Click once on a pdf document and do a Get-Info (command-I). In the resulting box you can choose what program you want to open the document with and with what program you wish to select to open all similar documents. Mac 101.

  • Making Acrobat the Default .pdf Viewer

Can someone tell me where to find the switch that makes Acrobat 9 my default .pdf program?  Right now it's Foxit and I want to go back to Acrobat 9.  The default switch in Foxit says I have to make the change in Acrobat.
    Thanks.

    Depends on your OS.
Mostly if you right click on a PDF that is saved on your hard drive and choose "Open with", pick Acrobat and select "always use the selected program to open this type of file" it will clear it up.
I'm not sure why Foxit gave you that information though.

  • Acrobat Ignore "Set as default PDF Viewer" Setting

    Hello,
I see from previous posts that this has been an issue for a while. I have an image that contains Adobe Reader. That image is deployed to all users. Some users get Acrobat Pro. also. So I went thru the whole customization tool and selelcted "Make Acrobat the default PDF viewer" and am using the Setup.ini and .MST file. Everything else works - skips EULA, reads serial number - everything but making Acrobat Pro the default PDF reader. After I install it and launch it for the first time I am presented with the "make Acrobat reader your default PDF viewer" question. How can I set this once and for all and not prompt every single user?

Unfortunately there is no option post installation with Acrobat 8 to change PDF ownership. However this is possbile Acrobat 10 onwards. But yYou can choose to make Reader XI the default PDF handler during installation itself.
    1. Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, select the entry "Adobe Reader XI" and Un-install.
    2. Then visit link : http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and choose the Reader which you need.
    3. When you double click the EXE, then a screen will come showing extraction of files. As soon as extraction ends, installation will begin and you will be presented with following screen :
    4. Uncheck the checkbox which says "Make Adobe Reader my default PDF viewer"
Acrobat 8 will remain default PDF viewer on your machine.

  • How can I make Acrobat Pro XI open by default to thumbnails view (Pages Panel & Pages)?

How can I make Acrobat Pro XI open by default to thumbnails view (Pages Panel & Pages) without changing the properties on every single pdf?

Not possible. This is a file-specific setting, not an application-wide
    setting.

  • Default pdf viewer Reader icon in finder shows Acrobat

I previously selected Acrobat Pro as my default pdf viewer. I then changed back to Reader, however in the Mac Finder I am getting the Acrobat Icon. I changed All Files to Reader, but the icon will not change back.
Am running Reader 11.0.2 and Acrobat Pro 9.5.4
Operating system Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

    Hi ,
Please See the below Steps :
    Step 1
Single click a PDF file you wish to open or any PDF file in general while holding the control key. Then select 'Get Info' from the menu you've opened.
    Step 2
Under the heading 'Open with,' the current default application for opening PDFs is listed. If there is no application listed you may need to click the triangle to the left of 'Open with' so that it points downward to reveal the current setting.
    Step 3
Click on the application listed to open a menu displaying additional applications. In this menu locate the most recent version of Adobe Reader. If Reader is not listed or an old version of the software is listed select 'Other' from the bottom of the menu.  Navigate through your Applications folder to locate the icon for the Adobe Reader application and click to highlight it. Click the Add button to select Reader.
    Step 4
Back in the information window click the 'Change All' button so that all subsequent PDF files will be opened by Adobe Reader.
    Step 5
Click the Continue button to confirm that you'd like to change your settings. Now all PDF files will be opened by Adobe Reade

  • Default initial view that applies to all PDFs opened

Is it possible to set a default PDF initial view that applies to every pdf opened, regardless of the source of the pdf?  Simply put, I want to have the initial view of EVERY pdf I open to be at 100% zoom and no bookmark panel.  Obviously this can be done manually every time I open a pdf, which will then reopen with those settings.  It seems logical that I should be able to set a default initial view that will apply to any pdf I open and not require me to manually set every one. I've tried every option noted in all the forums I have found, using prologue and epilogue, file>properties, edit>preferences, action wizard.  It all boils down to this...I don't want to manually set anything.  I want to open pdf documents in the initial view I prefer.

I have spend a great deal of time researching this exact question.  What I have found is that essentially the answer is "no".  I have come up with a workaround that isn't painless, but it gets the results I want without having to touch every pdf after it is opened.
I set up an Action in Acrobat that has the options I want (page and 100% with no bookmark panel open) and run it against pdfs in a specified directory.  It sets all initial views for any pdf in the directory to what I want.  The action can also be run against any directory or file, but for my purposes I find doing it in a sort of "batch" mode works best.  To set the Action:
         1.     Open Acrobat (with no other pdfs open)
         2.     File >Action Wizard>Create New Action
         3.     On right panel set
Start with:     "Ask When Action is Started"
Save to:          "The Same Folder Selected at Start", check "Overwrite existing Files"
(if you plan to run this action against a directory as I am)
         4.     From left panel
                             Select Document Processing>Set Open Options
         5.     In right panel click on "Options" for the step you just created and set the initial view you desire
         6.     Save
When you want to use the action you can access it from Acrobat opening window or any pdf file you currently have open.
Another alternative is to use Distiller with epilogue.ps or prologue.ps to append this initial view to any document created.  As I don't create many pdfs, it didn't really help with what I wanted to do. .

  • Windows 8.1 is forgetting Acrobat as my default PDF viewer after startup

I installed Arcobat XI Pro on Windows 8.1. I set Acrobat as my default PDF viewer during the installation. After the installation, none program was set as the default PDF viewer. When I tried to open a PDF file, Windows asked which program I want to use as my default PDF viewer. I Choose Acrobat.
Each time I start up my computer, Windows has forgotten my default PDF viewer. I did some research to find out if it was a problem with Windows or with Acrobat. I turns out to be a problem with Acrobat, becuase if I set Adobe Reader as my default PDF viewer, Windows does remember my default PDF viewer after startup.
Is there anybody with the same problem and do you have a solution?

    Hi Anand,
    Thanks for your responds.
This way is not working either. Both Reader and Acrobat are version 11.0.9.
Do you have any other solution? Beside, do you have any idea what is causing the problem?
    Regards,
    Matthijs

  • Keeping Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as the Default .PDF viewer

    Ok,
So with all the new vulnerabilities with Adobe reader, our company is try to stay with the current updates of Adobe Reader.  The problem I am running into with patching all the workstations is that we have a large user community that uses Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as their default .pdf viewer etc. When patching all workstations with the latest Adobe Reader it changes the default to Reader.
Has anyone had this issues? Or is there away to keep Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro the default when upgrading the Reader?
I'm thinking of removing Reader all together on the workstations that have Pro.
    Thanks

That is the Adobe recommended and supported setup.
Too many problems arise when you have those two Adobe products on the same machine.

  • Bridge,( Installed, Default .jpg viewer), doesn't open by default jpg files.

I have Adobe Bridge installed and set as my default image viewer including .jpg's. It appears in programs list and as default image browser. I have some jpegs, however that a friend sent me that won't launch Bridge when selected. Their extensions are DSC###.jpg.
When selected, Windows viewer is launched. When file association is promted, Bridge does not appear in the program list, even when a deeper search in the Adobe file is performed. The images appear and open properly IN Bridge, but not by default when their file is selected outside of Bridge. Bridge appears in file association for other .jpgs. There doesn't seem to be a file extension DSC listed ( I didn't think it would be).
What Gives? (Win7 ultimate, Adobe CS5)
    TY in advance!

Perhaps it is a matter of semantics.  Bridge is not a separate program, so it will not be listed as the default program to open image but listed as CS5 (don't have any of those programs on this laptop, and out of town).  It is strictly a browser so technically the images do not open within it.  You can view the image but to open it it will be in the parent program Photoshop or one of the other in a suite.
Adobe is quite particular on images.  Some images just will not open in PS.  Then the best bet is to open in a program like Infanview and then use "save as" to save without imperfections.
Quicktime is the default program to open many files in Bridge, and is necessary with certain file formats.
If I am not getting to the heart of your issue I don't mean to dance around it, just not fully comprehend it.
