Acrobat 8.1 Stops Responding for 90 seconds after launch

Never had this problem with Acrobat 7.x.. recently installed 8.1 and experience the hourglass, seconds after Acrobat reader appears on screen. It shows as "not responding" in Task Manager for about 90 seconds, then returns to operational state.
I've combed over the Preferences numerous times looking for something that might be trying to access nonexistent network on the affected machine. It's on a standalone, highly-secure, workstation that is used to publish content, which is burned to CDs and written to USB memory sticks and transported to the application. No internet, no viruses, etc.
What about version 8.x causes this behavior? Can it be fixed, or is the only solution leaving Acrobat Reader loaded at all times?

The problem has not been fixed....
New computer: Win7 64
i7 processor, 8Gb memory.
Acrobat Professional 9.3.0 behaves exactly the same way as the old version on the old computer. Try to do anything and you get "not responding".
As a previous poster mentioned, when you start Acrobat, plan on doing something else for 5 minutes. This happens on several other computers that I know of with v8 and v9, so I suspect Adobe tech support will conclude it's not a problem with their software.
It seems to go slower when you have more fonts. Has this been confirmed? It's almost as if Acrobat "loads" every font on your computer when opening a document instead of checking the document first for necessary fonts.
Another thing...
You would think by now Adobe would streamline the printing setup pages when creating a pdf. You still have to go through 4 or 5 different windows and click options under options under options.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.09 stops responding for 30 seconds after start

When starting AR 11 (either via it's Icon or via a .pdf document), AR starts normally but after a few seconds the interface freezes and stops responding for around 30 seconds. Logging the start-up with Process Monitor gives the output below (actually two instances, only one is shown). When the second instance times out (I'm guessing that is what's going on), AR11 starts responding again.
The whole problem disappears if the plugin Weblink.api is removed, with the unfortunate side effect that the Tools pane on the right also disapperas (replaced with a spinning Icon but AR11 is otherwise responding well).
The server that AR11 is installed on does not have any Internet access whatsoever. My guess is that AR11 is looking for the host above for some reason and need to time out before it is available for use. This is of course an extremely poor design and we wish to resolve it somehow.. Ideas anyone?

Solution found. By enabling a lockdown feature, we prevented Adobe from trying to muck about getting online. Actually NSA provides recommendations on how to lock down Adobe Reader, google "NSA recommendations for configuring Adobe Reader XI in a Windows Environment". We only used:
    HKLM\Software\Policies\Adobe\<product>\<version>\FeatureLockDown\cCloud
    bDisableADCFileStore                    REG_DWORD               Set to 1

  • ITunes Not Responding for 10+ Minutes After Launch

Whenever I launch iTunes on my PowerBook G4, it takes over ten minutes to launch, during which time it is frozen (i.e., beach ball, shows as "Not Responding" in the Activity Monitor). This happens regardless of whether I connect to my local music library or my external drive library. The problem started a month or two ago, although I can't recall exactly when.
Once I let iTunes do whatever it's trying to do for the ten minutes or so, it's fine. It's just frustrating having to wait ten minutes every time I open iTunes, and having to deal with the CPU cranked at 100%.
    Any ideas?
    - Keith
P.S. I tried turning off Genius, and that did not do the trick.

Let's do a test to see just what iTunes is doing (hopefully).
Open Activity Monitor (Applicatons/Utilities) and select 'All Processes, Hierarchically' from the menu at the top right.
Click on the '% CPU' heading so that it turns blue. If the little triangle is pointing down, good. If not, click it again.
    Open iTunes.
Find whatever goes to the top of the list. It will most likely be using at least 80% of your CPU.
    What is it called?
With whatever is at the top of the list selected, click the Inspect icon.
    Click the Statistics tab.
Take a screenshot of the window (Shift-Command-4 followed by the spacebar, then click on the window). You'll refer to this later.
Now, tell me what it says under the following:
    Parent Process
    Process Group
    User
    Recent Hangs
    % CPU
    CPU Time
    Faults
    Threads
As well as anything else you think I should know.
Also, look at the iTunes process. Is there a triangle next to it? If so, is the process using a lot of % CPU inside it? What's inside the iTunes process (indented, under it)?
We'll just use this test to learn more about what's going on when you open iTunes.

  • Firefox 4 appears to be causing my graphics card to stop responding for no reason, since upgrading to 4.0.

I'm not sure if its a common occurance for other users, but since the 'hardware accelerated support' with Firefox 4 release, firefox seems to regularly cause my graphics card (Nvidea GT320M) on my laptop to 'stop responding' for a few seconds every so often, usually when I have flash websites such as youtube open. It isn't a huge deal since it restarts working again after a few seconds of a black screen, but its annoying non-the-less.
An example of such: earlier today i started up firefox 4, and when it was loading the tabs, the screen turned black, and when the screen came back on, pop up in the windows task bar told me that the graphics card had stoped responding but successfully recovered. Not the first time, but becoming a more regular occurrence.

You seem to be running older versions of Flash and Java plugins. I'd recommend you update to the latest versions first of all to see whether the problem persists or not.
The easiest way to check is to go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page.
If that fails to solve the problem, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it works correctly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • Firefox stops responding for 15s when starting downloads.

Every time I start a new download, Firefox will stop responding for around 15 seconds. During this time, nothing happens, my CPU usage spikes, and many downloads will subsequently fail if they do not support a resume feature. This is extremely frustrating. I have tried reinstalling, disabling add-ons, and clearing my download history daily, all to no avail. I'm tempted to switch back to Firefox 3.x. I know this doesn't apply here, but Nightly does the same thing.
I've got a C2D @ 3.16, 8 GB DDR2 1066, and a WD VelociRaptor 300 GB HDD as my primary (where files are saved temporarily), so I know it's not the system that's struggling.

I managed to solve this problem as my computer has been giving me problems lately and completely froze on me the other day thanks to Game Booster Beta 3 and completely screwed with Windows 7 to the point I almost had to reinstall again, but I managed to fix all my problems and if you would just follow my link here over to my post on Seven Forums then it would be easier then explaining it again.
http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/180714-windows-7-professional-64-bit-logs-but-almost-frozen-3.html#post1550277 The reason for this is if you shut down your computer while running Firefox, it's possible you corrupted your User Profile for FF and if you follow my instructions you can repair it instead of making a new, so just follow the link, read my post and if you have anymore problems just message me on Seven Forums. • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Stops Responding

I work in IT as desktop support for a city. We have a user that is always calling and saying that she cannot open PDF files. What happens is that Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 stops responding and you must go into Task Manager and kill Acrobat.exe. We've taught the user how to do this, because she's been having the issue for apparently 2-3 years.
    Here's the thing...
She is the ONLY user in the city (of about 1000 users) that has this issue. She first had Adobe Acrobat Pro 8, so we upgraded her to 9, we have created a new profile on her machine, we have uninstalled and reinstalled, we've wiped her hard drive and started over, and we've given her 2 new computers. Nothing has worked! We just gave her a brand new computer with everything up to date yesterday. This morning she called after about 3 hours of using it saying she's having the same issue.
Considering everything we've done, and that nobody else has this issue, we believe she is causing this issue. But we don't know how. We have never been able to replicate the problem ourselves. This afternoon we are sending a tech to sit with her to watch her and hopefully see if she is doing something that could cause this.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
    -Logan T.

She's a buyer for the city and recieves a lot of PDFs through e-mail. I think that's where most of her PDFs are opened from (Outlook 2007). I'm not sure how many she creates herself. I'm honestly wondering if she even needs Adobe Acrobat or if Adobe Reader would just be fine (she claims she needs it). That will be something the tech can look at today while he is there.

  • Thunderbolt stop working for some seconds

I have a Macbook PRO Retina 15'' Early 2013 and I have the problem that one of the two thunderbolt stop working for same seconds.
I often use both ports: one for ethernet and the other for external monitor through DVI.
If I am using the ethernet in the problematic port, until a random time (between 10 minutes or 8 hours) my mac disconnects from the network. I have to pull out and in the adapter to restart the connection.
If I am using the DVI adapter, sometime the monitor is seen as disconnected and after 2-3 seconds it is again reconnected.
Can be an hardware problem or only software?
    Thanks

    Yes.
Have been added a lot of different other problems: not respond after stop, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth not working or not usable, usb disconnections, kernel panic, sometime is impossible to reboot...
The Apple support has decided to change the mainboard.
I am disappointed on how Apple is managing my problem, because they have told me wrong procedures. They have not proposed to me anything to apologize for the wrong information given... I have ever thought that the customer policy for Apple is different from other company and I was very excited to buy my first macbook.
I have bought a macbook that costs over 2200€ and the only solution is to wait at least 5 working days for repair: I need for work, not for fun...
My old Dell costs less that 1200€ and offers, with the same cost of an Apple care, a repair service in 24 hours and accidental damage assurance.
I hope they can restore the good opinion that I have build in my brain and destroyed in 3 days...

  • Illustrator 25% off the time "program not responding" for 35 seconds when network is active

    Hi
My Client have 4 computers, all win7, running cs 5 or 6, the newest the cloudbased version.
The problem has been sinc upgrading from cs3.
"Program not responding" for 35 seconds, before loading the file on 1/4 of time.
It is not on specific files, and no patton.
it does'nt matter if the files are on network or saved local on Harddrive.
    the sice does'nt matter.
Only switching of nic and wifi stops the problem.
I did try downloading other files (not made by my client), from the net, they do not trigger the problem.
What else then the Files can bee the problem? can anyone test my files to see what is wrong?
    BG Allan Tjepp

I have a very similar problem with my CS6 Ai on our company network. I sometimes use Illustrator for image heavy documents less than 10 pages. These have a lot of placed images.
It will freeze, say "not responding" and curser switches to blue spinner. Then about 15 sec later it unfreezes and I can work for another 60 sec or so, then repeat freeze, blue spinner, etc. Very annoying. When i unplug the network LAN cable the problem goes away and I sail along. I have tried relocating the Ai file to my desktop (not sure about the images).
Waiting on any feedback or help, our IS guys are getting stumped. I could switch to InDesign for this work but not my preference.

  • Firefox 15.1 stops responding for no apparent reason!

As the title says, Firefox 15.1 stops responding for no apparent reason!
I just did a re-format of my system disk and I re-installed Vista 64-bit on it. I have obviously re-installed everything from Windows updates to chipset, graphics and sound drivers. I also pulled down the latest and greatest version of Firefox which at the time is 15.1. So installed that too.
Every now and then Firefox just stops responding for no apparent reason. It looks like it is processing the request (after clicking a link etc.) but it then it's just a silence... nothing happens!
It doesn't even say it can't load the page and Windows doesn't even say that it has stopped responding. Not even after I click like crazy on the Firefox interface like different buttons and tabs and on the web page... not even then does it say "not responding" in the title bar of the window, which is usually the case when you deal with programs that are not responding immediately (you get that dialog that asks you if you would like to close the program or search for solutions online). Just nothing!... it's only quite and does nothing....
At the same time, all other programs are working flawlessly, such as the Explorer (Windows Explorer), or even Internet Explorer. And Internet connection is not lost!
I have no add-ons or extensions installed whatsoever. I just installed Firefox! I haven't even had the time to install Java yet. All I have is Adobe Flash player. That's the only extra. Otherwise it's in its' original form, default settings, etc, etc, etc.
Why is it acting up like this?...
I'm surprised that there even is such a thing as Firefox 15. This one came at the end of August, correct?
I have been on Firefox 14.x something before I re-installed Vista. For a good reason so! This is why I hate the new update model of Firefox and I don't jump on the next train (version) unless it's safe and I'm having compatibility issues with the one I use at the moment. This is why my first step after installing Firefox always is to disable automatic updates! I hate it when the software vendors are pushing out their latest software versions forcefully.
Frankly, I think this new Firefox version of yours is crap. It's not properly tested and it doesn't belong in the official release channel. This is more like a nightly build or something. It probably has some memory leak, despite the promises made by Firefox engineers that it will not have memory leaks and that it would be the fastest version of Firefox ever. I don't really need a faster browsing, I need a stable browser for reliable browsing. The speed of this Firefox version is close to ZERO! When it's not responding at all...
I have been a fan of Firefox since 0.8. I will be probably ditching this latest version and going back to an older version like 13 or 14 that's more closer to the reality and not in this fantasy world of fastest, greatest, latest, version this, version that, latest features. I just want a browser that works man!... I'm getting tired of Firefox. I may even ditch it altogether in favor of.... I don't know.... Safari?... Chrome?.... I might even go back to Internet Explorer after like 12 years of absence.

please try to uninstall the adobe flash plugin from the windows control panel. afterwards manually delete any leftover files in ''C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash'' and download & install the plugin again (uncheck the option to install the bundled security software): www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

    Hi,
You can try to right-click on the game > '''Settings''', click the lower left icon and deselect '''Enable hardware acceleration''' and check. The [http://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer Adobe Flash forum] would also be helpful.

  • Firefox stops responding for about 30 seconds after hitting Enter on any website's search bar, even the built in Google search or when signing into Facebook.

As the title says, I run Firefox Beta 6 and just reinstalled Windows 7 Professional on my system due to seriously messed up Windows update, and when I downloaded and installed Firefox, I noticed every time I searched using the Google search next to the URL bar, FF would freeze for about 30 seconds to a minute, with nothing running in the background and no other programs running. I also disabled all Add-Ons and it still continues to act up, so that leads me to believe it's a FF issue, but even on every other website when using the search bar as soon as I hit enter, it locks up and stops responding then goes back to normal about 30 secs later, or if I sign into Facebook it does the same, and even when I had the FF 5 Beta before I had to reinstall I never had a problem.
