Acrobat 7 pdf printer won't install

Finally managed to get CS2 installed on a new Vista machine after old pc died, and apps appear to work. Acrobat 7 launches with no issues. However if I try to create a PDF from Word, it tells me the pdf printer isn't installed (and its not listed in printers). If I try to open the word file in acrobat, it tells me it can't find the adobe resources.
Any idea what the problem is? CS2 wouldn't install to the /Programs (x86) folder - installed to a new folder called /Programs x86.
Any help would be appreciated.
George

If you upgraded to VISTA X64, you also likely upgraded OFFICE also to OFFICE 2007. Both VISTA and OFFICE 2007 require AA8.1.2 I think (Vista had problems with earlier AA8 versions). Thus, AA7 is an issue that you are lucky if you get it to work in those environments. Actually it would be nice if MS would quit messing up their OS so that other software has to be upgraded. Adobe works at a rather low level of the system and getting all the bugs out when trying to follow MS specifications is apparently a real pain (think MS makes their specs kind of crazy on purpose - and folks often need to complain to MS rather than the software vendors). You might have heard that MS had to add their help system back in after the fact (they had purposely removed it from VISTA) since their own OFFICE products used the help system. Apparently a lot of companies also complained about Netmeeting that originally was dropped from VISTA and a new version was added that is VISTA compatible. Bill

  • PDF Printer won't install

    Hey all,
I have a Windows XP SP3 here with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM. When I install CS4, I am able to install everything BUT the PDF printer for Adobe PDF.
Is there a way to fix this/install it manually?
I've reformatted twice and reinstalled 7 times and this is never fixed.

In installation process of Acrobat Professional 7 , its showing that Adobe Pdf printer is not Installed...need help to install the software completely

If it is Win 7 or later, the Adobe PDF printer for AA 7 will not install and AcroTray will not function. You will have to install a PS driver from Adobe or maybe an HP color PS printer driver. Then edit the driver properties and change the name to Adobe PDF and the port to FILE. You will always have to do an extra step in creating PDFs by opening the file that is created in Distiller to get the PDF.
If you are talking about Win 8, you may not be successful at all. If you got Acrobat and Distiller to install, then there is a chance.

  • Firefox 28 hangs when I try to print to Acrobat PDF printer

    Hello all!
I have observed a problem when I try to print a webpage in Firefox v28 using the Acrobat PDF Printer (Acrobat Pro 9.5.5) installed in a Virtual Machine (VMware View 5.2) with Windows 7 64 bits. The printing dialog hangs (no response) after the "Save as" pdf dialog. Then I have to force Firefox to close, and afterward a Acrobat PDF conversion dialogs appears with the progress bar stopped at the middle. I also have to close this afterwards.
The others programs (Office, IE, Notepad...) are able to print through the PDF printer without problems. The problem appeared after the automatic update to Firefox v28, since when I downgrade to Firefox v26 the problem disappears.
I checked a similar configuration in a physical computer (W7 64 bits, Acrobat Pro 9.5.5, Firefox v28), and everything runs good, so I think it is a change that happened in Firefox v28 that has some problem with the VM configuration. I also have tried to change the Firefox profile, reset Firefox and reset the printing settings and reinstall Acrobat. No luck.
I would like to know if somebody know some change in Firefox v28 related with the printing or related to some service or update that can have some problem in the virtual machine.
    Any help is welcome!
    Thanks!

When you updated, did you reset the printer settings in '''about:config''' under '''print.print_printer'''?

  • Reader 9 Acrobat PDF Printer Driver Continuously Installs

Since I have installed Reader 9, the Acrobat PDF Printer Driver Continuously Installs in the background degrading system performance. Does anyone else have this problem? It auto created a System Restore point, so check that. I am running XP with all patches applies.

    Hi Mike,
I have exactly the same problem that you describe. At first I thought it might be malicious software that was installing a fake driver, but after running Malware, Spybot and some other programs, I'm still left with the problem. I have a lot of Adobe software installed (Adobe Premiere Elements 7, Adobe Acrobat Pro 8, Adobe Audition 3, Adobe PhotoShop 7 and of course Adobe Reader 9, plus as you indicate Adobe Air and Acrobat.com I'm not sure when my problem started, since I only recognized it when I went to do a system restore. It appears to install the driver about once a minute. This leaves me with about 3 days worth of useless restore points.
The only advice that I have received is to un-install all my Adobe stuff, then check the System Restore, then one by one re-install the packages checking each time what happens in the system restore.
Have you found any solution since your original post?

  • Acrobat PDF Printer Hangs in Windows 8

I am running Windows 8 Enterprise RTM  64-bit on an Intel i7-3770 3rd gen CPU, Z77 chipset. I've found that most PDF printers I have been using on Windows 7 now hang on 8, including the Acrobat X printer (latest version). I have found one free alternative that works fine, but would like to get back to using the Acrobat printer. Will Adobe be releasing an update that addresses the hang?
Above is a screenshot afterr more than ten minutes:

    Hello All
I have been struggling with this same problem of Printing to Acrobat PDF driver freezing up not only the print spooler, but also the software I was printing from, on Windows 7 64Bit, using both acrobat 9.4 and Acrobat X with the same freeze, stall lockup result.
I think this is the same problem you are having.
I found many questions about this online but no useful answers, and alot of fingerpointing trying to blame different programs and combinations of software.
The 1 solution, which created a PDF and did not freeze, was to switch of the choice of a saving location in the PDf driver and setting a fixed PDF save location instead of the ASK for location option.
This worked but was a real pain having to move and rename the file each time.
This got me thinking that there was actually nothing wrong with the PDF driver.
The problem seemed to be the user input to save the file to a certain location.
I then experimented and found that if I was fast enough with a file name, that the save to location option did not freeze up when creating the PDF.
By repeatedly trying to print and looking at the print dialog box I noticed that after a count of 5 seconds the Acrobat PDF print driver progress box greyed slightly (Asif loosing focus) and after that happened there was no hope of a successful PDF.
The 5second timer got me thinking about a windows timeout, rather than a PDF option.
    PDF Print Freeze Problem Solution:
Windows 7 64 bit (And I assume Windows 8 too) has a default program timeout of 5 seconds after which Windows considers a program to be NOT RESPONDING.
The time during which the PDF printer is waiting for a response from you for a save location, is seen as inactive by Windows and Windows decides that the Print driver has stalled.
Something then changes anough to effect the driver, and once the PDF print driver is allowed to carry on and save the PDF it can't anymore and stalls.
Solution is to edit the HungAppTimout in the Windows Registry, and set it to something like 20000 to 30000 = 20 to 30 seconds.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc978614.aspx (Info regarding the Registry Key)
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\HungAppTimeout
This then give you 20-30 seconds to select a save location for your PDF.
In my case (Windows 7 64bit) the Registry entry was missing.
I had to create it from scratch and reboot.
    If ENTRY IS MISSING:
Goto the folder in the registry
Right Click  - NEW - STRING VALUE
Name it exactly as above including CAPS: HungAppTimeout
Set the value to 20000 (For 20 seconds or more if you need it)
    Reboot Windows.
After that Printing to PDf with Acrobat works 100%.
Note this option also helped on my Windows XP PC.
I hope this prevents others from struggling as much as I did to fogure this out.

  • I cannot get an Adobe pdf printer to correctly install in windows 7 64 bit

I purchased Acrobat Pro XI and installed and it went fine.  I then installed my copy of Master Collection 5.5, it didn't install Acrobat X, and the printer disappeared.  I have tried to repair my XI installation, but it won't do it, and I have tried to uninstall it to reinstall it, but it won't let me do that either.  I cannot find the location for a correct Adobepdf.inf file wherte it is supposed to be.  I find two in windows/system32/driverstore, but they do not work correctly.

    Hi stampguy,
You might want to refer the thread : Re: Manually installing  PDF Printer  to add printer manually.
Usually repairing Acrobat brings the pdf printer back.
Please try updating to the latest patch 11.0.7 and check.

  • PDF-writer won't install.

We have a user that where we install Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 it won't install the pdfwriter.
So you can't make any files to pdf.
We have tested to uninstall and install the program again.
    Any tips?

So - no resolution.  No way to get technical support without payint (that I know of anyway).  Acrobat works fine but there is no Adobe PDF Printer.  Can't live without it.  Resolution:  I installed CutePDF Writer as a printer.  It's really a shame that I have purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro Professional and I can't so much as get a PDF Printer - or any help in resloving my problem - so I have to resort to the free (and prefectly adequate) competitor.  I can't help thinking: If CutePDF writer works as a printer, what is with Adobe PDF printer that it disappears.  Surely it is Adobe's problem.

  • No Acrobat PDF Printer

    Hi,
I have OS X 10.5, Adobe Creative Suite 3 with Acrobat Pro 9. I installed CS3, without the Acrobat option as per the advised setup instructions, restarted the Apple, then installed Acrobat Pro 9 and then rebooted. The PDF printer is not available when I try to print from any application on the Apple. It's as if the PDF printer itself hasn't been installed.
Can you advise on how to add the PDF printer in as the installtion procedure doesn't seem to work.
    Thanks
    Chris

Under the help menu there should be a choice to repair the installation
of Acrobat. This should restore the pdf printer.

  • Acrobat PDF Printer STILL freezes when pasting filename into Save dialog

Ref: Acrobat Printer Freezes on Save when CTL+V is used
No change in Acrobat X.  Printing system still freezes up entirely when pasting a filename into the Save dialog, when printing to Adobe PDF printer.  Most often from Firefix (all versions through 28.0) but from other programs as well (also happens from MS Outlook 2010 32 bit).
Any chance of an update from Adobe?
Acrobat Pro X on Win 7 64 bit.  Multiple systems exhibit same behavior.
Same issue occurs in Acrobat XI Standard.
Workaround is possible by manually typing in filename, or renaming, but clearly this should not be happening.  If you forget, it requires a lot of steps (or a reboot) to try again.

If you copy text directly from FireFox (or Word, or pretty much any program, other than Notepad), and try to paste into the Save Dialog to save your PDF, guaranteed crash.
HOWEVER, if you paste the text into Notepad first, and then copy it again, you can then paste into the Save dialog no problem.  This is why the "test" that the Adobe rep did to recreate the problem was pointless: He managed to re-create the one workaround method that DOES work, instead of actually trying to do things the way that were causing the issue to show up.
The problem appears to be related to any sort of "rich" text.  Windows ignores the "rich" information and only keeps the text if you paste into a filename in the system.  So Windows handles it just fine, it's Adobe's save dialog that can't handle it.  Copied text from Firefox is usually pretty clean (IE is worse), but there must be some formatting remnants in there that are giving Adobe fits (instead of properly ignoring them).  It may have something to do with 64-bit Windows and 32-bit Firefox and 64-bit Acrobat all coming together?  Copying and pasting between 64-bit and 32-bit programs usually has no issues, but in this case, it does (although the 64/32 bit relation is pure speculation on my end).
But by "washing" your text through Notepad first, it completely strips it down to truly pure plain text, which can then be pasted into Adobe's Save dialog without a crash.  This adds an extra step, and should be entirely unnecessary, but it does work.  At least until Adobe fixes their program.

  • Acrobat PDF Printer don´t work

When I choose File->Print->"Adobe PDF Printer" from any application (i.E. "Ai") I get following two windows. The first Window will disappear with 100%, but the second don´t and no file will be created?!!??!??!?
My system: Win7 64 and Adobe CC (Acrobat XI Pro)
Can anyone help me to fix this, please?
Used CS5 a few days before and it does the job.

You will need to manually create using the link tool or if you're lucky
(and the destination URL is spelt out in the text) use Advanced /
Document Processing / Create from URLs option.

  • Acrobat 9 Professional won't install from CS4 discs

I am not able to install Acrobat 9 Pro from my CS4 DVDs. All of the other programs install.
    I have tried the following:
    - Uninstalled all other versions of Acrobat Professional
    - Copied the DVDs to the desktop and tried installing from there
    - Used the Microsoft Windows Installer Utility (could not find any references to Acrobat Professional)
    - Disabled anti-virus software
    - Disabled Windows startup services that might conflict
    Nothing has worked.
I found something online that indicated the problem might be a corrupt data1.cab file.
Does anyone have suggestions on what I can try next?
    Thank you!

The Acrobat 9 download won't accept my CS4 license.  What I ended up doing was jumping through several hoops to get this to work:
Edited Acrobat out of the registry - no change, still pauses during installation
    Uninstall CS4 entirely
Run Adobe CS4 Clean Script - see http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
    Run Microsoft Installer Cleanup program
    Reinstall CS4 including Acrobat
Neither the registry edit, Clean Script or Microsoft installer cleanup fix the problem on their own.  Yet, when I did them all in succession, Acrobat installed successfully - finally!  I hope this information spares someone else from investing too many hours to fix their installation problem.
