Acrobat 8 replaces Adobe Serif MM font with TimesNewRoman

I have a PDF document which is using the font Times Roman with the following properties:
Times Roman
Type: Type 1
Encoding: Standard
Actual Font: Adobe Serif MM
Actual Font Type: Type 1
When I edit it using the Touch up Text tool, this font gets replaced with TimesNewRoman with the properties:
TimesNewRoman
Type: True Type
Encoding: Ansi
Actual Font: TimesNewRoman
Actual Font Type: True Type
How do I get Acrobat to use the original font without replacing it?
Where do I get Adobe Serif MM font?

Hi Alexander,
It used to work in 7.10 because by default, we used to cache all font-config fonts on every launch of the reader. But, in 8.1.2, in order to improve the launch timings on systems which have large number of fonts, we have made caching of font-config fonts optional through the use of the flag that you mentioned in your note (ACRO_ENABLE_FONT_CONFIG).
Thanks,
Shilpi

  • Any problem with replacing system true type fonts with postscript?

I want to replace the Times true type (d.font) font in the systems fonts folder with a Times Postscript font. Will this cause any problems? Are there any system true type fonts that can't be replaced with postscript fonts?

You should not deal with fonts inside /System/Library/Fonts/. Your system may not be able to boot!

  • Strange font replacing my regular system fonts

    Howdy,
Running a G4 800mhz with 10.3.6. Occasionally, my computer will freak out and start replacing my regular default font with some cyrillic looking font.
Nothing I can do makes this go away, except shutting down and retarting.
The two programs that seem to be affected are Safari and Mail.
In Mail, the bad font will show up while reading an email (all emails, not just one or two), but not in the email lists. Meaning, I can see the email subject, and sender and stuff, but when I click on the email, the preview pane stuff is all in this bad font.
In Safari, large portions of a web page will be in this bad font, but no all of the page.
I assume some preference or font is corrupt, but I need help with a troubleshooting path.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Mark,
One potential problem is that you have duplicate fonts. Another possibility is that there is some corruption in a font cache. There is a very good overview of Panther fonts and troubleshooting strategies at Font Management in OS X Tiger and Panther, by Kurt Lang. My suggestion would be to check that out.
    Hope this helps,

  • Adobe Reader substitutes Helvetica with a serif font under Ubuntu Linux 8.04

    Hello,
after an upgrade to Ubuntu Linux 8.04, the following problem occurs:
    Short description:
Adobe Reader substitutes Helvetica with a serif font (Adobe Serif MM).
    Long description:
A font that is not embedded in the PDF should be replaced by a similar one that is available on the system. In particular, sans serif fonts should always be substituted by other sans serif fonts. However, Adobe Reader substitutes Helvetica (which is sans serif) with a serif font (Adobe Serif MM).
    Prerequisites:
    Operating System: Ubuntu Linux 8.04
    Adobe Reader Version: 8.1.2
PDF-Document: uses Helvetica, but font is not embedded
Has anyone an idea how to solve this problem?
    Regards

A particular PDF file can have fonts embedded within it, or may refer to fonts installed in the operating system - but in either case it uses the Postscript name of the font, not the common name seen on menus. This ensures that when fonts are substituted or edits are made to the PDF file, the correct version and vendor are matched, not just the common name. Postscript names are unique, and often end with the initials of the vendor (LT = Linotype, MT = Monotype, etc.). "Times" on a font menu refers to the Linotype font "Times-Roman" (sold by Adobe and others), and "Times New Roman" refers to the Monotype font usually named "TimesNewRomanPSMT" (a Postscript font in a TrueType package, which is part of the standard set on Windows). They look the same from a distance, but internally they are different enough that a direct replacement is not normally possible. If you ever need to work out which has been used and cannot inspect the metadata, look very closely at the number "5" - in the Linotype font it has a tiny serif on the top right corner.  Embedding a font into a file has no effect on Acrobat whatsoever (lisabritne, what you're saying makes no sense).

It sounds as if you downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you did, uninstall it. Then repair Adobe Reader.
The free Acrobat account has no connection to any of this.

  • Replace missing fonts with default fonts

I used fonts in my document that were not downloaded to my computer.  I would like to replace these fonts with the default fonts that the computer automatically substituted.  Is there any way to find out what fonts were used to make these substitutions?

I realize this is an old post, but maybe it will still help.
Was looking for the same functionality in Photoshop as in InDesign, where upon selecting "Replace all Missing Fonts", there would be a dialog box allowing me to choose the fonts to replace to. Instead, it just arbitrarily selects "Myriad Pro", regardless.
My solve, as clunky as it is, worked OK if your whole document uses the same font for everything. E.g. a font across multiple slides of a presentation.
Using the newer filtering options in the Layer menu, select the "Filter for Type layers".
Select all the type layers with the yellow triangle warning.
Go to your Type menu and select the font you want to replace to.
You will be prompted for each layer to confirm the change, get ready to hit "OK" a lot of times.
Click on the "Filter for Type Layers" option again to restore your full menu list.
Should take care of the issue.
With that said, this is a feature request that is well overdue!

  • Adobe Type 1 Font is not compatible with Windows 8 64bit?

I found that Adobe Type 1 fonts are not compatible with applications that run on Windows 8 64bit. When used, the appearance of fonts on the screen is not correct. Even worse, the font does not appear at all in the CorelDRAW X6. Strangely, when printed, the fonts were no problems. How can I make these fonts can be used in Windows 8 64bit? For additional information, these fonts appear normally when reviewed through the Windows Fonts folder, but does not display correctly when used in the application.

I believe I have a similar issue. I do have the latest Windows updates.
I'm on a new Win8 system, and I installed my Adobe type collection (bought years ago with ATM) by copying the .pfm and .pfb files to Windows\Fonts (there's no right-click > install for fonts on Win8 it seems; copying the font files to the font directory is what I've read as the install procedure.)
Windows then shows an error about .pfb incompatibility, so I selected "skip" for those files.
The result is that my fonts are installed and usable BUT this really screws up IE10 for certain websites. For example, I get blank pages for sites like wordpress.org and validator.w3.org. There doesn't seem to be any way to fix this other than doing a system restore to a point before the fonts were installed. Removing the font files from the Windows\Font directory doesn't help. I don't use IE10 with any regularity but I need it to work for testing purposes.
Is there a way to install these fonts? Is there a way to uninstall them (other than a system restore) if they affect IE10?
It's really hard to install on a one-by-one basis as need arises because I can't tell what the font names are from the file names. There's no application, like a type viewer, that will show me the fonts if I double click the file. (I just ran into this now... I need to use a Garamond type face but have no idea which one it is by looking at the .pfm and .pfb files.)
I would consider buying Font Folio if this is the answer but it's only available for a minimum of 5 licenses? I'm a freelancer and only need one licence.
Should I just use an online tool to convert my .pfm/.pfb files to an OpenType or similar format?
    Thank you in advance!

  • How to replace missing fonts with a specific font (and not a suggested font)

    Hello all!
Looking to replace missing fonts within my document - but the drop-down selection only gives a couple of suggestions, none of which are the font I want to use.
How can I replace the fonts with a font of my choosing?
I've attached an image to give more clarity - notice how the drop-down only gives the option to select between 3 fonts without an option to select your own font - many thanks!

Same problem! The only solution I found is to prepare a textbox in a new file with all the font you need. Copy and past in the file you need to change font. Go to type/risolve missing font. Will open the same window in the pic you pasted. Then you find the font in the dropdown menu. I have to change all the Helvetica family ...it's a long go. If some one could save me. Hope to be usefull to your problem.

  • Replace missing font with font of my choice in Photoshop CS5

I'm using Photoshop CS5. How can I replace all instances of a missing font with a font of my choice?

I am having the same problem. From what I read around the web, there is supposed to be a dialogue box which opens to ask which font you want to use. I don't get a dalogue box, it simply replaces the missing fonts automatically with Myriad Pro without asking which font I want to use. If anyone knows how to get the dialogue box to appear, I'd appreciate the help.
    I am using CC.
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Presenter is bundled with Acrobat Pro

So am I to assume that the when I bought the Acrobat Pro
Extended Edition, I did not buy Adobe Presenter as well?
I called Adobe sales about my issues with unable to activate
Presenter and they forwarded me to Tech support who were clueless
as to why my serial number for Acrobat did not work for
    Presenter.

Adobe Presenter is bundled with Acrobat Pro Extended . When
you install Acrobat Pro extended then install Adobe Presenter using
Menu item of Autoplay.exe .If you do that ,then you need not
activate it , it will automatically activate .
I believe you have installed Presenter directly (not via
Autoplay Menu ) and that is why it is prompting you for serial key
which is not same as Acrobat Serial key and therefore will not
    accept it
I will advice you to uninstall Presenter and install it via
AutoPlay Menu . In that case it will not prompt you for serial key
I faced this problem and above solution worked for me .Tell
me if it works for you as well
