Acrobat 9.5.5 Update Problem

Hi,
I updated Acrobat 9 Pro (on Windows 7) today. Now I cannot print a pdf from the web browser (IE 10). If I disable the "view pdf in web browser" feature and open online pdf files in Acrobat instead of IE, it works fine. Something with the update broke my ability to print from within the browser. When I try, the print window is garbled and the system does nothing when I click print.
I have tried reparing the installation, making sure all add-ons are enabled in IE, and verifying that the Internet settings in Acrobat under Preferences are all enabled. Is there a fix for this?
-Gary

After you remove acrobat, Try booting your mahcine in Safe Boot mode first and then enable the root user and try to install Acrobat 9 followed by its updates.
Start in Safe Boot mode | Mac OS X : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/start-safe-boot-mode-mac.html
Enable Root user : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528
Hope that Helps.
Cheers!!

  • Acrobat 8.2.4 update problem solution needs clarification

Could someone please clarify the solution offered at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/861/cpsid_86169.html
    Adobe Solution
Adobe has released an  Acrobat 8.2.4 update via the auto-update mechanism for Adobe Acrobat  8.2.3 (CS3) for Mac OS. Adobe recommends that you check for updates by  choosing Help > Check For Updates from the Acrobat menu bar.
    File information
    Filename: AcroFix824_Delivery.dmg
    Usage notes
Double-click  AcroFix824_Delivery.dmg to mount the disc image.
Open the mounted disc image and double click the AcroFix824 utility to run it.
In the Choose A File dialog box, browse to the Acrobat Professional application that you want to patch.
Enter the administrator credentials in Authenticate dialog box.
Click OK when the utility displays the Patched Successfully message.
    My questions are:
After I had the problem with the 8.2.4 update, I restored my Acrobat Pro back to 8.2.3 using Time Machine. So I don't need a patch, I need a workable 8.2.4 update to 8.2.3.
So if I update to 8.2.4 using the above solution,
    1. Does " choosing Help > Check For Updates" just install a patch to the original flawed update to 8.2.4?
(Since I am back to my 8.2.3 version, I presume a patch would not work, if this is the case.)
    2. Or does the  "Help > Check For Updates" update my 8.2.3 to the flawed 8.2.4 and then the the AcroFix824.dmg patches the flawed update?
    3. Or does the  "Help > Check For Updates" update my 8.2.3 to a working 8.2.4?
Thanks for your help in clarifying this. I keep getting auto update messges for 8.2.4 and I don't want to say yes to them if it still is a problem with auto update.

I followed Adobe's instructions and the flawed 8.2.4 is constantly crashing. I cannot believe the update is worst than the old version. I would recommend not to update until Adobe fixes this useless update.
Now I have to re-install the program again and make sure not to install the useless "new update".
Adobe is going from bad to worse!

  • Acrobat Standard 9.1.2 update problem?

I'm running Acrobat Standard 9 on Windows Vista Ultimate.
Right after installing the Acrobat 9.1.2 update, but before restarting my system, I tried to open a PDF file, and experienced cascading file openings, where Acrobat seemed to be trying to open every PDF file on my hard drive in a separate window. Each window header contains the statement: "Adobe Acrobat not responding." After shutting down Acrobat through Task Manager, I then restarted my system, thinking that the problem was a failure to complete the update installation, but when I just tried to start Acrobat (without trying to open any file), it automatically began opening multiple PDF files again.
At that point, I ran a restore to a previous Acrobat version, but did not restart my system. After the restore was complete, my desktop displayed two Acrobat startup icons, one for v9.1.2 and one for the previous version. I tried to start Acrobat by clicking the previous verion icon, but had the same problem with automatic multiple file openings. When I checked the software list in Control Panel, I found that it only contained v9.1.2, and not the supposedly restored version. Does anyone know if I had to restart my system to make the restore work?
When it looked like the restore to previous version had not worked, I did an Acrobat program repair through Control Panel, and restarted my system, but when I tried to start Acrobat, the same problem occurred. Every time it occurs, I have to shut down Acrobat through Task Manager.
I never experienced this problem until I installed the 9.1.2 update. Has anyone else experienced problems with this update? Does anyone here know the cause of the automatic multiple file opening problem?

As far as I'm concerned, there is something screwy about this whole release.  I have used Acrobat Standard since v4.0, and was forced to buy v8 or v9 when I upgraded my OS to Vista, so I chose v9.  However, the most important feature to me (besides converting other documents to PDF files), something called FreeText, was replaced by something now called Typewriter.  Unfortunately, where FreeText was intuitive and seamless, I cannot view the result of a Typewriter session in my document, after entering new text and closing the feature.  On top of that, Adobe tech support seems to have gotten less accessible over the years.
This new problem has now rendered my Acrobat program completely unusable, and for some reason, Adobe's Internet support contact form doesn't even interact with my inputs.  This forum has proved useless to me for any problem-solving.  Anybody from Adobe Engineering listening?

  • Acrobat 8.2 update problem

Let me start by saying that if I am the only one who was affected by this, I apologize for taking up your time. Having said that, I installed the 8.2 update for Acrobat Pro yesterday afternoon (January 14). I use Creative Suite versions CS through CS3 at work. After installing the update, Illustrator CS and CS2 refused to launch, and InDesign CS refused as well, giving me an error message about not being able to find a serial number. The CS3 applications (InDesign, Illustrator) seemed to be unaffected, and none of the versions of Photoshop were affected.
After trying various fixes (deleting caches, removing preferences files), including restoring one of the programs from a backup, I booted from a clone that I had made earlier in the day (before applying the update). Everything was working fine there, so I restored my main hard drive from the clone and everything now works as it should. I did not reapply the Acrobat update after the restore.
I did not think about repairing permissions (sorry, I forgot).
Since I'm back up and running, I'm really not asking for help. I offer this in case others have had a similar problem. And, if I am the only one, I'm just thankful I had a recent backup from which to restore. Thanks for reading.

OK, I was able to update Acrobat Pro 8.x.x to 8.2.0. This is how I did it:
    1. I used App Zapper to remove Acrobat Pro 8.1.7 — the app, the uninstaller, etc. — all apps that resided in the applications' folder as well as their plist files. I re-installed Acrobat Pro 8.0.0 using my disk (choosing just the Acrobat Pro files to install). I re-started my computer (my choice). All my updates were done within Acrobat Pro via Help:Check for updates…rather than downloading separate update files. Though I did try to update using a downloaded version of 8.1.0, but it wouldn't allow me to choose the Acrobat application (the app was grayed out). So, I just did each incremental update using the Help:Check for update… method.
    2. When I opened Acrobat 8.0.0, there was a message regarding updating the Updater, which I clicked OK. Once loaded, the Updater stated that I could update to 8.1.3, which I agreed with. It took a long time, and I had to quit the Updater because it seemed to be taking a long time (stuck on) a Lite version of a Flash or Bridge component (I don't remember which). I re-started the computer.
    3. I re-ran the updater via Help:Check for updates…, and the 8.1.3 was applied again, except that I received an error message (even though using Get Info, I noticed that Acrobat Pro was at version 8.1.3).
    4. That message at the end of updating 8.0.0 to 8.1.3 had to do with not being able to update a component or plug-in for use with Version Cue. Now, I don't use Version Cue, and it may have been missing, so I re-inserted the installation disk for Adobe CS3 Design Standard again, and chose just the Version Cue and its components to install. With that installation a success, I re-started the computer (my choice, again).
    5. After the re-start, I opened Acrobat 8.1.3, and proceeded to apply each update. (Note that one has to close the Acrobat application before the update can be applied.) Each update (8.1.4, 8.1.6, and so on) applied successfully all the way to and including update 8.2.1. So, it appears that I have succeeded.
To summarize, I re-installed both Acrobat Pro 8.0.0, after removing Acrobat 8.1.7 and its preference files. I also re-stalled Version Cue. I ran the updates via Help:Check for updates…

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2 Update - can no longer see PCs on network (e.g. ping/offer remote assistance)

Hello - I just did the Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2 update in two different offices and the strangest thing happened while finishing 4 computers today.
I did the restart after installing the last update - 9.3.2 - and I can not connect to the computers again.
The workstations are Windows XP Pro SP3..on a SBS2003 network.  The computers restart and the users can log back into the network and have no problems accessing network resources, Internet, etc.  The only problem is that I can not ping the workstations from the server...I can not connect to the workstations from the server either.  It's very strange how this has happened to the last 4 workstations today - when I had no problems with the other workstations yesterday.
I had the users restart the workstations several times - no luck - even shutdown/restart - no luck.
I am not in the offices to troubleshoot further in person....but I can have somebody be my "hands" onsite if need be.
Has anyone come across this before and know how to fix it - fingers crossed!!
    Thanks!
    Tammy

  • Acrobat 9.5.1 update on Windows XP Error 1321 solutions don't work

Acrobat 9.5.1 update on Windows XP Error 1321 solutions don't work. I can't uninstall program. Error upon error.

    Hi John,
I'm trying to install the SunMC 3.5.1 Console on
Windows XP with not much success. The install
displays the initial splash screen, but then fails
    with the error :
    The install wizard cannot proceed.
Aborting installation now...First, are you installing from a complete SunMC CD or CD image? If you just copied some files out of a CD/image you may have missed some jar files.
SunMC Consoles don't like to share systems with older versions of themselves. Try moving/renaming the directory your 3.5 Console is installed in (or uninstall it if you don't need it),... then try putting 3.5.1 in again.
All my demos/work/courses are on 3.5.1 on an XP laptop, so I know it works.
I think it's probably just not happy about 3.5 already being installed... so just move it out of the way for awhile to get 3.5.1 in (then put 3.5 back so you can have them both).
    Regards,
    Mike
The Java version is 1.4.2_03 .
The Release Notes etc don't give any clues.
Strangely, SunMC 3.5 works fine on this desktop..
Any ideas as to where I can go from here? This is
effectively stopping me from going from SMC 3.5 to
3.5.1, unless I can get the Console working..
Has anyone else had problems with SMC 3.5.1 on XP?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

  • Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Reader 9: cannot update, remove, or re-install ...

After I have downloaded Acrobat Professional 9.0 updates and Acrobat Reader 9 updates, both update installations fail.
    Acrobat Reader 9 problems
I thought that there could be a conflict between Acrobat Reader 9, which I have also installed, and Acrobat Professional 9.0, so I tried to remove Acrobat Reader 9, but the patch package could not be found. I then ran the Windows Install Cleanup tool, but Acrobat Reader 9 is still on my system. I now cannot reinstall it, nor can I really remove it
I’d like to remove Acrobat Reader 9 entirely because I already have Acrobat Professional 9.0, but how?
    Acrobat Professional 9.0 problems
When I try to remove Acrobat Professional 9.0 in order to re-install it from disk, I get the message that the patch package could not be found. When I insert the disk to try to repair Acrobat Professional 9.0, I get the message that the patch package could not be opened. When I try to use the Repair Acrobat Installation option in the Help menu of the program, nothing happens.
I’m hesitant to run the Windows Install Cleanup tool on Acrobat Professional 9.0 because of the problems I got with Acrobat Reader 9 after running the Windows Install Cleanup tool.
How can I re-install Acrobat Professional 9.0 from disk?

    Amanda,
As Van says, yes you can have both seleced at the same time. I suspect there are other issues on your machine that are creating your problems. FWIW, I too have been running FM9 on a win7 64-bit platform with no issues.
The Roaming Profile is used typicaly with remote logins across a WAN (wide area network), however, application specific gets stored there - depending upon the application. Since you've seemed to have resolved the issue by deleting (or disabling the profile, i.e. the apps won't look there) the Roaming profile folder, it sounds like there might have been something corrupt or erroneous in the Acrobat data folders. When you installed your FM versions, did you deselect the accompanying PDFcreator option? If not and you had an existing Acrobat installation, then some items would have been overwritten, creating some issues for you.

  • Where is the Acrobat 8.1 Professional update download link?

Where is the Acrobat 8.1 Professional update download link?
I've spent all afternoon searching for it and can't find it. I can find every other link for 8.1.1 all the way up to 8.3.1, but no link to 8.1, which I had downloaded a few years ago.
Also, does anyone know if I have to install all the way up to 8.3.1 since I just use it for text and not 3D?
Please help, because I just reinstalled my original version of 8.0 and it's got the original problem with printing.
I can't afford to buy a new version right now since I'm out of work. Thanks for your help.

If you cannot install them from the help menu, then to go ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/. If you have a MAC, move up the directory tree.

  • New Acrobat 3D Version 8 Update

The Adobe® Acrobat® 3D Version 8 update contains several updated dynamic link libraries (DLLs) that provide support for more recent versions of CAD file formats when using Acrobat 3D Version 8 and Acrobat 3D Toolkit Version 8. It also fixes a number of bugs related to CAD format import in Acrobat 3D Version 8.
New supported CAD format versions include: NX 5, I-DEAS 13, SolidWorks 2008, and Inventor 2008.

I am struggling how to upgrade my Acrobat 3D on Vista. When I install A3d v7 on Vista it takes down Internet Explorer. The error message is "Cannot load DLL due to incompatible format" and at that point Internet Explorer no longer starts.
Does the update fix this problem or will I go through an endless cycle of install/update/error/uninstall?

  • Acrobat 9.3.3 update did not install

I downloaded the Acrobat 9.3.3 update yesterday and applied it to Acrobat 9.3.2. The installation ended normally. When I open Acrobat, it still shows that I have Acrobat 9.3.2. When I check for updates, it says there are no updates available.
I applied the update to Acrobat Reader 9.3.2 on another system. When I open Reader on that machine, it shows Acrobat Reader 9.3.3.
    Why?
    Ken Friedman

Although I cannot figure out this happened, I fixed the ptorblem. I repaired Acrobat 9 and successfully installed all the updates including 9.3.3. When I start Acrobat and click the About Acrobat 9, it says 9.3.3. Problem solved!

  • Error: adobe acrobat elements has encountered a problem and needs to close

When I right-click to Convert to PDF or Convert to PDF and EMail for .xls, .xlsx, .doc, .docx, .pptx, .ppt, .pub, and .igx items (what I've tried so far), I get the following error: "Adobe acrobat elements has encountered a problem and needs to close".  It works fine on .bmp .tif, .txt, .htm, and .jpg (what I've tried so far).  I am not having problems printing to Adobe to convert, nor am I having problems creating a PDF within a program, and I'm not having problems converting from IE.  I am using Windows XP Professional, Microsoft 2007, and IE 7.  My Adobe product is Adobe Acrobat X Pro Version 10.1.2.  What can I do to resolve this problem?  Thanks.

No, I don't have an older version.  I did a search on my C drive for anything that has a name of Acrobat Elements and came up with the following: (I'm hoping you can see this)

  • I can no longer "send for signature" in Acrobat XI after Echosign update.

I can no longer "send for signature" in Acrobat XI after Echosign update. Now when I click that option, up comes a box that asks me to enter the recipients email and their name. I did a test and it send it to the recipient without me being able to add signature boxes for the recipient in Echosign. It used to upload the document to Echosign and then I could position the recipients signature boxes before sending to them for their signatures...By the way, I use a Macbook Pro.

I want to clarify. When I make a document (in my case a real estate form) I click the "sign" tab in Acrobat XI then "get others to sign." A blue box pops up and says "uploading to Echosign." This is normal so far. At this point, before the recent Echosign update, my browser would automatically open up to the Echosign website and show my document that was just uploaded. Then I was able to position signature boxes for the recipients. Now what happens is a box comes up on my screen and just wants me to send the recipient an email. See photo...

  • Unable to install Acrobat 8.2 Standard update

I'm trying to install Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.2 update and it always fails with the error"Internal Error 2254. , Registry"
I have tried this on both Windows 2000 and XP and get the same error.
Prior to the patch install, the product version was 8.1.7
The same patch also applies to Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 and I was able to install it without any issue.

Are you doing this manually by going to the update site and downloading the update, or by the Adobe automatic update process?
