Acrobat 9.4.6 Pro loses italics when printing

Yesterday (9-15-11) I updated Acrobat 9 Pro to version 9.4.6. (The previous version was probably 9.4.5, but I am not sure.) PDFs generated before and after the update that use purchased fonts (Minion, Avenir) no longer print those fonts in italics. Any italicized passages print as unformatted. Before the update there were no problems with printing in italics. The PDFs display the text correctly on the screen. Only when printing does the text become un-italicized.
I installed Adobe Reader 10.1.1. Same result as 9.4.6.
Sending to a different brand printer has the same result.
No problems printing from the word processor (OpenOffice 3.3.0).
Printing from the PDF to a new PDF has the same result. Text is correct on screen but not on paper.
Generating a PDF on this computer and then printing it from a different computer running Reader 10.1.0 has no problems.
What happened? What can I do to fix it. If there is no fix, is it possible to roll back to the previous version?

Engravers Gothic Italic + also  Bold no longer prints out
I use Adobe Pro 9, Word (Office 2003 - SP3) and Windows XP Pro (SP3) and all have been updated in the last 2 weeks. (Updated to Adobe 9.4.6)
Over the years, will all the same software as above, I have used Engraver’s Gothic BT (True Type) font, and especially the italic and bold version of it, in my Company letterheads and logo.
Now, when printing out an old .pdf letterhead document, I find that the Engraver’s Gothic Italic Bold font has been substituted by an odd-looking/unrecognisable font that is not in my Windows font directory, and the normal italic (i.e. not bold) has been straightened back upright.
(It does not look like a different font, but as if the software has straightened out only part of the font, leaving a “bold” shadow italic version in the background).
The old .pdf letterheads look as they always did on the screen, but when they are printed out, something has substituted the unusual Engraver’s Gothic italic font for the unrecognisable one.
A new Word document, converted to .pdf, similarly shows my “usual” Engraver’s Gothic Italic style and font and both look entirely “normal” on the screen, but when printed out as a .pdf, the font is again substituted/replaced by the above unrecognisable font.
(Word still prints out the italic and bold version without problem).
The normal version of Engravers Gothic is not affected in Adobe – only the italic version is substituted – the normal italic is straightened back up and the bold italic is the odd, shadow version.
I have an old laptop that has not been updated in the last 2 weeks and that prints out .pdf’s with the italic version without any problem i.e. it seems that a software update in the last 2 weeks has affected this italic font.
Removing, re-booting, then re-installing the font makes no difference and it is also the same whichever printer I use.
How do I get Adobe to go back and recognise and print out Engraver’s Gothic Italic Bold, as it has done, with hundreds of documents, over the last years?

  • Acrobat 9.5 Pro loses italics when printing

So, a little less than a month ago I spent a couple of weeks tracking down a patch to print italics correctly out of Adobe Pro 9.4.6 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/922/cpsid_92216.html).  Well we're all on 9.5.0 now and it is doing it again.  Could someone please send me a link to a patch to fix it again for 9.5.0 (nikki @ gdaengineers.com?  Is there a reason this patch isn't just automatically part of the update every time?
    Thank You!
    Nikki

Windows 7, Canon iR-ADV C5030/5035 UFRII.  The document prints fine straight out of InDesign CS5.5, but doesn't when saved and/or exported to a PDF.  I don't see a spot to attach a document, but like I said, same exact problem it was having when the patch came out for 9.4.6.
    Thanks!

  • Acrobat 9 Reader and Pro extremely slow when loading.

Machine: Dell Precision T3500 with an Quad Core Intel® Xeon® W3540 2.93GHz, 8M L3, 4.8GT/s Turbo processor with Windows XP Pro 32-bit and 4GB RAM NECC 1066Mhz installed.
When installing, uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling Acrobat 9 Reader and Pro, or Acrobat 9.2 Reader and Pro, and upon opening a PDF double-clicked on opens Acrobat as expected but it would take an incredibly long time to open the PDF. Opening the application and then going to File, Open also recreates the effect. When the PDF opens, you can see vector drawings appear line by line as if running on a really old machine like a Pentium II and having the computer pause like as if it has frozen up until after waiting a minute or two. During that time, Windows XP is unresponsive until after waiting for the PDF file to load. Diffferent varieties of PDF with simple one-page text to complex PDF's with scanned, vector and hundreds of pages of text has both recreated the frozen in time effect. And when scrolling to different pages within a PDF, the scrolling is choppy, jerky, and at times, pauses to have drawings to appear.
In the past, applications behaving erratically in this fashion was traced down to the software incompatible with HyperThreading and multiple processors. Does anyone know if this might be the case with Xeon processor listed above or similar hardware? Has anyone else experience this? Information about a possible issue mentioned above after searching produced no hits both at Adobe or out there.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your input.
Installing only one or the other (Reader vs Pro and either 9 or 9.2) produced no improvement and the same delay.
Disabling malware applications and then uninstalling them one at a time also produced no improvement.
Disabling the HyperThreading feature within the BIOS/CMOS did not help.
The only workaround so far is to launch Adobe Reader or Pro first, go into Task Manager and then "Set Affinity..." and have only one check mark on any CPU from CPU 0 through CPU 7. Then either drag the PDF into the Adobe Reader or Pro, or go to File and then Open to load the PDF. This process was the only way so far to "normally" open and immediately view and scroll the PDF regardless of complexity without delays or freezes.
Has anyone else been able to reproduce the problem and test the workaround on similar hardware?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Score loses formating when printing to pdf in Logic Pro

Logic Pro 9.1.6 shows score ok in page view but when it prints to pdf the formatting goes weird with notes dropping off the stave. How do I fix this so I can print a score?

Michael: I have tested other programs ability to print to Acrobat and also tested ability for other programs to
export to Excel or Word. The only crash is when printing an Acrobat pdf from Morningstar Principia Pro I get a bad crash. The work around is to print to XPS and then convert the XPS file to Acrobat pdf. To get out of the crash which can't be fixed by Windows Task Manager shut down, is to open the printer file and tell the printer to delete the pending print job.

Hi, I have looked on the online help, the printer itself and the print settings but cannot see how to get the printer to collate the pages correctly when printing double sided. At the moment 4 pages print correctly front and back on 2 pieces of paper, however when only 3 pages are needed it will print on page 1, then 3&4 double sided instead of page 1&2 Double sided and a single side on page 3.
Any help would be appreciated. We are an office of 5 people working on Mac OSX 10.7.5. Printer is:

    Hey there Trubbs,
I have a few more steps in mind. Here they are in order I suggest them!
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart your Mac
Re-add the printer and test again
    Hope that does the trick

  • I'm using Acrobat Pro 11. When printing an email to PDF most of the time it cuts off the text on the right margin. Setting look OK and I've moved things around on the email, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. Is there an Adobe setting I'm missi

Like I said above, print to Adobe pdf and it wants to cut off the text on the right margin. I can't see to find a setting that changes this. Any ideas??

OK, so I have now found that this is apparently normal for iTunes, to only accept mpeg 4 movie files, all the searching I did before I must have worded it wrong because I couldn't find anything about this, incredibly. Had been looking for why iTunes won't take all the files it previously did, like if it had been changed, and it hasn't, it's allegedly always taken only mpeg 4 files. Also I had been searching for why iTunes crashes every time I try and add/import anything but mpeg 4 files, and even sometimes with mpeg 4 files. That isn't normal, it's supposed to just do nothing apparently as I've just found out. So for these reasons I didn't find the answer despite my searching all over the web.
So I guess that answers my own question now, but I'm still perplexed as to why I absolutely, definitely, without any doubt, had several hundred movies of a few different video file types loaded, accessible and playable in my iTunes library that everything here claims iTunes never accepted. It apparently shouldn't have been possible for me to have done this, but for probably 10 years it's been this way.
Perhaps since I don't remember adding these files to iTunes anymore recently than maybe 6 or 7 years ago, the iTunes back then did accept all kinds of file types? Or could I have somehow had some video codecs or software that expanded the capability of my movie players like Quicktime Player that unwittingly also allowed iTunes to take those files as well? All I know is somehow it worked! So now my question is how did I have it working before, so that maybe I can make it work again.

  • Acrobat Distiller.app can't be selected when printing to Adobe PDF 9.0

When trying to print a word 2004 doc to Adobe PDF 9.0 ( using the Adobe PDF 9.0 option from the Printer drop-down list within the print dialog box - I have CS4 Design Premium installed including Acrobat Pro 9) I'm asked to locate my copy of Acrobat Distiller in a dialog box. I point it to the correct location. However Acrobat Distiller.app within folder Applications>Acrobat Pro 9 is greyed out and can't be selected. How do I get round this?

Hello lisagig and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I would be inclined to run a repair disk permissions first and if that doesn't help then I would reset your printing system. Note that this will remove all of your current printer queues so if you have a number of network printers in the list it would be handy to make a note of their network queue, which you will see via the Print & Fax > Options & Supplies > General pane shown as URL.
To add the PDF printer queue back, you will need to make the Advanced icon appear in the Add Printer pane. To do this, open Print & Fax and click to Add a printer. Control Click on the current toolbar (next to More Printers will be fine) and select Customize Toolbar. Drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar. Now click the Advanced icon. After a few seconds this pane will become active so you can select the Adobe PDF 8.0 (pdf) in the Type column. Every other column will autofill so leave them as they are except for the Print Using menu, where you will have to open, click 'Select a driver to use' and then type Adobe in the search window. This should show the 'Adobe PDF 3016.102'. Select this and click Add to complete. Now try printing with this new Adobe printer to see if the error has stopped.

  • Why is Acrobat 9.4.4 multiplying file size when printing?

When I print pdfs using Acrobat 9.4.4, the documents increase in size exponentially and take a long time to print.  For example, a one page, 20kb file shows up in the printer queue as >1MB.  The bigger files turn huge and stall the printer.
I have the problem printing to an HP LaserJet 5P and with the HP OfficeJet 4315.  I am printing from a Dell Dimension 4300 running XP and plenty of RAM.
I have gone through all of Adobe's help topics. I've tried printing the file as an image.  I still have the problem.
    thanks,

  • Lose transparency when printing a brochure on publisher

    Hi Guys,
I have designed a brochure for my company in which i have used publisher and have used such designs in which i use fill effects and increase the transparency in order for a picture in the background should show through. on the screen in looks really good
however when i print it i lose the transparency, how can i avoid this?
    any help is appreciated,
    Joe

    Hi
The object uses a transparentcolor for a line or fill. When you print to a PostScript or PCL printer, you may see the object olsing its transparency. You can print the transparency as it appears on
the screen to a color inkjet printer, and the transparency will be displayed correctly when you publish the publication as a Web site or send it as an e-mail message.
For detailed information refer to the article below:

  • Lose connection when printer is turned on

I have recently set up two desktop computers on a wireless network.  One computer is connected to my cable Internet modem which is connected to my router (WRT110).  My other computer utilizes my wireless adapter.  This computer (the wireless one) connects to the Internet fine.  (Actually, the signal is always low or very low, but that's for a separate posting, I suppose.)
I just connected my HP 2575 printer to my wireless computer (haven't even installed the driver yet).  As soon as I turn the printer on, I lose my Internet connection completely on my wireless computer.  My other printer (the hard-wired one) no longer has a printer connected to it.  I hadn't thought about making this printer a network printer, but am willing to do whatever I need to be able to have my wireless computer working with the printer.  Can someone please help me?  Thanks so much.

I think you need to make some changes on your Wireless router, I think that might solve your problem.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
-Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
-Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bits.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Why Acrobat 9.5.5 Pro scrambles PDF text print, OSX.10.2?

As I'm getting ready to meet with City officials I am unable to print my material and the only option I have is to post a question on a forum, this is just wrong. If I was told to buy an update I would, happily, but I have no idea if that would fix the problem. Thanks, Adobe.

    Hi,
This is not happening because of Acrobat update but the reason for this change is that Firefox 19.0 has introduced  its own Javascript PDF viewer.
You can change the settings in browser to use Acrobat plugin for viewing PDF files. Go to Options->Application to chnage the settings, please see attached screenshot for more details.
    Hope this solves your problem.
    Thanks.

  • Officejet Pro L7555 Hangs when printing,windows error msg - APPCRASH,spoolsv.exe

I have an OfficeJet Pro L7555 all in one printer.
I have tried and the same result on 2 different computers.I have reinstalled the entire software on one of the computers - result is still the same.
I just scanned a page to a pdf file and it did that ok.
    What happens is:
    1) i click to print and the job get sent to the printer,it starts to print and somewhere on the first page is halts sometimes with the page partly out of the chute where a completely printed page would land.I just tried to print 1 page and it did not print that page but a page that i was trying to print last night.Last night i switched the Printer off and also pulled the power plug out.
    2) it then usually tries to print the other pages, halts along the way and starts again, and the last time, it did not even print all of the whole page, and i can also get blank pages.
    3) and i get a Windows popup error box that says APPCRASH and the application is spoolsv.exe, i think, and options to find a solution online or to close
The printer is about 2 yrs old and i do not use it very much,so i dont think it is wear and tear and worn out parts, but is there something that needs replacing that is routine? But I am suspecting a memory problem on the printer though. Is this possible?? as it has printed a page that i was trying to print last night and it did it twice instead of printing 2 different pages and i suspect it is having a problem with the memory of what to print.
Thanks for any help in advance

  • Surface pro 3 error when printing to HP printers

I purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 to replace my laptop. I love it except that I can't network it to printers like my old laptop. Since I am stuck using your printer app, it has been a disaster. I get error messages. The app can't find my documents, then I get error messages. Documents will partially print or I will get a message that the printer is offline. Is there a patch or fix for this issue?
    This question was solved.

    Hello @manon1,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are having problems printing from your Surface Pro 3.
    I would like to help.
From what I have learned of the Surface Pro series, is that they run a full version of the windows operating system.
This means that unlike the RT versions, you can install software.
You should be able to install the same software that you would install on a notebook or desktop computer.
This would make it so that you do not need to use the app.

  • Final Cut Pro application quits when print to tape is selected

We have two FCP stations (Intel, 4 GB RAM, DVCPro AJ-D455, timeline is DV/NTSC 720/480, AJA Kona capture card, 10.4.11 OS) Both periodically shut down the application when the print to tape (DV/NTSC analog RGB out)function is started. Tried using with Rosetta check box selected, this seemed to worked initially (a couple of days) but then failed with the same symptoms which cleared when Rosetta was deselected.
Anyone with similar problems or suggestions? The current myth cure is to unplug the firewire Hard drive prior to printing to tape.

You have experienced a 'kernal panic'. Basically there has been either a hardware or software transgression so severe that the system can not contain it or recover from it and so totally shuts down.
Were you able to capture before? Has anything changed?
I didn't know that FCP3 would run under tiger.

  • Unwanted italics when printing

I'm using CS2 in Leopard on an iMac, and printing with a LaserJet P2015. My document uses Times New Roman regular as body text, but prints as italics. My paragraph styles and character styles are all set to regular. It does it as a indd file and also in Inbooklet SE.
My Epson C83 did not do this even after I updated to Leopard.
How do I fix this/work around?

Enable download PPD fonts in the print options.
