Acrobat 8 and Dual-Boot computer

Scenario: I have my home computer set up to dual-boot both Windows XP and Windows Vista. I have purchased the full version of Acrobat 8. I have already installed Acrobat on the Vista installation, and would now like to install it on the XP installation as well.
Language of EULA: EULA for Acrobat 8 defines "computer" as "a computer device that accepts information in digital or similar form and manipulates it for a specific result based on a sequence of instructions."
The EULA for Acrobat 8 further provides in Section 2.4 that "the primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed ("Primary User") may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer or a Computer located at his or her home, provided that the Software on the portable or home Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer."
My Interpretation of the EULA: I think I am permitted to install and use Acrobat 8 on both Windows installations.
First, I think my computer is one "Computer" for purposes of the EULA. I don't see any differentiation between different operating system installations on one physical machine.
Second, even if each operating system installation would be considered to be a separate "Computer" under the EULA, I am the "Primary User" of the "primary Computer" and the second "Computer" is located at my home. It is impossible for me to use both "Computers" at the same time, therefore I will never be able to use Acrobat 8 on both "Computers" at the same time.
My question: Is my analysis correct? Or am I stretching the language of the EULA beyond its limits?

I am dual booting Windows 7 and XP ... already have CS4 Design Premium installed on Win7 (submitting some testing results to Microsoft so good for Adobe) ... would like to install on the XP boot as well. Same situation and logic as above. Will the CS4 license let me do this?
Note I would like to keep my portable computer option open for my laptop ... in NO CASE would the instances be used simultaneously ... it's just me, really!

Dual boot computer restarts by itself shortly after it has been shut down or put into sleep mode

Hello,
I have Toshiba Equium L40-14I (old) and dual boot Vista and Linux.
A few days ago I noticed that while in a Linux operating system and when I put it to sleep (suspend) it would do so, but then immediately come alive again. The same thing happens with the shut down option. In Windows Vista it is the same. It does shut down, but in a few seconds restarts again and shows the normal options of choosing which operating system I want to boot. The computer only stays shut if I pull the power cord (it has no functioning battery) or it I forcefully shut it by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
So far I tried this:
- BIOS: 1. Changed to default factory settings. 2. Disabled wake-up on LAN and disabled wake up on keyboard.
- Device Manager, Network adapters, NIC, Properties, Power management: unticked the option that allows the adapter to wake the computer
- Device Manager: all drivers seem to be ok
- Virus scan: although this is probably not the issue as it happens independently of which operating system I am using. I have not installed any strange programs.
- I started from the Safe mode and then shut down. Same thing happened: it restarted automatically after a few seconds.
- Disabled automatic restart on system failure. It didn't help.
English is not my first language, sorry for the perhaps unclear way of describing this issue. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

You have done just about everything I can think of. You didn't mention doing a System Restore. If you haven't done one or even if you have, do a System Restore back to at least sometime before this started happening. If the first one doesn't work, try a different restore point and do it again. If that doesn't work, you need to consider a full HDD recovery to out-of-box condition which procedure is fully covered in your User's Guide. I'm sorry I don't have a link for it but yours is not a U.S. machine and this site is for U.S. machines. It appears to be a U.K. model with support covered by THIS site.
BTW, I wish the native Americans who post on here did as well as you have so you have to make no excuses for your English.

If you want to get rid of Windows and the BC partition use the Boot Camp assistant program to remove the Win/BC partition. Don't do it manually with Disk Utility Use the BC A program.

[SOLVED] RTC and dual booting with Windows 8/8.1

I am planning ahead of installing Arch on a windows 8.1 laptop, and need to understand whether or not the known Windows registry hack to get windows to use UTC for the RTC is still valid for Windows 8/8.1? I have been searching via google and the usual sources of information, but it is not clear to me if there are problems doing this, specifically if arch is dual booted with Windows 8/8.1 rather than older versions of the MS OS. Certainly I have used the technique without any problem in the past when dual booting Windows XP with Arch on several different machines.
Does anyone have personal experience with doing this on a Windows 8 or 8.1 machine and can report here on whether it works successfully or not?

Since there were no replies at this point I thought I would just go ahead and implement the registry hack on the Windows 8.1 O/S in the laptop and see if Windows behaves. It appears to be OK, with the displayed time being correct after reboot, and time synchronisation remaining fine with no problems seen in the displayed time, although I won't be able to read the RTC directly until I have completed the Arch install in the coming week or two. I now don't foresee any issues with the time synchronisation between booting Arch and Windows 8.1 so I will mark this as solved.
Since the RTC is now in UTC then normal clock config in Arch using chrony should perform normally once the install is done and the new system set up.

Want to keep OS 9.2, upgrade to 10.4 and Dual-Boot

I have a lime iMac with OS 9.2 installed. I have a Tiger install DVD. I booted from the CD and it only allows me the Erase and Install Option or the Archive and Install. It states in the Archive and Install option that I will not be able to boot from the old system folder.
I need to dual-boot to use the Audio software still on the iMac. I need Tiger for other applications. How do I do this? I thought it was possible to have both installed and working. I am cool with holding option on boot or using the Startup Disk in System Preferences, but I want to make sure Tiger won't destroy my OS 9 bootability (if that's a word).

So, I looked. It does have HFS+. I also found that someone install 10.0.3 on this machine way back when. I can boot between both now. My question, will Tiger install over 10.0.3 and keep the dual-boot functionality of so I can go between 10.4 and 9. My guess it will. Any know for sure?

Here is the link required for all Windows 7 Drivers for your machine , Once you have installed Windows 7 goto the link and download all drivers that are not installed via Device manager . If you make a list of drivers not installed and then refer to the drivers page and take all the drivers you require .

S430 mSATA SSD and Dual Boot

Yesterday my Lenovo Thinkpad S430 arrived, I have some questions concerning dual booting Linux and Win 8 from the mSATA. I have a Crucial m4 128Gb with the current firmware 07MH which I want to want to install instead of the 16Gb mSATA SSD which is currently used for caching.
For that I want to do a clean Win 8 install (I got the ISO and a valid serial) and presumably an current Ubuntu. Unfortunately I have no experience with UEFI and Secure Boot and that stuff. Is there anything I need to do, are there any problems with what I want to do?
The current UEFI BIOS on my S430 is the GAET71WW (2.07), should I upgrade it to the current 2.54?
Is there anything else I should know?

If I'm reading Hemanth Kumar's post correctly, 16GB is the largest mSATA drive provided by and supported by Lenovo for use as a cache.
I'd expect that you can use most any capacity mSATA drive in that slot for a primary OS drive. It is frequently done with Lenovo laptops to install a large mSATA SSD - as I did in my T420, 256GB - and keep the HDD as a data drive.
That said, I don't have specific experience with your machine. It would be great if someone with specific experience would join the conversation. Otherwise, I can only say it's probably OK.

(I use cylinder number to partition hard disk. Why?
When I use % and insert 1% to partition 2 then
fdisk makes start cylinder 7155.
It overlays with partition 1's end cylinder number.
So fdisk save(menu no 4) fails...

After rebooting, bizarre Bad PBR sig, and my system dies...
So I boots my PC with Windows(or Dos) booting diskette.

In Solaris x86 format fdisk menu,
if I've allocated remaining disk space all to Solaris(without x86 boot),
then Solaris also makes x86 boot partition(size 10MB), reboots well.
But install fails due to not enough free disk space
when install begins slicing Solaris partition.
error log says

BAD PBR SIG message comes from your BIOS - no partition boot record.
Sorry but it's not clear what else is going on - might be worth running a ODS based fdisk to clear the disk before installing Solaris?

SSD, HDD and Dual Booting

I'm new to the whole SSD thing and wanted to know what I should partition my install of Linux along with Windows and what I should/could move to the HDD to reduce some wear and tear on the SSD. It would be nice to also hear what others may have done.

If new the the SSD thing means that you have an SSD that isn't from four of five years ago, you have nothing to worry about. All that crap that still floats around the internet about needing to reduce writes to your SSD are true, but only if you use one of the first generation SSDs (like when they wre new the the market). With wear leveling that actually works and improved garbage collection, today's SSDs should last a long time. I have seen reports of people trying to wear drives out by just writing them to death, and the controller goes out before the flash gets worn out. So at this point, all that stuff is probably just FUD.
Partitioning is a very personal thing. No one else can tell you what the "best" layout would be (except me... just use a single btrfs and subvolumes!). But in terns of a combined SSD/HDD situation, you should remember that although you want to store you media on the bigger rotational, putting your entire /home on the HDD is probably not the best idea. There are all kinds of configuration files and whatnot in your $HOME that can seriously beneift from the super fast read speeds and low latency of a SSD.

Dual boot with lion and mavericks?

I want to updgrade to mavericks as well as keeping lion to run my old soundcard { no new drivers will be made } so, I'm thinking of using my external hard drive to try and install mavericks onto and Dual boot my MBP.
is this possible?

Arch And Windows 7 Dual Boot On Separate HDD

Hi everyone.
Firstly, a big thank you to everyone for helping me out in my first thread regarding choice of partitions and filesystems.
I went on to install Arch today on my second HDD (160GB). My first HDD has Windows 7 installed on it. (The BIOS shows that the HDD with Win 7 installed is HDD1.)
Arch showed the HDDs as sda and sdb. I was installing on sdb and created my partitions accordingly.
sdb1 --> root (15GB)
sdb2 --> swap (1GB)
sdb3 --> var (10GB)
sdb4 --> home (remaining space)
I had to flag sdb1 as Bootable.
Then I was asked about mountpoints and something about selecting by dev or uuid. I didn't quite understand but selected dev. Then formatted with ext4. Did not add any parameters.
Before proceeding they gave a warning about no /boot partition but I continued anyway.
It was an FTP install and went pretty smoothly. I configured everything exactly as I had read in the guides online and Wiki. GRUB said it configured successfully (I did not make any chnges to it). I had put GRUB on sdb and not on any partition.
As I rebooted, my system did not show the GRUB but went straight on to Windows 7. I went into BIOS and changed my first drive to the 160GB Seagate where I had installed Arch and rebooted. This time GRUB came up without any option to boot Windows 7. When I selected Arch it gave an error and did not boot.
So I'm back on Windows 7 and need help. I'm a noob and did not much understand the solution that I saw on another thread. Since I intend to have the 2 OSs on separate drives and dual boot, what should I do?
Will be very grateful for any help.

I installed grub on the second hdd and configured the bios so this drive comes first in the boot sequence and as pyther pointed out above the drive where grub is loaded from becomes hd0.

I would like to dual boot Solaris 9 and Solaris 10 on a SCSI hard disk. Currenlty that 16gb hard disk has Solaris 9 installed on it.
What are the steps needed to install Solaris 10 and dual boot them?

Flash 9 destroys dual boot capability

I use a dual-boot computer, with one partition for Linux (Debian) and one for Windows XP. I can't use Flash on Linux as Adobe has never ported it to that platform. So I put my Flash on the Windows partition. Unfortunately, while I have no trouble with Flash 8 on the Windows partition, when I attempt to open Flash 9 on it it crashes the entire system.
My husband found an article in the Winter 2009-2010 issue of 2600, the Hacker Quarterly magazine; it seems that in CS3, which Flash 9 is part of, Adobe has written its copy protection code in such a way as to cause a dual-boot machine to become unbootable after one uses Adobe software. I don't understand all the technical issues, but as the article states, "even though you have paid Adobe real money for their software, they will still potentially ruin your dual-boot system."
I realize Adobe doesn't consider Linux users numerous enough to accommodate, but by taking my money for their product, the company has an obligation to give me value in return. The value I expect is to be able to use the software I paid for - it's not up to Adobe to decide which OS I should use. At least they could warn people that you can't use CS3 (and probably not CS4) on a dual-boot system. I will now start learning to use Inkscape immediately.

I would get another harddrive and put Linux on one and windows on the other then get a hardware switch to switch between them it's much more stable.

Ahh. You're right that that'd be very awkward then.
I'm starting a computing degree so wanted to have the best of both worlds (I probably should have a better grasp of computers too).
So I don't know for certain how much I'll need Windows, but it'll be convenient to have incase there's software that does't run on OS X.
So my options are probably to return for larger SSD and get windows or try and dual boot this machine with some form of Linux.
