Acrobat 8 suddenly asks for serial number, won't launch

I have Acrobat Professional 8.1.3 as part of CS3 Design Premium, student license. Acrobat was not a separate disk. It was installed along with the rest of CS3 and always launched normally. Today, it requested the serial number and would not launch without it. It is acting as if it isn't registered. Rest of the suite is launching normally. I input the serial number from the disk, and it is rejected as incorrect. What is going on?

Just FYI - It's a known issue.

  • CS3 Suddenly asking for serial number after 2 years of use.

I have been using CS3 for two years on a daily basis and suddenly it is asking me to input my serial number as if I was installing it for the first time.  When I input my serial number it says it is invalid.  I am unable to access any application in CS3.  Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to stop it.  This is my job.  I need access to the software that I paid for.

    Try this:

  • Indesign suddenly asking for serial number and rejecting the one I have

    Hi,
This question is very similar to that of act_writ from 19/10/2014 ("Sudden trouble opening InDesign - serial number rejected")
    - I am asking again because that question was not answered.
We have InDesign CS6 on a Mac, purchased last year with a student license. It always worked and opened the program without asking for a login. All of a sudden yesterday it asked for a login and the serial number, but it rejects the serial number I have received when purchasing the product.
I am still a student so it should not have expired.
Any help would be appreciated - I am pretty desperate as the customer support agent I contacted could not help me.
    Thanks!

A serial should be ok if it was ok.
Exceptions are: If the serial was used several times in a way which is causing doubts of its legal use, then will Adobe deactivate it (e.g. use of several serial in connection with illegal copies) or when Adobe shuts down the activation server as it was done with CS2, but the user could replace it with a common serial.
Normal, with a running program it will never ask for a serial, only if the user clean up his computer and delete some folder and files where activation files are hidden. But in that case the serial should be inserted with the next start or in the wort scenario you might uninstall all programs and install them again to be able to enter the serial.
For non English (including UK and US and International) versions users the serial can also fail when the localisation files are deleted.
Maybe that you exchange the serial with some other number or a number from another product which was bundled?

  • Acrobat X Pro asks for serial number @ startup.

Since joining Creatve Cloud, every day when I open Acrobat X Pro, it asks for the CS6 serial number. Does anyone know how to stop it? It was never a problem before CC.

  • Why is Aperture suddenly asking for serial number?

I have just arrived in the Middle East to shoot some work, opened up Aperture (2) and it's asking for the product serial number. I have been using Aperture for 2 1/2 years and it has never asked me for this. Why is it doing this??? And needless to say, I don't have it with me. How frustrating! I have not upgraded anything on the laptop...same setup as before I left.

Since you are away from the serial # I would either call AppleCare or download a trial version... Oops, you said Aperture 2. Don't think Apple has a trial of 2 posted anywhere and if you use a trial of 3 you wouldn't be able to import any library you create back into 2. Try AppleCare.

  • ARD asking for serial number at every launch

    Hello,
Apple replaced the logic board in my laptop last week. Since getting the machine back, a lot of software needed to have its license info re-entered, but ARD is persistently asking for its serial number to be re-entered every time I launch the app.
After removing all of the obvious Remote-Desktop-related files from /Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences, a first launch of ARD prompts me to accept the EULA, then create an ARD master password, then asks for the serial/name/organization, followed by Task Manager and report collection setup screens. Subsequently, a quit/relaunch brings up the serial/name/organization screen and the Task Manager setup, which is exactly what I began seeing after the logic board replacement.
As a workaround, I have my ARD serial loaded in TextExpander, but I'd appreciate some suggestions on what I have to do to fix this permanently. In every case when it's presented the serial number dialog, going back to the very first time after the logic board swap, it's pre-filled my name and organization from the first time I registered ARD 3, so there's clearly some data squirreled away that I haven't been able to find yet.
I'm using direct-sale ARD 3.6.1, on 10.8.2. Thanks for your time.

    Another attempt to help.
Create a new user and see if ARD works any differently in the new account.
If not, then just consider this another bump

    1) Every version of all Adobe software has worked like this. It was the faulty upgrade of the Windows OS to 64-bit that resulted in this behavior. I believe we still don't know why this only happened to a small number of systems, but it is most likely tied to system processor (we have seen such issues in the past) and probably something to do with the BIOS as well.
    2) Not at all. As with all versions of Adobe applications, you can install the software for use on two machines. The activation process lets you lock your serial number to two different Machine ID's at a time. If you want to change machines, you can use the deactivation process to decouple your serial number from your Machine ID for use on a different computer.
2a) Yes, precisely. The Machine ID swap seems to be tied to rebooting the computer and it is generally switching back and forth between a 32-bit and a 64-bit identity. I'm not aware of how to do a local call to get this particular ID off a computer. It is tied to the actual hardware of the machine. This ID should only changed when you do some major modifications to the machine, such as swapping out the processor.
    3) You can do this yourself. Just go to Help > Deactivate.
    4) Again, yes. This has been used for every version of Adobe applications. However, we have made updates to the system that have taken card of this behavior. I have not heard of this issue happening with any of our subscription customers.
    5) Unfortunately, this is not possible for legal reasons.
    6) The Adobe Application Manager is the precursor to the Creative Cloud desktop app. They use the same core technologies, but there have been a number of updates to the make it the desktop app. They are very different in appearance. Here are some screenshots of the desktop app: Sign out, Sign in | Creative Cloud Desktop app
    7) Hopefully, those new threads are in the correct forums. The Photoshop product forum is not the correct place to have discussions on this topic. Posts of this nature should be going to Adobe Licensing or Downloading, Installing, Setting Up

  • CS2 InDesign, why is it suddenly asking for serial number, then not accepting it?

I have been using CS2 since it came out as an upgrade to CS1.  Now with art work in process, suddenly InDesign can not be used.  How might this be corrected?

    Okay, thanks.  I will check.
Regarding Marvin's thought that one cannot upgrade individual programs within Creative Suites, that is incorrect.  On the box of Acrobat 9 Pro it lists CS, CS2 and CS3 as qualifying programs for the Pro 9 upgrade.  The interruption of part of the suite by the 9 Pro installation is clearly an Adobe error and I am surprised at how quickly the support teams have dropped the ball here.
    Thanks,

my account is active and paying per month for Acrobat Pro. Why I cannot open files and the screen asks for serial number?

I don't work for Adobe but it seems to me you might be signing in to Acrobat with the wrong Adobe ID.
Check the Adobe ID you use in Acrobat.
Check this Adobe ID on Adobe's to make sure that it has an active subscription.

  • I have purchased Photoshop CC but I'm still unable to download and open lightroom, it still asks for serial number?

Can any one help me being able to download LR as I've purchased photoshop and lightroom, but i'm still unable to open lightroom it keeps asking for serial number and won't open.
    Regards
    Jason

Uninstall the serial-number LR5, the one you have installed, now, then quit the CC Desktop application (gear/quit or right-click quit), then restart the CC Desktop application, which will rescan and see that LR is no longer installed, and will offer LR in the CC Desktop apps list with an Install button next to it, so install that version.
