Acrobat 9.5.4 - garbled printout

Although it used to work fine, now parts of certain Metastock files printed as PDF files, mostly numbers in columns, are garbled as though they are encoded. I have removed Adobe Lean Print and reinstalled Acrobat 9.5.4 Pro but still have the same problem. These files print O.K. on a hard copy printer. Metastock software tech support says it may be a bad printer driver. What do you think and suggest? Thanks SW

  • PDF and Word export useless!

I made a club newlsetter which looks great on my Mac, but it has to be printed by someone in the Windows world. I used Acrobat Reader to preview the PDF file, but some fonts are not rendered correctly (minor problem) and whole text boxes with advertisements are missing (serious!). Is there a workaround for this problem?
I tried exporting the document in Word format, but there is hardly any resemblance between my doc and the Word version! This export feature is not ready for prime time.

I think you haven't undertood the problem with the PDF export: the PDFs produced in Pages are beauiful when viewed in Preview. But in Acrobat Reader they are garbled badly. Since Preview is not available on Windows machines that means only I and my Apple colleagues can appreciate (or print) the creations I have made in Pages.
I thought PDF was a platform-independent page description language. So why are the presentaions in Acrobat and Preview so different? Is Apple using non-standard PDF features?

  • Intel iMac + USB Printer

    Hi,
My HP Deskjet 845c Printer no longer works with my new intel iMac.
(previously it did work with Powerbook G4 1.67, also running 10.4.6)
I checked the Apple support document :
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303057
for printers supported with intel macs & this printer IS listed as supported.
I've also followed the steps described, including reseting the print manager.
I AM able to print a test page, using the HP Driver utility via Printer Setup Utility.
    This works fine.
However, if I attempt to print anything else (textedit, photoshop, preview) i get a badly garbled printout, letters large or streched & broken up onto several pages.
I'm confused why the test page works fine from Printer Setup, but anything else is junk - Any ideas?

    Download Guten Print
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15970
it has the lastest drivers for the HP printers, yours included. I hope it'll work.

  • Printing report error with using orarrp

when I using orarrp together with Acrobat Reader 5.0, the
printout rotated and aligned into the centre of A4 paper.
Although I have unchecked the check box in the print dialog of
    Acrobat Reader, it still happened.
I have tested by using HP4L, HP1100 as the printer, it seems no

Is there any parameter passing for overcome the problem?
Please show how can I overcome the situation.

    Hi Sandeep,
I'm already draging it from the query input port. Are you referring a different way? How I could have the input variables in the query which I'm creating using the BI integration wizard.  To get this input variable I'm trying to add the input form.
Am I doing anything wrong here ?
    Pls help.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9/Win7 - Inserting Word documents into PDF file intermittently leads to missing or garbled text?

    Heya.
I have a user who is creating a PDF essentially compiled from inserting word documents into the position she wants inside of the PDF.
The problem is that sometimes this leads to missing or garbled text. For example, 6-8.1 is displayed as 6- .1. Which is just plain weird.
Other times, the text looks garbled or uneven. She turned off her PC but I took screenshots of both of these scenarios. I fear that I am not going to be able to retroactively fix the corruption in this document for her.
She says she's using very standard fonts. Like Arial. I asked if she could locate the original Word document that produced the garbled text, just for a sanity check. The problem is that her co-worker may have been the only one with that particular word document (there are probably hundreds which compile this PDF...) and IF she has it, she might not be able to locate it on her PC TO check what the original text is. Yikes.
Google-fu turns up very little. I tried the guidance in this document - https://answers.acrobatusers.com/We-combine-PDF-document-ends-corrupt-What-problem-q197619 .aspx[2] and a Save-As but no avail.
This also turns up but is not applicable to Acrobat 9 I believe:  http://blogs.adobe.com/acrobatineducation/2010/02/get_rid_of_that_bloat_in_your.html[3]
She states that she can manually fix the document but after a while it gets corrupted again? But I haven't observed that and she might have just fed me that to amplify the problem.
I will be able to post screenshots when she turns on her computer tomorrow.

Here are the two instances of corruption we have come across.
    http://imgur.com/nPztMYm
    http://imgur.com/wHM12e2
Edit:  A LITTLE MORE INFO.  I am able to select the corrupted text, paste it into Notepad with all the characters intact.  So the characters are THERE.  they are just not being displayed correctly.
Edit:  They also do not print correctly.  The page prints with characters missing, and she wants to print this document, so that is going to be an issue.

  • Adobe Acrobat X Standard is displaying some PDFs with garbled text. Help, please.

I've been using Adobe Acrobat X Standard without any issues for a long while.  The other day, I received a PDF, opened it, and the words are garbled.  My co-worker who has the very same software is able to view the document without all the garbage.  I have gone to distiller in an attempt to fix.  No one from IT can seem to fix the problem and I am at my wits end.  I've lost lots of sleep over this.  I was even upgraded to Adobe Acrobat XI and still can review the document but again.  Everyone else can.  Don't mean to go on and on but, I really need the experts out there to assist me with this issue.
I would appreciate any assistance you can provide.  Thank you.

Not sure what you're referring to. Is this "URL" part of the page content or are you viewing PDFs in a browser? A screenshot would help.

  • Printing of internet-based pdf files garbled by Acrobat 8 Pro

I am running Acrobat 8 Pro on a pc under Windows XP SP2. Any pdf files received by email or downloaded from the internet (Explorer 8) are completely garbled. Same happens with Reader 9. However, when I print from my laptop with Vista Home Basic, Explorer 7 and Reader 9, to the SAME printer, everything is fine. Any suggestions?

    Question1: No.
    Question2: No.

  • Garbled characters appear in PDF's generated in Acrobat XI 11.0.10

Adobe: when generating PDF's using Acrobat XI 11.0.10, garbled characters appear on complete lines on otherwise legible generated pages. Adobe Acrobat says no updates are available. Please advise what workaround(s) should be used to prevent this. The problem seems to be increasing lately.
    Platform: Windows 7.
Steps to troubleshoot: have no idea where to start other than updating Acrobat which has already been done.

You probably are using some strange fonts that Acrobat can not embed due to licensing and are not viewing with system fonts. Be sure all the fonts are embedded (document properties -- ctrl-D).

  • Acrobat 9 - font garbles up

Hi. I am using a corporate owned font (Type 1) for a client, and have never had a problem with it until Acrobat 9.
When I save a large photoshop (CS5) file as PDF, bring it into Acrobat 9 to add printer marks and run optimization to reduce file size, the type gets garbled up, with missing characters, wacky spacing, and looks nothing like the original file.
I've also had a case where the font in PDF looks ok on my computer, but when it gets to the printer it is all funky. The only solution was to send a high res JPG instead of PDF.
I've checked to see what fonts are embedded, and the corporate font is listed.
What can I do to prevent fonts from getting all garbled up?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Mike,
After optimizing,  I go to properties > fonts, the fonts are listed as embedded as a subset.
When I optimize, I don't have the "font" box checked, so it should leave the fonts alone, shouldn't it?
I just added new job definitions specifically including the fonts for embedding and will see if this changes anything.

  • Acrobat 11 - Text boxes are garbled

    Windows XP, Acrobat 11 (Hebrew)
I saved a number of Word 2007/2010 documents as PDFs and then combined them into one PDF. The original Word documents contained many textboxes. Although the individual Word documents that were saved as PDFs are fine, and the combined document looks fine as well, sometimes errors occurred.
I printed the document to my in-house printer and all was fine. I used WeTransfer to transfer the file to a publisher.
    a) When he printed, a few of the many text boxes were missing some of the text. He sent back the file. I fixed the textboxes and sent it back using WeTransfer. At that time, a different textbox was missing some text. Also,
    b) Occassionally, within a textbox, the ? at the end of a line printed at the beginning of the line instead.
Does anyone know if there is a bug or other reason that this is occurring?
    Thanks

Thank you LoriAUC and Bill for responding. If you have patience, I still need help.
Lori, no, I had not been using the PDFMaker on the Acrobat ribbon. I had gone to Save As and changed the Type to Adobe PDF. I looked at the Acrobat ribbon now but I am having difficulty.
I see that under Preferences | Advanced Settings | Fonts, I can select fonts to embed and remove those in the Do Not Embed list. How do I ensure that this sticks? If I click Save, I am prompted for a name but when I return to the Advanced Settings | Fonts dialog box, the original setting is there.
How do I make the setting stick? How do I use my named settings? Is there a way I can use it automatically for all ~90 previously saved documents I am working with?
Also, should the “Subset fonts when percent of characters used is less than:” be set to 1?
Bill, where are the Print or Press job settings?
Thank you both for your help. I really appreciate it.

  • Garbled text printing from Acrobat pro 11.0.09

I tried printing a PDF invoice from one of my suppliers yesterday and though they have printed fine in the past, suddenly all the text that is set in Arial Narrow is printing as random and squashed symbols and characters. I've checked and I have Arial Narrow active under Suitcase Fusion 5,  but it is listed as embedded anyway in the document so that shouldn't be an issue. It prints fine if I open in Preview and of course if I select print as image in the print dialogue. I'm using an Epson AL C2800. Anyone any thoughts on what might be causing this? It will be a pain to have to select print as image every time I get a document from these people?

Hi Dov and thanks for your speedy reply. I've tried downloading the latest driver for the AL C2800 which reports on Epson's site as 7.10. However after installing The printer utility still reports v 17.04 and printing still has garbled text.
Using PCL mode doesn't seem to make any difference either. I assume I'm doing this correctly ny selecting PCL as an portion from the printer menu - or do I have to download a separate driver? I tried sending you a message but I don't know how to send one of the pdf files in question. Then I click on attach an image it rejects a pdf file. So how do i get a copy of the file to you?
What is so strange is that everything worked fine a couple of weeks ago when I last printed one of these documents. The only conscious change to my system or printer is changing a leaking black printer cartridge a couple of days ago, installing the MS Onedrive app (and then deleting as it seems pretty useless), activating a couple of system fonts to handle foreign language/symbol encoding and updating a couple of minor apps - Fetch and an update to Suitcase Fusion 5 (I tried quitting Suitcase through I know it's not the culprit as the font is embedded - but I still get the garbled text)

  • Acrobat XI garbled text when optimising or reducing

Text unreadable as file size is reduced for client
Original sized file OK when going to P4P

Editing PDFs is a desperate last resort, not a normal workflow so Adobe don't expect you to do much.
You could at least compose text outside Acrobat and copy/paste it in batches.

  • CFPRINT outputs empty page or garbled content

    Hi all,
okay I have to explain our situation first:
We have CF9 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. Fully patched with all latest stuff.
On CF Admin I can see our printer attached to the server. The CF9 server runs under a specified user who has full access to the system and the printer.
We create a PDF document on the server by populating a PDF Form that was made with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (Live Cycle Designer).
If we want to print the populated form with cfprint programmatically (the PDF output can be viewed or printed with Acrobat Reader 9.3 without problems), the printout is either a completely blank page (printer attached to server) or a garbled page with missing letters or letters replace with squares (on an other printer on a duplicate setup: Quality Management System CF9 as well).
We did use CFPDFFORM populating an existing empty PDF Form because the form layout changes often and we didn't want to use CFDOCUMENT to create the PDF because we not wanted to rewrite the cfdocument PDF generating part everytime the PDF layout would change.
Someone has a hint what is going wrong here?
    Thanks for all possible help

More or less a related issue with images.  Not sure if anyone following this thread can help.
I've been able to embed an image in my pdf form and actually display the image in the resulting pdf form.
    Code is quite stright forward:
    <cfpdfform action="populate" source="BdTv5.pdf" xmldata="#bonData#" destination="#expandPath('/grr.pdf')#" overwrite="yes" />
the xml data contains image data inserted in the xml using the toBase64() function.
As mentioined above, the dynamic result file 'grr.pdf' outputs the image correctly, ea. I see the image previously stored in the xml.
Once I flatten the pdf form to a static pdf file, the image is gone while the text data from the xml is still there and converted to 'static' text.
Code used to convert the pdf form to static Acrobat file:
    <cfpdf action="write" flatten="yes" source="#expandPath('/grr.pdf')#" destination="#expandPath('/grrStatic.pdf')#" overwrite="yes" />
I hope I'm wrong and that I'm doing something wrong, but I suspect Adobe is blocking on purpose the ablility to flatten dynamicly inserted images in ColdFusion to sell more LiveCycle / InDesign stuff while ColdFusion could do an excellent job at a fraction of the investment.

  • PDFs look different in Adobe reader and Acrobat professional compared to the built in PDF viewer on windows 8

    Hi there,
I have been trying to narrow down an issue we have been having for some time in printing PDF files and finding that they look different on paper compared to screen.  Up until today our big KIP plotter got the blame, but as I have been collecting notes on a little windows 8 tablet I noted that PDFs opened in the windows PDF viewer have the same visual defects as the printouts.  My example today is that on a CAD drawing there is a small box/frame with a number in their, I tried printing and the frame was completely blacked out.  As a test I tried saving the PDF as a TIFF file from Adobe Acrobat professional and this file had the same fault as the printed copy.  When I open it in the windows 8 pdf viewer I can see that there is a shading within this box that does not show on Adobe Reader (latest version 11.0.10.32), the adobe reader and acrobat pro version both show a white background to the box.  We have been having lots of issues with sections being missing from drawings and overly feint lines.
I am not sure where to start trying to narrow down why we are getting different results in different PDF readers.  Is there anyone who maybe able to point me in the right direction?  It almost feels like the shading or colour density is not being consistent when PDFs are being opened in different packages.
    Thanks in advance
    Andy

Some PDF viewers comply with the PDF ISO Standard (ISO 32000) "just enough" while others (such as Adobe's) fully comply.
As with anything there's a cost to using anything that comes from a "just enough" approach.
    Be well...
