  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

  • Can I set Acrobat X to auto run OCR upon opening a new PDF?

I want to set up Acrobat X to automatically run OCR text recognition when I open a new PDF that was sent to me via email.  I accidentally clicked the "do not show me this again" box when it would auto prompt to run upon opening.  I was thinking that if I checked "do not show me this again" it would remember my choices and automatically run it each time.

Maybe... under Acrobat Preferences, General section there is a Reset All Warnings button.

  • Running OCR on Combined document saves no text to .txt file

I am scanning in a large 500 page document, running OCR on it and saving the data to a text file for my program to process.
My network printer/copier/scanner can only read in about 70 pages at a time, so I scanned in as several PDF documents, which I saved to disk.
I   Recognize Text in Multiple Files using OCR...   on all of the PDF documents, Saving-As Text (Accessable) and it all works fine. I can then combine the text files in a text processor.
Then, I saw the Combine button, so I combined all of the PDF documents into a separate PDF file and ran OCR on it, but the resulting .txt file is blank!  If I run the OCR manually, I can highlight the extract text, but when I try to save as Text (Accessable), it still fails to save any data to the .txt file.
    Is this a known problem?
I am running Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - Version 9.4.5.
    Thanks.

    gilgad2000,
It depends on your VI. If you are using the "Path Control" tool, you can open its "Browse Options" and write .txt at the Pattern box.
If you are not using it, you can also concatenate a ".txt" string at the end of the file path (use "Strip Path", "Concatenate Strings" and "Build Path" functions) just before using it on the saving function.

Hi. I am running Windows 8.1 on a  64 bit Toshiba Satellite P70-A laptop with 16Gb of RAM. I have installed Adobe Creative Suite 6 - Master Collection. All is fine except for Adobe Acrobat X. It runs OK  for a while, but then suddenly it won't work. I uninstall it, re-boot and re-install again, bit the same process repeats itself and once again I have to uninstall and re-install again. I don't know if windows update interferes with it? Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is it fixable?

I think you'd be much better off asking in the Acrobar forum, Acrobat

when opening a pdf link on a web poage the process stalls and there is a message that Adobe acrobat reader is running. To the best of my knowledge I do not have the Acrobat reader. To the best of my knowledge I have deleted the reader program. I have an older version of Acrobat Pro. The problem occurred before I did the deletion and continues since then.

I have two computers - iMac and PC.  What is the EARLIEST version of Acrobat I can run on each system.  I am running 10.9.2 on iMac and Windows 8 on PC.  Thanks.

Adobe currently supports Acrobat X and Acrobat XI for Mac and Windows platforms. More details about base system requirements can be found here: Tech specs | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and the changes to these requirements with the product updates can be found here : Overview — Acrobat and Adobe Reader Release Notes. So the earliest version would be Acrobat X and the Latest would be Acrobat XI.
Please let us know if that answers your query.

  • Will Acrobat 9 Pro run using Windows 7?

Will Acrobat 9 Pro run using Windows 7?

This machine is Win7, 32-bit, and AA 9 has run on it from day one. Folks have even reported AA 8 running on both 32 and 64-bit versions of Win7, though there were some issues with the 64-bit version. Win7 is not one of the certified versions for AA 9, but I suspect you would have no problems. Win8.1 might be a different story. It sounds like you are considering upgrading your machine. I can not say without question you will have no problems, but my guess is that it will work fine. It would be a good idea to consider upgrading if you have a chance and the cash.

  • Acrobat XI wont run.

I installed Acrobat XI as part of my CreativeCloud account. When I tried to run it, it froze on a blank license agreement pop-up. I retried several times with the same results. I used the uninstaller in the Acrobat XI Pro folder to remove it. I want to re-download, but the Adobe Application Manager says it is still installed.
    What now?

Do two things to be able to install again.:
On Mac make sure you run the correct uninstaller, use the Adobe Acrobat XI Pro uninstaller link at Application > Utilities > Adobe Installers. On Windows uninstall from the Control Panel.
Download and run the Adobe Cleaner Tool to remove any traces of Acrobat http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html.
You should now be able to install from the Adobe Application Manager (AAM).
For Acrobat, the blank EULA screen is a known issue:
Fix described here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/known-issues-acrobat-xi-reader.html (see Blank EULA screen)
"Blank EULA screen. Problem: Mac OS only. On launch, a blank EULA screen appears, which cannot be accepted, and Acrobat does not run. This problem can appear if you have any products installed from CCM or from Creative Suite, and you tried installing Acrobat XI from a different source.
Workaround: Launch any other product which is part of the CCM or Creative suite. Then, deactivate it by choosing Help > Deactivate. Quit the application. Then, launch Acrobat and accept the EULA. Then, for the CCM subscription product, launch it and select License This Software to enable the CCM product again. If a CS application, launch it and reactivate it. [3338419]"

  • What is the newest version of Adobe Acrobat Standard that runs on Windows XP SP3? I currently have Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0.0. Thanks!

What is the newest version of Adobe Acrobat Standard that runs on Windows XP SP3? I currently have Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0.0. Thanks!

The current updates 10.1.13 and 11.0.10 no longer support Windows XP SP3.  The last versions to test were 10.1.10 and 11.0.3 I think.   But I wouldn't recommend using those because of the Security Updates in between those versions and the current updates.  Microsoft doesn't even support Windows XP SP3 any longer. I would say to try updating both the OS and the applications.

I am having trouble installing acrobat when I run the file, it comes up with a script error

    Hi Pat
Thanks for your email.  I was able to download and install this morning without any problems.  I uninstalled the old version yesterday and restarted my computer but still got errors.  However when I turned off last night, windows ran updates and that must of fixed the problem.  I also got rid of firefox and put of google chrome.  All to use Australia Posts click and send which wouldn't work because of an error with the plugin.  Thanks for your very quick reply, I appreciate your help.  Have a great day.  Best Regards Judy (moo2u2)

  • Cannot create object if Acrobat is already running

Hello! Recently I had to update an old VB6 application that was working well with Acrobat 5 (full version, not the Reader) to use Acrobat 9, because Acrobat 5 is not compatible with Windows 7. I have downloaded the SDK and with a minimal modification the application works fine, but there is one annoying problem which I am quite sure did not exist before. If for some reason Acrobat is already running when my application tries to create the AcroApp object, I first get the error "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found." followed by "Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object".
The problem occurs on the line "Set acrApp = New AcroApp". This happens if either the full version of Acrobat or Acrobat Reader are running, even if no PDF file is open. Is it possible to avoid this error? The best I can do now is to check for the Acrobat's window and if it's open, to display a message to the users asking them to close it, but it's not very user-friendly :-) Thanks in advance for any hints you can give me!

*BUMP* Has anyone figured this out? I have this same issue, however I really need to instantiate an AcroApp object while Acrobat Pro is open, so that I can close all of the open documents that the user may have opened manually.
When I run this line of code:
    Dim appAcrobat As New Acrobat.AcroApp
I'm getting this message in Acrobat:
There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found.
Followed by an error in my VB.NET code that says:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {85DE1C45-2C66-101B-B02E-04021C009402} failed due to the following error: 80080005 Server execution failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80080005 (CO_E_SERVER_EXEC_FAILURE)).
    I am using VB.NET 2010, Acrobat 9 PRO 9.4.6, and I guess it's version 1.1.0.0 of Interop.Acrobat.dll

  • Acrobat X freezes on OCR during "recognizing text" step

Acrobat X standard freezes every time I try to OCR a document - it starts through the process but when it gets to the "recognizing text" stage it just freezes - wondows says program not responding.

We did test along with the end user that reported the issue, and we both saw the same performance drop with prior scanned documents and new ones. Its also the same for whether the PDFs are saved locally to the TS or a share folder on different server.
Whats really frustrating is that one Adobe phone tech agreed with me that OCR was running too slow when I had them remote into the server. That tech escalated the issue to "senior support" which never followed up with us. After days of waiting I called back and was told it was working "normally" and that the PDFs themselves were the issue. But again with the same files completing OCR 30% faster on a different server makes me want to call "bluff" on Adobe support. I'm just not sure of another way to isolate the issue.
