Acrobat 9.5 & Internet Explorer 9

I have been a very happy user of Acrobat for a long time.  Built a new PC with Win7 Ultimate and updated IE to Ver 9 but cud not convert pages to pdf.  Got advice from Adobe that 9.5 does not work with IE9.  Wud like to update to IE9 can anyone confirm can do and have all features of 9.5 (and more).  Is this possible and how please?

The information you got from Adobe is correct as I have seen. You might look for an update to IE9 if you have installed it to see if that resolves the issue. Otherwise you may have to upgrade to AA X, but I am not 100% sure even that works with IE9. My solution was to forget IE9. I generally avoid IE anyway due to problems with it and only use it when I need to sloppy features of the program.

  • Acrobat X crashes Internet Explorer 9

    Hi all.
Using Windows 7 x64 and Internet Explorer, I'm having problems when reading a pdf in the web browser, with Acrobat X. When I close the tab or IE9, the following message appears: "Internet Explorer has stopped working..." without giving any more detail about the failure. I have tried disabling all the plugins in Internet Explorer (using IE with no complements) and the failure is still there. The only way to avoid it is to disable IE9 and Acrobat integration and to open the pdfs directly in Acrobat, not in IE9.
After uninstalling and trying with Acrobat 9, everything seems to go fine.
    Thanks.

I have the same problem with Acrobat 9 on IE9.
I have no problems with Acrobat 9 or Acro X on IE8.
So, the problem seems to be specific to IE9.

  • Acrobat 8 vs Internet Explorer

Hi. I'm unable to install Acrobat 8 on my freshly formated Windows XP. All my computers are using the same setup installed from MSI. Internet Explorer 6.0 is the original web browser but we update it to 8.0. When I have to install Acrobat on one of these computers, I get this message : Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater. Please visit www.microsoft.com. I can install Acrobat 6.0 (we still have an old license for this oldie) but the update to the 8.0 doesn't change a thing. We also have CS4 and I can install the 9.0 but I don't want to use a license only to use Acrobat. Does someone have an idea for this strange problem? Thanks in advance.

  • Pdf link dont work if document open in separate Acrobat window in internet explorer

    Hi,
We have many pdf with different links between this pdf. The link type is "Open a file".
    - If the fist pdf document is open from hard drive this links works perfectly.
    - If the pdf document is open from the web site (http://website/doc1.pdf) and adobe reader is configured to open pdf in internet explorer it work also.
    - But if the reader is configured to open pdf in a external window this link dont work. The link try to open the second pdf in c://Internet Temporary Folder/ as root instead of http://website/
Does anyone know a workaround ? I don't know if my customers have configured the reader to open in internet explorer or in a external windows...
    Thanks for help !

If web browser integration is turned off, it really is turned off.
Adobe Reader simply becomes a "helper" application. The browser
downloads the file, puts it somewhere, and runs Adobe Reader. Adobe
Reader is not told anything special about the file and its origins, so
it cannot know that this was (before the download) a web file, or
    where it came from.
A URL link might be the answer.

  • Acrobat PDF reader for Internet Explorer may be unloading/unabling custom plugin

    Hi,
My question is basically to understand what is happening in this situation so that I can find where is the problem and how to solve it.
We have used Acrobat 6.0 SDK to develop our custom plugin. This plugin is basically wrapper to few basic tools  (note, stamp, text ) etc.. provided by Acrobat 6.0 SDK. We have also developed PDFViewer.dll to view PDF document within Internet Explorer. So when user load document within our website this PDFViewer loaded with the custom plugin and user can use those tools.
We are installing this plugin under <Acrobat X>/Plug_ins/<Company Name>/MyPlugin.API.
In our web site we are giving list of documents and when user click on a document it will load the PDFViewer and custom plugin. We are loading Acrobat.exe in advance so that we can load quickly.  Now the problem happens when user open any other PDF in different tab or instance of Internet explorer. ?How?
Consider in a internet explorer user logged in our web site and then he/she can see let's say 10 documents. 1.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf, etc...
Now when user select document 1.pdf we are loading that PDF in the IE within our PDFViewer with custom plugin. (Here I have seen that behind the scene Acrobat.exe is loaded in the processed using task manager)/  If at this time if user opens another instance of Internet explorer or another tab and open a PDF document it opens PDF in the standard Adobe Reader PDF viewer for Internet Explorer resides at (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX).
If at this time user goes back to our site and tried to work on 1.pdf our custom plugin works fine BUT if user opens any other document (let's say 2.pdf) the plug in stops working basically looks like it is not loaded.
This issue only happens if user opens a document in another internet tab or explorer instance and open PDF which resulted in to open Acrobat Activex for internet explorer. If user opens a PDF document out side of internet explorer it is not creating any problem because at that time ActiveX does not loaded.
So my guess is something is going on when ActiveX for PDF is get loaded into Internet Explorer.
I want to know more what is happening and why it is happening. Due to this behavior our web site users can't use any other web site which opens PDF documents because then they have to log off and log back in our web site.
    Please we need immediate help.
I am open to provide more details with screen captures.
    Thanks,
    Twinkle

    Hi,
    Thanks.
So I want to make sure this is because with Acrobat 9 - the new way to deal with PDF's?  Because as per my knowledge it was working fine with Acrobat 8.
Moreover, if I am understanding correctly and I have tested too, the order is important here, right? If I will load PDF in IE first and then I will work on my web site it is not creating problem but if I will launch my web site first and then open PDF within IE in different tab it is creating problem because they are using same interface and when AcroPDF instantiating overriding and failed to load plug_in
Here I have seen that both Acrobat.exe and AcroPDF.dll is using same Acrobat.dll pointing to same memory addresses and that's why problem is happening.
IT would be great if you can provide any other way to "hook" adobe because the bottom line I have to use AcroExch.App from SDK.
One last question, I have seen that if I am opening a PDF in Internet Explorer in a different tab (not in my web app) while pressing SHIFT key and the move to my web site and load different document it is working fine, so the question is what different is happening when we open PDF in IE with pressing SHIFT key and without pressing SHIFT key. IS AcroPDF.dll behaves differently while opening PDF with SHIFT key pressed?
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Open PDF's from Internet Explorer default to Adobe Reader

I have an old version of Acrobat, Acrobat 6 installed, but I also have Reader version 9.
When I open a PDF from a web page it tries to open in Acrobat, but is unable to because the version is old. I want PDFs from the internet to open default to Reader.
Is there a setting I can change with Acrobat, Reader or Internet Explorer to set what program it opens with?

    Sure - I quote:
"Try examing the registry as in this good old tweak from Reinhard Franke:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b6778d
    "[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe]
There you will find the full path to the program IE will use (Acrobat or Reader exe)."
E.g. the data value of the key should be - something like:
    "C:\Programs\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" (for using Reader)
    "C:\Programs\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe" (for using Acrobat)

  • Cannot open, save, or print ship label on USPS website using Acrobat 11; Win 7; Internet Explorer 9.

USPS tech and supervisor spent 1 hour walking me through fixes of uninstalling, installing and changing options to no avail. The provider software (USPS, Adobe & Microsoft) works using other browsers (Google Chrome and Firefox) but not with Internet Explorer (any version as I've tried it with 8 and 9). No virus, malware or defects in any of the software. This problem seems to reoccur every time there is a new release from Adobe, Windows Explorer or the USPS. Has anyone found a solution?
Specifically, either of the "print or save label" prompts in the online postage software opens a dialogue bar that give 2 choices: save or cancel.  The cancel option doesn't work at all; the bar stays open. The save option opens the operating system software to "desktop" but when the "save" option is selected there is no response.  No way to get out of the dialogue bar without closing the usps web site. Each time I've had to go into the account history file and claim a refund for the unprintable label. Options I've tried to solve issue:
    >added usps.com to trusted sites in IE under tools
    >enabled manage add-on for Acrobat Reader
    >disabled protected mode in IE options
    >unchecked "require server verification"
    >uninstalled and reinstalled latest versions of Acrobat 11; tried Acrobat 9 and 10 installs
    >did "repair" of Acrobat 11
    >reduced security levels for IE and USPS web site
    >uninstalled/reinstalled IE 9 and IE 8.
Each software provider claims the other's products are at fault, not theirs.

Thank you for your interest in my problem. USPS is the US Post Office.  Mailing labels can be created, paid for and printed on their website, usps.com. The labels are in pdf format and their application uses Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the file where the label resides and then print it.  Normally, you can  select either "print" or "save" to open the file where the label resides and then you again have the option to immediately print the label or save it to your "desktop."  I have printed or succcessfully saved  hundreds of these labels, despite changes in the various versions of Acrobat Reader, Internet Explorer (IE) and the USPS software. After returning from a 2 week vacation on Oct 1, I rebooted my PC to create and print some labels and the fun began.
The USPS software works perfectly until the print or save stage.  Using either prompt opens a bar in the lower part of the screen which then only offers the options of "save" or "cancel." ( So no way to print directly.)  If you attempt to "cancel" it does not respond - just starts the bar blinking a golden color.  If you attempt to "save," it opens to a screen to save to your desktop. When attempting to save at that point, the file will not save, there is no response.  The bar can not be closed, the save to desktop doesn't work, and there is no way out of the loop.  Even when closing or signing out of the website, the bar remains on the screen.  Only by closing and reopening Internet Explorer will the bar disappear.
USPS supervisor and tech persons claim the problem is with IE since their software works with other browsers, e.g. Google Chrome and Foxfire - which I have confirmed. It's just annoying and time consuming to have to exit IE everytime I want to create and print a label.  All other pdf files (whether downloaded from IE or created by myself) will print from IE using Adobe Acrobat Reader, just not the one associated with the USPS. What's astonishing is that the US Post Office doesn't mind that their program doesn't work with the world's most used web browser and they haven't been able to figure out why.  You would think either Microsoft (IE's publisher) and the USPS would want to do a fix.
I have scoured and tested all setup and setting options in the Adobe, IE, USPS software, including roll back to earlier versions and haven't been able to solve it on my own.

  • Adobe Acrobat Standard and Pro - dialog prompt when opening PDF from Internet Explorer 9

    Good morning.
I am having an issue where our ends users that have either Adobe Acrobat X Standard (AAXS) or Adobe Acrobat X Pro (AAXP) cannot open a PDF within Internet Explorer 9 without being prompted by a dialog box to OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Our user that have Adobe Reader X (ARX) only are ok. The ARX users can click on a PDF link within the browser and it will automatically open in a new tab. However, the AAXS and AAXP users will click on that same link, but are then prompted with a dialog box to either OPEN, SAVE or SAVE AS. Has any one else seen this before? We would like it to be so that all users - no matter what Adobe PDF program they are using of the 3 mentioned - can open a PDF link by just clicking on the link and no additional dialog options appear.
The ARX users have the same Internet settings within the Adobe preferences as the AAXS and AAXP users. The check box is checked to have PDFs open within the browser, which they do, but that dialog box always appears for AAXS and AAXP users. Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I stumbled across something today after posting. I had already known that If the ARX user also had one of the other products (AAXS or AAXP), then they would get the dialog box. Here is what I just figured out: if the user uninstalled ARX and re-installed (still having both ARX and AAXS or AAXP in the end) then they no longer get the dialog box. It seems like perhaps its an issue the AAXP and AAXS are overwriting something in the registry.

  • "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater"

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater is the error that jumps up when I try installing it. Currently this system is running Internet Explorer 7 which is installed at it's default location. Any clues what can have gone wrong?
    Version 7.0.5730.13
    Build 75730
Program path C:\Program\Internet Explorer (Swedish computer)
    Language Engelska (USA)

I came upon this post after receiving this error message when trying to install Acrobat 9. In my case, we deploy Acrobat from an Administrative Installation Point (AIP) using Group Policy. I believe the user at this computer pulled the plug while the group policy deployment was taking place. I got the error when trying to install the program manually afterwards.
I was able to rectify the issue by running msiexec.exe against the MSI in the AIP with the /x switch, performing an uninstall:
    msiexec /x \\server\deploy\AcrobatStandard9\acrostan.msi
(The program was not showing up in Add/Remove programs, otherwise I would have tried uninstalling from there.) After that, the install proceeded successfully.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Enable Commenting Tools in Adobe Acrobat under Browser Plug-in in Internet Explorer using

We have a problem in showing commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat under browser plug-in in Internet Explorer.  Adobe Support cannot answer my question and refer me to Devnet here.
Our system is using browser plug-in to display PDF file by Acrobat under > > Internet Explorer (document viewer). The PDF documents have reader extension enabled.
We supposed that if a PDF page is viewed and I customize the toolbar, the same toolbar and icon will be displayed next time when I retrieve a page, only if I select "Review and Comment" icon, and it only applies for v8.0.0. If I do not select review and comment icon, or I have selected review and comment icon but > > use other version of 8.x, my selected toolbar and icon cannot reappear next time.
If my selected toolbar and icon do not appear, I can press F8 to hide the icons. If press F8 again to unhide the icons, all my selected icons can be shown this time. But it does not automatically re-appear if I open another documet viewer.
Kindly note that all PDF files have reader extension enabled, and only Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional is used in client PC. There is no Adobe Reader in the PC. The PDF version is 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). The user has comment rights since the PDF file has reader extension and Acrobat 8.0.0 is used. User has no problem in mark-up the PDF files, but has problem in showing the selected tools.
    OS: Windows 2000 SP4
    Browser: IE 6.0 SP1
    Acrobat version: Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional
    PDF version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)
    Steps to produce the problem.
    1. Scan paper document and create a batch of PDF files (one page per file)
    2. Enable reader extension for all PDF files by LifeCycle.
    3. Put the PDF files into a web based interface, entering a page number will open a new web browser which interface the browser plug-in and display the content of the imaged PDF file by Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0.
    4. Open a page. It only show a few icons on toolbar (see a.png).
    5. Select the commenting icons to be shown (do not enabled in "review and comment)".  The icons will be shown.
    6. If the browser is closed, then use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools cannot be shown (same as a.png attached in my previous email).
    7. Select "review and comment" tool. (see b.png attached in my previous email)
    8. The selected tools are shown again (see c.png attached in my previous email).
    9. Close the browser, use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools are still here.
    10. Unselect "review and comment", the selected tools will be hidden next time when a page is opened by the web interface.
    11. Close the browser, and open a new page in web interface, the PDF file will be shown, and the selected icons are hidden.
    12. Press F8 to hide icons, all tools are hidden.
    13. Press F8 to unhide icons, all selected tools that are not shown in step 11 are shown again
    14. If Acrobat 8.0.0 is patched or updated, "review and comment" tool has no effect in "memorizing" the selected tools.

That option is nothing to do with the PDF being editable, it's to control the display of the toolbars. "Reading Mode" is when the toolbars are hidden and the black head-up display navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
PDFs displayed within a web browser with Acrobat/Reader X are not editable, nor can you apply markups, unless you're within a browser-based-review workflow. You have to save a copy locally and open it in desktop mode to make any changes.

  • Acrobat X Pro toolbar missing in Internet Explorer 9 / IE9

I just installed adobe Acrobat X Pro on a Windows Server 2008 R2. Everything seems to have installed fine and is working EXCEPT that the Acrobat toolbar is not being displayed in Internet Explorer (IE9). If I check under 'Manage Add-ons' the toolbar is displayed there as being incorporated and enabled... but it is not displayed or listed under 'View/Toolbars'.
Can anyone tell me how to get it to display??

In Adobe acrobat pro, go to the Edit/Preferences menu and select the internet menu and make sure the Display PDF in browser item is checked.
Click the Internet settings button and go to the advanced tab and make sure the Enable third-party browser extensions is checked.
THen open the 32 bit version of IE9.
