Acrobat 8 - IE7 - XP - TIF Images linked from website

All,
We use Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and Professional on a number of Windows XP desktops that are updated nightly with a Windows Update Server.  We manually configure workstations to open TIF images with Acrobat such that they open just like a PDF would.  This worked GREAT until last week.  Some Windows Update (seemingly) has made it so that now when we associate .TIF files with Acrobat they open fine from the desktop, however if you open Internet Explorer, goto a page with a TIF linked, click the TIF, Explorer says that the file is not able to be opened with the default application and asks me to save.
Expected Operation
1. User goes to www.pagewithtif.com, clicks image.tif
2. Explorer asks if they want to open or save
3. User clicks open and Acrobat loads (just like a PDF).
Observed Obersation
1. User clicks file
2. User greeted with "SAVE/CANCEL" dialog (no open!) saying the file cant be opened by the default application
3. After saving, the dialog disapears with no open!
I have tested this with a virgin Windows XP image with ONLY IE7 and Acrobat installed, no other configuration except configuring TIF's to be opened with Acrobat.
IE has the Adobe Plugin listed.  PDF's work as expected.  It works fine in Firefox.

I remember what the difference is. I used to have different choices. [Open] [Save] [Cancel]
I used to Always choose OPEN for pdfs. I could choose to save later if I decided to keep the file. Is this a change that Adobe made? A browser plug-in, maybe?
I really dont want to save EVERYTHING, and have to remember to drag it to the recycle bin later.
Any help?

  • Converting image links from Word to PDF

If I insert a picture into a Word file (Insert/Picture From File), select the picture and Insert/Hyperlink and then Convert to Adobe PDF, the hyperlink is still active in the pdf file as expected (Add Links is checked in the conversion settings).
However, if I do the same but apply any layout options to the picture before attaching the hyperlink (e.g. Format Picture/Layout/Square text wrapping), Convert to PDF does not convert the link into the pdf file and the image appears as if no link had ever been set.
Does anybody know of a solution to this problem?  Or is Acrobat 9 any better?  I am curently using Word 2000 and Acrobat 6 running on XP

    Thanks for the reply.
I have already inserted the links within the pdf, so I do have a working document.  It is only a draft, though, and any subsequent editing requires going back to the original Word document, editing and converting again to pdf and then re-establishing the links - with over 30 images (linked to pre-exixting pdf documents) this last step is both tedious and error-prone!  Thanks for the warning re Acrobat 9 and Word 2000.  I had been thinking of upgrading ...

  • Extracting Image Links From HTML

Hi, at the moment am trying to extract image locations from the html files i.e. the "src" part of <img> tag. Have tried using HTMLParserCallback as I know this allow you to extract links from a page. However when I open a document I know to have <img> tags in it, handleStartTag() is not called, I only get all the other tags. Any idea how to solve this problem? Thanks very much,

  • Firefox not displaying some images linked from Photobucket

Firefox 19.0 there is a website where they have a gallery of pictures all the images from the gallery are hosted on Photobucket, they use to show up as normal but now for some reason they don't, I tried clearing the cookies and the cache, I made sure the download images automatically is check and every other bit of advise I could find on the web to no avail.
One thing I notice though is if you right click the missing image to get to view image information you will see Location: the address of the image is correct (copy and paste in the address bar bring up the image)
Type: text/html (This is odd it should be img/jpeg)
Size: 0 kb (of course the image was not downloaded)
Dimension: 0 x 0 (again no image downloaded)
So if anybody has an idea how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The images on that page aren't links to real images, but at least currently link to an html page (page info > media shows type text/html).<br />
You can see that if you right-click an image and open the image in a new tab by middle clicking the View Image entry in the right-click context menu.<br />
Firefox seems to have a problem to display the image in this case.

    Hi,
So all these browsers exist in one system? which is the default browser? I suggest you check the default program in
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs
I guess that you've set a default browser to open these links, while the browser is broken.
or check associations under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations, especially check associations for .htm .html . ftp .http .https, etc.

  • Unable to view links from website

My issue i can't sort is when i insert a link on the index
page, to another page health insurance for example, the URL that
apeears is something like health%20insurance and then i get website
cannot be found? I setup the link using DW toolbar
    Any ideas
    shukes

you didn't answer any of my questions in the other thread.
What do you mean by "add on domain" ?
Does it mean that this site is hosted inside of a folder at
    the other domain
you have? So it has unique content
Or is it that the new domain name points to the SAME folder
    as the other
domain? They both contain exactly the same files?
And- on the page, there are only links to other sites, links
    to the index
    page, and this link:
    http://ultim8search.com/Health%20Insurance.html
which gives a 404 error using one domain, but works using the
    other domain
    name.
IF this is two domains pointing at one set of files, I don't
    know what is
    happening.
BUT- it would take one minute to go to the Dw files panel,
    rename Health
Insurance.html to something without a blank space, okay dw to
    correct links,
then upload the index.html page and the new renamed file and
    see it that
    solves the problem.
I'm not sure what the purpose of that site is-

  • I am having trouble opening links from websites I am currently on. The window will pop up but the content is blank. What should I do?

I do not know if this is a result of something I did, or something that happened when I updated Firefox. Any help would be appreciated as I really need the windows to show the content I want to see. An example of what I am talking about:
I was on Verizon's website and I wanted to sign up for more information on the iPhone. When I typed in my e-mail address and hit the submit button, another screen pops up and where there would be a web address, it says "Search Bookmarks and History" but will not show me the content.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode? <br />

  • Multi Pages TIF Images

    Dear All,
I have an attachments form that read an image files from client machine and store it in an oracle BLOB column.
I use the following code to transfer the file from client machine to my database table :
    webutil_file_transfer.Client_to_db(filepath,tableName, columnName, whereClause);
It works fine for me except for multipages Tif images coming from fax . the system save only the first page.
I am using oracle database 11g and oracle forms 10g .
    Any ideas please ?

    Hello François,
    Thanks for your kind response.
Yes I did and I tried to see the file using PL/Sql Developer and it shows only the first page of the image file.
Note : I tried also to open the original file from client machine using Microsoft Paint and it shows only one page but if I use Windows Picture and Fax Viewer it shows full 3 pages.

  • Saving PDF from AI causes TIF images to be 'intersected' by vector shape behind it

    Hi,
I am encountering this issue frequently and would appreciate any insight...
When I have a design made up of both embedded TIF Images and vector shapes which overlap, the shape of the vector beneath 'cuts' or intersects the image laid on top and produces a white area there.
It is seen in the full color PDF's I send to the printers at the local newspaper. The PDF is saved at 180dpi. The 'save illustrator editing capabilities' makes no difference whether it's checked on or not. It does not occur in 300 dpi PDF's Saved from AI.
The problem is the printers save all artwork to 180dpi PDF's no matter what format I send.
Can this be avoided by doing something on my side? or has anyone else had this before?
    Thanks,
    TJ

yep especially that copy and paste is not working via mouse annoys me. i only get the "insert, image link" stuff on my right mouse button.... and i don´t need that as often as copy & paste.
the quote function is not very good either, compared with other forum software.

  • Make the link from the single cell of Bex Report and the image of bill

    Hi guys,
my client scan every bill and archive the image by File.net technology.
In our Bex Report we have the Bill number and we want to make the link from the single cell and the image of bill.
The possible paths to solve the problem are:
Replicate the image in BW and crate a link from the single cell and the image of document.
Create an URL link from the single cell and the image of document archived on File.net server.
In witch way we can to implement the two paths?
    Thank you.

  • How do I create a dial link from a hotspot on an image in Dreamweaver CS5?

I understand how to create a link from text, or from an image, but I need to create a link within the image map so that clients on their cell phones can call by clicking on my chosen hotspot. Any suggestions?

Right, thanks. I've had to adapt it and create 2 more duplicate contact images, for the other small screens as the image maps are too large on the smaller screens. But I managed to get it to work how I want. Thank you.
But I can't figure out how to do the tel: link. I've tried so many variations. But when I update the website, and try it on my mobile phone (which by the way, is not an iPhone, it's just a Samsung Tocco Lite), the tel: links won't work, both on the images, and the raw text. My phone just keeps coming up with an error message, saying: "Invalid Phone Number".
    The text tel: links are: <div class="PhoneNumber"><a href="tel:+64-09-537-1458">09537 1458</a></div>
I've had to put the phone numbers in seperate div tags, that way, I can hide each div tag, according to the layout for the screen sizes.
    And the image tel: links are: <area shape="rect" coords="6,36,110,59" href="tel:+649537 1458" />
As you can see, both these tel: links are different, but both don't work.
Is there something I've done wrong to make the error message pop-up instead of dialing the number? Or is it the case of it being my mobile phone that doesn't support it. How can I correct it in each instance if it is the case, so that it will work on all forms of mobile phones?
Please note that I am in New Zealand, and the country code is 64. and 09 is the area code.
    Thanks.
Edit: It doesn't matter now. I've managed to figure it out, and it now works on my phone.

  • Images cut from Microsoft Word document being picked up in the file size by Acrobat distiller

    Hello All;
I have a large MS Word document (book manuscript) with almost 400 images (all grayscale) and found that the tiff images needed to be replaced with jpegs to reduce the file size. I created the jpegs, cut the tiff images from the document, and inserted the replacement jpeg image for each tiff image cut. It reduce the file size in Word from 595 Mb to 210Mb. However, when I ran the distiller, it is somehow picking up the file sizes of the tiff files as it still gives roughly the same output (595 Mb) for the Acrobat document. Is there a way I strip out the tiff image overhead from the pdf or a way I can cleanse it from the MS Word document? Thanks in advance.

Acrobat automatically compresses images when a PDF is made, usually doing something equivalent to JPEG (it's your choice, check the creation options).
So, changing from TIFF to JPEG in the original file will usually make not a bit of difference to the original file size.
There is no simple 1 to 1 connection between the size of a Word document and a PDF. Some things are bigger, some are smaller.
You can experiment with Save as ... optimized PDF settings. Also, use Audit Space Usage in that dialog to see what is using the space.

  • Help Please - having difficulties creating af link from the text to an attached file i acrobat

I have been reading the help, but it just wonn't work when I try.
I have tried as followed (I am working with a danish version, and hope to matched the same word as in the english version of Acrobat Xpro):
    1. From the toolbox i choose content and then 'hyperlink'
    2. I mark the text from which i wish to make a link
    3. Acrobat respond with an popup picture 'create a link'
    4. From the popup I mark 'Open a side' and push 'next'
    5. Acrobat respond with a new popup picture 'create / go to a side'
    6. I go to the navigator and open the list with attached file's that I have embedded in my acrobat file.
    7. I mark the to which i wish to make a link to
    8. In the popup 'create / go to a side' that stilll is open, i push 'Mark hyperlink'
Then I hoped that I have created a link from the acrobat text to the attached file. In stead Acrobat has made a link to the same sidenumber that respond to the text from which i wish to make a link . F.ex. the linktext is on side 10 - then the link goes to side 10.
How do i do it right?
    Please help.

    Hello Bernd
    Thanks for a quick respond.
This corresponds to the text I have tried myself, but apparently I do something wrong
    1.      Open a PDF that contains a PDF file attachment – done
    2.      Go to where you want to create a link. If that location is in the file attachment, click the Attachments button in the navigation pane, select the file attachment, and click open.
Here I go to side number 10 from which I wish to make a link from (I am not open the attachment file at this moment, as the location not is inside the file attachment).
(I earlier also tried to  mark the attachment file and click open, and It result that the attached file just opened normally without creating a link to the file).
    3.      Choose Tools > Content > link, and select the area for the link
Here  I mark the text on side 10 from which I wish to make a link to a attached file
    4.      In the Create Link dialog box, set the link appearance, select Go To A Page View, and then click Next
Here I have selected ‘Go to a page view’ as told and I click Next
    5.      Set the page number and view magnification you want, either in the parent PDF document or in the file attachment, and then click set link.
Here I go to the navigation pane and mark the attached file from the file list (the files in the list hasn’t any side number in the list) and then I click Set Link.
Then I hoped that I have created a link from the acrobat text to the attached file. In stead Acrobat has made a link to the same sidenumber that respond to the text from which i wish to make a link . F.ex. the linktext is on side 10 - then the link goes to side 10.
    What do I do wrong.?
