Acrobat 8 Standard will not apply transform file during installation

I also posted this in the Acrobat form before I noticed this Enterprise Installation forum.
I am using the Adobe 8 customization wizard to create an MST file for Acrobat 8 Standard. The MST file disables automatic updates, Acrobat Connect and several other items, however, when I run the install with the transform, none of the changes in the MST are applied. I am using the following command inside a batch file:
msiexec /i acrostan.msi TRANSFORMS=ACROSTAN.MST /qb
I am using the Standard files downloaded from Adobe's secure site, which were then unzipped and used with the customization wizard. I did not create an administrative installation point, as that earlier attempt also resulted in not applying the transform.
I believe the transform file is correct, as I found the above command will work the second time I try to install Standard, but does not work the first time Standard is installed using the MST file.

can you post your transform somewhere? take out the serial number before posting. You might also want to create an install log.

    Any ideas as to why????

Kimg68365882 did you purchase Acrobat 9 Standard from Adobe directly?  If so and you choose to download the software instead of receive a CD then please see Find a download link on Adobe.com.
If you originally received the software on CD then please use a computer with an optical drive to copy the contents of the CD to a USB drive.

  • Acrobat XI Standard will not convert any office documents to PDFs.

I have previously been able to convert Publisher and Excel files into PDFs using Adobe...but today it will not even recognize those files and will not convert them.  why not?  Is this really the only way I can get tech support for this product?

How are you trying to do the conversion. It sounds like you are trying to open them in Acrobat. It may be that your OFFICE did an update and PDF Maker is not working within those products. PDF Maker has to be active and working for you to open those files in Acrobat. You could also open the product and print to the Adobe PDF printer. If that works, then try the Acrobat menu from within the product. That menu is the PDF Maker product and has to work for what you are trying to do.
Also, check your updates to be sure you are current with Acrobat.

  • Acrobat 9 standard will not open in Windows 8?

Not sure what else to do. It installed just fine, but now will not open. Has anyone else had this issue?

I have not seen anyone report success with AA9 on Win8 yet. At this point, that is as much as I can say, other than only AA XI has been certified for Win 8. When you say will not open, are you trying to actually run the application directly and not try to double click on a PDF?

  • Need help!  Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard will not print to printer, only want to print to prn file.

I have done a repair on the file,  I have installed the lastest updates, and nothing works.  My next step would be to uninstall and reinstall the program.  Does anyone have a fix for this?  I have always been able to print PDF files and this just started this week.
    Thanks for any help!

Nothing is broken, and uninstalling will probably not help.
You have an option PRINT TO FILE in the print dialog and you must turn it OFF.

After the last update that was pushed out by Adobe, my Acrobat 9 Pro will not generate a PDF file from; [right click], Combine files into one PDF multiple files chosen in the explorer.  A message pops up asking if I want to run repair.  Answering in the afirmative results in another message stating files are missing.  And we are back at square one.

What is the exact error?  Else you could always reinstall your software.

Make sure you have updated Acrobat X to the latest version 10.1.3.  They updated the PDF plug-in in 10.1.1:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_ 10.1.1.pdf#page=4

  • 9.0 Standard will not start...

One of my users has a Dell laptop, running Windows 7 Pro (32bit), Office 2010 and has the Adobe Reader X installed. As of two weeks ago, he cannot open anything in 9 standard. Standard will not even run. You can open the task manager, run Adobe 9 and the acrobat.exe process runs for a few seconds and then disappears.
He is still able to print PDF files but when they've finished printing, they open in Reader X.
We've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting registry keys/temp items. Nothing seems to be helping.
    Any ideas?

do both keys have sub keys though? There should be quite a few subkeys in the HKCU hive.
The user maybe an Admin, but that doesn't guarantee the Admin has the correct permisisons to these keys. Do check.
The HKCU subkeys get created after first launch and close of Acrobat, so if you've removed Acrobat and re-installed it, i would expect to only see a few at the most under the HKCU hive.
Another possible reason this is happening is a conflicting process is stopping Acrobat from launching.
    one quick test,
hold the shift key whilst launching acrobat, does acrobat launch?
You mentioned this started 2 weeks ago, other than installing reader X has anything else changed on this system.
A good way to troubleshoot is to use process monitor to create a log of the event.
the resulting log will show what reg keys and files are being accessed by any running process and if this is successful or not.

    Hello waitingone,
please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
    1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
    2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
    3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
    4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
    5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
    6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
    7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.
    Good luck!
    Hans-Günter

  • Acrobat 9 Pro will NOT install (CS4 Design Premium)

Acrobat 9 Pro will NOT install (CS4 Design Premium)
Acrobat Pro 9 will not install (FAILED), although every other program on the CS4 DVDs did install properly.
I have followed the instructions, and have tried with no programs running, not even virus protection (which is an insane thing for Adobe to demand of a product being installed where the installation routine is expecting an Internet connection): FAILED.
I uninstalled my Acrobat 6 Pro, (a standalone Pro version that I had to have  a few years ago.) I uninstalled that working program knowing I had no idea where my original Adobe Acrobat CD is located, so I was essentially cutting myself off of Acrobat Pro if the Acrobat 9 Pro install continued to fail.
I reported this to Adobe support online.
I have followed the instructions to disable startup items and services, then tried the Acrobat 9 Pro install: FAILED.
At that point, I gave up installing Acrobat 9 Pro. I didn't have any more time to screw with it - I would re-visit the installation failure later.
Lo and behold, a client sent me a PDF file of a brochure, in an email, and I had to grab some text from it to put on his website (Done in Dreamweaver CS4.) Well, damn, now I'll have to go back and get that install to work...FAILED!
Suspecting a problem in the installation routine on the DVD, I decided to download the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro. So, I did. It downloaded and installed without a hiccup, and I had Acrobat 9 Pro working for 30 days...
I did what I had to do, using the trial version, then figured I would re-visit the installation issue later, when I had a few hours to dedicate to all the hell of calling Adobe software support, handholding, maybe registry edits, multiple reboots, and multiple attempts at doing everything again, just so the support person would know that I did follow all the steps correctly to prove thw outcome is sill FAILED!
Oh crap, I got another PDF file. No problem, I thought, I don't need to edit the PDF, just read it. When I tried to open the file, Acrobat 9 Pro plastered a screen over the program - the screen saying my 30 day trial version has now run out, demanded a serial number, or quit. My CS4 serial number would not activate it, and so I had to quit, not even being able to read the PDF file.
So, I un-installed the trial version of Acrobat 9 Pro that had installed without a hitch and had worked flawlessly for 30 days.
Now I'm going to have to visit hell, and get the software that I paid hundreds of dollars for to work...
Please STOP and NOTE: Acrobat 9 Pro installed perfectly from the downloaded Internet version. What does that tell you? There are no operating system issues, no hardware compatibility issues  (which I knew anyway, as the OS and hardware is up to date.) Even more significantly, there is no issue with the Windows registry, or other versions of Adobe Acrobat that had been installed before in the machine. My conclusion was that it has to be a problem with the installation routine on the CS4 disks.
So, I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe personnel: software support, to customer service, to sales, to customer service, and back to sales. After software support came to the conclusion that I needed to UNINSTALL ALL OF CS4, and run a clean-up utility, I knew I had to try getting a new set of DVDs and hope the installation routine problems/bugs had been worked out.
After being batted back and forth by Adobe Customer Service and Adobe Sales, I finally got someone to agree to send a set of DVDs to me.
I got the DVDs. I tried to install Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro: FAILED
As I told the software support person, I do not want to un-install the entire CS4 suite. I have all of those programs working fine, and have about a dozen web sites within Dreamweaver CS4 painstakingly set up and active, and some of them are current projects that I am working on daily. I also have multiple extensions installed, and spent quite a bit of time getting all of those programs set up for my preferences and my work flow. I DO NOT WANT to uninstall the entire suite of applications to get Acrobat 9 Pro to install.
And the conclusion of the "sophisticated" Adobe Support Advisor as to what specifically was the instalation issue?
    Adobe Support Advisor
The module found no solutions to report for the selected log file.
If you continue to have difficulties with the application,
    please contact Adobe Support: http://www.adobe.com/support
    System Information :
    Operating System = Windows XP
    Locale = en
At this point, what I want is to know what registry keys to edit and which folder(s) to delete to eliminate previous traces of Acrobat. In other words, just exactly the tiny piece of the "clean-up utility" that I need to run in order to allow the *Y#^%@#&#(& installation routine to work for Acrobat 9 Pro. I have no intention of uninstalling Dreamweaver CS4, as that is my business livlihood, and I know that my Dreamweaver CS4 client files/sites could not be read by earlier Dreamweaver versions. Asking me to uninstall Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, and Fireworks is insane. Your bad installation routine is not my fault, and you cannot expect me spend countless hours getting all those programs set up the way I want and with all my client/work files working correctly and all the extensions set up properly. So, if Adobe software support refuses to tell me what registry keys need to be changed, then I want Adobe Sales to send me a new, standalone version of Acrobat 9 Pro on disk.
    Dennis

I hit the same problem except I had a Reader X installed not a pro version.  For me the solution was to really make sure that nothing else was running.  I followed the steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651#reso2 the link is goofy so here is the pertinent text:
Programs that are currently running on your computer may be interfering with the installation processDisable programs that might be interfering with the installation process. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro will not load on  new Windows 7 Home Ultimate PC

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro will not load on  new Windows 7 Home Ultimate PC

When I double click on the AA9 icon to initiate installation, it whirls away for a while then asks if I want to allow "this program to make changes to his computer?"  I click Yes and it begins to process again for a few minutes.  Then it displays the following Invalid Unicode file error message...and simply stops processing or installing.  In that last process, it also reaches out for whatever reason and activates the magnifier tool in Windows.
I have thought that perhaps upgrading to a higher version of Windows might help, but who knows for sure?
P.S. – This is a brand new HP Pavilion dv6 series computer that is more than adequate to this task.

  • Adobe 11 will not read my files.

I have downloaded Adobe 11 several times, with and without the anti-virus set, and though it recognises my files Microsoft reports it had 'encountered a problem and is closing it down' when I try to open them.  When I restore the system to Adobe 9 it opens my old files but, obviously, not those in '11' format.  Any ideas?

Well, it's like this.  Someone sends me some printed  information.  A bill.
A report ,  It downloads.  I try  to open it and it tells me I need Adobe
Reader 11 to do so and gives me a  link.  .  I download from the link.  It
takes an age but in the  end it tells me I have successfully downloaded Adobe
Reader 11. When I try to  open the file Microsoft tells me they have
encountered a problem and are closing  it down.  When I try to open any of my
saved Adobe Reader files I then  get the same message.  I have to use System
Restore to get the facility of  Adobe Reader 9  back.  Then it opens my saved
    files again.

  • Itunes on W8 will not play any files after upgrade to 11.0.4.4

After following the prompt and updating Itunes on Windows 8 to version 11.0.4.4 on 6 June, Itunes no longer plays any audio or video files from my library. Pick a file and Itunes shows that it is playing (Pause button only) however nothing happens. The file simply does not play.  Windows Media Player will not open any files. VLC will play flash video files but with no sound.  Video played in IE10 seems to play ok including sound.   Anyone have any suggestions.  I can uninstall but figure I'll get teh same version when I re-install.   Everything worked fine prior to installing this upgrade.

Resolved by running W8 System Restore to a point prior to the last Itunes update. Now back on the previous version of Itunes. Windows Media Player working correctly with all file types. Itunes working correctly also.  I'm quite happy not to re-apply any updates from Apple for a while.
