Acrobat 9.1 crashes on selecting text

Happens consistently, though not in a precisely reproducible manner, either with the text selection tool or the highliter tool. Gives the uninformative "Acrobat has caused an error..." message box though, strangely, the version reported in that core dump is 9.1.0.163 (is this a clue?).
I don't know if this is a related issue, but text typing in either forms or comment pop-ups is incredibly slow, and sometimes incomplete (e.g., you type a 7-digit phone number but only see the first 3 digits).
Any suggestions as to cause(s), or how to fix, would be much appreciated. What used to be a rock-stable product is now driving me crazy!

InDesign CC crashes when selecting text

Hello folks!
I have a serious issue here on my Windows 7 64bit notebook:
InDesign CC (and also CS6 before) keep crashing when selecting text.
I was still on CS6 when this failure appeared first. The strange thing is, it happens not always. When InDesign is opened new it will not crash instantly (most times). After some selecting random text a few times InDesign will crash with the well known "InDesign doesn't work anymore" message. There seems no pattern while selecting text (like special characters, certain fonts, whatever).
Tried to use CC – no luck! still crashing.
After some research in the forum I read, that this is very rare issue only occuring if there are more than 1 Windows accounts with both InDesign running. Indeed I made new account shortly before the first time this happened.
But sadly even after I completely wiped the second account, all my InDesigns (CS5, CS6, CC), all prefs, and also all fonts (as recommend in a thread with people havong trouble with just the type-tool itself) and all registry thingies the problem remains. Why?
Please help, it really kills the productivity.

The font issue is also equally probable. As already mentioned: The interesting aspect here is, that both InDesign CS6 and CC will crash. It happened the first time when Windows decided to blue screen and f*** up my account (I wasn't able to log in anymore, I had to made a new one). I once read in another thread that there is a problem occuring when having multiple Windows accounts with InDesign running. Re-installing InDesign didn't help. Font problem after all?

CS5 InDesign crashing when selecting text

I get this crash when I select text, and then select more text. It takes a usually 3–5 times, but it crashes. I've tried uninstalling fonts and I've tried with brand new documents using system fonts. Any suggestions?

.. in which case I could run a cursory check. At the very least I will be able tell whether the file is physically damaged (missing parts of the file), or if it's internally damaged (a bad code in an otherwise good file).

Flash CS 5.5 Crashes when selecting Text Tool

Need some help here. Trying to work on a project for class and everytime I select the text tool (menu bar/tool bar/keyboard shortcut) it crashes...I have tried using both purchased product and trial version. Getting no help from support when I chat or call in. If anyone has had this problem can you throw some help me way??

Indesign crashes when select Text tool

Hi,
Since this morning I've a problem with InDesign CC. Every time I try to select the Text tool, InDesign crash, even with new file.
During a period it was also impossible to only start InDesign. But I've clear my cache and it works again, but the text tool crash remain.

When I've tried to restart my mac with safe boot, it was OK but no in "normal" mode.

BTW, there is a newer version of InDesign as well, InDesign CC2014. Since you’re running Mavericks it should be available to you.

Selecting Text from Preview

well, actually selecting text is not the problem, it's the pasting of the selected text.
Let me explain.
I've got a friend who is blind. He is a music-teacher and I help him out, creating playlists in iTunes. Since he is not able to read pdf-files in Braille, I used to preview the playlist, select all text, copy and paste it in a Text-file.
I did have this little trick of find & replace, that I used to add a Return to the end of a line, so he would get a readable list.
Since I bought my new Mac, it did came with *Preview 5*, which works just the way Acrobat does. When I select text, it is selected in Columns, when I paste it, I get all information of column 1, followed by all information in column 2, a.s.o.
Does anybody know a workable solution? Is it possible to install an older version of Preview (*Preview 2.1.0* worked fine) next to the newer one?

Acrobat is the solution indeed. I can save the lists as pdf, open in Acrobat Reader & select the text like I used to in Preview.
(Which, by the way is strange, it never was possible this way in Acrobat.... That's why I was so happy with the old Preview.

Acrobat is generating pdfs in which text can't be selected

My first thought was that the ability to prevent copying of text was enabled. I looked at the security settings and that setting wasn't checked. I used a pdf cracker to remove the security settings and still could not copy text. I used the pdf cracker to remove the security settings from protected document that wasn’t generate by my software and it worked: I could copy text. I concluded this is not a security setting issue.
I noticed selecting text only creates "box" selection as if it isn't identifying the letters as text.
Anyone have any ideas?

Adobe Acrobat. Change "Copy selected text into Highlight, Cross-Out, ..." also for highlights made before changing the setting

I am looking for a solution to apply the "Copy selected text into Highlight, Cross-Out, and Underline comment pop-ups" setting to highlights that I made before I changed this setting.
Someone wrote a batch for this which costs 60 dollar and this seems to do what I am looking for: Custom-made Adobe Scripts: Acrobat -- Retroactively Copy Highlighted Text into Comments
Where can I find Adobe's solution for this problem? I do not want to buy external batches for a professional software suit.
I expect that this is a common problem for people who start to organize a large literature base with many pdfs and must keep track of highlighted text. I was not previously aware of the "Copy selected..."setting, but I need to change it now for all my pdf files to make them compatible with a reference manager that I want to use. New comments are now compatible, but the hundreds(!) of pdfs that I worked through before are not, so copy pasting the highlighted text into comments is not an option.

Selecting Text in Acrobat 9 Pro

Hello, we have just discovered that
in some documents that I have converted from Word into a PDF are having problems with selecting text. When we go to select text,
rather than just selecting the text I am highlighting, it is only selecting portions as though they are in columns. I went back to the original Word document and cleared all the formatting (there are no columns in this document...it's just paragraphs), then formated the text size and style and saved it to a PDF, but am still having the same problem. I have checked older PDF documents which started out the same way in Word, and some have this problem, but some work fine and let me select only a few words or sentences at a time. But the rest are trying to select words above and below the text I am trying to select. Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to look at the "touch up reading order" in advanced, accessibility options. The document will be tagged and you will see the structure of the page. I suspect that it has formatted the text into columns - you can use this tool to clear the page structure and reformat to make the whole page just text reading from left to right.

Acrobat 9: Control over font in text box

Versions: OS X 10.8.5 with Acrobat Pro 9, latest patch.
I am experimentally preparing a four day training course by adding my instructor information to a PDF of the slide show. There are only 850 slides, so it makes sense to experiment with this small document.
All is going well. I have created some custom stamps. Acrobat has only crashed twice, losing not more than two hours work as a result. I am optimistic I will be good to go in 10 more days.
I have just copied some test into a text box and it copied as black and blue text with a larger font than the standard red font that I have been seeing until now.
It occurs to me that this implies there may be some control over the text. I realize that Acrobat is not meant to be a document preparation tool, so I hunted around somewhat for a way to change the text box text to not-red, gave up and I have been putting up with it until now.
However, there are implications (but no clearly stated solutions) that there is a way to change the font, size and colour of text in text boxes.
Do you know how? I cannot work it out, nor can I find a solutoin. I can see that the Commenting preference pane offers Small Medium and Large text. There does not seem to be any other control other than the style (italic, bold, superscript, subscript) that is offered in the context menu.
Hints? Thoughts?

Thanks again. If offers a dropdown for Colour, a box for style (plain, bold italic etc) and a button marked more, but they seem to do nothing at all. They don't change what I type, and they don't affect selected text. Looks to me tha they just take up some toolbar space.
Is it possible that it does not work on Mac?

Adobe Acrobat X Pro crashes in 30 seconds

Hello everybody,
I've got Acrobat X Pro 10.1.1 installed on my PC running Windows 7 64-bit (Corei7 2600K, 16GB DDR3. I got the Creative Suite 5 Master Collection and Acrobat X separately and installed them one after the other on the same day. A problem I've just noticed for the first time cropped up about a week ago. I normally used to have Adobe Reader as my default program to open and view PDF files, but recently when I tried to open PDF files in Acrobat for the first time since installation, the program crashes. The program will start up perfectly and display the PDF correctly, but after about 30 seconds, every time I've tried, with different PDF's from different sources and different sizes and versions, Acrobat X always crashes. I can use the program fully within those 30 seconds, for example, resizing the image, selecting text, finding text in a document, etc. all works perfectly, but every single time the Acrobat X Pro opens, it crashes after 30 seconds with the usual Windows 7 Program Crash dialogue box that reads:
"Adobe Acrobat has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
The only option the dialogue box gives is to Quit, so I click that and it closes the program fully but nothing else happens. Now Adobe Reader still works fine so I've had to revert to that to view all my PDF files, but I can't edit or properly interact with them.
I understand that this post is somewhat vague because I have no error code or anything to identify what is happening. If there is a way to obtain this information, and if said information might help anybody reading this to assist me in repairing the issue, please let me know what to do.
If some crash log isn't required but somebody has come across a similar issue or heard of anything like this, I would be much obliged to hear possible causes or solutions to the problem.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Worked for me!
Here it is:
Use the control panel to uninstall Acrobat
In Windows Explorer, ensure that all of the Acrobat files are deleted by going to c:\program files\adobe\acrobat\ folder. Trash any leftover folders.
Using the control panel, create another user account giving it administrator priviledges and use this account to reinstall Adobe Acrobat from the installation CD. (Careful you don't reinstall all the software or you could be waiting a long time).
Hope it works for you, too.

Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software. I use Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 to assist me when I add comments to a PDF. I also use it when making additions or changes to text. When I use the two software programs together, Acrobat constantly crashes. If it doesn't crash, an error occurs trying to save the file. I entered 988 comments into a 158-pg PDF, only to find the file was corrupted and couldn't be printed. I also could not see the list of comments (click Show Comments).
These problems do not occur if I don't use both products simultaneously.

Never overwrite a clip that is used in Pr. Give the
modified/corrected/updated clip a new name and import that into your Pr
project. Then Alt+Drag the new clip on top of the old clip in the
timeline to replace the clip instance.
If import-then-drag isn't your style, then right-clicking the original
clip in the Project panel and selecting Replace Footage will accomplish
the same thing.
This important rule applies in Encore as well.

Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.4.63 (running on W7 Pro + SP1, 64-bit) has suddenly begun to crash when moving text fields in forms. I am now unable to add or edit any text in text fields of any PDF form. No updates, installations or system changes were made prior to, or at the onset of, this issue
I have attempted: Disable antivirus; use safe mode; repair install; remove faulting plugin from reference path and repair install; uninstall + CClean registry + full reinstall; and full reinstall without any updates. Acrobat software is unusable in its current state. I would appreciate some help!

How can I make a fillable table that allows me to select text in bulk yet retains tab over ability?

I'm working on a form in livecycle and am trying to make a form which is easy for my client to fill out and easy for me to extract the data from.
Basically I am desiging a form that my clent fills out by entering data into 4 X 3 table (four rows, three columns). In this form they will put names in the first column, countries in the second column, and account numbers in the third coloumn.
While this is not too hard to do, what I would really like to do is make it so that when I extract this data from the form I can easily select all the names in the first column at once, all the countries listed in column two at once, and then the same for column three. I'm placing this data into a word file for use in a mail merge table, so it just streamlines it all if I can highlight everything in one column at once rather than having to select every name/country/account number separately. (And before I get criticized for being lazy, haha, I will be duplicating this 4X3 table at least 7-8 times, as each table will have information specific to other criteria in the form.)
I've realized that Adobe doesn't seem to let me bulk select text in multiple text boxes, yet because I'm working with a table I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing that would allow me to do this, or perhaps there's even another better way to do this job.

You may have already gotten an answer for this since it was a bit ago, but if you have Adobe Acrobat Pro you can save all of your forms you collect into one folder, saved with individual file names so they will not over-write one another and then in Acrobat click Forms>Manage Form Data>Merge Data Files into Spreadsheets. It walks you through it from there and you can Select All of your saved files and it will generate the spreadsheet for you and you can do what you wish in Excel. Hope this helps!
