Acrobat 8 Pro and Office 2007 Problem

I posted this in the CS3 forum originally. They told me to post here too.
Issue:
When logged in as a local user (no admin rights) Word 2007 will crash the whole computer when you type a key.
The reason I am posting on Adobe forums is that this only happens when CS3 is installed as well on the same computer.
Troubleshooting:
Both products work fine as a local user account, if only one or the other are installed.
During login, Acrobat Pro will display a MSI/Installer progress bar for about 30secs. After I updated Acrobat to 8.1.3, that stops, but the Word crashing problem doesn't.
When starting Office, setup runs everytime. It shows just a progress bar and goes for about 1min.
On a doc, if I wait about 5min and don't do anything. A MSI install progress bar will run for "MS Office 2007 Pro", this will re-spawn for several mins. until it finally stops. After that, Word IS usable.
No other problems with CS3.
Fully updated both CS3 and Office 2007
This could very well be an Office issue, but it is associated with CS3 also being installed on the same computer.
Any help would be great!

Forgot again! Using XP Pro sp2 and sp3.

Agree, this looks like an interaction between Acrobat 8 and Microsoft Office. The symptom you used to see (prior to 8.1.3) was probably Acrobat's "self-healing" process trying to fix something in Office, probably related to the PDFMaker feature that is installed into Office. Perhaps you have a somewhat unconventional installation of Office 2007 with custom registry settings?
Also, you mention that Word "crashes the whole computer" - are you referring to a BSOD or what? Word (and the Acrobat plug-ins for PDFMaker) don't go into any protected mode that can cause a full system crash. Very strange!

  • Acrobat 9 Pro and Office 2007 - Incompatibility??

I have been reading comments on other forums about a compatibility issues between these two softwares. See Amazon product feedback reviews on Acrobat 9 Pro for example.
Is this a issue users here are experiencing?.

Some of what I saw was someone coming to AA9 from AA5. For OFFICE 2007 he had no choice if he wanted the PDF Maker functionality. There is likely an issue, possibly with either AA9 or OFFICE not being updated. Being sure you are up to date is important. Currently AA9 appears to have no updates, only an add-on. However, it may be that OFFICE 2007 has updates, in fact likely. The bottom line is that the complaints did not provide enough information to see if it was an AA9 problem, MS problem, or a user problem. Enough folks seem to have survived the transition successfully, it is a good chance that the latter problem may be the issue in that forum.
The comment on support is not new in concept. That has been a complaint for as long as I can remember with past versions too. I think it was with AA5 that I started coming to the forum, and that was the move that saved me a lot of time and frustration (other than I now spend a lot of time on the forum).
For comments about compatibility, I would search this forum and see what others have had problems with and the solutions that have been suggested. I think you will get a much better feel for the compatibility. Two of the comments on the link praised the software.

  • Acrobat XI Pro crashes Office 2007 Powerpoint when converting to pdf

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 x64 and Office 2007.  I also have Acrobat XI Pro.  When I convert a .ppt powerpoint file to .pdf, powerpoint stops working.
When I click Convert to pdf, Acrobat prepares the slides and then begins publishing and about 1/4 of the way through I get a message that powerpoint has stopped working.
I have run the Office Diagnostics and it found nothing.
I have reinstalled Acrobat and it didn't help
Is there a compatibility issue?  Would an older version of Acrobat Pro work such as Acrobat 9 or 10?
Is there an Acrobat Preference that I could change that would solve the problem?
    Thanks
    Tracy

Thank you, it actually turned out to be the specific document, other
    powerpoints converted without error.

  • Having problems with OPA 10 and office 2007 templates

    Hi,
I have a OPA 10 and office 2007 set up which is having some issues with the macros. Seems to me that the visual basic code is not kicking off really well sometimes. I am trying to map the sequence which leads to the errors and I believe that the issue is around opening an old word doc which has a old template version (.dot). This may be the cause for OPA getting lost when working with word 2007.
For example, I ask to open a rules doc and the visual basic tells me that OPA couldn't open the doc but word is opening the doc anyway. However none of the toolbar commands work as well as I can 't save the doc etc.
Have you experienced any issue with OPA 10 and Office 2007? Any special word configuration? Should i go back to office 2003?
BTW, I have both dotm and dot templates loaded as add-ins in word. The dotm toolbar looks good but the dot toolbar is a bit strange in 2007.
    Cheers,
    Paulo

    Hi Paulo,
Have a look at the following tips from Davin Fifield about troubleshooting the toolbar.
Sometimes when using Oracle Policy Modeling, Microsoft Word documents that are part of a Policy Modeling project may appear without the OPA toolbar (in Office 2003) or OPA options on the Add-Ins ribbon (in Office 2007) when opened in Microsoft Word.
This problem can be caused by various factors.
Here are the top three troubleshooting steps to try to recover from this situation.
    1. With your project open in Oracle Policy Modeling, run Update Oracle Policy Templates from the Tools menu. This will attempt to make sure the correct Word template is attached to each project Word document that is not currently excluded from the build. Open a Word document to see if the toolbar/ribbon is now displayed correctly. If not, continue to step 2.
    2. Try changing the UI language for your project. To do this, choose Options, from the Tools menu in Oracle Policy Modeling. Select Environment. Selet General. Under Authoring UI Language, choose a language other than your preferred UI language, and click OK. Then repeat these steps to revert to your preferred language. Open a Word document to see if the toolbar/ribbon is now displayed correctly. If not, continue to step 3.
    3. Open one of the Word documents in your Policy Modeling project. Run the macro UpdateToolbar: In Word 2007, choose the View ribbon, then select Macros/View Macros, highlight the UpdateToolbar macro, then choose Run.
    Does this resolve your issue?

  • Fillable form created with Acrobat Pro and sent to iPad by email.

I Create a Fillable form in Acrobat Pro and emailed it to an iPad. I loaded the PDF into Acrobat Reader for iOS. The file is opened, all fields filled and then it is emailed. So far so good.  I then exit reader iOS. Later when I come back in and open the file the fields are still filled. If I do this same process on a windows PC Acrobat reader functions exactly the same but will not save the data in the form when the application is exited. This is exactly what I want. How do I get Reader iOS to perform in this manner? It is imperative that the fields in this form be empty every time I open it on the iPad.
    THanks

If I open your Form with Reader XI, modify it, then close it, I am prompted to Save.  If I select “Don’t Save”, then, of course, the modification is not saved.  If I select “Save”, the modification is saved.  So it does not appear that any logic has been embedded into the form that clears the modifications prior to Save.  Its possible that older versions of Reader do not permit Save, however, a user using the current version of Reader: Reader XI would need to be trained to select the “Don’t Save” button for your workflow to be valid.
With the Mobile Reader, save is implicit.  So there is no prompt to Save on close.  The modifications are saved automatically.
If you want to start with a reset form each time it is opened, there are a couple alternatives:
Users can duplicate the unfilled form and work with the duplicate each time, thereby leaving the original in its unfilled state.
You can embed some instructions into the form that clear its contents on form open.  Note that with this option, the prior content (pre-clear) will still be in the file even though it is not presented to the user.  This would be a problem if multiple users were using the same device and the form content were sensitive.
I’ve sent you a version of your form with option 2. implemented that you can try.

  • Acrobat Pro and Reader fighting for Safari frameworks folder...

We manage hundreds of Macs of which most are at 10.4.8.
We have both Acrobat Pro and Reader 7.0.8 installed on all Macs.
Sometime within the last few weeks something has changed on our systems (eg: upgrading from something under 10.4.8 to 10.4.8) that is causing Acrobat Pro and Reader to fight for the Safari.app/Contents/Frameworks/ folder. This folder contains aliases to either Pro or Reader frameworks within that Acrobat app's own frameworks folder (...Acrobat Pro.app/Contents/Frameworks/)
This issue is that the end user is prompted to authenticate for either Reader or Pro to "repair itself" which it is just changing the aliases within the Safari Frameworks folder to point to their own frameworks.
If I set Preview as the default pdf viewer and then delete Acrobat Reader so that only Preview and Acrobat Pro are on the client, then it seems to work beautifully without authentication request. We would like to keep Reader on the systems though. We use Sassafras' Keyserver with a limited number of licenses for Acrobat Pro.
Has anyone else experienced this? Found a solution, etc?
    Thanks!

I agree with rikbarry - I finally reinstalled Acrobat, then ran the
update to 9.4.5. The updater took nearly an hour to finish which can't
be normal, but the software appears to be the correct version now.
I work for a very small graphic design company and use an older emac
that has pretty much reached its shelf life for many apps and OS.
Could my aging computer be contributing to the problem?
Because we depend heavily on pdf workflow, I chose to reinstall
WITHOUT running the uninstaller first, as the 9.4.4 version was at
least still functioning. I was somewhat surprised that it worked, and
I am NOT looking forward to the next updater.

  • Acrobat Pro and Reader 9.4.4 to 9.4.5 Updates Fail

I was unable to get a satisfying answer via phone support, and after connecting with a supervisor, I was disconnected. So here goes...
(Mac OS X 10.6.8) Adobe Updater 6  began notifying me recently that updates were available for Adobe Reader from 9.4.4 to 9.4.5, but my attempts to follow instructions resulted in Error 1301 "The update could not be applied because the Adobe Reader application contents were modified since the original installation. Please reinstall Adobe Reader and check for updates again."
Adobe updater soon notified me of the need to update my Acrobat Pro from 9.4.4 to 9.4.5, but but my attempts to follow instructions resulted in Error 1301 "The update could not be applied because the Acrobat Pro application contents were modified since the original installation. Please reinstall Acrobat Pro and check for updates again."
When Adobe updates its software, I shouldn't have to "reinstall" old software and "check for updates again" in order to install the update. Surely Adobe can offer a more direct, convenient way for customers to update their licensed software?

update to 9.4.5. The updater took nearly an hour to finish which can't

I am having the same problem - the install crashes around 40%.

    Hi Bruno ,
Could you please verify the Acrobat version you are using is the latest Acrobat DC or some older version ?
Does this happen with any particular PDF file or all the documents ?
If you haven' tried repairing your Acrobat ,please try the same and see if that helps .
For repairing Acrobat Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help> Repair Acrobat Installation .
If that does not work you could probably uninstall the software and try downloading it again and see if that fixes the issue .
Let us know how it goes .
    Regards

  • I have downloaded a trail version of adobe acrobat pro and when I try to use it, it says that it cannot be edited in acrobat, please use adobe livecycle designer to edit this form. I can't work out what I need to do?

I have downloaded a trail version of adobe acrobat pro and when I try to use it, it says that it cannot be edited in acrobat, please use adobe livecycle designer to edit this form. I can't work out what I need to do?

Acrobat XI is not distributed with Designer. Designer is now a separate product. You can create forms in Acrobat as an AcroForm or using Forms Central (an online forms program). You can print the form to a new PDF and then recreate the fields in Acrobat using the recognize form fields. You will likely have to fix the form fields, but that would be the process. Generally, once a form is taken to Designer, you can't bring it back without such steps.
Designer is available with AA8 - AAX, but since is a separate product as I indicated.

  • Need help - Print Menue in Acrobat Pro and Standard

    Hello,
at first, i have to apologize for my bad englisch because I'm german.
I downloaded a Trial of Acrobat pro and there I hava an extended Print menue where I can choose individual Color Profiles.
    There is an image attached.
But I don't really need the Acobat pro Features, because I need Acrobat only for Color Printing on my Printer. And it ist expensive.
So my Question to you is: Is this extended Print menue also in Acobat 9 Standard?
There is no Trial, so that I hope, that someone can help me.
Can I also set this settings in Acrobat 9 Standard?
Thank you very much for helping me with my buying decision.
    Greetings from Munich
    Sebastian

The Advanced Print menu in 9 Standard does not have all of the options that are in your screen shot.
Checked with a coworker who has 9 Standard, and the options are much more limited. (I have 8 Pro).
Bad news is you would need 9 Pro.
Saw this the other day; sorry for the slow answer, good luck.

  • Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT

Adobe v9 on W7 and office 2007. cannot create PDF from MS word using Adobe. But can from Excel, PPT and other MS office apps. Reinslalled Adobe, updated Office, and Adobe no help! Also I can create a pdf from the MS Word and it is using the Adobe 9. So one would think that's good. No it isn't when you need to combine different files to one big PDF document. Any suggetions? Thank you

Yes, I’m saying that I can in WORD use “Save As ADOBE pdf” but cannot in ADOBE create a pdf file from a WORD (.doc or .docx) document. While I can from other MS Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint.
I understand I can use “work around” and save doc in WORD as pdf then compile all files needed (xml, ppt, pdf) in the ADOBE v9. to one big pdf document. But that is not the point of this post.
