Acrobat 8 Professional Crashing - Printing/Plotting

Hi,
I have spent the better part of two days modifying some very large .pdf files created from Microstation drawings. (A couple of these drawings are 25 to 30 MB.)
I have added clouding and call-outs to the drawings I received from my client.
When I try to print or plot these drawings, a message window opens which shows the progress. At approximately 5% flattening, the print status window disappears, and a window with Adobe Acrobat at the top opens... the window is black with the exception of a button that says "Okay" when I select OK, the black window closes. In some cases I receive a message stating that Acrobat has stopped working, and in other cases it can continue.
Looking at the events log the following information is presented:
Faulting application Acrobat.exe, version 8.1.0.137, time stamp 0x46444c82, faulting module Acrobat.dll, version 8.1.2.86, time stamp 0x4788548f, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000acf04, process id 0x1c14, application start time 0x01c8f01ec7e0c1bc.
The only thing that I did to the drawings is add the clouds and call-outs. I'm now dead in the water with all of the work I have done this weekend.
I'm hoping someone can tell me what to do to correct this problem.
Thanks
Jeff

Hi Bill,
Thanks for your reply.
You are correct, I am using Acrobat to add notes and other details to documents that have been provided to me in .pdf format. The files were originally by my customer in Microstation (a CAD package) format; but, they output them as a .pdf so that I could add my details. (I use AutoCAD to prepare drawings, so the Microstation files would not work.)
Basically, the large file size that I reference is for a single drawing... in other words, a single sheet. The size of the document makes it really hard to work with... it takes a long time to load, and a long time to move around the .pdf. In other words, it isn't possible to break it down into something smaller.
I hope I answered your questions.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

  • Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software

Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software. I use Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 to assist me when I add comments to a PDF. I also use it when making additions or changes to text.  When I use the two software programs together, Acrobat constantly crashes.  If it doesn't crash, an error occurs trying to save the file.  I entered 988 comments into a 158-pg PDF, only to find the file was corrupted and couldn't be printed. I also could not see the list of comments (click Show Comments).
These problems do not occur if I don't use both products simultaneously.

Never overwrite a clip that is used in Pr.  Give the
modified/corrected/updated clip a new name and import that into your Pr
project.  Then Alt+Drag the new clip on top of the old clip in the
timeline to replace the clip instance.
If import-then-drag isn't your style, then right-clicking the original
clip in the Project panel and selecting Replace Footage will accomplish
    the same thing.
This important rule applies in Encore as well.

  • Acrobat 8 Professional crashes 10 seconds after you start the application xp

Acrobat 8 Professional crashes 10 seconds after you start the application. I have adobe acrobat 8.1 running on a dell vostro 1400 vista.

Are you sure it's crashed and not 'temporarily-frozen'?
I'm having this issue with Acrobat 9, in which it launches and runs long enough to page down two times and then stops responding for about 30 seconds.

  • Acrobat 8.1 crashes printing

I've had persistent problems with Acrobat Professional crashing when I print. It doesn't seem to matter if I print to a local printer, adobe pdf, or a network printer, the document will print but then the Windows error reporting dialog opens. Adobe exits when I click cancel.
It happens almost always when printing from within Outlook, IE or Firefox, and probably 80% of the time if I start Acrobat and open a pdf. I've tried print to a file, print as image and all other printing options I could find, but none seem to help. It will crash even if I print to file and cancel.
I tried re-installing Acrobat, but that did not help.
I see a number of other complaints posted about this problem, but no resolution.
I'm currently running 8.1, but it was also a problem in 8.0. Windows XP SP2.
    Thanks,
    Alan

Did you ever get an answer?
I have the same problem.  Adobe wanted to charge me $39 for tech support, or sell me a $159 upgrade to Acrobat 9.  Neither of which I want to do at the moment.

  • Adobe acrobat 8 professional crashes in mountain lion

I just bought a new IMAC with mountain lion. I realize some of the older programs no longer work with it but I reinstalled adobe acrobat 8 professional and it does not seem compatable. I tried downloading an update and a patch but it constantly freezes, trying to use the text edit doesn't work and crashes the program or locks it up. I need to be able to edit PDFS and the program no longer works. Any suggestions?

You could try using spotlight to search for PDF files... short of that, you may have to ask Adobe.

  • Mac Acrobat 8 Professional crash

After a HDD replacement and a fresh install of 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) on my Mac, I reinstalled my copy of Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. It used to work perfectly pre-crash. Now Adobe crashes after 20-30 seconds with an enormous crash report. Won't run for love nor money. Worked before. Works on other Mac 10.6.8 machines around the office installed with the same disk, by the same person (me). Won't go - Broken. Can anyone decipher the crash reports, or suggest a fix (other than pay Adobe more money to upgrade)? If I pay money, it won't be to Adobe......

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional - Crash Problem

The error appears when I open Acrobat, but also if I open any folder containing a PDF. The error reads "A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0 Professional cannot continue. Please re-install the application and try again." If Okay is clicked Acrobat shuts down. Have tried repair and uninstall / reinstall. Noted on some forumn web pages that I need to remove the Adobe foldes before reinstall, bu tI could not find them.  Any suggestions?

The Adobe folder should be under Program Files on your system. On my Win7 system they are in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0.

  • Acrobat 8 Professional (Distiller/Printing to PDF)

I'm running Acrobat 8 Pro with latest patches installed (8.1.6, I believe) and ran into an issue using Snow Leopard. I can get Acrobat 8 to load and run fine, allowing me to save PDFs from within the application. However, the Adobe 8.0 printer driver (distiller) appears broken in 10.6. If I select the printer it will go through the options of where to save the file, and a print queue for the document, but then it won't create it in the end. I know many of you are probably thinking "why print to Adobe PDF when you can just use the built-in PDF button to save as PDF instead." I guess I just like my apps to work. Removing/resetting the adobe driver through the 'add printer' option didn't seem to help. Anyone else try this yet?

This is a major Pain in the A>>. I work in a virtual office and share a pretty high volume of PDF documents as software requirements, diagrams, etc. I almost never print to actual paper, the PDF driver was my default printer. I would hit Cmd-P, Return, print a file name, Return and presto a PDF. Now I have to mouse around and find the "save to PDF" option from some ridiculous nearly hidden list of options in a drop down button. There's no keystroke or shortcut that I can find that allows me to do this w/out mousing around.
Sounds like Apple and Adobe ran out of time and the usability got left on the cutting room floor.
BTW, I'm on Acrobat 8 still, so I don't even have the option to "Print to Adobe PDF" - AND if I print to landscape mode, the view isn't rotated, the document is "sitting on its side" in portrait -- very frustrating...

  • Acrobat 8 Professional crashes while adding security options

I am trying to set the security options in a document I converted using the PDF Maker in MS Word 2003. Every time I try this, I get a message saying "Acrobat has encountered a problem and must close." Help???

I don't know what you mean by "with the security off". I am creating the document within MS Word, but once it has been converted to PDF I open Acrobat and set all the options from within Acrobat. I usually set some document options such as how it should open, etc. and then I set the security options. I can create the PDF using either the PDF Maker icon on the Word toolbar or use the print to the Adobe PDF printer option. It's after I open the document in Acrobat and start working with the security options. I can set how the document opens, but it hangs up when I go to the security tab of that same menu.
Here is a step by step account of what I am doing:
I open my document in MS Word, then I either choose the icon that on the toolbar to convert to PDF or I choose the Adobe PDF printer from my list of printers from the "print" menu.
I close the document and then open the PDF version in Adobe Acrobat.
I then choose from the File menu the Properties option and start to make my setting there, i.e. how the document opens, magnification, etc. and then I choose the "security" tab to set the security options.
I can get as far as the actually password menu and then it freezes when either I get to that menu or I try to click the checkbox to set a password for no copying, editing, etc.
The same sequence of events happens no matter whether I use the PDF Maker icon in MS Word or use the "print to" the PDF printer in MS Word.

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional Random Crash (Access Violation)

hi all. first time poster. long time reader.
i have encountered an odd access violation problem - 'ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc0000005 - The instruction at "blah" referenced memory at "blah". The memory could not be "blah" - in 'acrobat.dll' recently with a customer who is experiencing seemingly random crashes with adobe acrobat 8 professional.
they are running the application off a citrix presnetation server 4.5 server (windows server 2003 R2 with service pack 2). each server is hosting about 8 or more users per server per day. every now and then, ie once a day, adobe acrobat crashes during use. there doesn't appear to be anything consistent in so far as the action the user is performing. they will be mid-way through marking up a document and it will just crash for one of them. all the others will continue working fine.
i have access to numerous crash dumps and nothing seems to really stand out...other than 'Acrobat_3000000!AVAcroALM_Destroy'. For example...

is 'AVAcroALM' to do with licensing?
other than advising them to bring citrix presentation server 4.5 up to date (HRP2) i'm at a loss what to advise. citrix often have issues with seamless published applications when spread across multiple monitors (as in this case), hence, my reason to ask them to bring their software up to date. often the funtion called will be different - often times 'Acrobat.dll!PDDocCreateWordFinderEx', other times 'Acrobat.dll!PDDocAcquirePage' and there are others.
i can post more of the mini-dump if required. any - and ALL - assitance appreciated.

In Acrobat 9 pro, open the PDF file,  add the Printer Marks for “Trim” and “Registration”, save the file and close the acrobat. Wait for few minutes and the acrobat crash occurs. Attached the screen shot. Please let know the solution for this issue.

    Good day,
I'd like to confirm a few things:
What action/activity are you performing in Acrobat when it crashes?
Is the crash consistent at the same point?
You stated in the subject '..after upgrading to 10.6.7'
What OS was on your iMac when you purchased it?
Was this problem occuring when using an earlier verion of 10.6.x?
Have you applied to font update Apple released to address some of the problems they introduced with 10.6.7?
Did you perform a clean install of Acrobat on your iMac after you purchased it or was the application transferred in some way?
I hope we can get this resolved for you!
    Regards,
    David

  • I have a new 64bit computer to which I have transferred all my files and re-installed all my programsWhen I try to print a page using Adobe Acrobat 9, Firefox crashes. This has never happened before, and does not happen with other browsers.

I have a new computer. I transferred all my data files and installed my programs. Now, when I try to print a page ti pdf using Adobe Acrobat 9, Firefox crashes, and Adobe hangs up.

Thanks for your reply cor-el. I had never heard of nor seen the pref network.http.max-connections until I read about it in some of the replies in this support forum. People were saying 256 was the old setting and a new setting of 48 would correct my problem. When I followed the instructions to get to - see - and change the setting I discovered that my network.http.max-connections was already set to 48. I never did this. The only way I can think of that this setting was changed is that it happened by an automatic update to my Firefox browser. So, the problem I have was probably happening while this setting was at 48 all along. It is still set at 48 and I am still having the same problem. I will try as you suggest and set it to 30 and see what happens. I'll let you know the results. That's again for your response.

  • Acrobat 7 Professional - PDF Writer errors out in Print Queue

    Hello,
I'm an IT Technician.  We've just imaged many of our machines and several of our secretaries use Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional so I re-deployed that application, along with the 7.1.3 update.  Everything works fine for me, including some of our test accounts.  For this secretary, though, every time she goes to print something to 'Adobe PDF' the progress bar flashes quickly, it errors out in the print queue, and no document is created.  If I log in, or use another account with similar rights to her's, it works just fine.  I have removed Adobe Reader from it, done all the update, even gave her full control over that printer but still no luck.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!

When you print to the Adobe PDF printer, it normally creates a PS file in a specific location and AcroTray then notes the PS file and proceeds to finish the job of calling Distiller. Doing the Print-to-file was just to check that the basic functions work. If they do not, then which one fails - the print to file or Distiller. These steps should help isolate the problem and give you some direction to go. Sometimes it is just easier to reinstall or repair the current setup. If the person is not logged in as an administrator, is it possible that the installation restricted the application to only administrators?

In using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional I have added oval shapes to a form, but they do not print.  How do I get all shapes to print?
I am using a Dell PC with Windows 7 Professional as the Operating System.

File > Page Setup = Scale
The Scale control is what controls the size of what is printed to paper. 100% is usually the best setting.

  • Printing to a pdf error after migrating from Acrobat 7 to Acrobat X Professional

Printing to a pdf seems be broken in Acrobat X on my XP machine.
I have just upgraded from Acrobat 7 professional to Acrobat X professional.
With Acrobat 7, printing to a pdf file from within a program (MsWord, Visio etc) was a breeze. Now, with Acrobat X on the same machine, the print spooler always reports 'this document failed to print' even though the pdf is created correctly. I am then forced to cancel the pint job within the spooler itself.
    Any help gratefully received.
