Acrobat 8 & Windows 7

I started the install of Acrobat 8 on my new Windows 7 machine and now it is asking me for a "adobePDF.dll" file that is says in not on the Vista DVD.  And this file is needed in order to proceed with the install.  When I chatted with Adobe on-line, they said that it has not been tested on Win 7 yet.
It installed just fine on my husband's machine and he has Vista on it. I just had to go out and get all the updates, one-by-one.
Does anybody have a work around or the above .dll file that is needed to complete the install? What is the size of this file and maybe I can locate it myself?
Also, this is goin on a Win7 64bit machine so I don't know if this makes a difference. And this is only for home use, no fancy work used.
Thanks, Laura

I am using Windows 7 and installed Acrobat 8 with no problems.
I am not a heavy user of the product but I have not encountered any problems using the product either

  • Open a pdf via vba in existing acrobat window

    Hi,
Part of my MSAccess 2007 management application manages document.
By clicking on a document record it would open it using either OLE or DDE depending on the adobe version installed (full or only reader).
I have an unsolved problem with the OLE code.
Opening documents with AVDOC.Open works fine but will always open a new instance (new window) of adobe acrobat even if adobe acrobat is already active and open without document.
Weird as if you click on a pdf in explorer for instance it would open it it the existing window.
If I try to open it using creating a new instance of AcroExch.AVDOC and AVDOC.OpenInWindowEx the avdoc is populated with the file as AVDOC.Gettitle returns the title and AVDOC.IsValid returns true but the document does not show up in the existing adobe acrobat window.
    What am I missing ?
Reason why I want to implement it is as working with two screens I want to have the adobe document on the second screen while working with the application on one screen. By using AVDOC.Open I always need to drag the new opened window to the other screen although there is an instance (window) of adobe acrobat open on the desktop without documents in it (I test it as it is obviously a correct behavior if there would be an open document in it).
    thks in advance for advise.
    Andre

    Hi,
You know I have to thank you for the solution as by asking your question you provided me with a way to solve my problem .....
As double clicking a pdf file when the application is open with no open document works as I want it to (i.e. showing the new document in the existing acrobat window), so I decided to try out a plain vanilla shell instruction in vba instead of the AVDOC.Open statement ... and ....although not very programmatically aesthetic ....  it works.

  • On closing Acrobat Windows detect an error "Data Execution Prevention has closed Adobe Acrobat".

    Hi,
I developed a plugin which captures Before/After open, close and save events and perform some operation inside these events.
I tested the plugin in Windows XP and Acrobat 9.0.0 and 10.0.0 and everything works fine. But when in test my plugin on Windows Server 2008 Standard 32 bits, then windows detect an error while closing the acrobat and shows the following message:
"Data Execution Prevention has closed Adobe Acrobat"
I am using Acrobat 10.0.0 for testing in Windows Server 2008 operating system. Also, debugging the program shows no error but plugin does not produce the desired result when tested on Windows Server 2008 Standard 32 bits operating system.
Can anyone please giude me how to resolve this issue??
    Thanks in advance!

Are you really using 10.0.0?  You've installed no updates to it??

  • How to open PDF in Acrobat 9 without displaying the Acrobat window

Am using IAC in Windows XP via VC++ to open and modify PDFs in memory without displaying the Acrobat window so as to the PDF Processing in the background. To open the PDF, have to call the method PDDoc.OpenAVDoc which opens the Acrobat window for displaying the document.
As a workaround, I tried to minimize and hide the Acrobat viewer, using the AcroApp.Minimize and AcroApp.Hide methods. However opening, minimizing and hiding the viewer is creating a flickering effect (Acrobat window coming and going) especially when a no of PDFs have to be processed in a loop.
If I use only PDDoc.Open without the call to OpenAVDoc, am getting an error "No form is open in the Acrobat viewer".
Can anyone suggest a workaround to open and process PDFs in memory without displaying the PDF.

    PDL,
Am getting the Error "No form is open in the Acrobat viewer" while trying to instantiate fields list inside the form via an AcroForms object. The problematic code snippet is given below
    iPDDoc->Open("PDFFileName")
    iAVDoc->AttachDispatch(PDDoc->OpenAVDoc("PDFFileName")), true);
    ipFormApp->CreateDispatch("AFormAut.App", &OleExc)
    i pFields = new IFields(pFormApp->GetFields());
The GetFields method is giving error in Acrobat 9 but its working fine in Acrobat 7 and 8.
Since the AV layer methods are working fine in Acrobat 7 and 8, please let me know why they are not working in Acrobat 9 and if there is any workaround.
Also, if I use only PD Layer methods, can I access the form fields inside the PDF?

  • Delete scriptcode - General question: capacity limit of Acrobat Windows

    Hello everybody,
I've got a general question to the capacity limit of Acrobat Windows.
    I often make forms with
for instance the current one has 18 pages. Eleven pages have fields on it. (But some pages have only one field on it) The fields of one page to another are sometimes linked with script code. The file needs nearly 1 MB.
Usual I write the script code by a double-click on the field/ calculate/ custom calculation script. (Is this the right way?) Today it happens again that a field with script code lost the script code.
That's why I wonder whether there is a capacity limit of Acrobat Windows or whether I make mistakes. (This is only one instance of several where the form has his own life.)
Thanks in advance for helping me!

  • Where is the 'Search Acrobat Windows Forum' button?

I've largely dropped out of this forum since it changed format (no particular reason, I can see the improvements, but it just seemed to take a bit more time to review and do things), so maybe I'm being dense with my subject line?  The first thing I usually want to do when I enter a forum is search for a topic that may answer my question already, but all I see are options to search Adobe globally (no thanks) or all forums (no, I'm in the Acrobat forum because I have an Acrobat question).  Once I've returned a list that uselessly includes all forums I get a new Search bar and a dropdown list of Adobe applications, so then I can narrow it down, but I've already used my daily allocation of mouse clicks and am losing interest. Am I missing something?

    Bon dias,
You are at "top" of Acrobat Windows Forum.
Enter a string in the Search field.
Click the button at the right.
    Wait a moment.
Search returns are presented from all Forums.
Click "More options" (under Search for: <you query string>
    Observe the "Where" List.
Select Acrobat Windows (nested under Acrobat) - this is the third line item from the top.
If desired - provide a "When" &/or a "Who" filter.
    Click the Search button again.
Search Results are listed for your query string from the Acrobat Windows Forum.
Retain the list by opening a new Tab in your browser when viewing a result.
Review the Search Tips to learn more about what is available with this particular search engine.
While search engines share many features in common, often they do no process the feature exactly the same.
In sum - rather adequate search of specific forums is available.
We might natter about the user interface but for most queries, the forum search is adequate.
    Be well...

  • Acrobat  windows process locked

    Hello,
We use Acrobat SDK in VB script in order to generate PDF with watermark.
Unfortunately, when the script is executed (with success) the Acrobat windows process stays loaded in memory. ANd so we cannot launch again the process.
I added more and more log information in the script but as today I can not find the error.
    Could you help me?
    Regards,
    Maxim

  • Acrobat window as parent window

How can we use the currently opened acrobat window as the parent for wxWidgets like wxFrame or wxTextCtrl.
I'm developing a plugin using acrobat 11 SDK

Thanks for the response, George. What I'm trying to do here is actually provide an "image gallery" selection tool for users to select an image that resides on the server (i.e. by thumbnail) - and then the corresponding image is updated onto a button icon in the PDF. We already have the image functionality and server-side processes going; the only dilemma is how to present the "gallery" to the user in the PDF itself. The gallery is dynamic and entries are stored in a SQL database (or could be based on file/folder structure) - so obviously adding and maintaining thumbnails in individual PDF documents wouldn't be appropriate.
So basically the popup window would present the image gallery for selection to the user, and them simply return back the selected image ID or similar to the main window/PDF. So the popup would likely be an ASP page that would query the database and build a grid of available images... If I can get back the ID of the selected image from the popup window - I can take it from there in submitting the PDF to the server, grabbing the appropriate image, and sending the FDF back down to the browser with the image as a button icon.
    Thanks again!

  • Open multiple pdf's in one acrobat window

On my new Vista OS, I can't figure out how to set my adobe reader 8 back to where it opens multiple pdfs into one window so you can just click between them rather than multiple windows.

    Hi Richard,
Due to technical limitations, MDI was dropped with the Acrobat 9 release:

  • Acrobat window minimizes to a line

    Acrobat 9 pro MacbookPro.
When I open a PDF on an external monitor, then detatch the monitor and view the file from the laptop screen, the PDF shrinks into a single line like 'l' or to just the top little bar with the three window buttons on my dashboard (see picture) . For files that shrink to just a line, I can't maximize it to read. The whole window is just shrunk down to a short line and is stuck that way. Only solution is to close it from the main dropdown menu and to reopen it. Annoying. Any solution?
    Thanks!

That works for the pdf that still has a bar to click, but for the other one, it's really just a line. Double/triple/ten-ble clicks on that line doesn't do anything

  • Open multiple pdfs in one acrobat window

There are many things annoying about Acrobat, but the one that really gets me is that the option to open multiple pdfs in the same window, rather than splattering them all over the toolbar, apparently has been removed in the latest versions.  I have been using Foxit for pdfs for the past few years and am only now returning to acrobat because we've purchased a piece of software that requires a plugin that works only in acrobat.
Tabs are the proper solution.   How long ago did Firefox shake up the browser community with tabs, 15 years ago?   Where was Acrobat?   For a while, they bodged together a preference that would keep them all in the same window (no tabs however), but even that is gone.

  • Documents open in separate Acrobat Window  Acrobat 9 Pro

When I open multiple documents in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, each opens in a separate window.
In Acrobat 6 Pro, all files opened in the same window, & I could select which was displayed in the 'window' menu, or I could cascade or tile the documents.
Can Acrobat 9 be configured to open multiple documents without opening separate windows for each? If so, can it be easily switched back & forth?
    Thanks in advance,
    Norm

This is the worst thing to happen to acrobat, in my opinion.
The clutter that it creates on my computer and the fact that i cant even see the document title when I have a bunch of them open (because the task bar is too full) is unacceptable.
I never would have changed from Acrobat 8 if I had known, and now I cant switch back (company license).
The latest thing i can find about addressing it is here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405108&sliceId=1
    which was in november 2008....
why hasnt any thing else been done about it?  I just spent 45 minutes being sent to different departments over the phone, only to be told to submit a feature request.
Please do this if you havent already:
