Acrobat 9.0 freezes while "Removing unused objects"

I am using Acrobat Pro 9.0 in a Windows 8.1 environment.  When I attempt to convert a PDF I created to a Form the program freezes once I click SAVE and "Removing unused objects" appears.  I have "repaired" and "reinstalled" the application but the problem persists.

Hi Mike,
I do have some startup items;
EyeTV Helper
AdobeResourcesSynchroni
I Love Stars
GrowlHelperApp
NikePlusUtil
EEvent Manager
EPSON Scanner Monitor
I don't have any haxies on anything.
I made a new user account and tried to replicate the problem but it seems to work fine when logged in as a different user which leads me to think it is a preference in my current user>library

  • Acrobat 6 - Save As - Removing Unused Objects

    When using the "Save As" feature to save from a mapped network drive to the personal drive, documents that are created from a scanned image take a long time to save, and on the progress bar show the message "Removing Unused Objects".  My client is using Acrobat Standard 6, and I am unable to find any type of "PDF Optimizer" as the later versions have.  Is there any way to remove this background processing that Adobe is doing and speed up the network saving?

  • Acrobat 9.3 freezes while scrolling

    I work with a person who keeps track of his work on PDFs by marking them up.  He keeps the document open almost constantly.  As long as the document sits open, Acrobat.exe slowly takes up more and more memory on his computer.  Whenever he scrolls the PDF, if he scrolls by more than a page, Acrobat hangs for a second.  When Acrobat returns to normal, Acrobat.exe's memory usage has jumped by about 20 MB.  If he keeps the document open for more than an hour, the way he typically uses it, Acrobat.exe's memory usage will typically grow to over 150 MB.  I know Acrobat has memory leaks, but I don't recall it normally being that bad.  Is there some setting that can be turned on to fix this?  Acrobat's been removed and reinstalled.
    Acrobat version 9.3.1
    Windows 7 64-bit

    Unfortunately, updating is not an option.  The person cannot update Acrobat because it would violate organizational policy.  He is locked in to Acrobat 9.3.1 for the foreseeable future.  What other options are available?

  • What does "Removing unused objects" mean?

    Why do we continue to get this message when we try to save one specific document?

    This is optimization feature. PDF consist of various objects, some of which you see and others are purely for the PDF processing. Since there are many programs that create PDFs with varying degrees of expertise there maybe objects that are created "just in case needed" but not used. These objects can make the PDF very large so removing them is  beneficial. Sometimes these objects are created or duplicated when PDFs are combined and the embedded type fonts come to mind.

    Have you upgraded your video card say from the Nvidia 7300 to the
    Nvidia 8800 by any chance?
    If so you will not be able to boot from the Disk that came with your
    Mac if you are running a Mac. Not saying this is your problem
    but if it is then you have two choices one is to swap out the cards so
    you have the Nvidia or earlier card version in the Mac or get a more
    current disk which supports the new card.
    if it is not that i would suspect some other upgrade.

  • Need to control rendering resolution when removing overlapping objects in Acrobat X Pro

    When removing hidden information from a PDF using the Acrobat X Pro function Tools | Protection | Remove Hidden Information or Tools | Protection | Sanitize Document, Acrobat appears to remove overlapping objects by rendering the entire page into an image at, from what I can tell, 144 dpi. This resolution is too low for my purposes as small text becomes hard to read both on screen and when printed. Is there a way to control the rendering resolution?

    What I was refering to by flattening is the "flatten image" function in Photoshop. As in the option directly below merge visable and merge down in the layers flyout menu. For some reason running that function or the rasterize function in the object menu in illustrator is the only way I can make sure transparecny boxs dont show up when I print through my Fiery Rip software. Like I mentioned this method works well with individual pages in multiple page pdfs, but I often have to do this for many images at a time. It would be nice to be able to do the same thing in Acrobat to the whole pdf all  at one time.( Of course what would really be nice would be if people would submitt their files correctly to avoid this problem in the first place but that is asking way to much)

  • Removing unused and useless objects

    hi
    as im busying working through my first serious java (and programming) project ive become conscious of the amount of objects im creating and never use again. most of objects are small classes of my own devising or Rectangles... do unused objects sap up performance? ive tried looking for methods to delete objects but i cant seem to find anything particularly relevant, do i simply declare them as null? im aware that its probably my crude coding that creates so many useless objects but i would appreciate somebodies input.
    cheers
    julian

    Hello,
    The only way to delete unused objects is to force the garbage collector ( System.gc() ), but it's a bad method : it generally make your program slower.
    Setting your unused object to null is a good method to help the garbage collector running faster, and processing more objects.
    Hope this help.

  • IDCS6 MACOSX JS: "remove unused layer" script doesn't see masters based on masters

    Hello everybody.
    I have an old script that I have used many times to remove unused layers. Until today I thought it worked well:
    var layers = app.documents[0].layers.everyItem().getElements();
    for(var i=layers.length-1;i>=0;i--){
      if(layers[i].pageItems.length==0){
        layers[i].remove();
    However, today I used the script on a document that had a layer that was only ever used once on a master page that the other master pages were based upon. To my surprise, when the script was run, this specific layer was deleted.
    my scripting knowledge is poor, but looking at the script it looks like the script is looking at all layers that have anything in them, and any layer that has no item is to be deleted. however, I think that pageItems only refers to regular pages or master pages, not masters BASED ON other masters.
    I think the problem is similar to another that I had recently where I had a script that removed unused masters, but removed masters that other masters were based on, and I think the principles are the same. That thread can be found at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5922004#5922004
    in short, the script that worked there was as follows:
    xUnusedMasters(myDoc);
    function xUnusedMasters( docRef ) {
    var mpNames = new Object () ;
    var allPages = docRef.pages ;
    for ( var pIndex = allPages.length - 1 ; pIndex >= 0 ; pIndex-- ) {
    mpNames = addMasterName ( mpNames , allPages[pIndex] ) ;
    var allMasterPages = docRef.masterSpreads ;
    for ( var mpIndex = allMasterPages.length - 1 ; mpIndex >= 0 ; mpIndex-- ) {
    if ( ! mpNames[allMasterPages[mpIndex].name] ) {
    allMasterPages[mpIndex].remove() ;
    return ;
    function addMasterName ( MPDB , pageRef ) {
    if ( pageRef == null ) { return MPDB ; }
    if ( pageRef.constructor.name == 'MasterSpread' ) {
    MPDB[pageRef.name] = true ;
    return addMasterName ( MPDB , pageRef.appliedMaster ) ;
    is it possible to modify the above script so that instead of removing unused master pages, it removes unused layers in a similar fashion?
    Many thanks,
    Colly

    Hi,
    Maybe a little bit different way...:
    Array.prototype.filter = function(collection) {
              var k, i, con, ids = collection.everyItem().id;
              con: for (k = ids.length - 1; k >=0; k--)
                        for (i = 0; i < this.length; i++)
                        if (this[i].id == ids[k]) {
                             ids.splice(k, 1);
                             continue con;
              return ids;     // array with unmatched ids from collection
    var
              mL = app.activeDocument.pageItems.everyItem().itemLayer,
              mUnusedLayersID = mL.filter(app.activeDocument.layers),
              len = mUnusedLayersID.length;
    while (len-->0)
              app.activeDocument.layers.itemByID(mUnusedLayersID[len]).remove();
    mL is an array with each pageItem's layer;
    filter compares it to doc.layers collections;
    unmatched means unused so are removed.

    calls removeCdForTitle(), so nothing is ever removed.

  • MSI P35 Neo-F (MS-7360): Computer randomly freezes while playing games

    Hi there,
    I have reached the end of my technical knowledge right now and I'm not even sure if this area of the forum is appropriate. The problem:
    While playing higher-end games like Crysis 2, Anno 1404, Mass Effect 2 etc. my computer randomly freezes and the last few milliseconds of sound are being looped on my speakers (kind of like a buzzing sound).
    By "freezing" I mean that my computer becomes unresponsive to any action other than pressing the Reset-Button or holding down the Power-Up-Button (no reaction to Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, no mouse movement... you get it).
    There's no exact timing as to when these freezes occur. The fastest freeze happened after less than a minute of playing a game, slowes one (just today after switching to my newer case with better cooling) took about 2 hours.
    This freeze only occurs while my System is under load. No freezes while browsing the web, using office programs, listening to music or watching videos.
    System Specs:
        Mainboard: MSI P35 Neo-F (MSI-7360)
        CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
        RAM: 4x 1GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS2
        Graphics: Gainward GeForce GTX 560 Ti, 1GB GDDR5 VRAM
        PSU: Antec High Current Gamer 620W (upgraded from Xilence XP600, 600W)
        New CPU Cooler: Arctic Freezer 13 Pro (upgraded from OEM Intel Boxed Cooler)
        New Case: Zalman Z9 Plus w/ 4x 120 mm Fans (Upgraded from a Case with only 1x 250mm side Fan)
        2 Western Digital HDD (1x 2TB, 1x320 GB)
        1 DVD Reader/Burner (unimportant for that error I guess)
        OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
        2 Screens: 1x 24" Asus VS248H and 1x 21" LG Flatron Wide W2240T
    Since this error is bugging me for quite a while now and since this is not the first forum I'm trying to get help from, here's a list of steps i already took to get rid of it, obviously to no good use:
        reinstalled games where the freeze occurred
        updated all Drivers (including cleaning old versions in safe mode; also tried older drivers)
        updated BIOS to v1.A0
        Reinstalled Windows
        bought new Case and CPU Cooler to improve Air Flow/Cooling
        checked Seating of all components (took out, cleaned, reapplied thermal grease where neccessary, re-inserted)
        cleaned old case of dust (obviously no problem in the new case, which is 2 days "old")
        ran 7 sequences of Memtes86+ without any errors
        ran Prime95 without any errors for about 45 Minutes
        ran Furmark for 15 Minutes under full load (burn-in test) without any problems, even though my graphics card hit the 100°C frequency-cut level
        ran Furmark and Prime95 simultaneously without any problems
        took records of component temperatures and system voltages without noticing anything unusual (at least not after i switched to the newer PSU, which is about 1 Month old - yet didn't resolve the problem)
        tested with cyclic removal of 1 RAM device to further rule out RAM malfunction
        tested with only 2 RAM devices in dual channel mode (Slots 1 and 3)
        tried to reduce RAM clock (800 MHz --> 667 MHz) to no avail
        checked S.M.A.R.T. values of HDDs, no issues reported
        tested without any background programs
        raised/lowered voltages to RAM, CPU and Chipset in BIOS to increase logic circuit stability/decrease heat production
    I need to mention: After I transferred my system to the new case, i was able to play longer than average compared to my old case. So I am guessing that improper cooling was part of the problem, yet improving cooling obviously didn't resolve it.
    Since these freezes are really annoying and nobody could help me resolve this so far, I'm hoping to find some new ways of narrowing down the problem or even getting rid of it here.

    Lets be realistic. A system with a 560TI is recommended to have a around 31Amps under full load, a CX500 would be sufficient.
    Have you monitored your CPU and memory utilisation ?
    As suggested before, test the GPU in another computer to see if the behaviour is the same.
    Whew, I thought for a second there that my common sense had left me when I saw that 60-Amp-Post ^^
    Yes, I monitored CPU and RAM usage, there is no recognizeable pattern to be seen and it almost never happens under full load.
    I will see if a friend of mine can test my GPU on his computer, and I will test it underclocked right away.
    Though one more question regarding that: Should I only underclock GPU Core Clock or both Core and RAM clock?

  • New MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard 10.6) Freezes while playing Portal, WOW, etc,

    I have the new macbook pro that came out February 2011 with Mac OS-X 10.6, and I have encountered multiple problems with the computer running sluggish and freezing up in some applications. For example while playing Portal, the computer will get extremely hot and everything will freeze while the fan slows down, then it will come back, and about 5 minutes later it does it again. Same thing happens with WOW and I'm sure with many other applications. Even will run slow while watching tv on Netflix. It's ridiculous and unacceptable. Is there a news release with a factory defect or an update available to fix this overheating problem? Thanks

    Is there a news release with a factory defect
    Not that I am aware of. Check Google or call Apple Care as you are still under warranty.
    or an update available to fix this overheating problem?
    User Tip: How to deal with MacBook Pro and MacBook heat?
    Per your user manual: Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings.
    From MacBook Pro: Care, Use, and Safety Information
    For prolonged use, place your MacBook Pro on a flat, stable surface. Do not place your MacBook Pro on your lap or other body surface for extended periods of time. Prolonged body contact can cause discomfort and potentially a burn.
    with Mac OS-X 10.6
    Use Software Update to update your os to 10.6.7 or you can go to Apple's download website to install the combo update. Also, update everything that is listed in Software Update that pertains to your computer.
    Check WOW's website for updates or contact their customer service department and forums.

  • Trim Whitespace.vi - remove unused polymorphic VI instances

    Hello All
    From some time while building the exe file I have started to receive the error:
    Error 1073 occurred at E:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\vi.lib\Utility\error.llb\Trim Whitespace.vi
    Possible reason(s):
    Application Builder: Unable to disconnect type definitions and remove unused polymorphic VI instances for this application. Deselect this option on the Application Settings tab and build the application again.
    It did not happen before. Of course I can leave all polymorphic vis in my application, but why I started to get this error? It never happened before. Especially that the Trim Whitespace.vi is not a polymirfic vi.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance.
    Pawel

    Hi Mohadjer
    Demn.... I remember now. I started to get this error when I saved my vi (for other purposes) with removed diagrams. Probably it removed it also from the vi.lib vis. Wow.... Now I am having problems, how many vis I have destroyed when this happened.
    Anyways, thanks a lot for this. At least I know what I have done .
    regards
    Pawel
