Acrobat 8.1.3 administrative install bug

When I install adobe 8.1.3 from an administrative installation that has been updated to 8.1.3 the install goes fine. However when I go to help -> about in adobe it shows up as 8.1.2 not 8.1.3 (add/remove programs shows up as 8.1.3).
If I apply the 8.1.3 msp directly to an 8.1.2 install on a workstation and then go to help -> about it shows up as 8.1.3 like you'd expect.

Do you have any detail on how the administrative package was put together?

Acrobat 9 Pro will NOT install (CS4 Design Premium)
Acrobat Pro 9 will not install (FAILED), although every other program on the CS4 DVDs did install properly.
I have followed the instructions, and have tried with no programs running, not even virus protection (which is an insane thing for Adobe to demand of a product being installed where the installation routine is expecting an Internet connection): FAILED.
I uninstalled my Acrobat 6 Pro, (a standalone Pro version that I had to have  a few years ago.) I uninstalled that working program knowing I had no idea where my original Adobe Acrobat CD is located, so I was essentially cutting myself off of Acrobat Pro if the Acrobat 9 Pro install continued to fail.
I reported this to Adobe support online.
I have followed the instructions to disable startup items and services, then tried the Acrobat 9 Pro install: FAILED.
At that point, I gave up installing Acrobat 9 Pro. I didn't have any more time to screw with it - I would re-visit the installation failure later.
Lo and behold, a client sent me a PDF file of a brochure, in an email, and I had to grab some text from it to put on his website (Done in Dreamweaver CS4.) Well, damn, now I'll have to go back and get that install to work...FAILED!
Suspecting a problem in the installation routine on the DVD, I decided to download the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro. So, I did. It downloaded and installed without a hiccup, and I had Acrobat 9 Pro working for 30 days...
I did what I had to do, using the trial version, then figured I would re-visit the installation issue later, when I had a few hours to dedicate to all the hell of calling Adobe software support, handholding, maybe registry edits, multiple reboots, and multiple attempts at doing everything again, just so the support person would know that I did follow all the steps correctly to prove thw outcome is sill FAILED!
Oh crap, I got another PDF file. No problem, I thought, I don't need to edit the PDF, just read it. When I tried to open the file, Acrobat 9 Pro plastered a screen over the program - the screen saying my 30 day trial version has now run out, demanded a serial number, or quit. My CS4 serial number would not activate it, and so I had to quit, not even being able to read the PDF file.
So, I un-installed the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro that had installed without a hitch and had worked flawlessly for 30 days.
Now I'm going to have to visit hell, and get the software that I paid hundreds of dollars for to work...
Please STOP and NOTE: Acrobat 9 Pro installed perfectly from the downloaded Internet version. What does that tell you? There are no operating system issues, no hardware compatibility issues  (which I knew anyway, as the OS and hardware is up to date.) Even more significantly, there is no issue with the Windows registry, or other versions of Adobe Acrobat that had been installed before in the machine. My conclusion was that it has to be a problem with the installation routine on the CS4 disks.
So, I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe personnel: software support, to customer service, to sales, to customer service, and back to sales. After software support came to the conclusion that I needed to UNINSTALL ALL OF CS4, and run a clean-up utility, I knew I had to try getting a new set of DVDs and hope the installation routine problems/bugs had been worked out.
After being batted back and forth by Adobe Customer Service and Adobe Sales, I finally got someone to agree to send a set of DVDs to me.
I got the DVDs. I tried to install Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro: FAILED
As I told the software support person, I do not want to un-install the entire CS4 suite. I have all of those programs working fine, and have about a dozen web sites within Dreamweaver CS4 painstakingly set up and active, and some of them are current projects that I am working on daily. I also have multiple extensions installed, and spent quite a bit of time getting all of those programs set up for my preferences and my work flow. I DO NOT WANT to uninstall the entire suite of applications to get Acrobat 9 Pro to install.
And the conclusion of the "sophisticated" Adobe Support Advisor as to what specifically was the instalation issue?
    Adobe Support Advisor
The module found no solutions to report for the selected log file.
If you continue to have difficulties with the application,
    please contact Adobe Support: http://www.adobe.com/support
    System Information :
    Operating System = Windows XP

At this point, what I want is to know what registry keys to edit and which folder(s) to delete to eliminate previous traces of Acrobat. In other words, just exactly the tiny piece of the "clean-up utility" that I need to run in order to allow the *Y#^%@#&#(& installation routine to work for Acrobat 9 Pro. I have no intention of uninstalling Dreamweaver CS4, as that is my business livlihood, and I know that my Dreamweaver CS4 client files/sites could not be read by earlier Dreamweaver versions. Asking me to uninstall Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, and Fireworks is insane. Your bad installation routine is not my fault, and you cannot expect me spend countless hours getting all those programs set up the way I want and with all my client/work files working correctly and all the extensions set up properly. So, if Adobe software support refuses to tell me what registry keys need to be changed, then I want Adobe Sales to send me a new, standalone version of Acrobat 9 Pro on disk.

I hit the same problem except I had a Reader X installed not a pro version.  For me the solution was to really make sure that nothing else was running.  I followed the steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso2 the link is goofy so here is the pertinent text:

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro requires administrative password on every launch--whats with that?

Since upgrading to Mavericks my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro requires administrative password on every launch which seems like an unnecessary step.  Does anyone know why this is happening and what can be done to eliminate this?

Download and run the combo updater to refresh your files.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 (Update (Combo)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1746
Open Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions
You might need to remove and reinstall Acrobat. Be sure you are in an admin account when installing.

Acrobat 10 Pro: Unable to Install Updates After Virus Removed: Receive Error 1310 ?
Attempted to re-install the original Adobe Acrobat 10 Pro from the disk provided with the purchase; and it has put me in a trial; and is requesting that I purchase the software I already paid for, two years ago.

You can try a repair (may need to go to Control Panel>Programs & Features). A reinstall is a last resort, but if you go there be sure to uninstall from the control panel, run http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, and remove any part left of the Acrobat folder. Then reboot as the administrator and reinstall. Be sure to disable antivirus during the install.

    Hey,
Please ensure that you are logged in as administrator and anti-virus is disabled while installing Acrobat.
Let me know the link from where you are trying to download Acrobat.
Please try downloading from a different browser and check.

  • Can't update administrative install to 9.1.2

I'm trying to add an update to my administrative install for Acrobat Pro.  I first made an administrative install for Acrobat Pro 9.0.  I then added the update AcroProStd910_T1T2_incr.msp to it with a command of the form
      msiexec /a \\server\share\acropro.mis /p c:\AcroProStd910_T1T2_incr.msp
I then applied AcrobatUpd911_all_incr.msp in the same way.  After that I tried to add AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp in the same way.  It appears to start the update and then gives the following error:
Error 2602.  The File table entry 'Annots.api_911' has no associated entry in the media table.
I could install Acro Pro from the msi that was updated with AcrobatUpd911_all_incr.msp (prior to applying AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp) and it installs.  I can then do an Adobe update and update it to 9.1.2.  So, I assume my admin install with 9.1.1 is OK.  I just don't seem to be able to update my admin install to 9.1.2.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.  Thanks.

In an attempt to get this straightened out I made an administrative install of Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 with no updates and then installed it on a Vista computer.  I then used Adobe updater to see what it wanted to do to update it.  Instead of trying to update to 9.1.0, then 9.1.1 then 9.1.2 Adobe updater wanted to go directly to 9.1.2.  So, I thought perhaps that's the problem - Perhaps I should skip the intermediate updates and update my 9.0.0 with AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp.  When I attempt to do so it says:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program.  Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.
So, what is the correct procedure to create an administrative install for Acrobat Pro 9?  Do I need to install 9.1.0, 9.1.1 and 9.1.2?  If so, why am I getting the error described in my previous post?
Note: I'm making these admin installs using a Vista system.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Acrobat downloads but does not install automatically?

I am running windows 8.1 and nothing happens after down load and it is not in my download folder?

Make sure that you are logged in as administrator and anti-virus software is disabled on your machine.

    Hi halb10567672,
You can download the setup file again from this Link (Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X ) and Burn it to a DVD Disc using Windows Explorer.
Please revert back for any further query or assistance.

  • Acrobat X Pro does not install PDF toolbar in Firefox, but does in IE.  How to fix?

Also, I see that Acrobat X Pro does not install all plugins.  There are several that I want shown as not installed.  But how can I get these installed, as there is no button to say "install this"??

Got a partial fix - In Firefox, the Adobe PDF Toolbar gets installed in "Disabled" mode.  To enable, go to "Tools->Add-ons->Extensions", select "Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF" and enable it.
Now, as for the rest of the Acrobat plugins, I'm still trying to find a way to enable them.  Any ideas?

  • Acrobat 9.1 Update - Silent Install - Deploy is not "Silent"

Acrobat 9.1 Update - Silent Install / Deploy is not "Silent" or Quiet
When Installing and/or Deploying the Update for Acrobat Pro/Std 9.0 in Silent mode:
    AcroProStdUpd910_T1T2_incr.msp /q /l adobe91.log
    AcroProStdUpd910_T1T2_incr.msp /qn
I get a "File Transfer" like status window that pop's up.
It is very brief, and all is well.
The problem is we're trying to reach 0% intrusion on the customers that this will be deployed to.
Is there another slash that is missing or does the install process just have this and we'll have to live with it?
I ran the patch in normal mode and you can see the pop-up during the install process in-between:

    Please Advise.
    Thank you.

I know this post is a few months old, but for those that still need the info:
Updating Adobe Acrobat Professional from 9.0.0 to 9.1.2
    1. Download the 2 patches, AcroProStdUpd910_T1T2_incr.msp (this updates to 9.1.0) and AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp (this updates to 9.1.2) and place them in the same folder.
If you are already at 9.1, you don't need the first patch.
    2. Copy the AcroPro.msi file from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Setup Files\guid (I didn't feel like typing out the whole string) to the folder with the patches.  This is where the setup placed this file for my installation of CS4; your location could be in a different spot.
    3. Create your script with the following 2 lines:
    msiexec /p "%installdir%\AcroProStdUpd910_T1T2_incr.msp" /qn /norestart REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus
    msiexec /p "%installdir%\AcrobatUpd912_all_incr.msp" /qn /norestart REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus
Substitute your path to the folder with the patch files for %installdir% above.
Obviously, this procedure is for updating Windows only.  This was only tested on Windows XPSP3 with Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.0.0 as installed as part of CS4 Master Collection.

You won't be able to install your original Acrobat 7 at all, or use your original serial number. The server which used to allow this was switched off.
But assuming you have a compatible system, like Mac OS 5 or Windows XP, licensed users of Acrobat 7 can download a replacement and get a replacement serial number.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended Will Not Install

I have the Adobe Master Collection CS5 installed, but needed to use some Acrobat features which I understood were only available in the Pro Extended version, so am trying now to install Extended onto the PC.
The installation however keeps stopping saying I "already have a more functional product installed" ... Acrobat on this PC is the Pro version, but is not Extended ... is there a way to get it to install without removing the current version and all its settings?

Since you have CS5 master collection installed- it comes with Acrobat 9.3 and Acrobat Pro Extended,
that you are trying to install is version no. 9.0. So when you launch the installer, you get the message that you have
    more recent product already installed.
For installing Acrobat Pro Extended 9.0, you'll have to deactivate and uninstall Acrobat 9.3 and then install Acrobat Pro Extended.

  • I purchased Adobe Acrobat x Pro recently and installed it, I have compatibility issues vision 2013. The adobe pdf converter  plug in stays inactive despite all my efforts to activate it, I need help with this? How can i get the plug in

For MS Visio (any version) only the appropriate version of Acrobat *PRO* provides PDFMaker for Visio.
For Visio 2013 specifically you must have Acrobat XI Pro (updated to at least 11.0.1).
