Acrobat 7 Professional - PDF Writer errors out in Print Queue

Hello,
I'm an IT Technician.  We've just imaged many of our machines and several of our secretaries use Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional so I re-deployed that application, along with the 7.1.3 update.  Everything works fine for me, including some of our test accounts.  For this secretary, though, every time she goes to print something to 'Adobe PDF' the progress bar flashes quickly, it errors out in the print queue, and no document is created.  If I log in, or use another account with similar rights to her's, it works just fine.  I have removed Adobe Reader from it, done all the update, even gave her full control over that printer but still no luck.
Any ideas?  Thanks!

When you print to the Adobe PDF printer, it normally creates a PS file in a specific location and AcroTray then notes the PS file and proceeds to finish the job of calling Distiller. Doing the Print-to-file was just to check that the basic functions work. If they do not, then which one fails - the print to file or Distiller. These steps should help isolate the problem and give you some direction to go. Sometimes it is just easier to reinstall or repair the current setup. If the person is not logged in as an administrator, is it possible that the installation restricted the application to only administrators?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 PDF Writer replaces default printer

I have tried to look this up but no one seems to have a definitive answer for this problem. First let me explain my organization's set-up and what the problem is.
I work for a high school with several PC's running a mix of Windows 7 and Windows XP in our network. We have several computer labs (all of the labs are running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit). Our network administrator has set the default network printer for each lab in Group Policy. Our server is running Windows 2008 Server R2. Our labs have Adobe Design Suite CS4 (with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4).
The problem? When students log on to the computers, the default printer gets changed from the network printer that it should be to the Adobe PDF Writer. I have been unable to find a solution to this problem anywhere. What I need to know first of all is what type of problem is this? Is there a setting somewhere that I can change to turn it off? Is it in Group Policy? Is it in Adobe Acrobat? Someone on another forum even suggested it might be a Microsoft Word problem. Is Word the program that changes the default? Is it something else?
PLEASE if anyone has a solution to this problem let me know! We're wracking our brains over here.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I believe I am having similar issues to yourself. I have been looking for solutions for a day or two now but can not find anything. Have you managed to find a resolution or work around?

  • Acrobat 8.1.7 -- Error 1920.Service Print Spooler?

I have a valid key on an installed version of Adobe Acrobat 8.1.7. (AA8 Standard installed on a XP system)
It fails to create a PDF document and the Error 1920 apprears before it shuts down.
When, per representative suggestion, I attempt to uninstall it and then re-install with the valid key, it then reports:
Error 1920.Service Print Spooler (Spooler) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system services.
I verified that I have a valid key on My Adobe using my email address, etc.
But I see no way out of this 'dead end'.
After attempting to remove or repair the installation in add/remove programs, I get the support info:
    Adobe Acrobat 8.1.7 - CPSID_50029
But when I go there I see nothing that tells me how to fix the problem.
How do I unstall and re-install this so I can continue to use my AA8 on my XP system?

    David:
I found that helpful input, yes.
The tech I spoke with told me to use a cleaner program to force erasure so
    I could reinstall it.
He failed to tell me that you better be sure you have your original disk,
because you can't download AA8 via a web.
The best solution is to upgrade, which I would be more likely consider if
some consideration were given for all the headaches of trying to get AA8
    back up and running.
The principal being "If you can't make what I already have work, why should
    I pay for your update?"
I will continue to look for the disc and let you know how that goes....

  • Canon printer randomly erroring out during printing.

A few weeks ago I bought a new AEBS and hooked up my Canon MP530 printer to it. I printed out a few things from my Mac. My wife printed out a few things from her PC. Everything seemed fine.
Today I go to print out a simple two page pdf and about 75% of the way through page 1, the printer stops. I look in the print queue and it is just sitting there saying it is printing, but nothing is happening. I click the pause button in the print queue, and the printer spits out the paper and essentially cancels the job.
I try reprinting several times, but every time it does the exact same thing at a random point. Sometimes it almost completes, sometimes it errors after 1/4 of a page.
I clicked the "reset all printer functions" or whatever it is called in the print queue and that didn't help.
I was using the default Leopard Canon printers, which are the exact same version number as what Canon has on their site. I have never had a problem in the past 6 months using a direct USB connection, but I figure I would try reinstalling the drivers. I follow the instructions given by Canon to remove the old drivers and install the new ones. Of course, there is no change.
I connect the printer via USB and print the document no problem without changing a single setting.
I look in the error log and this is what I see (I set a marker before I tried printing, so this is the exact point that I clicked print):
I [03/Jun/2008:18:55:15 -0400] [Job 4] Adding start banner page "none".

I [03/Jun/2008:18:59:10 -0400] Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to find out more.
The first line that starts with "E" is after 3 minutes of the printer sitting there doing nothing. I clicked the pause button. This caused the printer to eject the paper. A couple seconds later I clicked resume and nothing happened. About 10 seconds later I click the delete job button (the second "E" line mentioning signal 14).
This "crash on signal 14" is the error message every single time. I did a google search and only came up with one other mention of this and it was another user asking *** was going on.
Since it works via USB, I can only assume that it is a problem with the base station or the printer drivers. Has anyone had this error before and what did you do to fix it?

You can check the cartridge warranty as shown here.  The warranty for cartridges is separate from the printer warranty and is generally two years from the date of manufacture.

  • Acrobat 9 - PDF doesn't open after print

After updating Acrobat 9, my PDF printer was renamed to "Adobe PDF (Copy 1)" and after printing, the created PDF does not open automatically. How can I change the setting back to have the PDF open after printing?
I tried renaming the printer to "Adobe PDF".  There is only one PDF printer.  I checked the settings of the printer, and believe them to be correct.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I do not know why you have a copy of the Adobe PDF printer. The original Adobe PDF printer is used for printing to a PDF and the settings are found in the properties under the settings tab. You might have to select the advanced button on the general tab first. Some of the properties require stepping into another level of menus.

  • Acrobat Professional 8 in XP - new problem printing

    Hi all,
I'm running Windows XP, Acrobat Pro 8 on the same laptop for a few years, no problems.  In the last few days, when I print a PDF, it shows as an 8.5x11 page in the preview, but when it prints it is landscape, printing on two pages.  I have reinstalled the product, rerun the updates, and the same problem persists.  Any thoughts?  I have tried PDFs from a variety of sources - all with the same result.
    Thanks for any help.

I am not clear on what you are seeing, but check the preferences of the Adobe PDF printer (assuming you are printing and not using PDF Maker). There is an auto-rotate option that might be an issue, as well as the orientation issue. Consider some of these choices in the preferences as though you were putting paper in a regular printer and possibly sideways. Many of the settings are a bit confusing, even with the manual. Testing out the options often helps the process.

  • Acrobat 9 std.- "internal error" / "out of memory"

I am using Acrobat Standard 9.0, which has updated itself to 9.2.0.  When I try to use the text box tool, I get an error message "internal error".  When I try to close this window sometimes if I click on it enough times then I get an error message "out of memory".  I have a computer with WinXP and 4GB of RAM, so I got curious and I checked it in task manager.  With Acrobat running task manager shows that 446MB of RAM is in use.  When the error message pops up within 5 seconds the ram usage has climbed to about 2400MB of RAM used.  Acrobat eventually terminates on its own and the RAM usage drops back to 420MB used.  I had no problems until Acrobat auto-updated itself.

    Hi Sanjay,
Currently, the lower bound of Matchbox's memory footprint is 16 * instanceCount * (4*traitCount + 2*ratingCount) bytes. Here
ratingCount is the difference between the largest and the smallest rating in the dataset (I believe 5 in your case). So it looks like you'll need about 50 GB of RAM. I believe that this will often be available on the production machines, unless there
isn't some other heavy experiment scheduled on the same machine. Also, please note that we're in the process of improving the recommender in a way that it can read the input data in batches, and thus process very large datasets.
As to the case when there's enough memory, you might be hitting a model serialization issue (as discussed in
this thread). Would you please look at the last few lines of the output log of the trainer in order to verify this? This log can be found by clicking on the failing module and then on "View output
    log" on the right.
I guess the solution for now will be to select a subset of the data (probably based on the time when the rating was given).

  • Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 scanned logo prints red.

On a computer with Windows Vista Ultimate, I have a logo on a MS Word 2007 document that consists of a light blue circle, three light blue letters in the foreground. A light gray Chinese ideograph and a single red arrow in the background. All of this on a white background.
When I print the Word document to the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn, all is well. When the document is converted to a PDF, and the PDF is subsequently printed the entire background is red???.
    Any thoughts?

I assume it's in stalled as a postScript printer (PS), if so check the following: (it's specific to certain Hp laserjet printers, maybe others as well.)
in the Acrobat print dialog click on Advanced, then select PostScript options there uncheck the box for Discolored background correction and try printing again.

  • Error Message in Print Queue (HP 5440, Windows 7)

Anytime I try to print any document, it delays for about a minute than it says Error - Printing.  There's no specific error ever mentioned.  It happens regarless of the type of document I'm printing.  The test print has the same result.  I'm running Windows 7.  The printer previously printed fine.  The only changes I am aware of are that I changed the ink and the USB plugs have been unplugged.
I followed the troubleshoot guide listed here, with no success.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
I'm at a loss to figure out what the problem is.  Anyone have any ideas?

bump, anyone.  This reached page three without any speculation.  I was hoping there was some kind of common error that doesn't get accounted for.  I should point out the only step I did not follow on that troubleshoot guide was to uninstall and reinstall the software.  The software wasn't listed as being on my computer when I tried that step, so I couldn't follow through.  I'm guessing that has to do with my USB install and the fact that I downloaded the drivers from the internet, but this is something that a lot of people do.  Plus it worked previously.

  • HT1349 My macbook pro will not print to wireless printer-it just printed fine the other day.  Even reloaded the printer driver, etc, message is "there is a communication error" -in the printer queue it says it is printing then error message pops up

Macbook Pro unable to print to wireless printer-other PC prints fine and mac just printed a couple days ago just fine.  Tried reboot of router-no change, tried reinstall printer driver, etc, no change.  what do I do now?

As you can see here, that particular Canon printer is not supported by AirPrint:

  • Acrobat Pro 8 Print queue error, but pdf is created fine...

I'm running xp pro, and acrobat pro 8, every time I try to print a pdf, I get an error with the print queue although it still makes a pdf every time! I've tried the repair tool in acrobat and also uninstall/reinstall but I get the same deal every time.
Its more an annoyance than anything as I still get the pdf files but I'm thinking something must be wrong to throw up an error every single time!
Any help would be good :)

Alternatively, look at using digital signatures and the security
policies. This method ensures that only the person with the matching
certificate can open the file and have specific options ...
It would involve swapping digital ID files but once set-up, it's very
powerful ... just uses Acrobat 8 and even Reader ..

  • Adobe PDF Writer (v5.0) won't install; can't find LPT1 port

I've searched extensively for an answer on this question, and the most common answer is no answer or use a newer PDF creator.
The department I support uses database software that was never programmed to support any PDF creator past PDF Writer, so all users of this software have Acrobat Professional 5.0.5 installed using the "Custom" option to include the PDF Writer.
All workstations run XP, sp3.  I have never seen this problem on any other machine.  I have installed version 5 on other machines with newer installations of Acrobat (7,8, and 9) with no functionality issues.  The machine that won't install the PDF Writer had V8 installed.  I have removed Acrobat V8 to try to get the V5 installation to run.  I have tried running the V5 installation first without PDF Writer, and then adding in the PDF Writer.
In all cases, as soon as you click "Install" after checking "PDF Writer", the error "Acrobat PDF Writer requires a LPT1: printer port.  Setup could not find this required port.  The PDF Writer component will not be installed.  To install PDF Writer, add a LPT1: port and run setup again" always appears, and the installation tries to continue without the PDF Writer.
This computer has a fully-functioning LPT1 port (as well as LPT2 and LPT3) which is not in use by any other printers (according to the printer properties display).  XP shows the port under Device Manager as functioning properly, although I have both disabled/re-enabled the port, as well as uninstalling it and rebooting, at which point it re-installs properly.
All high-priority Windows XP updates are current and again, on similar machines, similarly imaged, I have never had this problem using the same media.  I have tried installing a printer on this port and adding drivers.  All machine users have Administrator privileges (unfortunately)
Due to the large quantity of data and software on this user's machine (and the fact that otherwise it runs great), I would REALLY rather not re-image the machine.
Any help or ideas will be GREATLY appreciated.

Hey, good idea, and I hadn't done it, but nothing is remaining from any previous Acrobat installs (according to the Cleanup Utility).  I do pretty good registry cleanup on these machines as I work on them for other reasons/updates.
    Other ideas?
