Acrobat 9 - Comment toolbar drops off in browser window

Hello,
We use a browser environment to comment on PDF documents and sometimes (about 5% of the time) with Acrobat 9 the "Comment" toolbar option does not appear (this does not happen with earlier versions of Acrobat). If I close the browser and Acrobat down then restart it appears again.
Does anyone know why this might sometimes happen?
Thanks.

Is IE9 Security preventing the download of the file?  IE9 has a security feature that does this and pops a dialog at the bottom of the browser window, you might want to check it out.

How can I prevent web pages from resizing and/or repositioning (hard to decide, which of these is a greater nuisance) my browser window with javascript in Safari 2.0.3?

    Hi funkbuero,
This can probably be accomplished with a technique similar to this. Some work will have to be put in though.

  • Acrobat X : no toolbar anymore in my browser

    Hello,
I updated Adobe Reader to the X version, but when I read a PDF from my Browser (Firefox 3.6.13), there is no Acrobat Reader toolbar (next page, adjust page to the pages width...) in the web page. It is very annoying.
Is there a way to get this toolbar ?
    Thanks.

Thanks, hitting F8 will reduce my irriation factor considerably.  It's much faster than the awkward method I was using of hiding the navigation pane and then clicking the Acrobat icon to get the menu bar.  I need to use the toolbar to print PDFs from Acrobat.  For some reason, the Firefox print menu won't work for me with PDFs -- no error box, printer dialog, or anything else for that matter. Save works with PDFs, just not printing them from the Firefox menu.
    Thanks again!

  • We use a plugin Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in Version 10.1.2 on a Mac to get the pdf to open in a browser window. Is there a later version or other method ?

We use a plugin Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in Version 10.1.2 on a Mac to get the pdf to open in Acrobat and the pdf display within the browser window, as within our Online artwork Approval system we use the Acrobat Annotations server to annotate pdfs and publish to the server
But we can no longer get this plugin to work! Is there a later version ? or is there another way of forcing the pdf to open in a Acrobat Reader application (not the Mac viewer) within the browser and not open another window to display the pdf in Acrobat?

The latest version is 11.0.6. Whether that's available to you depends on the version of Mac OS you're running.

  • Missing Commenting Toolbar for Acrobat Reader 9.3

Our company's standard desktop PCs run Acrobat 9.3.4 , Windows XP SPII (still), and IE 8.0
I have 2 PDF files, with the same Reader Extensions applied to both (commenting). The source of the PDF files was from Autocad (plant drawings). They are produced in exactly the same fashion , and in fact were generated within minutes of each other using an automated process.
What I am trying to say is that , from a PDF data structure point of view, these files are the same.
The PDF files are put on a web browser  and users can access and open them in Internet Explorer within our intranet.
I know that Reader Extensions works for both because when these PDFs are opened up on user's desktop PC  that only has Acrobat Reader in Internet Explorer we dynamically add annotations (using the Javascript API) to the PDF file as well as support other Reader Extension features such as spawning templates.
    Here is the problem.
One PDF file has the commenting and markup toolbar when opened.
The other PDF file does not.
And when I right click on the one that does not Commenting and Markup is NOT an option. I cannot find a way to enable this.
This is now a major problem for us as we would like to support adding comments to these PDF files.
I cannot fathom what the difference is that would trigger Acrobat to suppress/ show the toolbar for one file and not the other.
    So I have 2 questions.
    1. What stops Acrobat from showing the commenting toolbar?
    2. Is there some way through the Javascript API that I can force the commenting toolbar on for the PDF file that does not have it?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    We have found an answer.
I still do not know why there is inconsistent behaviour, but if we execute the following Javascript (we are putting it in the /After section), it enables commenting

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 STD, commenting toolbar

    Hi,
I've got an issue, when trying to review and comment on a PDF in internet explorer, the commenting toolbar doesn't appear. therefore i cannot comment and review pdf's.
    O.S. is Windows 7.
    Internet explorer 8.
    Adobe Standard 9.
I've done some troubleshooting by install Adobe 7 STD and Adobe 9 PRO, Both of these the commenting toolbar shows but not with Adobe 9 STD.
I've been struggling with this for the last two days, please help.

    Thank you for the response.
Do you know what the logic was to make such a dramatic change - since all the previous versions of Acrobat permitted the forms toolbar in the regular view?  They must have thought this format was better.  Any ideas?

  • Download of Acrobat 11.0.10 completes on Windows 8.1 but then the installation drops off

I was able to download Acrobat 11.0.10 OK, and then started the automatic installation through Windows 8.1, but then it just dropped off.  The desktop folder has a setup.exe in the Adobe Acrobat XI subfolder, but that also drops off mid-try.  I've rebooted in between installation tries.   Could this be a DLL conflict?

    Hi Irwin Gelman,

  • Comment toolbars in Acrobat Reader apparently changing in a Random fashion

I am coming across a problem with Reader Extension Enabled documents that are produced from Adobe Livecycle. On occasions the comment and markup tool bar changes with certain tools (notably the sticky note) appearing and others (Attach comment as file) disappearing. this happens between sessions of Reader being opened. It also appears to be random in it's timing and occurrence
Has anyone come across this sort of problem?

We haven't come across a cause or resolution for this. The only things we have discovered are:
The commenting toolbar resets to the default tools (Windows registry entries disappear)
It doesn't happen on every desktop or laptop
    It doesn't happen every time
We have been unable to reproduce it in tests
Sorry I can't be of further help at this time

  • Problems with enabling commenting toolbar on Reader 7

I have extended the commenting rights for a pdf with extensions server. I am running the evaluation version of extensions server. When I open the reader extended pdf inside the browser, it doesn't show up the commenting toolbar only in Reader 7. But if I open the same pdf in the local reader application, the commenting toolbar shows up. I am having hard time figuring out the issue. Does have any insight. Now this all works fine online, offline in Adobe 6. Reader 7 browser plugin has the problem.
One more thing. I installed Acrobat professional to just see if the commenting toolbar is enabled and I get this message after I click on the status at left bottom:
"This document restricts some acrobat features to allow for extendedfeatures in Adobe Reader. To create a copy of file document that is not restricted (and has not extended features in Adone Reader), choose File > Save a Copy."
    Any idea????

    Hi Sachin,
Just run into a solution. You should upgrage to Reader Extensions v7.0.2 for this to work. Read the section
"Enabling commenting in a PDF document rendered in a web browser"
in the ReadMe.htm file that accompanies Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions Version 7.0.2
The procedure described lets you enable Adobe Reader 7.0 and later to allow commenting when the PDF document is rendered in a web browser, similar to Adobe Reader 6.0.

  • Pro 9.0 crashes when using typewriter, touchup text, and comment toolbar

When I try to type something using the typewriter tool or commenting toolbar, I can type a few letters and then I get an error message saying Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. The error relates to the acrobat.dll file.
When I use the TouchUp text tool, I also get an error message but the file affected is the cooltype.dll file this time.
Anyone no how to fix this? I am using Windows XP.

frstrsystemI make a fix, here it is:
    1) I launch acropro 9 on the server, I go to the view->toolbars->tasks menu to  the "tasks" toolbar (which cause the crash).
    2) on the server, run regedit and go to current user\software\adobe\adobe acrobat\9.0 and export this hive on a file like acrobat9_user.reg
    3) create a acro9pro.cmd file with
    regedit /S n:\scripts\acrobat9pro_user.reg
    @start "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\" Acrobat.exe
save this file on the server
publish your app and call the CMD instead of the acrobat file
trick; you can map drive into the cmd so that user can access network shares and not only the server on.

  • IE 8.0 forces Acrobat 8.1.3 to open in browser

I am running XP SP3 and recently upgraded from IE 6 to IE 8.0 .
I had checked off Internet->"Display PDF in Browser" in the Acrobat 8.1.3 Preferences.  So with IE6, the PDF link opened in a new window.
With IE 8.0, even when this flag is checked off, it forces the PDF to open inside the browser window with Microsoft hijacking the window.
How do I override IE 8.0 and open in a new window?
    Thanks to all

  • Missing commenting toolbar in Shared Review

We have a situation with a shared review where one particular reviewer has different results with respect to seeing the comment toolbar depending on which initiator has processed the review file. This explanation is lengthy, but necessary for proper understanding of the whole picture. Everyone participating in this scenario are using Windows 7.
A document owner sent a pdf created from a Word document to a review initiator. There are two review initiators (both using Acrobat Pro 10.1.4); we’ll call them initiator-1 and initiator-2. Each initiator has a network site defined for holding the review comments; we’ll call them drive-1 and drive-2. Because the reviews need to have participants both inside and outside of our organization we switch the Identity in Acrobat Preferences to the document owner’s name and email address before setting up the shared review. That enables Acrobat to generate an email for external participants who cannot publish their comments to our internal server to get the pdf back to the owner.
Initiator-1 opened the pdf, switched the identity to the doc owner, set up a shared review on drive-1, and then sent the “test-1_review.pdf” file to initiator-2, the document owner, and another reviewer.
Intitiator-2 (using Acrobat Pro 10.1.4) and the other reviewer (using Reader 10.1.4) open the review file and see the normal commenting toolbar. The document owner (using Reader) cannot see the commenting tools at all. In previous reviews this doc owner has been able to see and use all commenting tools with pdf files created by initiator-2 using drive-2 as the network share.
In an effort to troubleshoot the problem, initiator-2 uses the same original pdf file (with a slight name change to distinguish files), switches identities in Preferences to the doc owner, sets up a shared review on drive-2, and sends “test-2_review.pdf” to the document owner and the other reviewer. This time the document owner sees commenting tools as normal.
Thinking this outcome points to something different on the network drive, intiator-2 goes through the process again, this time using drive-1 as the comment repository. The document owner opens the file and sees all commenting tools.
As a troubleshooting step, the document owner uninstalls Reader and Java, reinstalls both, reboots, and tries opening the review file again. Same results: no commenting tools.
Knowing that users with Acrobat seldom have problems with commenting toolbars, the doc owner downloads the trial version of Acrobat from the Adobe site. Upon opening the review pdf, the document owner sees the comment tools as normal.
While using the Acrobat trial version is a temporary solution the document owner does not want to spend the money on the real version. Although we have not tested the process with other document owners, it is possible that others will experience the same trouble and the expense would be too great to get everyone Acrobat.
Any ideas what may be causing this? We need to have initiator-1 be able to use drive-1 to handle the process for her group.

I believe this is occuring because you're changing the identity to the document owner and then sending for shared review and Acrobat is keeping tabs on who initiated the shared review. Then, this same individual is opening the file in Reader, which is causing confusion. If you're concerned about how to send to external participants, all you need to do is start a shared review and then attached the shared review pdf to an email message for the external participants. They will receive the PDF and be able to return their comments via email since they cannot publish their comments to the server.
