Acrobat 8 and Mozilla Thunderbird

I am a print guy, not a web guy and I am having some issues with a form I am making that I want to do some stuff with.
We have a pdf form we want to make available on our website. I guess my question is whether the form will open using the pdf plug-in to the customer's web browser and simply be submitted to our estimator (email address) via the web browser, or whether the customer will have to download the form and then submit via traditional email? If it is downloaded and sent via traditional email, I like the idea of the submit button built in to the form, so it saves a completed version of the form and attaches itself to an email sent to our estimator via the customer's default email program - trouble is, I can't get the button to work right.
Some of the problems I am having are: a) the button saves the file over itself, forcing you to manually blank out the form (which would be difficult to explain how to do to a customer) before filling it out for a new request instead of leaving a blank version of itself around as a blank template. b) the button won't integrate itself with the default email application, so it doesn't get emailed (unless you're aware enough of the problem and save it out as a separate file name and attach to an email manually).
I hear Acrobat 9 resolves the problems I am having with this Acrobat 8 form, but I also hear that for the customer to use the v9 form, they must first upgrade to 9 as well (either the full version or the reader will work), which isn't the case with the v8 form, which works on any version of Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
The submit button may be a dead idea if it doesn't work with all default email applications (I think I read that Mozilla apps aren't supported). It may also be a dead idea if the form is integrated with the pdf plug-in of the web browser, which may submit itself via email through html - I don't know enough about web to know how easy/complicated this is to do. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • Icloud Ical Iphone and Mozilla Thunderbird Lightning Notifications:

I would like to ask a question about Icloud and Mozilla Thunderbird Notifications:
I Have setup Icloud calendars which are using the CALDAV protocol in Mozilla Thunderbird. It is currently working in the testing builds of Mozilla Thunderbird Lightning Calendar Extension.
    My Question is,
When I have a calendar event that is created on either the iphone or mozilla lightning, the problem is that it is notified twice on mozilla lightning and then it is notified on the calendar on the iphone as well. They are notified at the same time great!!! two places at once.. thats cool... but...
Can I get it notify on both devices, and then dismiss it on the iphone, which is then dismissed automatically on mozilla lightning because i dismissed the notification event on the iphone and if i do the same thing on the computer..
I reported to Mozilla as being a bug.. and they couldn't help me resolve the problem because they need more info from apple...
Is there a way for this to be fixed with more information from apple..

  • Clipboard and Mozilla Thunderbird

I can't create a Transrerable object, using text/html, that Thunderbird composer can read. If I copy somethng from the Thunderbird composer, run the following lines
    Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
    Clipboard cb = tk.getSystemClipboard();
    cb.setContents(cb.getContents(null), null);
and tries to past it back in the composer, nothing happens. (Paste whithout formatting, however, works). It's no problem to paste to Word, Excell och Outlook.

For a while I was using Entourage but decided to move
to Mozilla Thunderbird and it's been ok but now I
want to move all my email address's and all the
folders where I store email back to Entourage.
Someone was kind enough to inform me on how to get
them from Entourage to T'Bird but now the question is
how to get them back as I had deleted them in
Entourage once I had them in T-Bird and over time
more have been created. Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
Also, if Entourage won't automatically import the messages, there is probably an Export option on Thunderbird. I am afraid a Microsoft forum might not be much help and you may have to start with a Thunderbird forum first.

did you search the Mozilla forum for this issue? I don't think that the JDeveloper 11 forum is the right place to post this problem if it is an Adobe/Mozilla issue

  • Mozilla Thunderbird and Time Machine

I can't find anything else about it in here, but my question is-----------Does Time Machine work with Mozilla Thunderbird?  I've been using it for about three months now, and today I looked in my Time Machine and I can't see where it's backing up my emails.  I also have Mac Mail enabled, so I can get them there if I have to, but I prefer using T-Bird.  I checked in the TM preferences, and there is nothing on the excluded list, so it's not that.

Thanks.  After playing around with it for a bit, I can see that searching for anything is a real krap shoot in T-Bird.  There's no way I can see to easily find much of anything unless you have the specific title or content of a message, looking for old messages.  I was using Mail before, but I had a problem with it that I was unable to resolve---about every 3 months or so everything in my Inbox and Sent folder more than 3 or 4 days old would simply vanish.  I was unable to just do a rebuild---it had no effect.  So I would go into TM and just restore it from a day or two before it happened and then put the restored items back into the correct folders.  It was just that after this happened 3 or 4 times I got tired of fooling around with it and started using T-Bird.
Looks like now I need to try Mac Mail again or just give up and revert to using my email accounts as webmail.  I had posted another thread about the Mail problem but no one in here was able to figure it out either.

  • Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox

    Hey guys,
I use Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox but cannot sync any of my settings with them unless I have Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook or Windows Mail.
I choose to use Firefox because it is safer and easier to use than Internet Explorer and Thunderbird because it is hugely better than Windows Mail.
What I want to ask is if you guys could please add syncing support between the iPhone and my laptop for these two great products, I am sure I am not the only one out there using these.

Suggestions to Apple are best submitted via their feedback pages:

  • Really Close to dumping Mozilla Thunderbird. The slowness is just not worth the hassle and the support sucks.

I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for many years. It has always been a good system. Now, I get so when I hit delete, it takes a minute or two to delete the e-mail. I have tried to follow all the instructions on the help system and have turned off Mcafee each time I try to read my mail.
I am not a expert in computers but can usually follow directions fairly well. The fact that Mazilla's help system rely on asking questions of a group does not make it any easier to fix these issues. I see the same questions being asked by multiple people without clear answers to why this is happening.
Unfortunately, if this issue is not resolved shortly, I am going to have to dump Mozilla for another system..

Saying The support sucks is not exactly being polite towards those whom you expect some free help. I prefer to think that you are just frustrated and the offensive remark was unintentional.
It would be useful if you could provide some information about your situation, system etc
You have McAfee and say you ''turn it off'' when reading emails, you do not need to turn it off entirely, just stop it scanning emails. This will mean you do not have to keep switching it on and off.
Here are the instructions for doing this.
    * https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#McAfee
Please provide the following information, so that it is possible to get an understanding of your situation and setup:
    * What OS do you use?
    * What version of Thunderbird?
    * Is this an IMAP or POP mail account which has the issue?
    * If IMAP- is it a gmail account?
    * Do you have one or more mail accounts?
    * How frequently do you compact your folders?
    * When did last empty and compact your Deleted folder?
    * Do you have many folders?
    re: the Inbox
    * Is this folder used as an Inbox for new incoming mail with only a few emails in it or is it used to store a load of emails?
    * Have you set up Archive Options to archive by month and retain folder structure?
    * Do you Archive emails older than eg: a month, two months?
Please answer the above queries, so the forum understands your current situation.

  • Conflict between Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader and how I fixed it

For the past 5 years, I have owned Adobe Acrobat version 9, and recently installed Adobe Reader as well (version 10.7). I was previously able to set up Firefox to use Acrobat to display PDF files in the browser without downloading them, but I recently noticed that this was no longer the case. Instead, every PDF file I tried to view was being downloaded instead. I came here to find a solution, and discovered that many other people are having similar problems. I followed the instructions given here (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/view-pdf-files-firefox-without-downloading-them), but found that they were actually UNhelpful. They tell you to turn off the Firefox PDF viewer by editing about:config to disable the file pdfs.js, which is the native Firefox PDF viewer-- but that will cause the PDF file type to disappear from the Tools/Options dialog, so you can't assign it to another program (whether Adobe or anything else). This makes it impossible to assign the Adobe plugin to open PDF files. I did figure out a solution on my own, and wanted to post it here to help other users with the same problem.
I ultimately learned, through trial and error and a lot of research both here and on Adobe's website, that the root cause of my problem was a conflict in Firefox between Acrobat and Reader. I was able to solve it by upgrading Acrobat, getting rid of Reader and enabling the Firefox PDF viewer so that I could assign the PDF file type to the Acrobat plugin within Firefox. Here are the details of my problem and how I solved it:
    1. Acrobat and Reader conflict with each other in Firefox, but this isn't totally Firefox's fault. It's mostly Adobe's fault, and they pretty much admit it. Specifically, they say that Acrobat and Reader can't coexist on the same machine unless both are version 10 or higher. They tell you to upgrade to solve the problem--but I can't afford to pay for a new version of Acrobat. If you have to keep Acrobat 9.x, Adobe says the lowest version of Reader that will work with it is Reader 11. I couldn't upgrade to this because I have Vista, and Adobe hasn't issued Reader 11 for Vista (and doesn't plan to). I did cheat and download the Win 7 version of Reader 11, but it didn't help.
    2. If you have both Acrobat and Reader, you can choose a setting in Reader to make it the default PDF handler--but Firefox ignores this information and defaults to Acrobat no matter what. (This is the part we can blame Firefox for.) If you have a version of Acrobat which is below 9.5.5, Firefox actually blocks it as a security risk, so the plugin won't work at all, regardless of version number. That's why PDFs are being downloaded through your standalone program instead of being displayed in the browser. If you want to view PDFs in Firefox and keep Acrobat on your computer, you MUST upgrade Acrobat to version 9.5.5 or above.
    3. Unless you can upgrade Acrobat to at least 10.x, GET RID OF READER. As long as you can access Acrobat 9.5.5, it will work fine in Firefox and there's no need for Reader. I never used to have Reader myself, only Acrobat, but it must have been downloaded automatically when Acrobat was blocked by Firefox (which I didn't even realize).
    4. IF YOU NEED TO UPGRADE ACROBAT 9.X TO 9.5.5, YOUR LAST CHANCE IS TODAY--6/26/13. Adobe has announced that today is the "end of life" for the Acrobat 9.x platform, and all support and upgrades will cease after today.
When I searched for updates by going to Adobe's website, it told me there were none available--but when I checked for them FROM THE ACROBAT PROGRAM ITSELF (Help/Check for updates), I was offered a 300 MB upgrade that took me all the way from version 9.0 to 9.5.5 in one step. (It did take a very long time to download and install.)
    5. Once you have Acrobat 9.5.5, this is how to enable it in Firefox:
    a. INSIDE ACROBAT, set your preference for "Internet" to "view PDF files in browser." Close Acrobat. Close Firefox if it's already open.
    b. Reopen Firefox. Check Tools/Add-Ons/Plugins to make sure the Acrobat plugin is there. Enable it if disabled. Close Firefox.
If the plugin isn't there at all, repair your Acrobat installation through Control Panel. Then return to Firefox and enable it. Close Firefox.
    c. Reopen Firefox again. Go to Tools/Options and check the list of file types. For the names that contain "Adobe" and "Acrobat," Acrobat should be set as the default program to open them. Select it from the drop-down list if it's not. Continue to scroll through the alphabetical list--you should see another entry called Portable Document Format. If it's there, the default will be "preview in Firefox." You should be able to change this to "Acrobat (in Firefox)" using the drop-down menu. Do NOT pick the option that says "Acrobat"--this is the standalone program and will cause your PDFs to be downloaded.
If you don't see "Acrobat (in Firefox)" as an option, this means your plugin is not working. Go back and fix it using the instructions above (including repair of Acrobat if necessary).
    d. If you don't see a file type for "Portable Document Format" at all, that means the Firefox PDF viewer is disabled. You must enable it by editing the about:config file. To see it, type about:config in the Firefox address bar. You will get a warning message--just click OK and keep going.
This file is a long list of statements in alphabetical order. LOOK FOR A STATEMENT THAT SAYS "pdfjs.disabled" with a Boolean value of "true." Select this statement and right-click. A context menu will offer you choices including "Toggle." Select that one, which will change the Boolean value to "false." Exit about:config. Close Firefox.
    e. Now return to Tools/Options, scroll through the list of file types, and you should see "Portable Document Format." Select "Acrobat (in Firefox)" as in the instructions above. Close Firefox.
    f. The first time you try to open a PDF file in Firefox, you may get a dialog box which offers you choices of how to open the file. The first will be Acrobat, but DON'T CHOOSE THAT--it will cause your PDF to download. Instead, go to the choice that says "Open as application/pdf." You don't need to change the program that opens this file type, because your settings are already correct. Your PDF should open in the browser, with the full-featured Acrobat menu (including the option of editing or saving the file).
I hope other users can benefit from the truly painful experience I had figuring all of this out. Good luck.

  • How can I use LDAP searching from OSX Lion Server to Mozilla Thunderbird?

How can I use LDAP searching from OSX Lion Server to Mozilla Thunderbird?  We have a super awesome contacts server that works great for our Mac users.  About 30% of our company are on PCs, and I would like to use the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client for them.  I see that in Thunderbird I can set up LDAP searching, and would like to have this feature point to our contacts server.  I've tried several different settings, and looked all over the web, but could not find the proper way to configure this.  Does anyone know if this can be done, or if not, would have a better suggestion?  Thank you for your time!!

try double clicking keychain acces should launch and ask if you want to install login, system, System roots
A dialog box will launch asking where to install the cert since your configuring a vpn I would put the certificate it in system.

  • Is there any other solution for Adobe Flash plugin crashing than the posted one about updating Flash and Mozilla? I cannot open any PDF files online and updated both Mozilla and Flash player to most recent with no change in the crashing.

I was able to open PDFs online until version 8. Since upgrading to version 9 and now 10, I have crashes every time I try to open a PDF online and can see the form briefly for about two seconds before the plugin crashes. I followed instructions on the solution to update Adobe Flash and Mozilla, and they are both to the most recent version and it still crashes every time, no dent in the symptoms with the upgrades. I tried also downgrading to version 3, and it sill crashes. Although in some cases I can get around by saving the PDFs for reading them through Acrobat on my PC, it is a hassle as I do not want to save everything to my drive just to see what it is, plus sometimes forms are generated on a click and I cannot see these forms at all.
I had to migrate to Chrome as I needed the PDFs and could not wait any longer - any suggestions to make Mozilla work again would be appreciated.

Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode] after enabling only the PDF plugin in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons''' > '''Plugins'''. • Form will not open with adobe reader when using chrome and mozilla

The form opens fine in internet explorer, but when opened with chrome and mozilla it says that parts of the document could not be displayed and the 'submit form' and 'print' functions do not work? how do I get it so that the forms open with adobe reader as a pdf automatically instead of opening in another search engine tab?
    Thanks

    Hi
Chrome and Firefox use their default PDF viewers instead of Adobe Acrobat / Reader and hence most PDFs will not be fully functional in those.
For that you just need to change the settings :-

  • URL Hyperlinks in Acrobat (and InDesign) open in new Tab/Window

I really don't understand, why this feature isn't  implemented yet. I tried to google a workaround and found hundreds of posts auround this problem. People where asking how they could do this since 2002 (the oldest post I could find) maybe earlier.
Please make sure Acrobat - and also InDesign - get this feature in the next version - because people want to have it!!!
    What do I talk about?
    The following feature:
    I include a textlink or and Image-link into a PDF-File.
Because of the Standard Browser settings most of the people who download a PDF-File will see the PDF in a Browser Tab. Now, if they hit one of the links (included in the PDF) the link opens in the same window/Tab. The PDF is closed. The only way to get back to the PDF is to hit the return button of the browser or reload the PDF. Normally I would like to open these links in a new Tab or Window. But there is no function nor in Acrobat, neither in InDesign to make the Link open in a new TAB/Window.
I know there was a possibillity  using JavaScript (app.launchURL("http://www.MySampleURL.com/someFolder/somePage.html", true);)
and this worked. But now because of the security settings of Acrobat X and later it only works if the user changes the settings. So, it's no longer useful because most of the users won't know how to make the links work.
So at the moment there is NO WAY to make the link open in a new Tab.
I know If I link another file, it askes me where to open - new window or the same. Why can't you implement it for URL's too?
Sorry, I searched the whole day to solve this problem. And I can't understand, why Adobe doesn't look at there customers needs (since 2002 or earlier).

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
