  • Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat not activated

Adobe CS3, Acrobat Professional 8.1.0, Windows XP Pro: CS3 has been working faultlessly for several years. Suddenly, when I try to print using Adobe PDF as printer I get message "Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat not activated". To my knowledge all of CS 3 should be activated. InDesign, Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, etc work fine. I can even open Acrobat 8 and call up documents but I cannot print to it. When I click on "Activation" in Help menu, both "Activate" and "Deactivate" are grayed out. Any suggestions?

Perhaps you should use this tool:
    <http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html>
The tool repairs the license but before using this tool, have you tried re-booting the system just in case this is a temporary problem?  Also, it is a good idea to create a temporary profile and try using the PDF printer to see if it is working.
If it is working in your temporary profile, then this suggests that your preference file might need to be re-created but this is for next time after you have tried using the pdf in your test profile.

  • Acrobat 'not activated'

    Hello,
Not sure if this should go in the printing section, but it seems like an installation issue, so here goes....
We installed CS6 Design & Web Premium about six months ago, under Windows 8, on a charity/education licence from a registered re-licencer. After about a month, Acrobat stopped working - I think access was denied because it 'wasn't registered', even through it was. Most issues were eventually resolved by - I think - running 'Acrofix', but even so I don't I never been able to print a PDF from within a PDF using Acrobat (and on the rare occasion I've wanted to do so I've used Bullzip instead).
After a long delay I'm about to make the jump from Quark to InDesign, but have just found that elements of the old problem have re-emerged, or were never solved in the first place. Although I can print to PDF from within Quark/Word etc. using Acrobat, when trying to do so from InDesign the process hangs while displaying a 'Downloading procset' message - this occurs whatever test file is used, even a new file with a just single text frame. There doesn't seem to be any problem in Exporting to PDF.  And I've also just noticed that I cannot print to PDF from Photoshop or Illustrator either. In both cases, the process terminates (not hangs) with a different message: 'Acrobat PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat is not activated'. Acrobat has been activated, along with the rest of the CS6 suite (I've been using it ever since the 'blip' in the first month or so), so I don't know what the issue is. I think I may have gone through a reinstall/reactivation process for Acrobat before - but annoyingly I can't remember (and didn't make notes) about whether this or the Acrofix route got things running again (and I don't think I would have tested whether printing from Photoshop or Illustrator worked afterwards).
Does this sort of issue ring any bells with anyone, or does anyone have any idea of how to sort things out?
    Thanks.
    Nick

    Hi Ajlan,
Thank you for your response to this, and for the link. That's very much appreciated.
In fact it occurred to me this morning to try one more avenue (which I probably should have thought of before) before trying your suggestion. From the Help menu within Acrobat I ran Repair Acrobat Installation, which ran for about a minute or so. Although this didn't seem to have any immediate effect (the print issues remained), a few hours later there was a pop-up notice of an available update to Acrobat X Pro (something I'd never had before in all the four or five months in which CS6 has been installed), which I duly allowed to run - and this seems to have cured all the print issues (printing a PDF as another PDF using Acrobat, and printing to PDF from InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator).
So I guess the installation was corrupt somewhere along the line, and the repair function and subsequent update sorted that out (I imagine the corruption which left Acrobat being seen as 'not installed' when printing was also inhibiting online updates).
I'm slightly worried that this might all re-emerge in 30 days' time, as I had thought this had been sorted out before (I think, although I can't remember for sure, using something like the method posted in your link). But for now I'm relieved and a happy bunny - but can I keep your email on file to contact you in case this does re-emerge?
I'll post this (apart for the last paragraph) online in case it's of use to anyone else. Thanks again for your help.
    Best wishes,
    Nick

  • Can't create PDF, Acrobat not activated

I recently needed to move my system over from XP to Vista since programs were unresponsive due to virus infection.  Re-installed CS3 Design Premium which comes with Acrobat 8 Professional.
Had no problem previously creating PDFs, but now sometimes I can and sometimes I can't.  When attempting to print from a report obtained from www.intellicorp.net (background check) I get an error message that says the software has not been activated, but it has been.  I can print to Adobe from my Windows Calendar.
Tech Support's solution is to deactivate the suite, remove the programs, install Acrobat 8 then install the other components of CS3.
Does anyone have a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling.
    Thanks,
    Anna

Acrobat 7 just isn't compatible in the Windows 7 64-bit environment.
An excerpt from a KB article from the days of XP x64.
Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Port Printer," when you install Acrobat 7.0 or Acrobat 3D. The Adobe PDF Printer will not be created. Therefore you will be unable to print to the Adobe PDF Printer to create PDF files. Additionally, other PDF creation paths that use the Adobe PDF Printer will fail; this includes the PDFMaker functions in MS Office applications and AutoCAD and the Create PDF From Multiple Files option in the Acrobat file menu.
To create PDF files, create PostScript files and open them in Acrobat Distiller 7.0 to convert them to PDF. For instructions on creating PostScript files for use with Distiller, see document , "Install the AdobePS printer driver to create PostScript and printer files in Windows applications."
This KB article has a link for 64-bit compatibility of Acrobat 7.x, 8.x, and 9.x respectively.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403291.html
In a Windows 7 64-bit environment if Office 2010 applications are used and it is desired to use Acrobat's PDFMaker then Acrobat X is needed.

i was able  to print with my acrobat before, but I can no longer do it.  the error message says "adobe creation cannot continue because acrobat is not activated"  How do I activate it?

I have the exact same issue. I can print one document and then I get the error mentionned above ("adobe creation cannot continue because acrobat is not activated"). Then I need to reboot in order to be able to print a new document.
I have suite and went to Photoshop as suggested, but this program is already activated. I tried to launch Acrobat Pro but it won't.
I'm using the Design and Web Premium CS6 Suite on Windows Vista.
Thank you so much for your help.

  • Tool/Menu bar icons not active - Acrobat in BROWSER

I have installed the SP1 update of windows 7.  I have the latest version of Acrobat 10. I also have the latest version EXPLORER (9) & FIRE FOX (4).  The PDF file comes into the BROWSER & the Acrobat icons (print, save) show up on the tool/menu bar but are not active.  The commands are active with the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON.
Also, links to other web sites (URL's) within the PDF document are not active.  ie. Does not LINK.
If I force ACROBAT to open as an independent program everything works OK.

Have you solved this yet?  Perhaps trashing the preference file for the menubar would solve this?  Go to the preferences folder-- /Library/Preferences --and trash this file:
    com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

  • Adobe Acrobat XI: Error Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF File.

After installing Acrobat XI Pro on Windows 7 Ent. w/Office 2010.
From MS Word, select Save as PDF, I recieve "Adobe Acrobat is not activated. Cannot create PDF file."
Any and all troubleshooting has failed.
Uninstall Acrobat, language packs, re-install, install updates, Install on fresh image.

kglad  your link refers to Windows XP. As to the rest it is questionable. First of all it would be nice to know the cause, before fixing the problem. For in some cases eliminating the cause will solve problems later on. So, in my case for ex. The problem did not exist until I protected my Word 2010 document and then saved it to PDF--which it would not allow to do so and giving the error message stated above.

    Hi t0m#2410,
How did you install Acrobat, did you install it as a part of Suite installation.
If it is a part of suite then deactivate suite uninstall Acrobat, Reinstall Acrobat using Suite media. Launch Photoshop first and Activate.
    Then try launch Acrobat.

    Hi Stephanie ,
Please follow the steps below to change the default program for viewing pdf's
    Launch Acrobat
Click on the 'Edit' button in the toolbar, and then select 'Preferences'
A new window would come up. On the left column, higlight the 'General' Tab and on the right hand side at the bottom there's a button called 'Select Default PDF Handler'

  • NOOK Simple Touch says "Error Dialog: user not activated" whenever I try to open e-books?

I have had my Nook Simple Touch for about a year now, and I have been using Adobe Digital Editions without a problem. Now, all of the sudden, Barnes and Noble updated my software and I can't read any of my ADE books!! It just says "Error Dialog: User not activated" every time I click on them. I have looked at many other websites and I have tried plugging my nook in to my computer and reauthorizing it, reauthorizing my computer, deleting the digital editions file and .adobe-digital-editions file, redownloading my books, turning my nook off and on, crying, and screaming. The weird thing is, in all the instructions, it says a pop-up box will come up when I delete the files, but it never does. Is that normal? I always have to do it manually by clicking on the gear. I even made sure I "unhid" all the hidden files. I HAVE DONE EACH OF THESE AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND THEY NEVER WORK!!! HELP ME, PLEASE.
Also, a lot of the websites say to make sure your Barnes and Noble ADE I.D. is the same as the one on your ADE computer I.D.. Is the B&N ADE I.D. different from just the Barnes and Noble ID? Becasue I have been using my sisters email for my computer ADE and my email for the B&N I.D.. Are they supposed to be the same? If so, how come I was able to use it without a problem before?? I tried reauthorizing ADE with my email, because I also have an ADE account with my email, but then it wouldn't let me redownload my books onto the new account. Does this mean I have to change the ADE computer I.D. and wait until my books are available again to read them? Is that the way to fix it? UGH!
    Help is much appreciated.
    P.S. I have ADE version 2.0

Just to clarify, there are two levels of Authorization -- one for the ADE software and one for the nook. You have to use your Adobe account to authorize both (and they have to be authorized with the same user name). It sounded like your original problem (Kcoline) was with the Nook authorization, and it was the same problem the rest of us were having.
To get your files back, I suggest carefully reading over the "Activation and Authorization" section of the ADE help. It appears that ADE will automatically find your files but note the "Note" in quoted text below...
    http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/help/
"After activation, any books, magazines, or other documents you previously bought with Adobe Acrobat® or Reader® software are migrated to Adobe Digital Editions. This is usually a relatively quick process. Adobe Digital Editions opens each item and reverifies its license to the user. If you don't have DRM-protected items, you don't need to be online during the migration. If you have a large number of items (for example, more than 100), then this process may take a while, but you will see a progress bar indicating the state of the migration as it proceeds.
Note: Items that you previously borrowed from a public library with Adobe Acrobat® or Reader® software are not migrated to Adobe Digital Editions. You need to return the library item and then borrow the item again with Digital Editions."
If it's not finding your files, it may be because they're located in a folder different from the one that ADE is trying to use to find them.
You may also want to check the "Transferring items between computers" section, as this describes where the files should be located, and how to reimport them into your library.
    Good luck!
