Acrobat 9 constantly configures ... ?

Acrobat 9 Standard constantly configures ...
Acrobat 9 on Windows XP SP3.
I did a complete removal of all parts/pieces of old versions of Reader & Standard before installing the full version of Acrobat 9 Standard from CD.
Acrobat works as expected except:
Everytime I right click the Recycle Bin (or any other desktop icon), I get a Windows Installing prompt while "Acrobat 9 is configured".  I can cancel the installation and finally get to the really Recycle bin prompt.  This happens on almost every desktop icon I right click on.
OK,  so I allow the Installation to configure Acrobat 9 to run its course.  Then everything works until ...
I turn the computer off and then back on again.
Then the whole "Windows Installation" prompt starts all over again.
What's causing the Acrobat to configure itself on every desktop icon right click?
What causes Acrobat to go through this cycle after each boot up even if allowed to "configure" itself on the previous booted up session?
This is getting to be a real pain.
Thanks, dtipton61

No error message.  Just Acrobat is trying to close and poof, it's gone.
I have one particular form that I know has to be "certified" to work.  It
used to be that if I tried to run a non-certified version I got an error
message.  Now it just crashes.
Currently I'm working on importing data from one open file (app.activeDocs)
to another.  Must be if there's an error it just crashes.  Used to be you'd
get an error message.
I just repaired the app.  But I did that a couple weeks ago.  It was better
for a while.....  I'm thinking of going back to develop in 8 if this
continues!!  But I like 9 for forms so much better!

  • Acrobat X Pro: Configuration error when viewing pdfs

    Hi all,
A colleague is having problems viewing pdfs in Acrobat X Pro. After a fresh install, things are fine for a while, then after some random time, when he opens a pdf, he can view the pdf for a few seconds, then the following error pops up and and Acrobat stops working.
    Configuration error
Please uninstall and reinstall the product.
If this problem still occurs, please contact Adobe technical support for help and mention the error code shown at the bottom of this screen.
    Error: 6
    http://www.abobe.com/support/
Anyone have any ideas what's causing this and how to resolve?
    Thanks,
    Amber
    Update: version is 10.1.0
Also, the error occurs when just opening Acrobat, without opening a pdf at the same time.

I have exactly the same problem with Acrobat X Standard. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software - no success. I chatted with a Adobe supporter @ USA for 30 minutes - when he realized that I'm running a German Windows 7, he declared himself as not competent - quite weak. The German support answered with "Adobe doesn't support OEM products" (Acrobat came preinstalled by DELL). The DELL support declared it a Adobe problem - which seems correct to me. Classic catch 22.
I'm very disappointed with Adobe ...

  • Acrobat trying to "configure" when any file is right clicked

    Hi folks,
I have the CS3 Master Collection, and I uninstalled it to do the trial of CS4 Master Collection, I gave the CS4 a whirl to see if I wanted to do the upgrade but I decided to wait. So I uninstalled CS4 Master Collection then reinstalled the CS3 Master Collection. Now whenever I right click on ANY file it starts the little configuration window for Acrobat. I have tried the CS4 cleaner and the CS3 cleaner, but after a fresh install of my CS3 Master it still does that annoying little problem. I did look in my log files here on Vista 32bit and it does say on one that it failed to see Elements, and Distiller as well. They were both registry problems. I have also ran CCleaner as well. Does anybody have a solution? Much appreciated if you do.

    Thanks Bob,
Yes it is Acrobat 8, and it is at the update version of 8.13
Is there yet another update to do? It didn't say there was. I had done a previous upgrade from XP Pro 32bit to Vista Ultimate 32bit without any issues with CS3 Master (CS3 was fully updated). I will look yet again. Thank you for your help.

  • Install Just Adobe Pdf Printer 9.0. I already have acrobat 9 pro configured

I just installed acrobat 9 pro but declined to install the adobe Pdf printer 9 when the installer asked.
I now find I will need Adobe Pdf printer 9.0.
How can I install just this Adobe printer from the DVD?
I cannot access any custom install features from the dvd as this is a braindead drag and drop into the applications folder type of installer.

I found this and it worked.

  • Crystal reports XI Release 2 constantly configuring after SP4 installed

I had this issue before and bookmarked it before SAP bought businessobjects and now that solution forum thread no longer exists. But there is some problem with updating the registry when installing sp2 or Sp4 on Crystal Reports XI 2.
After the successfull install of SP4 upon restarting the application I receive the following messages:
"Please wait while windows configures Crystal Reports XI Release 2"
    "Server Busy... switch... Retry"
Every time I start Crystal Reports I have to clear these annoying messages before I can use the application. Does anyone on this forum recall how to fix this nagging issue? I recall there is some registry hack to perform that remedies this issue but I don't remember the specifics. Thanks!!!

not sure if any one tried this, but it worked for me with Xi/R2, SP5 on a Win2003 std server.
the event log showed the following:
    'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\Keycodes\CR Ent\Serial' does not exist.
the entire "CR Ent" key was missing.  after adding this key and string value "Serial",  I entered my registration code.  the configurng process did run one more time but very quickly this time.
the next time I launched Xi it did ask me again for my registration number, but since this point the application starts up just fine.
    hope this helps someone else.

  • Adobe Acrobat Custom Install Configuration Problem

I am trying to deploy Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional using the Adobe Customization Wizard 8. I noticed that if I just install the product off the CD, while accepting the defaults, the installation shows up under Add/Remove Programs as Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and has an installation size of just over 1 GB.
I also customized the installation using the Customization Wizard and after that install I noticed that the application shows up in Add/Remove Programs as Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional English, French, Deutch. In addition, the installation size is almost 2 GB.
What am I missing in my customization? Is there a setting for additional languages that I am not seeing somewhere that also uses twice the amount of hard drive space?

There is a help document from adobe regarding Exit code 6 and Error: DW050
Here are the links for those documents : (These documents are for CS5, CS5.5 and applicable to CS6 also)
    https://help-internal.adobe.com/content/help/en/creative-suite/kb/errors-exit-code-6-exit. html
    https://help-internal.adobe.com/content/help/en/creative-suite/kb/installation-error-dw050 -dw020-cs5.html
If all other applications are running fine, than try the Acrobat cleaner tool to remove any leftover files from this link( http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html ) and than try to Install Acrobat XI Pro on your computer.

  • Acrobat 9 Properties bar greyed out for highlighting

I have posted on this issue last year, and also wrote to one of the admins -- all without any solutions, and the problem remains as bad as ever.  I imagine there are a lot of other people running into this.
Acrobat 9 Properties bar greyed out (or disappears entirely) when text selected: it happens to me CONSTANTLY, using both Acrobat 8 Pro & Acrobat 9 Pro, all fully updated.  Tech support is useless and refuses to acknowledge or solve this extremely annoying problem.
I need to highlight text (using different opacities of highlighting) in a variety of PDFs: scanned-ClearScan OCR, ebooks, downloaded journal articles, etc.  None of them are "restricted" in any way for security, commenting, etc.
Within a few minutes of editing, when I go to highlight some text or change opacity, one of two things will happen spontaneously.
    1) Properties bar disappears entirely when text selected (erroneously changes to "No current selection")
    or
    2) Properties bar suddenly greyed out when text selected
It is absolutely inconceivable that Adobe is unaware of this absurd defect -- and is unwilling or unable to fix such a simple functionality so that it works consistently and correctly!
And no, this is not a matter of "turning on/off" the bar using <cntrl-E> -- that's irrelevant to this defect.
And furthermore, commenting text formatting changes are not retained when set as new default (e.g., opacity of highlighting changes randomly from 20% > 60%, etc.)
And I don't want to reset all toolbars, because I have them customized just-so.
Can someone with more expertise PLEASE, PLEASE explain this problem or suggest a fix?
    thank you,
    calguy2010

    Assumptions for this test:
    1.  Acrobat has been configured so that the "Text Box Tool" (part of the  "Comment & Markup Toolbar") is visible on the toolbar.
(Tools --> Customize Toolbars... may need to be used to se this up)
    2. The "Properties Bar" is visible (a Ctrl-E should bring it up if it is not already so)
If you had to make changes to get this configuration set, close all Acrobat windows before proceeding so that the settings will be remembered and used when new windows are open.
    ******BUG******
Text box TEXT PROPERTIES only accessible in most recent file opened.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
      1. Open a 1st PDF
      2. Open a 2nd different PDF
      3. Arrange so both are visible.
      4. in the 1st PDF create a text box and notice how the window for the 2nd PDF gets the TEXT BOX PROPERTIES BAR
      5. notice how there is no way to change the text box properties in the first window.
Results: Text box properties can only be changed in the most recently opened window.
Expected results: Text box properties should work for all windows!
Note that no properties (color, fill, font, ...) of any object (line, rectangle, callout, ...) can be changed using the Properties Bar if the properties bar is not part of the last window opened.
The only kludgy workaround I've found is that if I need a working properties bar in a particular window I can:
    1) save the file to capture any outstanding changes that might not have been captured (this is an optional step)
    2) make a throw-away minor change to the file (I usually draw a short line segment)
    3) Go to File --> Revert (& Confirm)
The file will close and reopen without the throw-away change and it will now be the last file opened so it will now have a working properties bar.
Go here and report it and perhaps if they hear from enough of us they will take the time to do something about it.

  • Creating an automated silent install of Acrobat using InstallShield Tuner - Part 1

For anyone who has tried to use the InstallShield Tuner application you'll know how buggy the program is and be aware of the lack of support from Adobe. After 4 months working on and off I managed to get a (mostly) working silent install. I thought I would share my findings with everyone so as to help prevent a few headaches.
Note I am based in England and some of my comments may not apply to US customers.
    ================================
Acrobat 6.0.1 Admin Install Point Creation & Maintenance
    Creating the Install Point
    1. Copy files to the network share that will be your Admin Install Point.
For Acrobat Professional these files are on the Acrobat CD
For Acrobat Reader you will need to download the latest version from www.adobe.com. Adobe is using a new compression package called Netopsystems FEAD Optimizer to deliver its Acrobat Reader application. To extract the files double click the downloaded .exe file and wait until the actual Reader installation begins. The uncompressed files are temporarily stored in %system root%\Cache\Adobe Reader 6.x.x\ENUBIG. Copy these files to the network share.
Once the installation files are copied to the network share select them, right click, choose properties, switch off read-only attribute for all files (inc sub folders).
    2. Install the InstallShield Tuner 6.0.1 from Adobe Acrobat
    (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/deployment.html)
    3. Install the software that you intend to create a .MST file for (Acrobat Reader or Pro) and update it to the same version number as the Tuner (6.0.1 at the time of writing). The latest Acrobat can be downloaded from Adobe as can patches for Acrobat Professional.
Note: After further investigation his step may not be necessary.
    4. Due to a bug in the InstallShield Tuner the PCs language and regional settings must all be set to English US. (START Menu Settings Control Panel Regional and Language Options). Set everything to English US.
    5. Run InstallShield Tuner 6.0.1 for Adobe Acrobat and when prompted choose Rdr60ENU.itw (for Acrobat Reader) or AcroPro.itw (for Acrobat Writer Pro). These files can be found in the location you specified in step 1.
    Acrobat Reader Configurataion
    1. When prompted choose Create a New Transform
    2. Select Adobe Reader 6.0.1.msi as the base .MSI file
    3. Give the .MST file a name
    4. Click Create (this may take a minute to process)
    5. Configure your install options
    6. File - Save
    Acrobat Writer Pro Configuration
    1. When prompted choose Create a New Transform
    2. Select AcroPro.msi as the base .MSI file
    3. Give the .MST file a name
    4. Click Create (this may take a minute to process)
NOTE: Do not click on the Organisation Product Properties field. If you do the installer will return a transform error when you try to deploy Acrobat. Instead enter these details in the Abcpy.ini file and via the command line. (See step 5)
    5. Amend the Abcpy.ini file as below:
ISX_SERIALNUMBER=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (where xxxx is your serial number)
USERNAME=xxxxxxxxxx (where xxxx is the users name)
Company name should be entered from the command line (See Installing Acrobat Writer section below)
    6. Features
Configure which features are to be installed
    7. Preferences
    Configure your install options
    8. File - Save
    Continued in Part 2

Running into the same issue over here. It seems like it has to do with applying a transform to the installation, so it could be related with a particular setting put in place using the Adobe Customization Wizard.
It's really kind of hit or miss, because it appears to affect those with previous versions of Acrobat or Reader installed, but that isn't always the case.
Had this happen to systems that haven't had any sort of Adobe product installed prior.
It's always the same thing too. Error 1603 is spit out after it can't remove select files in C:\Windows\Installer
After digging through the system, the files that it's looking to delete aren't even there to begin with.

  • Problems opening PDFs created with Acrobat in TFS

    Hi,
I know this might not really be a supported issue, but any thoughts you might have would be appreciated!
I've been creating PDFs using Primo PDF and a trial of Acrobat X. I then put them on TFS / MS Visual Studio 2000.
So, when I try to open a PDF I've checked in, the ones I've created in Primo are fine and launch whereas the ones created in Acrobat won't open and an error message about Inconsistent Line Endings is displayed.
    It says:
"The line endings are not consistent. Do you want to normalize them....
    Line ending: Windows (CR LF)"
The PDFs DO work when I open them from the normal place in the windows file system. However, when I try to "normalize" them by clicking yes, it breaks them completely.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? I'm assuming it must be something to do with the conversion or document settings, because this only happens to PDFs created with Acrobat.

In Acrobat X, SharePoint Integration has been added which allows users to check-out/check-in the document from within Acrobat. Clicking the file from document library in Internet Explorer opens the file in Acrobat. The configuration that needs to be done on the SharePoint server is explained in the following KB article in section 11.1.

  • Problem in openig some PDF file names in Acrobat Reader

I didn't test in other versions of the OS or with other versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader, but in Windows 7 Enterprise (with SP1) 64 bit, vith virtual apllications service installed, when a PDF file has in the name the letters CR (caps), tries to open Adobe Acrobat Reader with the VAppLaucher and says
"Before proceeding you must first lauch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User Licence Agreement",
even with the normal Adobe Acrobat Reader already configured in the local machine.
As soon as I change the name of the PDF file, it works without any problem.

    Hi,
This bug was fixed with the latest release of Adobe reader i.e. Version 10.1.1 (Please refer to the Bug Fixes section in http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.1.pdf).
Please update to the latest version, by clicking on Help > Check For Updates or try downloading the patch from: http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.1/misc/AdbeRdrUpd1011.msp
    Hope this helps

  • Problems opening PDFs from SharePoint 2007 with Acrobat X Pro

We are currently migrating to Windows 7 x86, Acrobat X Pro, and Office Pro Plus 2010 SP1. Our old setup is Windows XP, Acrobat 8 Pro, and Office 2007. We are using SharePoint 2007. On our older machines, we are able to open and edit PDFs without any problems. However, on our newer machines with Acrobat X, we get this error whenever we open a PDF for editing:
The document could not be opened for editing. A Windows SharePoint Services compatible application could not be found to edit the document.
All of our XP users can open and edit documents without any problems--only our newly migrated Windows 7 users are unable to edit these documents. Is there a setting that I need to adjust in Acrobat X? I don't recall seeing any Acrobat X specific options in SharePoint configuration. Thanks!
EDIT: I was able to open and edit a PDF document using the following steps:
    1. Click drop-down menu next to document and select "Check Out."
    2. In the check-out dialog box, check "Use my local drafts folder." Click OK.
    3. Back in SharePoint, click on document to open--click OK to message warning about malicious files.
    4. Edit document, then click Save button. Close Acrobat.
    5. Back in SharePoint, click drop-down menu next to document and select "Check In."
    6. Confirm the check-in.
    7. Redirected back to document library and the modified date and by fields are updated.
This seems like an awful amount of steps. Is there a way to make this function the same when a user edits a Word or Excel document?

  • Documents open in separate Acrobat Window  Acrobat 9 Pro

When I open multiple documents in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, each opens in a separate window.
In Acrobat 6 Pro, all files opened in the same window, & I could select which was displayed in the 'window' menu, or I could cascade or tile the documents.
Can Acrobat 9 be configured to open multiple documents without opening separate windows for each? If so, can it be easily switched back & forth?
    Thanks in advance,
    Norm

This is the worst thing to happen to acrobat, in my opinion.
The clutter that it creates on my computer and the fact that i cant even see the document title when I have a bunch of them open (because the task bar is too full) is unacceptable.
I never would have changed from Acrobat 8 if I had known, and now I cant switch back (company license).
The latest thing i can find about addressing it is here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405108&sliceId=1
    which was in november 2008....
why hasnt any thing else been done about it?  I just spent 45 minutes being sent to different departments over the phone, only to be told to submit a feature request.
Please do this if you havent already:

  • Acrobat XI Quit Working

My desktop running Windows 7 purchased from individual 6 months ago loaded with numerous Adobe applications.  No disks with computer.  Never a problem with opening PDF documents until about 2 weeks ago unable to open any PDFs and getting error popup for Acrobat XI saying "configure error No. 16.  Remove & reinstall application".  Can't seem to do that so guess I need a disc?  Assume what I had was a trial version.  Does that sound like a correct assessment?

Most folks report a notice of trial time running out, not the type error you are getting. There is a question of whether the Acrobat license is now your's and I am not one to really answer such a question. This is kind of a transfer I would guess. Since you are not the one who probably registered it, Adobe will probably not talk to you about it. You might be stuck unless you can get the SN. The install file should be the same as the trial version. Even if you get to work, you need to pursue info on the SN and such to be sure you have a legit copy.
As for your problem, try going to Start>Control Panel>Programs & Features. Then do a repair of Acrobat. After the repair, then do repairs (that assumes the repair is successful.
