Acrobat 8 crashes

Acrobat 8 on Windows: Every time I open Acrobat it crashes. The error reads  "C++ Runtime Error. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way." I went online and found a Solution (rename Updater) but it didn't work. I called Adobe and they said they don't support 8. Does anyone have a solution?

thanks for your reply. i just tried it again and for example when i get the yellow start up window i try to create a pdf from my lexmark scanner (which works fine outside acrobat) acrobat scan window appears and it freezes ... acrobat closes automatically and i am left with .... do i want to report the error ...... yes .... and .....
"Problem caused by Adobe Reader. This problem was caused by Adobe Reader. This program was created by Adobe Systems Inc.. Adobe Systems Inc. does not currently have a solution for the problem that you reported."
I uninstalled the acrobat reader some days ago to try to fix the problem as i don't need the reader anymore so i don't have the reader on my pc
many thanks for your help

  • Combining PDF Form causes fields to disappar, Acrobat to crash when trying to edit combined PDF

I have a 10 page PDF form that I can edit normally.  I combine it using the Combine Files wizard.  The resulting PDF has several fields disappear upon saving, and causes Acrobat to crash every time if I try to edit the form.  I can combine the original PDF form with no other document, and the error still occurs.  I have several similarly named fields, such as Name#1 and Name#2, and it seems that all those fields disappear after going through the Combine Files process.  I can open the resulting PDF, and fill in the remaining fields, but attempting to edit the form causes Acrobat to crash each and every time.
I have used this process before, with no problems, but it fails every time on this form.
This is the error in the Event Viewer: Faulting application Acrobat.exe, version 10.0.0.396, time stamp 0x4cc5ebc0, faulting module AcroForm.api, version 10.0.0.396, time stamp 0x4cc5f5cc, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0012d905
This is using Acrobat X Standard and Pro on XP Pro and Vista.
If I open the original PDF, and insert a new PDF as new pages, that works fine.
I updated Acrobat to the latest patch, problem remains.  I don't know how to resolve this.

Did a little more testing and this is what I found. If I use the "Insert from file" feature to combine a cover sheet plus 3 AcroForms (inserting each file one by one), eveyrthing appears to work.  However, if I use the "Combine via Acrobat" feature I run into the issue of fields disappearing once combined.
I shoudl also add that perhaps the issue had something to do with the fact that I initally produced the cover page pdf via Photoshop "save as PDF". Perhaps that contirbutted to the structure issue despite it being a PDF...maybe under the hood things are structured differently.  Who knows.
Just FYI for others: What appears to be working is using the "Insert from file" option vs "Combing via Acrobat". Also, if you are including a non-AcroForm PDF, be sure it a traditional vs. saving as a PDF from Photoshop.
Alot of this may be a fluke, but it seems to fix my issue - for now.

Since having installed Yosemite my adobe acrobat X crashs as soon as I want to open a file, can anyone help on this issue?

Please try the steps below and let me know if it worked for you
Delete all the files from following folders:
    [Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SLStore
    [Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SLCache
And, delete all files from following folder except cache.db
    [Home]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AdobePCD

  • When I compare 2 documents Acrobat 9 crashes

When I compare 2 documents the progress bar will come up and will not disappear.  Eventually the following error will appear
    Acrobat.exe - application error
The instruction at "0x0000195a" referenced memory at "0x0000195a".  The memory could not be "written".
The above error also comes up if I click on the Progress bar for Document Compare.
Acrobat then crashes.  We are running Acrobat Pro 9.5, and have this happening on multiple machines
    Thanks

Hi, I have had a similar problem in Acrobat 10.1.9.22 for *specific files*, and talking to the Adobe tech support, they were also able to reproduce the crash with Acrobat 11 with these files, so it sounds like this bug is definitively not fixed yet.
    The bug:
    - When comparing 2 documents (View | Compare documents...), after some progress, Acrobat crashes (on my Windows 7 machine, it says "the application stopped working", the exception reported for me is c0000005 which is according to Google a memory access violation code). This will happen only on some *specific* .pdf documents (though it will be systematic for these). I am able to compare other .pdf documents fine without any issue.
** Current workaround** (thanks to tech support about this): You basically 'clean up' these bad .pdf documents by converting them to postscript and then back to pdf:
    Instructions for Acrobat X:
    For each document, do:
    1) File | Save as | More options | PostScript
    2) Then (in Windows at least), right click on the .ps file and choose "Convert to Adobe PDF" to convert it back to .pdf.
Now the convert the two documents should work fine with these 'refreshed' documents (hopefully).

  • Acrobat 9 crashes on OCR

I've been trying to convert a batch of large PDF files to PDF searchable files by using the OCR of Acrobat. In the middle of a batch, a large (1000+ page) document crashes acrobat. I have narrowed it down to this image:
    http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/2418/badke2.png
    59,520 bytes
When I convert it to PDF (File->Create PDF->From Single File) and then use Acrobat to "Document->OCR Text Recognize->Recognize Text using OCR", Acrobat always crashes.
Is this true for anyone else that could try it?
It kills my batch processing and is making this large conversion quite painful. Is there a way around it?

    - 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo
    - 4GB RAM
    Acrobat 9 Pro

Acrobat 9 Pro OCR always crashes when using ClearScan but not when using "Searchable Image" or "Searchable Image (Exact)." I scanned several journal pages at 300 dpi (color, grayscale, bitmap) in .tiff and .png as well as screen selecting text from a browser. The results were consistent across all variations.
The last time I used the Acrobat's OCR function was last Summer before upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion. Under Snow Leopard, Acrobat did not crash during OCR (it did crash, just not while processing text for OCR). I did not attempt Acrobat OCR under Lion 10.7 or 10.7.1.

    1. Open wikipedia "Crash (Computing)" page

I tried several text sizes from the default to much, much larger. Text size has no impact on the results.

A crash (or system crash) in computing is a condition where a computer or a program, either an application or part of the operating system, ceases to function properly, often exiting after encountering errors. Often the offending program may appear to freeze or hang until a crash reporting service documents details of the crash. If the program is a critical part of the operating system kernel, the entire computer may crash. This is different from a hang or freeze where the application or OS continues to run without obvious response to input.

  • Strange problem with Adobe Acrobat X (crash without a trace)

    Hi,
I have a strange problem with Adobe Acrobat. It happens totally randomly, it leaves no signs in system logs.
What is happening: during my work Adobe Acrobat sudennly crashes. After a crash I cannot run it again - system seems to do something for a second, but then nothing happends. When i look into taks manager - there are no processes of Acrobat.exe. It just doesn't want to run. What I need to do is to reinstall whole Adobe Acrobat - which requires restart.
I've already tried to restart system after crash, it doesn't help - reinstall is required.
Sometimes everyting is fine for a 3 months, sometimes crash happens a week after the previous one. It also happens in very different situations (somtimes  while opening a file, sometimes when doing something simple, sometimes in more complex tasks).
Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

  • Acrobat X Crashes Reduce Size PDF

  • Acrobat Reader crashing alot

    Hello,
My Acrobat Reader crashes frequently. I've uninstalled it, confirmed my system exceeds the system requirements, and installed it again. When it crashes, I receive an error message about something called Data Execution Prevention (DEP). Does anyone know if Adobe has a DEP-compatible version of Acrobat Reader X? Or how I can ask Adobe directly? Has anyone experienced similar issues? Do you have any other light to shine?
Thank you; I am just finding my way around here, so please forgive me if these questions are really basic and/or ought to be unnecessary.
    Thank you. ~ Anne Marie

    I appreciate the response.
Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium (copyright 2007, Service Pack 2)
When it crashes, the message is "Adobe Reader has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
The next one is: Adobe Reader was closed.
Then, a longer message comes up near the program icon at the bottom strip across my window, about the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) -- it is one of those that is only there fleetingly, and I cannot copy it down in time before it disappears. However  it contains a link to an FAQ about Data Execution Prevention (DEP).
I gather that Windows feels obligated to close the program for one of two reasons: either security has been breeched (I ruled that out) OR there's an issue with how/what part of my system's memory is being accessed.
    Thank you!

  • Acrobat 9 Crash All Day

Would someone help me to nail this down why Acrobat 9 crashes all day
    please?
When it works, it works fine. But when it starts crashing, it will
crash all day with XP saying the bib.dll is having problem.
Sometimes if I work on a bunch of PDFs, it will work. Many times it
will just crash. Especially if I work on more than one PDFs at a time.
Let's say I open one PDF and then open another one, it will just crash.
I have tried reinstall, remove the Preference file, etc.
    No luck at all.
Software problem? Hardware problem? need to run it as "admin"?
I am running XP sp3 with 3 gig of memory with a Pentium 4 3Ghz PC.

    Bill@VT wrote:
    > Have you cleared the TEMP folder recently?
I have tried that. I cleared everything in the TEMP folder, restarted
XP couple times and ran Norton WinDoctor. Acrobat 9 still crashed all
day especially if I tried to work on more than one PDF at the same time.
Usually when Dr. Watson pops out, that means there is something wrong
with the physical memory, doesn't it?

  • Acrobat X crash

Acrobat X crashed repeatedly when I tried to open it, so I unisnstalled thinking I'd try again. Application Manager shows that it is already installed so will not let me download again. What's the solution? Mac OSX 10.6.8.

You will want to remove all Adobe Creative applications, use the cleaner tool - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html and try installing again.  Acrobat may still crash after you get it installed due to the root cause of whatever was causing it to crash in the first place has probably not been resolved.

  • Acrobat X crashes upon closing.

I have Acrobat X 10.1.6, and just installed updates using the download option on the Adobe site, so I'm currently at version 10.1.7. Whenever I try to close Acrobat, it crashes.
