Acrobat 8 - windows 7 print to pdf

Hi,
I have Adobe Creative Suite CS3 running on Windows 7. Everything worked fine until yesterday. I wanted to create a PDF from Indesign using Print and nothing happened. The progress bar froze at 3 bars and I had to close the apps through task manager. I've tried just about everything I could think of, including a complete new install of Creative Suite.
So now here's the wierd part: I created a new user account and logged on to Windows using the new account and everything works fine again. If I log off and log back on with the old user and try to print to PDF both apps crash.
Very wierd ... I'd be very gratefull for all tips or feedback!
Greetings from hot and sweaty Germany ...
Gary

    Hi screen name,
Adobe PDF printer gets installed when you install Acrobat 10 Pro.
To use this printer you need to purchase Acrobat. Once the trial period is over you cannot use the printer to create pdf files.
An alternative way for you is to utilize Microsoft's own inbuilt pdf engine.
You can simply open the file and select 'Save as' and in the type list select 'pdf'

  • Acrobat 9 Printing to PDF

Acrobat 9 installation has stopped printing to PDF printer. Windows 7, 64biy; Acrobat version 9.5.4; Distiller version 9.5.3305. When trying to print test page, goes to file save dialog box and freezes. Tried many suggested fixes including installing new PDF printer, but nothing seems to work. Unfortunately I'm in the midst of moving and my original disks are in a truck somewhere, so haven't been able to do a re-install. Any suggestions on what to try?

At this point I would suggest doing Help>Repair. After that is complete, I also suggest checking for updates with Help>Updates. See if that helps.
The print-to-file process is the most basic process in creating PDFs and if it does not work, then most other methods will fail also. The next is to just print to the Adobe PDF printer normally. The 3rd approach is to use the Acrobat menu in WORD (or Save As>Adobe PDF) which is called PDF Maker. The 4th method is to right click and select create PDF. The last method is to use the create from the file menu in Acrobat. Each of these methods gets more complex and in some part may depend on the previous method, so checking in order form 1 to 5 is a good troubleshooting process.

  • Acrobat XI - print to PDF

I had tried Acrobat X but it was so unstable I figured I'd wait for XI. Now I am trying (and really want to buy) XI but it still seems to be so immature and unstable. I have 2 problems I could use help on if anyone would like to help.
My 1st problem, when printing to from different applications (MS Word, Firefox, etc) PDF, nothing ever happens other than it says it is spooling. Attempting to cancel the print fails. Attemps to delete the print job fails. Nothing short of rebooting will clear the print spooling logjam.
2nd problem, I have merged several medical forms into a single PDF (was warned I may loose duplicate named fields). I said OK. Then went to see which fields may have been "merged" so that I might fix them or add new fields to replace them. Now, Acrobat crashes whenever I try to edit or save that PDF. Also, when attempting to edit the forms, I can no longer see the list of form fields in the right-side pane.
    Windows XP Version 5.1.2600
    Adobe XI 11.0.1
Any help would sure be appreciated.

Here's an update. I changed the properties of the PDF printer by turning off print spooling so that it "Print directly to the printer." Now the software is hung in the printing stage. I have an Adobe dialog entitled "Creating Adobe PDF" in the title bar. The dialog message is "PDF Progress" and the name of the document being printed and a status bar that never gets beyond 3 bars. HELP please :)

Is AcroTray running in the background? Can you print to file using the Adobe PDF printer and open the file in Distiller to complete the conversion to PDF?

  • Acrobat 8 Prints Color pdf as b/w--Why?

See attached file. When I try to print it,. the it's as though I've used a b/w printer. Worse the photos are almost entirely black. What's up?

Thanks. That worked. I wonder why though the material is displayed in
color, but not b/w if the print default is b/w? I suppose in someway
    that still makes sense.
I don't see anyway to respond to you on the forum, so I'm just

  • Acrobat Pro 8: When I print to pdf I get windows print error message

This just started happening when I installed my acrobat professional 8.0 on my new computer (with Windows XP Pro). Everything works fine, but when I print a document to .pdf, I get that windows printer pop-up message that says that it was unable to print. As a consequence, I get a bunch of allegedly unprinted documents in my printer queue that I have to keep deleting. This is more an annoyance than anything else, but can anyone tell me how to stop this from happening??
    THanks.

OK, I'm still not sure I'm getting this, but I printed to file, and then opened the prn file in Acrobat Distiller. The actual pdf file was not in the folder, but I could open it with distiller.

  • Print multiple PDFs from Windows Explorer causes Acrobat Pro 9.4 crash

I sometimes need to create a batch of PDFs independently, after which it suits me to print them all as a single job. FYI I am running Acrobat Pro 9.4 under Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
The sequence of the problem as follows:
    - With Acrobat closed, I go to the directory containing my multiple PDF files using Windows Explorer.
    - I highlight between three and six PDF docs (each individual doc is small, one page, black and white only).
    - I use the "Print" option made available within Windows Explorer.
It's clear that the system then tries to use Acrobat to print these docs, however I consistently get the same behaviour - some print, some do not, but on every occasion I receive the error "Adobe Acrobat 9.4 has stopped working".
Any ideas? Annoying for a paid-for piece of pro software although, granted, not on a level with famine in the third world it would be nice to have all the functionalities working correctly. If it helps my machine spec is below.
    Thanks,
    Alastair
    SPEC:
    Dual Xeon workstation
24Gb RAM (of which 22GB available at time of error)
    Disk 1TB (RAID10) of which 920GB free
    Windows 9 Ultimate 64bit
    Acrobat Pro ver 9.4.1

It may partly be a 64-bit issue since AA is apparently a 32-bit application that can run in the 64-bit environment (not that familiar with 64-bit systems, so I may not be stating it correctly. However, I would start by going to the Control Panel>Programs and Features and do a repair on your Acrobat installation. That will hopefully resolve the issue.

  • I have Windows 8.1 and Adobe CS6 - acrobat just stoped working, won't open anything won't print to pdf. HELP!

Please help me!! I have Windows 8.1 and Adobe CS6 creative Suite. Adobe Acrobat x just quit, It won't open anything and it wont print to PDF. I need this for work!

Typically, the repair is done from the Control Panel>Programs & Features. In the future, try that route. Glad you found something that worked. When you do come to the forums for help, you may not get an immediate response, but may have to wait for someone familiar with your issue happens to check the forum, possibly after work. In any case, glad you have a working product again.

  • Keep getting an access denied window when trying to print to PDF with Adobe Acrobat X with any prgram/internet except for adobe programs

I am trying to print to PDF from Word, Revit, Firefox and all have given me a Access Denied window popup and would cancel the print.  I have Adobe Acrobat X and Creative Design Suite 6.

So you are trying to print to the Adobe PDF printer? What is the full statement of the error (typically it indicates a folder or such does not allow access)? If you open Distiller, are there settings files available that you can view?
In the print menu, select print to file. Then open this file in Distiller. What happens with these two steps and do you get a PDF after the second step?

  • Acrobat and Distiller 5.0 on Windows 7. Is it possible to manage it to print on PDF or update it?

I just installed the Acrobat and Distiller 5.0 on Windows 7. Is it possible to manage it to print on PDF? Or is it possible to update it to support Win 7?

    Hi NicoNeto,
Acrobat 5.0 is not compatible with Windows 7. You need to purchase Acrobat XI as it is fully compatible with Windows 7 or later.

  • After installing an update to Acrobat on my Windows computer, the option to print to .pdf disappears from my printer options menu in all programs.  What can I do?

This is the second time I updated my Adobe Acrobat X Pro program and the option to "Print to .pdf" disappears from my word processing program and all other programs I am running.  Last time I uninstalled Acrobat and reinstalled and that fixed the problem, but that was a long process.  Is there any other way to restore the option?

Do you mean there is no Adobe PDF printer listed? You can check the Start>Devices & Printers list and be sure it appears there.

  • I can't seem to print to PDF from other programs.  I have Acrobat 9 (with latest update), Windows 8, and when I try to print to PDF it defaults to a  *.prn file, and when I change the name to *.pdf the file that it produces doesn't open.

I can print to PDF using PDF995, but not the regular Adobe PDF that comes up in the list of printers.
I've tried repairing the Adobe installation, but that didn't help.

It might help to understand the process, though I am almost surprised that AA 9 worked for printing on Win 8 (thanks for that info). Normally the print process is to print to the Adobe PDF printer (without the print-to-file checked). The process does create a PRN file that is actually a PS file. AcroTray (running in the background) completes the process of taking the PS file and running Distiller in the background to create the PDF. If you have problems, you should be able to print to file (assuming the print driver works -- but you indicate it does) and then opening the PRN file in Distiller to create the PDF.

  • Is there any way to "Print to PDF" from Acrobat?

In Windows, you can open a PDF in Acrobat and print it to a PDF.  This isn't behavior isn't available in the Mac version—trying to use "Save as PDF" and "Save as Adobe PDF" both produce the following error message:
Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save.
Is there any way to print to a PDF from Acrobat Pro X on a Mac (running Snow Leopard)?
Note: There's a utility to being able to print from a PDF to PDF (which I why I suspect it's available in the Windows version), so "You're doing it wrong—just Click File > Save" would not be a very helpful response.  I'm sure there are other uses for the functionality, but in my case in particular I need to split each page of a scanned PDF in which each page contains two pages of the original document.  Printing to a PDF provides an easy way to do this, but I'm open to a more appropriate solution if it's available.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Adobe removed the ability to "refry" (make a PDF from a PDF) several versions ago.
what you need is to go to document and choose Remove (delete) pages (if it’s a duplicate Page)
You can also extract pages, add pages and so on. See this:

  • Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?

Is it possible to Print a PDF as a PDF in Acrobat 11.0.06 on Mac OSX 10.8.5?
I need this functionality. Adobe PDF doesn't appear in the printer list as it did on my windows laptop. I need to be able to print to the PDF "size" of 8.5 by 11 to shrink files down for e-mail. My workflow usually goes like this:  I import all the pictures or create a PDF from multiple files (pictures), I then put them in order  and then print to PDF, two pictures to a page. I can take a 50MB file down to a 1MB file this way. Makes it easy to view on smartphones and the like.
Is this functionality still broken in Acrobat 11? Did I just waste my money? This was the only reason I bought the latest version - It wouldn't work on 9 Pro either.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Thanks Tony. That is exactly the functionality I am not getting from the current product on Mac.
You can get a much better looking result that takes up way less space and opens faster for the end user by printing a PDF as a PDF and controlling the size of the PDF image. I can take - for instance, 6 or 7  10MP pictures and create a PDF out of them. The PDF will be 25MB or so. I can print that as a PDF which will allow me to put two pictures per page  - and that file will be about 1 MB. No crappy looking images, just much smaller size and multiple images per page.
It's a workflow I have used for years on PC.  Everyone keeps saying just save it as a PDF using the Mac print "save as PDF" functionality but that doesn't accomplish the same thing and you can not control how many pages to print on to each new page of your PDF.
I find it misleading that I saw a web page on Adobe's site that shows you can print as a PDF and it says you can print as a PDF on Mac and that is NOT the case.  Print to PDF Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac | Adobe Acrobat XI Infuriating.
I have tried to optimize a PDF with 6 or 7 images and it just doesn't do the same thing. It wont reduce the size as much as I need, cuts it in half - but not down to a small fraction for being an e-mail attachment. I'm using XI Pro. Researched this for about 3 hours and it is not functionality that can be used on a Mac.
I even tried printing as a PDF in Parallels on XP with another licensed version of Acrobat Pro and it still wont let you. You would have to probably dual boot your machine to get the functionality by running windows flat out on the Mac with a separate Licensed copy of the software.
It amazes me that Adobe can't figure this out or make amends with Apple to get the functionality back into Acrobat.

  • Problem with Acrobat XI license when printing to PDF, despite having CC

    Hi
I have a Creative Cloud membership and all programs seem to work correctly, including Acrobat XI Pro.
There is a strange problem though - when I try to print something from Microsoft Word 2013 and chose "Adobe PDF" as the printer (which creates a PDF from the document) an Acrobat window opens, titled "Acrobat XI-Pro Testversion", stating that the testversion has expired and asking to license the product. If i click on the "license this software" button, another screen shows up that states it wants to login with my Adobe-ID (showing my correct adobe ID e-mail address). Clicking on 'login' however leads to a third screen that just has 6 blank boxes and the request to enter a serial number (but since I have CC, I don't have a serial number for acrobat XI Pro).
I already uninstalled Acrobat XI-Pro and reinstalled it (through CC) but the problem persists.
Anyone got an idea what is causing this?

    Hi,
I have the exact same problem. I have noticed that the screen asking for the serial number is on my OS language (Danish). If I deactivate photoshop and activate again the same screen is in English and allows me to login and register the license with no problems. Only when printing with the Adobe PDF printer I get the problem!!
    Anyone?
