Acrobat 9.5.5 Pro - odd font won't go away

I began creating a new form and hadn't checked the default font.  After making about 10 fields I used Preview to enter some text.  Not liking the result, I had a look at the font being used.  Something called, "KozMinPr6N-Regular," which is Japanese.  Never heard of it - have never used it.  Not sure how it became a default.  I changed the font for those 10 fields, reset the default to Helvetica and created another 60 or so fields.
The form printed fine in Acrobat Pro, but when I opened it in Reader (11.0.06) and tried to print using the Print Dialog, I received the message that "The document could not be printed."  I clicked OK (the only option) and a new box opened that said "There were no pages selected to print."  This after I "Selected All" in the print dialog and saw the preview of the document as a thumbnail.
At one point I was instructed to go to the Adobe website to download a font since "the author hadn't included it."  Well, I was the author and apparently it was referring to this Japanese font.
Back to Acrobat, and opening Document Properties > Fonts I see that Japanese font is included, as well as Helvetica.  Yet I've checked ALL of the field properties and there's ONLY Helvetica in use.  Short of starting all over from scratch, how can I fix this?
Also, I looked up Embedding Fonts in the Help dialog, but that's of NO help since it doesn't tell me how to do so - only the pros and cons.
I'm running OS X 10.9.2.
Thoughts?  Thank you!

I see, I misread your reference to Reader 11 to mean you were using Acrobat 11, but it looks like it worked out anyway.
The base-14 fonts are special in PDF because they are guaranteed to be available even if they are not embedded. If you select a non-base-14 font for use with a form field, the entire font usually gets embedded, since each glyph it contains has to be available for use with the field. This can take up a lot of space if you do this a lot, and the space isn't reduced if you change back to a base-14 font later because the internal reference to it is not removed. This is caused by the bug I mentioned.
In your case, however, the entire font doesn't get embedded because fonts like it (e.g., large asian fonts with a lot of glyphs, Arial Unicode) would take up too much space if fully embedded. If it did, a 100KB PDF could bloat to 20MB with that one change. Instead, users are expected to have such fonts installed on their system, which is why you were prompted to install the font pack. This despite the fact that the font was not actually used by anything in your document, it was simply the orphaned reference to it that triggered this. This should get fixed in Acrobat eventually so this type of thing doesn't happen again.

  • Unwanted TT font won't go away!

I do a lot of prepress, so I'm loading temporary fonts every once in a while. One of these fonts, "Savatage" (an ugly TrueType script font) keeps activating itself in websites and my email. I deleted it long ago, and doing a search for it on my system returns nothing.
A restart gets rid of it for a while- but it pops its ugly head up again, so it's obviously lurking somewhere.
    Anybody have any ideas?

You may not find the font. Rather, it could be that the applications (actually, documents) that are tagged to use that font are just picking up old font cache data.
Clearing the font cache files from the system will cause the app to use some sort of font to display where Savatage is supposed to appear, but the only real solution is highlight the text that currently calls for that font and replace it with something else. Or just remove that text.

  • Myriad Pro Light Font not working

    Dear community,
Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, my Myriad pro Light font won't work and I can't reinstall it. I get the "serious error" message in Font Book. All the other Myriads work, including the Myriad Pro Light Italic font. Do you know, what's wrong?
    Thank you.

I can't reinstall it. I get the "serious error" message in Font Book.
There is no need to pay any attention to Font Book. Just manually put the font in one of the Library/Fonts folders.

  • Acrobat 8.1.2 Pro: Cannot find or create the font 'Arial'.

I have two workstations both running Acrobat 8.1.2 Pro, both have the font Arial installed and working just fine in other applications.
I have a pdf file from a customer which opens fine in one workstation, the other workstation gives the following error and shows all text in the pdf as "dots".
Cannot find or create the font 'Arial'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.
I've Googled "Cannot find or create the font" and find this problem has been reported in Adobe forums and elsewhere in several previous versions of Adobe Acrobat. Nowhere is the problem resolved... most responses suggest the font Arial is not installed which is not helpful as the Arial font is indeed working fine in other applications.
    Windows XP/ Adobe CS3 / Adobe 8.1.2 Professional
    Thanks,

I am having the same problem Sam is. I only see dots in my document and received the same error mesage only I was using a different font. The font is installed on y system and usable in other documents.
I tried to change the font (dots) to a different font but received an error messge stating the change could not be done because the "chosen font and the font encodings in the document differ and could not be resolved"
    Please help!
    Thanks so much!

  • New HD, Now Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.16 Won't Print PDFs to HP2605dn

Had a HD die. Replaced with new one. All humming along on my OS 10.4.11 G4Powerbook except now newly re-installed Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.16 won't print PDFs to my HP2605dn printer. Adobe Reader 9.1.3 and Preview will print my PDFs so that's a workaround, but would like to get Acrobat Pro back to pre-grey screen of death functionality.
    Have sourced hp:

(even though technically I'm not on 9 - same difference)
I'm running out of ideas here. Anyone feel like playing House, M.D. with my problem???

What message do you get, exactly? (Please don't include the serial itself).
Is this using the original CD that came with the Acrobat 8 product?
Does it say anything about a "qualifying product"?

  • Why Does Acrobat Pro Looses Font Type

    Hello All -
I am putting up a web site and have up-loaded a few PDF files that were created with Acrobat Pro for Windows.  I have used Adobe's font type - Lithos Bold.  When I open the file on my computer or another persons computer the PDF's have maintained the Lithos Blod font.  But, when I up-load the same file(s) to my web site via FTP and then check the site, the Lithos Bold font is not showing up.
The web site I am working on is a very entry level work in progress - one link to the PDF file is at:
    http://themirrorgroup.com/nasa/wp-content/PDF/CultureOfInclusion.pdf
the other link to look at is (and this one maintained its formatting) - why, I hope someone can answer the question.
    http://themirrorgroup.com/nasa/wp-content/PDF/BestWorstCaseScenarios.pdf
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Both files look fine to me. Can you post a screen capture of the problem and point out what the problem is. Both files have Lithos Bold embedded. The Arial and such might be a problem, but the Lithos should not be a problem. There is an outside chance you have Acrobat turned on to use Local fonts and you do not have that one on your system.

  • Fonts won't outline in Flattener

    Hi,
    I have an issue.
When I create PDFs in InDesign, sometimes (for font issues) I need to take the PDF into Acrobat Pro to outline the fonts.
When I have done all of the process, I can use the Flattener to outline the fonts and it works.
I have received a PDF from a client that won't go through our Platemaker RIP because of some font corruption.
They created it from Quark 7. I have tried the same Flattener settings that work for my PDFs, but the Fonts just won't outline.
It doesn't matter what I do in Acrobat Pro, the fonts just stay put.
Does anyone have any suggestions, apart from ask the client to outline the fonts their end?

only fonts that get flattened get outlined. if the text is not overlapping any other
part of an image it will not outline.
You can try adding an blank page as a transparent watermark (using the add watermark option in Acrobat) over the text, then flatten again.

  • While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

  • Cannot edit text or any command other than print in Adobe Acrobat 9.0.1 Pro. Receive error message

I just installed adobe acrobat 9.0.1 Pro and it opens up pdfs and prints fine but when I try to edit text or enter any other command I get an error and it gives the option of cancel to debug or to exit program.
    Error message:
The instruction at “0x2b806327” referenced memory at “0x00000348”. The memory could not be “read”.
Click on ok to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
At first it stated that it did not recognize the font but when I looked it up under file, properties, fonts. The font was helvetica (embedded subset) for all the fonts on the pdf file. I have also checked the sercurity tab as well and there is no security on the file.
When I choose cancel to debug it just terminates the program. When I choose ok it terminates the program.
    Please help.

Maybe your installation is currupt (scratched CD)
Reinstall on another maschine (and clean CD) to validate this case.
Update your Acrobat, maybe the corresponding files are replaced or the error is fixed.

  • Acrobat 8 shows in the dock but won't open

I have a new installation of Acrobat Pro, along with PS5. Computer is a mac w/snow leopard. Question is Acrobat 8 shows in the dock but won't open - says PS must be open for it to work - but PS is open(and functioning fine). So how do I get Acrobat working?
    Thanks

I opened an earlier version of a CS program (Illustrator 3).  Acrobat seemed to find what it needed and opened.  It now opens normally - even with CS3 applications closed.

  • Din font won't display in pdf file since December update to version 11.0.10

I upgraded my Acrobat to version 11.0.10 just before the Christmas break. Din font is my corporate typeface and I used it yesterday to create an invoice in Mac Pages only to discover that I cannot view the pdf as the font won't display in Acrobat. And to add to the problem my clients who are using the same version of Acrobat are unable to view the font either on the pdf. It all worked fine before the upgrade.
What can be done to rectify the problem? I need to fix this asap.
This error message appears when I try and open the file "Cannot extract the embedded font 'DQPJNL+DIN-Medium'. S"
The DQPJNL bit changes depending on the file being opened but essential Din font won't display.

    Hi,
Please check if DIN font is embedded in your PDF by going to File > Properties > Fonts
If no, then you might need to go to 'Tools > Print Production > Preflight'
Then, open the PDF fixups section, click on Embed fonts fixup and choose 'Analyze and fix button'.
Please check and let me know if you are able to view the font now.

  • Acrobat can't find built-in font

When examining the same document with Acrobat 7.0.8 Pro on several of our Windows 2000 workstations, some workstations throw the following error and some do not - "Cannot find of create the font 'Code128JK'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Those that show the error display dots in place of the characters.
Any help would be appreciated. More details follow.
    Thanks,
    Bruce
    DETAILS
The Type 1 font was installed manually on all workstations, using the Windows setting GUI.
I have confirmed that it exists and is properly registered on all workstations. There is a registry entry for the font under ...
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Type 1 Installer\Type 1 Fonts
On all workstations, other Windows applications have no trouble with the font, and display it in their list of available fonts.
Acrobat 7.0.8 Pro was installed by the same install package on all workstations.
With the document open in Acrobat, under File > Document Properties ... > Fonts, the failing workstations list the font as follows ...
    Code128JK
    Type: Type 1
    Encoding: Built-in
    Actual font: Unknown
The "good" systems list it as follows ...
    Code128JK
    Type: Type 1
    Encoding: Built-in
    Actual font: Code128JK
    Actual font type: Type 1

No problem. Thanks for letting us know your solution. We often get so tied up in our views, we also forget the simple ones. Fonts can be confusing, but this is a good lesson on why you should embed fonts when you send the PDFs to others, at least those outside your office. I have seen PDFs that look like trash because a font had not been embedded. The most common case is with folks using LaTeX and not embedding fonts that are not on either a PC or a MAC. One guy created a whole program for a conference and posted it. In AA7 (with the font issue AA7 had) all of the titles were in a Greek font and were unreadable. I am sure they looked fine to him.
Sounds like you need a bit of a stress reliever tonight. Have a good one.
