Acrobat 9.5 on Mac OS 10.6.8: How can I save a 11x17 PDF?

In Acrobat 9.5, "printing" to a PDF is done using the "PDF" >> "Save as Adobe PDF" dialog, not through a printer driver. I have been trying to save a PPTX (Mac:Powerpoint 2011) into 11x17 landscape, but the result is not what I want. Typically, the PDF output shrinks to 8.5x11. The PPTX file is setup as 11x17, so I would expect Acrobat to pick that up and produce a 11x17 PDF. Tested this with 2 different files - no luck. I have searched online for a solution and also tested the free CUPS PDF driver. I am beginning to suspect that perhaps this could be a limitation in PowerPoint. Regardless of the root cause for this issue: can you share a recommendation how to create a 11x17 PDF in the stated configuration, from Word or PowerPoint on a Mac? Thanks much.

Ok.. I've another set of steps through which you may obtain 11x17 without having to have the actual printer connected. First of all, remove all Printers from "Print & Fax" in "Settings" (you can always add them later).
This time, I have also put up the screenshot to help you in a better way, Request you to follow each of the steps carefully:-
Step 1:Open the PPTX file in Powerpoint 2011. (I am assuming that the PPTX file is already setup as 11 x 17 in). Go to File, Click on "Print".
As shown below, Click on "Page Setup" button.
Step 2: On the "Page Setup" dialog box, Click on "Options" button. (Refer to below Screenshot)
Step 3:Now select "Manage Custom Size" from the "Page Size" drop down menu. (Refer to below Screenshot)
Step 4:In the new dialog box, follow the steps as described in below screenshot.
Click on "+" sign
Enter a new configuration name, I had used "11x17". Remove any previously existing configurations if you are getting confused.
Enter the required width and height as 27.9 cm and 43.2 cm respectively.
Change all the values in the printable area to 0.
Click "OK"
Step 5: Select the paper orientation as shown below, and Click "OK"
Step 6: Select the Slides orientation as shown below and press "OK".
Step 7: In the "Print" dialogue box that now appears, you must see a drop-down menu right below Presets menu. In this menu, "Copies & Pages" is selected by default.
You need to select "Paper Handling" in this menu.
Step 8:Now the "Print" dialogue box may seem like below screenshot.
Select "11x17" from the "Destination Paper Size" menu. This is the same size that was configured earlier in Step 4.
Click on "PDF" button at left-bottom corner and select "Save as Adobe PDF"
Step 9: Click on "Continue" on the "Save as Adobe PDF" dialogue box and provide a suitable PDF name and destination in next dialogue box.
Step 10: A PDF by that name be produced at the location as specified in previous step.
I have also put up the screenshot of the PDF that I obtained. And, it's size is as expected (11 in X 17 in).
Let us know, if your problem is still not resolved.
Regards,
Shashi

  • My iPod was last synced on a Mac which was stolen. How can I save the music currently on it so when I use my new windows computer I won't lose everything?

I don't have access to any Mac computers, so I don't have that option at all.  And I'm not sure where any of my music was stored other than my iPod....it was possibly on another portable hard drive we still have so I might be okay, but I can't guarantee that.
Is there any way to save the music that's already on there, or is it going to automatically reset itself when I try to plug it in?
I have an older model iPod, if that makes a difference...can't remember exactly which but it's probably 2nd or 3rd gen.

Is there any way to save the music that's already on there
    Yes.
Launch iTunes on the new computer.
From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.
Connect the iPod to the P/C.
Now click File / Transfer Purchases From...

thanks.  your answer was correct, clearer.  I have another question, maybe you can answer.  I just purchase my ipad2 2 days ago.  yesterday, there was a sound.  today there is no sound.  there is a sound only in movies and you tube and music.  but no sound on all apps and keyboards.  I look it up and seems like ther are few that have this problem.  I called walmart coz I bought it there and they told me that they have not heard that before but if I can't fix it, just return it and exchange it with anew one since I have 14 days to do that.  I tried rebooting it and still won't work.  Should I just restore it?

  • How can I save text messages to my Mac and will that reduce "Other" in storage?

I have hundreds (or more) of text messages on my iPhone 5 that for personal reasons, I want to save. There are far too many to do screenshots. I want to save them to my MacBook Pro Retina in a readable and printable format. The reason is that I read that text messages can cause the "Other" storage to be higher. My "Other" is over 6 GB on a 16 GB iphone. Therefore I want to save texts, print them, and delete from phone.
First question: Is it true that text messages contribute to the size of "Other"?
Second question: How can I save texts to Mac in readable format so they could be printed?
Third question: How in the world do I delete all these texts from my iPhone efficiently? Is there a way to "mass delete"?
When you are answering this, perhaps it is noteworthy that:
    (a) I've had an iPhone since a 3G in 2009, and the texts I want to save have been accumulating since then.
    (b) My "Other" has gradually gotten larger over the years.
    (c)  I sync with itunes regularly.
    (d) I've never had any problems with an iphone or with my data.
    (e) I've restored from backup only three times, when I upgraded to the iphone 4, 4S, and 5.
I want to get this "Other" cleared up before I upgrade to the iphone 5S.
    Thank you.

    Regarding Mail being slow....
Is it only Mail that is slow?  How much free space on your drive? Use Disk Utility to find available space.

Copy the movie from the current library to the correct library.

my cd/dvd drive isn't working and i want to upgrade my mac os x10.5.8, how can i upgrade without the software CD

I think not.   You will need to order a disc from Apple quoting your serial number, as many of these discs are machine specific.   So unless you can get your drive working I think you will have to take a trip to an Apple store.
Indeed, you have an old computer that may not be worth the cost of repair ... but it is still worth seeking Apple advice and a visual inspection.   It just might be something not too drastic.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
If you have a PPC Mac you cannot sync your idevice without a newer computer.  See the end of this post for options.
If it says you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first:
    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After installing run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.

Options if you cannot upgrade:  iTunes Store purchases can already be downloaded directly. Use iTunes Match to put non-Store music in iCloud, then download to your device from there.  Backup your device directly to  iCloud over a wireless connection.  Photos can be downloaded from the Camera Roll using iPhoto or Image Capture.

I am running OS X 10.5.8 and don't see an iCloud icon in my system preferences.  I do see a Mobileme icon but I would like to have all my mac devices on iCloud.  How can I get iCloud on my desktop?

iCloud requires 10.7.2 or later. See the following about how to upgrade:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • How can I change the default pdf reader from the installed (but not yet registered) Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to Adobe Reader XI?

How can I change the default pdf reader from the installed (but not yet registered) Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to Adobe Reader XI? I'm having some hiccups getting Adobe to register the software, but since I set it as the default .pdf reader during setup, things try (and fail) to open in the as yet unregistered software. How can I change it temporariiy to the Acrobat Reader XI that I have installed?

    Anubha,
It worked! Thank you so much.
I'd opened file with the 'Open with' feature then clicking Adobe Reader,
but that didn't do it. When I used 'Open with', then 'Choose default
program...', it worked like a charm.
    Again, thank you!

  • My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it

My daughter forgot her Mac book pro password. How can I reset it?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.
