Acrobat 9.4.2 digital ID issues

I've been using Acrobat Pro 9 for a while and occasionally use the digital ID function to place a digital signature on documents. I set this up months ago and have used it numerous times. I upgraded to 9.4.2 recently, and now I cannot access my digital ID. Acrobat does not recognize the password and gives me a key generation error - internal cryptographic library error (error code: 0x2718) when I try to create a new digital ID.
I cannot say for sure that this is an issue with the update since I do not use the digital ID for signatures that often, but I do know that it was working fine before the update.
In the past when I click "Sign" and "Sign Document", I'm taken immediately to the "Sign Document" window where I enter my password and can lock the document after signing. However, now when I follow the same process, I'm taken to the "Add Digital ID" window. It's almost like Acrobat doesn't recognize my digital ID any more.
Another interesting feature of this issue is that when I click Advanced->Security Settings and then click Digital IDs, nothing comes up, but the Personal Information Exchange file containing my digital ID is in the same place that it always has been.
Any help on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm running Windows XP, and I tried to remove the update, but in Add/Remove Programs, it says that the 9.4.2 update cannot be removed.

  • Acrobat 9 and Validating Digital Signatures

I'd heard that Acrobat 9 had found a way to eliminate the problem of sending your certificate to everyone who needs to validate your signature on a form, but I haven't been able to prove that. I'm testing 9 and so far the only difference I see is that instead of seeing an icon next to the signature stating that it can't be validated, it now states it in a bar across the top of the document. Has anyone else found something different?
    Thanks!
    Anita

For a signature to be considered valid, there must be a "trust" relationship between the validator and the signer. So if I sign a document and claim to be be "Bill Clinton", the signature doesn't show as valid unless you've established that I really signed the document using Bill Clinton's credentials. Public key cryptography provides this assurance by signing using a private key and publishing a public key that can be used to verify that the real private key was used. But you have to have that public key, and that is what is distributed and "trusted" within Acrobat or Reader.
In Acrobat 8, there are basically 2 ways to get that trust relationship: 1) Exchanging certificates with people you trust or 2) purchasing a certificate from an Adobe partner that sells pre-vetted and trusted certificates (where you have to do some work to prove you are who you say you are). These certificates have a trust relationship pre-built into Acrobat so you don't have to set up trust.
In Acrobat 9 there are 2 new mechanisms for establishing trust, but they facilitate, but not eliminate the need to establish trust.
First, you can create a security settings file which includes trust relationships and distribute it to your group either in an ad-hoc way (email, etc.) or by posting on a server and having Acrobat or Reader automatically load the settings. This makes it easier to set up signature workflows in a small group or enterprise environment.
Second, there is a new way for establishing large scale trust for digital identities issued by large organizations such as government agencies or countries where these will also have trust automatically managed by Acrobat and Reader.
The new features are described in http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/sharing_security_settings_90.pdf

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro and digital signature

cannot use and register my digital signature in Adobe Acrobat 8 for Mac. I managed to use it under Windows, by the way.
The Siemens HiPath SIM card uses OpenSC SCA http://www.opensc-project.org/sca
It's on USB token, using built-in Mac OS X driver.
I works fine in Keychain, Mail, Firefox, but not in Safari and Adobe Acrobat.
In Acrobat -> Sign -> Place Signature -> Browse for newly inserted hardware tokens
and then nothing happens, cannot find the inserted token, although Keychain finds it.
Acrobat -> Security Settings -> Add Digital IDs -> Browse for newly inserted hardware tokens
    and then nothing happens
Acrobat -> Security Settings -> Add Digital IDs -> PKCS#11 Modules and Tokens -> Attach Module -> Locate a PKCS#11 Module
    I put the line
    /Library/OpenSC/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so
which is the installed OpenSC SCA PKCS#11 Module and a massage appears:
    Cannot load PKCS#11 Module
Is it possible to use digital signature in Acrobat at all?

  • Opening PDF's in Illustrator - Digital signature Issue

Having an Issue with Digital signatures...
Currently we are opening up PDF's into Illustrator and changing some art,  the Digital signature is not showing but its appearing again when the file is made back into a PDF.
Would like the Digital Signature removed but can't do it from Illustrator as its not appearing.
Its not my signature so I can't remove it the normal way by just clearing it from Acrobat???
    Any suggestions anyone???

You could open the pdf, in a text editor and remove the code for the signature. Problem with that is the code is hard to find what to delete, as it is not in postscript section, but all scrambled letters(hexadecimal or something like that).
Open the pdf in illustrator, copy all , and paste into a new document, and your signature will be gone.

  • Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 Printing issue

I support our prepress area that is using Acrobat to output files. They are totally put out with Acrobat 8 at this point and nearly refuse to use it. Acrobat 7 Pro makes them very happy.
The biggest issue - reported on 3 different MacPros running 10.4.11 - the erratic behavior of the print dialog box. The advanced option in missing about half the time. (their words) They claim to open a document for print and there is no advanced option button. Quit Acrobat, and sometimes it is there again, sometimes they have to restart Acrobat again, sometimes restart the Mac, sometimes it just won't reappear. They then, out of frustration, open the document in 7, print it, then just for giggles, try it in 8 and viola, there the advanced option is. We can't make it do this on demand.
We have rebuilt machines from the ground up. We have reinstalled and updated Acrobat to 8.1.2. We have the latest print drivers. (IKON)
Anyone else seen this type of behavior?

I work at a sign company and use Quark to create files (mostly text, some graphics) of all shapes and sizes, from a few inches square to several feet. I then RIP to emulsion film to produce positive & negative images for our silk screeners to burn in. The film I use is 28 inches wide and 200 feet long. My question regards film waste. Is there a way to batch/nest differing Quark file types next to each other across the spread (turning them landscape or portrait as necessary) to fill unused gaps in the film???? Often I can use the spreads feature in Quark, but just as often I only have one file/page to print, accompanied by a lot of waste. Giving up Quark and my Mac environment is not an option. I was told Acrobat might have a program for nesting Quark files after they're converted to PDFs. Would this entail new RIP software?---or is there some plug-in attachment that might work? Currently, my RIP software is on a PC-based platform and accepts Mac-Quark files as such.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro: Printing Preferences display issue

    Hi everyone,
A user reported an issue with the PDF Printer Preferences drop-down menus running outside the window and that there should be more checkboxes below the three that are showing (see screenshots).
Here is a screenshot of this same window on a coworker's machine (same version of Adobe and Windows).
We are using Windows XP SP3. Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (version 9.3.1), and current video driver. The resolution is currently set to max, but I tried a few other resolutions but they made no difference on how the PDF Printing Preferences displayed. I've tried repairing, uninstalling, restarting, and then reinstalling but none have done the trick yet. I also have checked the DPI settings and it is set to Normal.
If you have any advise, please let me know.
    Thanks!

    SOLUTION:
The issue was somehow related to DPI (START > Settings > Control Pannel > Display > Settings Tab > Advanced button). Eventhough the DPI was set to normal, I switched it to LARGE, restarted the machine, logged in after the reboot, changed it back to normal size, restarted again, logged in once more, checked the Printer Preferences and PRESTO --- a properly displayed window.

  • Acrobat 7 Pro - Comment Summary Font Issue

We have a situation involving font usage in comments in Acrobat 7 Pro that I hope someone can shed some light on. It will be some time before we can move to version 8 or 9, so the problem is important to us.
Here's the symptom, then I have a few basic background questions. The text in a Note comment includes a 'less than or equal to' symbol which appears correctly. The problem comes when the comments are summarized to a PDF file or printed. The 'equal to' portion has now disappeared! I first thought that this might be a font issue, but now am unsure.
    My basic questions are:
What font is Acrobat using when a comment is created? I realize that you can set a preference for which font to use when viewing comments, but apparently not when creating them?
When a comment summary is created to a PDF file, what determines which font is used in the summary? We have seen cases where the resulting PDF has used Arial or Tahoma or SimSun or.........
We have had at least one situation where opening the same Acrobat 7 PDF in Acrobat 8 Pro did not exhibit the problem when summarized there. Was this a known issue that was repaired in Acrobat 8?
Thanks much for any information you can provide.

    Hi David,
This is a known issue with Acrobat on Mac.

  • Acrobat 7.0 professional pdf binders issue

I have adobe acrobat 7.0 professional and this feature
stopped working:: to make a pdf of multiple files, like word docs.

used to do to combine several mixed docments to a PDF binder. I had
my company IT dept reinstall, and I still get errors, to run in
repair mode, then still does not work.
    OS: Windows XP;
    Browser: IE
    Already Tried:
    IT look at and reinstall,

I just answered this question in http://forums.adobe.com/message/4251547#4251547. Basically you should be able to create a PDF (assuming you are not using a 64-bit system and then I have no clue), but not in the automated way you are used to doing. The first step would be to change the printer port for the Adobe PDF printer (assuming the driver got installed) to file. Then when you print or use PDF Maker, it will ask you for the file name. It will create a PS file (may have a prn extension) that you have to open in Distiller to complete the rest of the conversion. A bit of extra work, but workable. You are looking at a Win7 issue that has caused major problems for many software vendors, not just Adobe. The newer versions of Windows seem to ignore a lot of compatibility needs. Don't forget that with VISTA they had to add the help system back in because their own MS Office needed it.

  • Acrobat 9 Standard - Invalid Serial Number Issue

I had Acrobat 9 standard on my machine and after a hard drive crash, I have not been able to re-install the app.  I keep on getting invalid serial number.  Can anyone help?

has anybody found a solution? I'm having the same issue.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 & iPad pdf reader issues

When I create/edit a pdf in Acrobat 5 and then send to my iPad, the pdf will be complete and correct.  When I create/edit the same pdf in Acrobat 9 Pro and send it to my iPad the pdf will be missing any data that I edited and the other text will be garbled.  This occurs when using both iBooks and Pdf Pro Reader by iTech Development to view the pdf file.  Is this an issue with Acrobat or with the pdf readers?  What is done differently in Acrobat 9 that might cause these readers to have issues?

So, it is definitely an embedded fonts issue.  But I'm still rather
confused with solving the issue.  When I use Acrobat 5 on this pdf, it
embeds a substitute font of Times New Roman for the Times Roman font, but when I use Acrobat 9 it is using some substitute font that is getting garbled in the iPad.  I am still playing and testing, but any additional ideas would be greatful.
I also talked to the developer of the PDF Pro Reader and they opened an issue with Apple regarding the fonts being garbled and also let me know that if I open the pdf on a Mac and save it it will look fine on the iPad.  This did work, but is not something I can use as a solution, since we do not have a Mac and are not looking to purchase one just to solve this issue.

  • Acrobat X (performance) and (probably) security issues

    Hello,
I'm new with Acrobat X and there are two main problems:
    1) I have lots of large OCR scanned documents (PDF/A). I(!!) am the owner of the documents! There is no security build in. When I view the security settings (document properties), all actions are allowed, no restrictions. However, when I want to "compress" (optimize) the pdf document, Acrobat X says: not allowed, I should change the security settings. But there is nothing to change ... when I created the documents I have set all security features to off , all things allowed (but in Acrobat-X the document settings, which show that all actions are allowed,  are - on the other hand - not changeable, fields are locked).  What can I do ??
    2) Performance ! When I save large pdf documents (all such OCR scans of pdf/a-type) to another location (hoping that this will "optimize" the file) the saving process (to a local HD and a 8 GB dual ciore machine) takes 1/2 hour or more (not 1/2 minute!!, what I expected ...). As I have hunderts of those files it can takes weeks or even months to re-save all these documents with Acrobat-X. This must be a malfunction !? Or what else could I do ??
    Thanks.

    Hi, thanks. Very helpful !

OK, but these are MY documents: PDF/A was only an option when scanning - but size is a much more important criterium.
Hope, the "performance" topic of my posting is as easy to solve as the pdf/a issue.
    Thanks again.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.2 Print Issues - Windows Crash Error (2 Sided)

Have recently had issueswith our upgrades from 10.1.1 to 10.1.2 in regards to the following:
When printing 2 sided on a Fuji Xerox Firefly C4400 Atheros, application crashes after printing first 4 pages.
Thus, have tried the patch fix that was recommended on cpsid_92870 however this has not fixed the problem.
Have also tried the solution with the duplexing but still same issue, Windows crashes.
Have also tried solution to remove Windows patch KB4332667 and still same issue.
Screen shots will be provided upon request with the errors.
    Currently running:
    Windows XP SP3
    Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.2
Printer Drivers are the latest and over 500 users on network. 485 are working on 10.1.1 which do not have this issue.
Is there any solution or 10.1.3 patch release that will address this issue?
Last Adobe user to work on this was Atul.

Sonal2890, thanks for your inquiry and I will try to provide as much information as possible.
    1. What happens if inspite of using 'Print on both sides', you check Duplex setting from Properties dialog (As you do previously)?
The Adobe Reader X Shuts down and is unable to print and displays a message stating it has incurred a problem. Please note, we are running IE7.
    2. What happens if you print with any other application (Word/notepad)
The documents print fine. IT is only when you print this particular document which is enabled in protected mode and double sided. Have tried the patch and the resolution of unticking the duplex methodology and the issue still persists.
Crash Logs have already been submitted already. Have added the SEnd Error Report that was provided when the error occurs. The PDF stopped printing after page 6 of a 236 page document and provided the error above.

  • Excel 2007 to Acrobat 9 Pro cell fill / font issue

When attempting to convert a workbook from Excel 2007 to a pdf using Acrobat 9 Pro, the cell font color prints slightly lighter than the cell fill color, even when the colors are the same - amber, green or red.  Never had an issue previously until now.  Not visible within the file, only when printing.  Any insight or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your reply Bill@VT.  I am converting using the Acrobat addin in Excel.  I read your e-mail and played with some of the Excel sheets.  The problem seems to arise when I am converting a landscape page that has been reduced to fit on one page whether by percentage or by fit to x pages by x pages.  I have tried various settings and in print preview they all look just fine but once I click the convert but the page size grows.  I am wondering if this is not an Acrobat problem but rather an Excel problem.
