.  IF there is a more complicated way using java script or similar could someone be so friendly as to provide the basic script and explain how to apply it in Acrobat.  Then I can adjust attributes of the script unti it looks right.  I am using Acrobat Pro 9.
    Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated!!!

    The header/footer command only support text numbers so if you would like to include a graphic then you can use the Background command in conjunction with the Header/Footer command. You can create a background border box in another file that is placed around the page numbers using the Background command.

  • Acrobat XI page numbering issue

    After upgrading from acrobat 8.3 to acrobat XI page numbering takes 5 to 10 minutes per 80 page document. With acrobat 8.3 the same function took seconds. What can be done to improve this function. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have tried saving the doc in the higher version first but that does not seem to matter. A doc created with the new version is fast but the old ones are very very slow. Creating all new docs is not a good option since we have 500 or so.
