Acrobat 8.1.6 stuck in "spooling"

I am using Acrobat 8, with updates up to 8.1.6, on Vista 64 bit with SP2 installed. All was fine until mid week, but now I cannot create PDF files. After add in are installed, all documents get  "stuck" in printer spooling. Any ideas what is wrong?

Since the print-to-file apparently works, try printing again without the print-to-file (normal print). I suspect that will hang up the way you have been finding. If so, then use ctrl-alt-del and select the task list. Somewhere in the long list of tasks running in windows should be AcroTray.exe. If it is not there, then go to the Distiller folder and start it. See if that resolves the problem. If so, be sure that AcroTray.exe is in your startup folder.

  • Printer stuck in spooling after first print

    Hello,
I have a new laptop in the office with an HP ColorLaserJet CM2320nf MFP printer connected to our network.
The drivers installed without issue. After every reboot, the first document I choose to print will print fine from any program.
Then any subsequent print from *any* program I try to make will get stuck in 'spooling', and even crash the program I'm in.
I've tried a completely clean install of the drivers and the reinstall produced the exact same results.
Is this a known issue and what are some suggestions to fix?
Running Windows 7 Professional 32 Bit
    Many thanks in advance

When in the dock, right-click the printer icon and choose Auto Quit.

  • Problem with Acrobat print job being stuck in queue

I have Acrobat 7.0 Pro and I do a lot of print to Acrobat PDF 7.0 from web pages. When I go to print from Safari and pick the printer Acrobat PDF 7.0,
the pages will process and bring the PDF up in Acrobat.
However, if I then want to print another page, I have a problem. Many times, the previous print job has a status of printing in the queue even though it is complete.
If I delete the job, the next job will complete.
Something is not completing or deleting completed jobs in my queue.
    Any help would be great.

Thank you for the response. This has always worked for me in the past. I can print a web page to acrobat, then even print another one and the next file (pdf) is created no problem. In the past, the print job has gone away as soon as the file was created.
I will try the permissions fix and see what happens.

    Hi there,
With the page that has opened in Acrobat, do you save
this document before you try to print the next
document. I am thinking that maybe the spooler is
expecting you to do something with the file that has
printed before it releases it from the queue.
I would also try running a Repair Disk Permissions.
This is located in Applications > Utilities > Disk
Utility. This can resolve permissions on files that
may be stopping the spooler from finishing.

  • Paid for, downloaded, installed acrobat xi standard. Stuck at activation!!

I'm quite annoyed how I ended up in this situation. Paid for the program, downloaded it, installed it. Put the serial number in and now only to find out I needed a previous version of acrobat.
I didn't see anything on the purchase page that said that. Also, I would expect at this day and age Adobe should have some sort of finder on your PC to see if you have a previous version BEFORE purchasing it.
Now I am stuck. Can't load pdf's and can't print them either.
Who from Adobe can rectify this for me please?

    Hi Colin,
It seems that you have purchased an upgrade for Acrobat.
If you have owned a prior version of Acrobat only then would you be eligible for this purchase.
If the older version is installed on your computer and you install the upgrade then the installer will recognize the older version and accept the purchased upgrade serial number.
If you do not have the older version installed on your computer then you need to keep the older serial number handy as the installer will try to detect the older version first and if it fails to find, it will prompt you to enter the older as well as the upgrade serial number for activation.

  • Acrobat 9 Page Size Stuck on Automatic

We just got a new PC in the office and have Acrobat 9 installed.  When I go to change the scan defaults or start a custom scan, the Paper Size setting is locked to Automatic.  I can drop down the box, but the only options are "Select One" (which I cannot select) and "Automatic."  When I go to scan a letter page, I end up with 8.5" x 14" (Legal) dimensions.  Does anyone know of a way to fix this so I don't have to crop the page(s) manually every time I scan something?

Try this, it worked for me in Acrobat v.8
    Start an Acrobat scan.
In "Acrobat Scan" window select "Scanner Options"
In "Scanner Options" window select "User interface: Show Scanner's Native Interface"
Click OK on "Scanner Options" window
Click Scan on "Acrobat Scan" window
Next you will be asked to save the PDF file. After this a window should open that gives you an option to select paper size and document type.
I found locations in my HP Printer/Scanner to set paper size but I don't think the information is passed from the printer to Acrobat. I suspect it is an HP problem but they are total dolts about doing anything but pointing the fingure at Adobe.
Hope this works for you. It is very cumbersome but it yields the right results.

  • Acrobat Reader 8 printing takes forever, spools HUGE files

Why is adobe 8 spooling files in the 100's of meg's.
Is there are fix for this issue that I missed I have not been able to locate the information anywhere and this is wreaking havoc with our users. I am half tempted to jump to fox reader.
    Please advise.

Printing is pretty widely regarded as being broken in the latest versions, your best bet would be to use GUI scripting or possibly lpr via a do shell script.

  • D2660 job stuck, print spooler

Am looking for steps that HP techs use in Int. Explorer to get a job unstuck in D2660.  It starts this way:
    1. Start
    2. Run
    3. enter "services.msc"
    4. click on "print spooler"
    5.??? click stop??
    6. ???click start??
    7. ?? click OK??
This may be wrong as I seem to remember having to click on "refresh"???
    Thanks for any help.

Restarting the spooler on the client's PC worked for me.
So you don't need to delete manually from the spooler folder.

  • Mails stuck in spool

I recently upgraded to CFMX7 on Windows 2003 and something
interesting is happening with cfmail. When "Spool mail msgs for
delivery" is checked, no mail gets delivered. It just sits in the
spool. Uncheck the box and the mail goes out.
I'd like to use the spool, but I've got to be able to send
mails, so I have to go with the no spooling for the time being. Is
    anyone familiar with this?
    Thanks

Might want to check your logs to make sure everything is
going well. In certain instances, sub systems (such as the mail
handler) can crash, but the system will still process CFML. The
only way to restore these sub systems is to restart ColdFusion.
I had one of our VB guys write a little app for me that
checks those folders at a preset time. And if it finds files
sititng there it'll pop up a little alert on my screen.

  • Installers for Flash Player and Acrobat Reader not visible/stuck.

I am running a windows 7 64-bit computer. When I run the installer, no installer window appears. I do however see the process in the task manager, and see that the installers have been moved to my C:/../AppData/Local/Temp folder; however, after that point the process seems to stagnate. How do I fix this? Is there some file that the installer requires? There is no error message for me to troubleshoot this on my own. I've restarted my computer multiple times, have everything else updated, and run the most current version of mozilla firefox. Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I would recommend posting this qiery in the Adobe Reader / Adobe Flash Player forum.

  • Stuck at 35% updating acrobat dc

Acrobat DC has been stuck at 35% while downloading an update. I think this happened because I lost internet connection ( I didn't see it was updating and took my laptop with me, thus making it lose internet connection). Is there anyway to pause/restart/ force start the download again?

    Hey revisin,
Could you please let me know what version of OS are you using.
Please connect to the internet and try again to check if there is any error message when there is a stuck at 35%.
Once connected, you might try downloading Acrobat DC from the following link:
Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | DC, XI, X
Then, run the installer file and let me know if it still hangs.
    Hope to hear from you.

  • Printing long web page to Adobe Acrobat (or Primo PDF) fails and hangs at 48%

I'm using Firefox 18.0.1 and was viewing an html web page report that is essentially a large table. When printed, it is 28 pages. I printed to the Adobe PDF driver (I'm using CS6 so this is the latest Acrobat XI) it became stuck at 48% and, after waiting 30 minutes just for grins, I had to kill the browser. I tried again and it hang in the same place. I tried printing to my backup and good old standby, the Primo PDF printer driver and it had the same issue. I then launched IE9 and it printed without any problem so it points to Firefox.
I've worked around the issue, but wanted to get this in the discussion queue in the hope that it can pop on the radar and get fixed.
I am able to reproduce the issue at will, so let me know if there is any testing you need done.
    Thanks!

    Fallard,
No clue, (and sounds goofy to me)...
You might try downloading Printer Setup Repair from:
    http://www.fixamacsoftware.com/software/index.html
    It's shareware, and might help...
    Hope it helps a little!

  • Cannot print to Adobe PDF from InDesign CS4 under Snow Leopard (10.6.2)

    Hello All,
Hopefully the subject line says all. Running SL and CS4, and after manually deleting the "old" Adobe PDF 9.0 driver, I am unable to print to PDF — or select "Save As Adobe PDF" under the Mac OS print dialog. This is insanely frustrating on may levels, as this was once a 3-minute operation and now has stretched into two days of futile searching for a solution.
There is a "tech doc" somewhere out there that offers a "solution". But beware, as it has not worked for me. Once you manually search for and remove the Adobe PDF 9.0 driver, you are supposed to magically be able to select the "Save As Adobe PDF" option. This is not the case for me.
Am trying to print, once again, from InDesign CS4 (NOT via the Export command as that will not allow me to set page size, or print separations). There is no Adobe PDF driver there anymore and there is no option to print PDFs. Of course, I can rest easier with the knowledge that everything is easier now in SL.

For a long time I was printing out of InDesign CS4 to a PS file and Distilling to a PDF, either composite or separated. Then Snow Leopard came along and that workflow seemed no longer available. It seems some well meaning people didn't understand a professional DTP workflow.
I had to work between two Macs to create a project and then make separations.
Eventually I went back to the Adobe InDesign forums and folks insisted that a Adobe PDF 9 printer should be available in my print drivers.
On that suggestion I completely uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and then reinstalled it.
It worked, I had the PDF printer back and can now print to a postscript file and do separations as I always have.
(Another story is that Snow Leopard killed my Epson 2200 printer)
At one stage I did an update of Acrobat 9 and it caused me to lose the Adobe printer again. Going through the procedure again brought it back and this time after a Acrobat 9 update it stuck.
In my opinion somebody screwed up. It's not enough to be able to create PDFs out of Microsoft Word. There are people out here trying to make a living and need to be able to create print separations for some offset printers.

  • Cannot print with ip100

I installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and now I cannot print to my Canon ip100.  I tried reinstalling the canon drivers, but that did not help, furthermore I could not uninstall the canon drivers without forcing the print spooler service to start.  As soon as I uninstall Acrobat, I can print.

When Acrobat is initially installed or updated, to create the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance, the Spooler Service is temporarily stopped and then restarted. But once that occurs, Acrobat itself absolutely never accesses the Spooler Service at all! Even if the Acrobat installer / updater was unsuccessful in restarting the Spooler Service, rebooting your system would restore it (or of course, you could manually restart that service via the Windows System Management Services console.
