Acrobat 9 crashes after startup window
when I start Acrobat 9, it crashes right after the main window opens with a "
Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." erroe.
I had it working on this machine but must have done something to break it. My 9.0 is an upgrade from 7.0. I started from scratch, loaded 7.0 from the CD, then loaded 9.0 from my on-line purchase, to not avail. Same issue.
One thing I did do (can't remember why) is to uninstall Adobe Type manager from Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs. Could this be the cause? How do I reinstall ATM?
PLEASE help!!! Desperate!
Bill:
Thanks for all the tips. Actually I already did most of this (multiple times) to no avail.
· I’m running Win XP Pro SP3 on a Dell Latitude D630 laptop with 2GB memory.
· I Bought Acrobat 7 Standard (it came bundled with my scanner) so I do have that CD and the key
· I purchased the upgrade to Acrobat 9 Standard on-line for $99.
· Actually, everything was working fine until I uninstalled ATM. (I did that because my laptop wouldn’t undock or hibernate and I read that ATM could be the cause.)
· I’ve done several repairs from Control Panel. Didn’t help.
· Finally, this morning I decided to uninstall everything and install a trial version of Adobe 9 PRO from their web site. That didn’t work either.
· I notice that none of these actions has brought ATM back. On the other hand, I can’t find a place from where I can download ATM either.
Here’s the really funny thing. Acrobat is not completely broken. I can actually get it to work for the first few seconds. And if I type real fast, I can even save the pdf file that it opens before it crashes! For example, if I click on a pdf file on a web page and it is small enough that it opens right away, I can click the save button and hit OK immediately (don’t mind where it saves the file, I can find and move it later) before I get the “Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” message. The same happens if I just open Acrobat and let it sit. It doesn’t crash immediately. It takes about 5 seconds before it does.
This should give a clue as to where/why it is crashing.
Tomorrow I’m going to try and get Adobe on a chat line and have them take a look.
Let me know if you get any other good ideas. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Thanks,
Jamshed Mulla

Indesign CC crashes after startup - Windows 8
Hi everyone,
Have been searching for an answer to this but I haven't seen anyone having this problem on a Windows machine. Hopefully someone here can help me!.
I installed Creative Cloud a couple of days ago and installed Indesign CC for the 30 day trial. The Indesign UI loads, but crashes right after.
Creative Cloud also told me there was an update to Indesign, so I've installed that too and still have no luck.
I'm using Windows 8 64-bit (and attempting to use the 64-bit version of Indesign too), 8GB of RAM, i7-3632QM processor. Shouldn't be anything there to cause any problems. Thanks for the information.
Indesign loads up normally, then the "days remaining of trial" box appears, then right after I get the generic Windows "Adobe Indesign CC has stopped working" error.
I had some of the fonts that were causing other users problems. I removed them but it still made no difference.
I also navigated to the folder where the preferences are meant to be, but it's empty - I'm presuming because I haven't yet been able to fully open the program. -

HP Pavilian m7050y & Monitor HP vs 19c keeps crashing after installing windows 7
Hi Forum Experts, hope all is well. Hopefully someone will be able to help me with this problem.
My HP Pavilian m7050y & Monitor HP vs 19c keeps crashing after installing windows 7.
I knew there was a problem when I first installed windows, because the windows logo was not centered on the monitor after intial startups. I did adjust it a little by pressing auto/select on my monitor, and that helped with the centering a bit but it is not perfectly centered.
The screen goes blue and this is the message I get when it crashes and restarts.

Bizarre Crash After Startup problem
I have been having a very annoying problem with my PB for a while now that came to a head earlier today. All relevant software updates have been installed.
Recent changes: upgraded from 1 to 2GB of RAM.
Very shortly after startup (usually within a minute) the machine crashes. I have noticed 4 different presentations:
1). This is the most common. The screen will "blip" after which the computer no longer accepts any commands, though I can still move the cursor around. Most of the time, right after the screen blip, a tight row of small vertical multi-colored lines will appear somewhere on the screen.
2) No screen "blip" but the comptuer still freezes. Usually this occurs after logging in but before the desktop fully loads, though sometimes this happens immediately after the desktop finishes loading. Usually I will not have cursor control after this.
3) Screen blip, with cursor control, but the computer has crashed. Then the "beach Ball" appears for a few seconds, followed by the pointing hand cursor (when the hand should not appear).
4) This is the rarest type of crash. The screen will blip, I will lose cursor control, then the screen slowly starts fading away to white (one horizontal line at a time).
The bizarre thing is that once I restart, only very rarely will it crash a second time. It will work perfectly and remain stable as long as I need it to. But once the computer has sat idle for abour 6 hours or more (typically overnight), it will be prone to a freeze again within a minute of being used. It does not matter whether it had been shut down completely, put into Sleep, or just left sitting idle.
I had initially thought that perhaps the problem was related to a recent RAM upgrade (though of course the problem didn't begin in earnest until AFTER the 14 day return period for the RAM had expired), but because of what happened earlier today, I no longer believe that to be the case.
Today I found it necessary to take the computer on the road with me. I had only planned on using it for a few minutes (I just needed to show someone reference photos for a project we were working on) so I didn't bother to bring the power adapter with me (plus I hadn't felt like crawling under my desk to retrieve it).
Once I got there, the comptuer crashed immediately (it had been asleep). But this time, instead of settling down after the first crash, it kept crashing. Reboot after reboot after reboot and I couldn't get more than about a minute out of it before it crashed again. I tried removing and reseating the RAM to no avail. I stubbornly kept trying though about 20 reboots. Finally, having lost my patience (and suppressing an urge to hurl the machine through a window) I left it where it was (in the care of a friend) drove home, got the power adapter and went back. I plugged it in, started it up, it crashed once, then settled down and was usable again.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this? I hope it isn't something that will require me to get a new machine. I use this one every day and can't afford to replace it right now. Thank you in advance.
EDIT: I haven't tried reinstalling the old RAM to see if that solves the problem, but based on what happened while on battery, I no longer believe it's a RAM related issue.

I did try reinstalling the original RAM. With the old RAM in place, the problem persists. If anything it's even worse now. Now the comptuer is susceptible to crashing at pretty much any time. It's getting to the point where it's almost unusable.
I'm not sure if it will help, but at one point I took a digital picture of the screen after a crash. This shows what is typical of the "type 1" crash. Since apparently images aren't allowed here, here's a direct link to the photo.

Palm Desktop crashes after updating windows
Palm Desktop crashes on startup since I updated Windows XP (yesterday). Palm Desktop prompts me for password (as set up) but crashes immediately after that which invokes the odious Windows message: "Palm Desktp has detected a problem and must close - send message report?". I already tried unistalling and reinstalling Palm Desktop without success. Does anybody have any pointers? Thanks in advance.
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)Sounds like your data has been corrupted, possibly your calendar,
There is a few things to try.
1. If your default calendar view is the month, I would do this step first. Change your date on your computer to two months in the future or past, then try to relaunch palm desktop. Let me know if it launches and I will tell you how to fix that.
2. If your default calendar view is not the month, the do this step. Locate your user folder it is in my documents/palm os desktop/variation of hotsync id
Once you find the hotsync id folder. Grab that and move it to your desktop so it is no longer in the palm os desktop folder. Then try to relaunch palm desktop
Let me know if either one of these steps let you open palm desktop then we will go into fixing them.

Itunes crashing on startup - Windows 8.1
Hi since upgrading to Windows 8.1 I've had nothing but problems with itunes. Since downloading the latest Microsoft release for 8.1 my Itunes constantly crashes on startup. I've tried removing and reinstalling itunes, still didnt work. I then tried running itunes in various compatibility modes eg windows 7 etc, still not working. To be honest I feel this is a poor show that two major worldwide programs fail to work together on Windows 8.1. Any help in getting itunes to work would be gratefully received. Thanks J
Have you gotten any help with this issue anywhere else?

IMac 24" OS X 10.5.8 crashes after startup
After startup, my iMac crashes after a short while (from 10 seconds up to 10 minutes). The screen freezes and the keyboard doesn't respond. I can't click, however, i can move the cursor around. This iMac was bought 2008 and I've never had any problems like this before, and I have no idea what made it behave this way. (I noticed it had crashed when I tried to wake it up from sleep mode a couple of days ago.)
Things I tried that didn't fix the problem:
1. Shutting down and disconnecting power cord for 30 seconds
2. Reseting PRAM
3. Created a new login-account
4. Repaired disc permissions in Disc Utilities
5. Hardware test (holding "d" during startup)
(OBS. I've tried the extended hardware test several times but sooner or later it crashes, always before the test is finished!)
In Safe Mode (holding "shift" during startup) though, it doesn't crash, but then I can't have sound etc.
What kind of problem could this be? What should I do?You mentioned running Apple Hardware Test however I'm guessing you may not have run in Extended Mode. If you did not then you really haven't tested it. When you start AHT look for Extended Mode and follow the instructions. This test will take significantly longer to do. My guess is you have temp sensor or HD problem.
Another thing you can do is run Activity Monitor when operating normally and look to see if you have any processes that are using a lot of %CPU, if you do that's a sign you have a problem process. You can also look for how much FREE RAM you have (it's under the System Memory tab) however being low on RAM would not cause a crash it would cause a slowdown. -
Skype 7.6 crashes on startup Windows 8.1
Hello, I've been having this problem for over a week, have searched these forums and have tried multiple solutions that have been posted on different threads regarding skype crashing on startup, but to no avail. When I start up skype, I get the spinning wheel and then a message that says "Skype has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, etc." I have tried reinstalling skype, installing various versions, and nothing seems to work. I'm running IE11 with default settings and my Adobe Flash is up to date. To expedite this process, I have ran the dxdiag.exe and have attached a .zip of the file. Also, I booted my computer in safe mode and tried running Skype 7.6, and got this specific error message. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kevin
Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool. Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

Firefox 4.0.1 crashes on startup (windows xp)
Since I upgraded to the new firefox (4.0.1) it crashes on startup.
(By crash, i mean the mozilla crash reporter appears and goes no further)
I am running windows xp.
Here is what i have tried so far:
- uninstalled & reinstalled firefox
- restart in safe mode (causes crash reporter to appear too)
- uninstalled google desktopOnly I upgraded to firefox 4 while it was in beta and never had any problems like this. It took the final version to have problems. I truly miss my Firefox 4.
it crashes on start up with tabs open. sometimes i can tell it not to open my tabs and it'll run until I open up some tab that causes things to crash. but once it crashes it wont run until i close all the tabs. but on other occassions it just crashes.

Labview 2010 crash at startup windows 7
Hi,
Labview crashes on startup. I get this message: "Labview 10.0 Development System has stopped working." I don't get any further than this.
I have 95 computers running Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise. To install Labview on these I use the automated installer with these options: "/q /acceptlicenses yes /r:n /applyspecfile k:\zfdmsi\Labview2010\yellow1\".
This was working on Windows XP. I have tried to install Labview manually on one of the windows 7 computers and it works fine.. But I cant do that on 95 computers...
Any ideas why it's crashing?
Thanks in advance.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Yes, m: is a network drive. We have a local policy on all workstations redirecting My Documents to the M: drive.
I got the issue resolved by installing Labview 2010 SP1 -
Most applications are crashing after startup!
Using 10.5.7 on a Mac Mini purchased last December (so not current generation, last generation).
Suddenly last night, most applications are crashing right after they go through their startup process.
-Cocktail
-Firefox (reinstalled latest version last night)
-iChat
-Safari is working but has crashed after being used for a little while.
-Disk Utility is working (and I've checked disc permissions and repaired them)
-Time Machine stalls on "preparing backup" but does not crash.
I tried deleting preferences for Firefox and iChat - didn't help. Reinstalled Firefox. Didn't help.
Tried the 10.5.7 combo update. Didn't help.
Haven't tried anything else cause I'm getting tired of all the crashing!Try the steps outlined in the following post. Although it was written for Mac OS X 10.4, it's still valid for 10.5...

Mail 4.2 crashes after startup
Mail 4.2 has started to crash after each launch. The app opens, goes to get mail from 4 accounts and then the crash log appears. Is this a delete plist issue? If so, which one(s), please?
Hi Mik:
Is this a delete plist issue?
Maybe. However, try rebuilding the mailbox(s) first.
If that does not work, the preference file would be com.apple.mail.plist - located in your home folder (~library>preferences). Be sure to archive your mailboxes or back up first (Time Machine or some other method).

Motion keeps on crashing after startup on MBP 2,33
there have been a couple of post of motion crashing after launching - I thought the new Apple Software Update 1.1 would fix it, but now I had to realize that is only for mbp 2,2 or 2,4 - so what do I do with my mbp 2,33?
Is there hope out there that I will be able to finally run the app on my mac?
thanks, roman

This Crossgrade was a paid upgrade, $50 for FCS users, $99 for FCP users, and $199 for other Pro App users. This Crossgrade brought the version of Final Cut Pro from 5.0.4 to 5.1. This also included Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack Pro, and DVD Studio Pro.
This program lasted over a year and was even extended a few times, but was discontinued right before the release of Final Cut Studio 2. In order to properly utilize the Intel Processor, you will need a "Universal" version of Motion. Version 2.1 is no longer available through Apple. The only version you can now purchase via Apple is 3.0, which is only available as a bundle with Final Cut Studio 2.
However, since you own a previous version of Final Cut Studio, you don't need to pay the full retail price for Final Cut Studio 2. There are "upgrades" available at a reduced price. See the Apple Store for more information.
