Acrobat 9 disappeared

Hi,
I had an "authentication code required" so open photoshop was the message whenever I tried to open Acrobat 9.
So I re-installed the Design premium suite and Acrobat X Pro is there but not Acrobat 9 which is what I need to build a form.
Please help?
Thanks
Marton

  • Acrobat disappears after updates

    Hi,
I'm using Adobe's Technical Communication's Suite at work. Our Technical Writing Team is in the process of upgrading from FrameMaker 8 to FrameMaker 9 so I have both TCS1 and TCS2 installed at the moment.
I was notified of available Adobe updates and updated the software, but after they were complete my Adobe Acrobat disappeared. I couldn't find a solution, so I unistalled and reinstalled the part of TCS2 containing Adobe Acrobat.
That solved the problem until our IT department did software upgrades. Now Acrobat has disappeared again.
Has anyone else encountered a problem like this? Is there a solution besides reinstalling the program everytime somethins is updated?
    Thanks!

What is your OS (Operating System) and update level?
Have you installed all of the Acrobat 8 updates?
All Adobe updates start here and select product, install in number order, updates are not cumulative http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

  • Icons for GoLive & Acrobat disappear in Finder views

When accessing files in the Finder icon, list and column views, Adobe GoLive CS and Acrobat file icons appear momentarily and then disappear, replaced by generic icons with tiny labels that say HTML and PDF. This did not happen in previous OS X versions including Tiger. It makes it harder to find files I want to open. Interestingly, this does not occur for most other application icons including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Any ideas?

Also interesting to note is that when attaching files from Mail, these GoLive and Acrobat files retain their icons.

  • Adobe Acrobat disappeared all at once

For some mystery reasons that the entire workstations (100 computers) in my company that had Adobe Acrobat installed disappeared just overnight. This morning I came in and all the users come to me and ask where is adobe acrobat, so I looked in their computer ...there is not even one tiny footprint of Acrobat anywhere.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I assume you had Acrobat installed on all of the systems. Just for information, what types of operating systems and version of Acrobat were running?
The fact that all 100 machines are missing Acrobat is strange. Typically, removal of Acrobat still leaves the installed folder in the Program Files folder. You might also see if there is anything in the recycle bin. What you are describing sounds like a deliberate attack, but it is something that you would have to trace. If possible, you might want to check the network logs for any suspicious activity.
Good luck. You have a strange problem and I really can't think of anything else to help at this point.

  • Acrobat disappears, is no longer on machine

Numerous times, Acrobat has disappeared and I have had to download and install again (not update, install).
Two different machines, both running Win 8.1
    Nuisance.

    Hi tapiot,
What version of Acrobat have you installed?
Did you check the Control Panel > Programs to see if it's still listed.
Try the following basic troubleshooting steps:
    > Enable the hidden Admin Account on Windows 7 ( Ref :  http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/ )
    > Disable all Non-Microsoft Startup Services. (Ref : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/disable-startup-items-services-windows.html )
    > Disable all the Antivirus softwares like CA, Norton,Mc Afee etc. temporarily from the computer.
Reboot and try installing in the new enabled Admin user account and check.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Closing Causes Extended Hard Drive Activity

This issue started after a year or more of clean running and automated Adobe updates.  My installation is up to date according to Adobe.
Dell Precision 4300 laptop, 4 GB RAM, Windows XP Pro, all patches etc. up to date.
The problem I am seeing only occurs when I attempt to close Acrobat.  Using Windows Task Manager to obtain some of the details, the summary is as follows:
View a 200 KB single page PDF document.
Shut down Acrobat (simply closing the document and leaving an empty instance of Acrobat open doesn't cause any trouble).
Acrobat window remains open for a protracted length of time, hard drive is active constantly.
At this point, Task Manager shows acrobat.exe using 28 MB of memory and this number remains constant while the window is visible on screen.
    Acrobat disappears from the screen.
Hard drive activity continues, but now Task Manager shows the 28 MB of memory ramping up.  It eventually peaks and holds at 336 MB!
During this time, the I/O Read and Write associated with the Acrobat.exe process continues to climb.  In this test, the final number is 1,100 MB and 700 MB respectively. Seems a little extreme for a 200 KB PDF!
The acrobat.exe process eventually disappears from Task Manager and the hard drive activity ceases.  This takes a couple of minutes and happens every time I close Acrobat!  I have got into the habit of simply leaving an empty window open, or killing the process via Task Manager.
If I try to do a shut down of the system immediately after closing Acrobat (while the drive is still working hard), I will get a warning that acrobat.exe isn't responding, or sometimes, that font capture isn't responding.  If I wait, the process eventually completes on its own and the computer shuts down.
I have tried the 'repair installation' option in Acrobat.  No joy.  None of the other CS4 applications seem to have this problem... Photoshop just closes without any drama.
    Ideas?

I have the same problem of HDD activity after closing any pdf file, whatever the file size.
    I'm done with adobe acrobat..
This is not only the problem.. I installed the Acrobat 10 and I found that I cannot modify the toolbar by drag and drop and I cannot add the (properties) bar to the main toolbar (or even the buttons of the properties bar), So the properties bar still floating and when i resize the acrobat window or dock the window to the left or to the righ i have to move the properties bar over the screen...
In Pro9 the properties bar can be a part of the main toolbar, BUT sometimes the properties bar goes disabled and I have to close the Acrobar and reopen it to return the propeties bar enabled again. So, it seems to me adobe acrobat solved the problem in Pro10 by not allowing adding the properties bar to the the main toolbar...
Recently I solved the annoying options dialog box by renaming some plugin files!!
Why the Adobe Acrobat takes 2G of HDD space!!!..
Now I moved to Nitro PDF Professional software and it has all the Acrobat features of editing, viewing, drawing...etc and it takes less than 100M of my HDD...and this what Corel PDF Fusion do as well. The Corel PDF Fusion has the highlight text, editing text and page actions..etc but it doesn't have the drawing feature yet, maybe because it is v1.0 in 2011
tens of new PDF sofware in the market... Wake Up acrobat team...

  • Scanning with Acrobat 9

I am having some strange problems with an application after an upgrade from Acrobat Pro 5 to Acrobat Pro 9. What the application is supposed to do is to scan a document to PDF, save it to some temporary location, display it on the screen and later save it to the database. For scanning, I am using the MenuItemExecute("scan") method of the Acrobat application object (I don't think there is any other way!). The scanning is triggered by a button on the application's form, and the scanned document is displayed also on the application's form using the OpenInWindowEx method of AcroAVDoc. Acrobat's window is kept hidden.
In the past, clicking on the "Scan" button would open the settings dialog of the scanner's TWAIN driver, and the result of the scanning would get displayed properly without any trace of Acrobat running behind the scenes. With Acrobat 9, however, the Acrobat window gets displayed; the scanned image first appears inside it and a second later gets transferred to my form. That would not have been so bad (I call the Hide method of AcroApp immediately afterwards to make Acrobat disappear), but the problem is, it works terribly unreliably.
On one scanning attempt out of ten, the Acrobat would appear minimized in the task bar and only the scanning dialog will be displayed (the Acrobat's internal dialog, not the TWAIN driver's). Then after the scanning, the application would crash when trying to call GetActiveDoc() of AcroApp or GetPDDoc() of AcroAVDoc. The error message is meaningless: something like "Cannot call method '~' of object '~'". On other occasions the scanned page would appear in the Acrobat's own window and stay there without being transferred to the application's form. It's just crazy.
Is there some trick with scanning from the new Acrobat that I am not aware of? Everything seems to be very unstable with the new version. Thanks in advance!

We had a VBScript that used IAC for Acrobat 7 to scan to a file of specified name, that died under 9. I think the change was really a result of changing from MDI to SDI under Acrobat 8.
Anyway, our tweaked VBScript function that now works under 9 looks like this (yeah, we leave Acrobat visible, but perhaps you'll see something here) ...
        function AcrobatScanToFile(outputFullPath)
'Launch Acrobat to scan a document to a specific path
            const MAXIMIZE_ACROBAT = 1 ' 1-yes; 0-no
            dim success
            success = True
            dim ScanOK
            dim app
            set app = createobject("AcroExch.App")
            ScanOK = app.MenuItemExecute("Scan")
            dim AVDoc
            set AVDoc = createobject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
            set AVDoc = app.GetActiveDoc
            if AVDoc.IsValid then
                dim PDDoc
                set PDDoc = createobject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
                set PDDoc = AvDoc.GetPDDoc
                if PDDoc.Save(1,outputFullPath) <> True then
                    success = False
                end if
                PDDoc.Close
            else
                success = False
            end if
            if success then
                AVDoc.BringToFront
                AVDoc.Maximize MAXIMIZE_ACROBAT
            end if
            'AVDoc.Close 0
            'app.Exit
            AcrobatScanTofile = success
        end function

  • Email icon and function disappears 3 seconds after opening a PDF in Acrobat 8.

Using Adobe Acrobat 8 with updates applied, when opening .pdf files the email function disappears 3 seconds after the file opens.  I have had this program in my PC for years, and this functionality worked up until last week when it disappeared.
I have been informed that this program is no longer supported by telephone, and that I need to upgrade to gain access to support.
I have reinstalled the program and the problem persists.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Jason,
I would recommend you to do a selected startup and then enable the programs one by one to isolate which program might be causing this.
Please refer the KB: Restart Windows in a modified mode | Windows 7, Vista for selective startup of Windows.

  • Bookmarks disappear after file save in Acrobat Pro 9

I recently bought Acrobat Pro 9 and have run into a problem with creating, editing and saving bookmarks. (I use InDesign CS2 to create most of my PDFs.)
On only one occasion could I create bookmarks in a normal manner, i.e., selecting pages to bookmark, creating a bookmark using the keyboard <Command B> and entering text into its label. I got through the entire list of bookmarks and saved the file.
When I reopened it, all but one had disappeared. This has happened most of the time.
But there is an additional wrinkle. Except for that one “normal” occasion, what usually happens is that whenever I create a bookmark (by whichever method), my ability to enter text into the label is so short that the only way I can accomplish it is to prepare a list of label contents in a word processor and copy/paste each line into each created bookmark. And I do have to be quick about it. Acrobat will keep generating functional bookmarks as you go along, but when they're all “Untitled” and you can't get get in there to do any real edits, there isn't any point to having bookmarks. (I'm a fast typist.) Invoking TouchUp Text at first gave me a small reprieve, but since then it hasn't helped at all.
When I save the document and close it, on reopening I find again that all the bookmarks have disappeared. Conclusion: they didn't really get saved in the first place.
    Previously I used Acrobat 5.

I see that this is a very old thread. I'm using Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 on OS 10.6.6 and seeing something similar. No real solution, but I thought I'd add a data point and my workaround.
It seems as though SOME, but not ALL, of my bookmarks are "taking." Right now, whenever I add a bookmark AFTER what's probably the first bookmark created in the document, it MIGHT stick around after a save. When I add a bookmark BEFORE that bookmark (as in "it's positioned higher on the list in the sidebar"), it doesn't save. I ended up moving the "good" bookmark to the front of the list, and then adding additional bookmarks after it. These all stuck around after a save.
Because of bugs like this, I'm using Preview in every case possible. Acrobat does more, but it sucks at the basics things you'd expect to work flawlessly. Oh well!

  • Created PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, but HELP fields disappear when I save FCDT file to PDF. Please help. Thanks!

Created PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, but HELP fields disappear when I save FCDT file to PDF. Please help. Thanks!

I am not aware of a field type "Help" within a PDF form. I do not see it as a form field that can be added in the form edit mode.
Forms Central forms do not support all the features of Acrobat forms.
Are you talking about the "Tool Tips" or a hidden field that only shows when one enters a field and is hidden upon exiting the field.

  • Acrobat 8.1.2 Pdf Files disappear

    hi there,
i am running OS 10.5.2, Adobe acrobat pro 8.1.2 . when i print a file from vectorworks (12.5.3) about 40% of all files go to the printer dialogue, where it says printing, processing and so on and then disappear completely. if i am lucky the pdf file ends up at my desktop, however i don't get to select the file name and save location anymore as you used to do in tiger.
so most of the time i go through the .ps option but it is really annoying especially after all the wait for the 8.1.2 update.
has anyone had the same problem or can tell me what i am doing wrong? thanks

Remove the printer under OSX / Preferences and then Repair the
    installation from Acrobat ..

  • Signature field disappears in Acrobat X?

I used InDesign CS6 to create a form with two signature fields, among others. When I open the form in Acrobat X, the fields are all there. When I sign the first part of the form and then save it and then reopen the form, all the checked radio buttons are blank and the signature disappears. I was able to get the radio buttons to stay when I sent the PDF to the second signatory, but my signature was not there. They were able to sign on the second signature field and return the PDF to me. The second signature was there, but not the first one. The recipients are using Acrobat Pro for Windows (not sure which version but probably the latest) and I am using a Mac with Acrobat X and InDesign CS6.

Yes, you can create and edit forms with Standard. It won't allow you to add/edit document-level JavaScripts or add the digital signature usage right when Reader-enablinga document, however.

  • Acrobat 7.0 Professional file disappears after loading

Recently my co-worker ran into the following problem: every time she opened a PDF file, the file would load, display on the screen and then disappear. Acrobat would still be open and the title bar would still display the file name, but the file would no longer be visible. This happened to all the PDF files she accessed.
She's rebooted and the problem seems to have disappeared for the moment... (but, like all problems, I'm sure it's lying in wait until we have a deadline to meet...)
    Suggestions?

Heh...maybe there is easy explanation for this :)
You are saying Acrobat is still running, file is still opend (can the file be seen under the Window option?)
Acrobat remembers the position of last opened file, so it is possible that it is opened somewhere outside the visible screen.
This is common when having two monitors e.g. and you extend Acrobat to both of them, open some document on secondary monitor, then resize acrobat back to first monitor, so actually last file was opened on second monitor...

  • Titlebar in Acrobat 9 Pro disappears when window moved.

I have a client who is using Acrobat Pro 9.0 in a Windows 7 64-bit environment.  He is also using two monitors and can move documents between them.
If his PDF is open and maximized and he drags and moves it to the other monitor without placing it at the top of the screen (so that Windows automatically maximizes it), then the Title bar and Menu bar disappear.  At that point, you cannot move the document nor can you maximize it.  You have to close it down from the taskbar.  I have tried repairing and and reinstalling Acrobat and it doesn't help.  Any suggestions on what to try next to resolve the problem would be greatly appreciated!

You might try to setup the page size in the Adobe PDF printer and then print to the printer. I assume you are using PDF Maker (create PDF) and that may be the problem. You might also open the preferences in PDF Maker and turn off most of the options - none should be needed for a single page since you would likely not be using transitions, bookmarks, etc.
Just as a test, you may want to just start with printing ot the Adobe PDF printer, but you will likely get the default paper size with the PPT shrunk to fit.

  • Acrobat 9 - Toolbar Buttons Disappear - Not all in the group..

I am running Acrobat 9. I previously had the Comment & Markup Toolbar completely expanded to the toolbar section of the program. Now, 5 buttons have disappeared and I cannnot add them through the More Tools function. The most urgent is the Pencil tool (It is odd that this tool is still accessable through the drop-down menu). When I try to add that button to the toolbar specificallyin the More Tools option, it is not even listed as available to add (the pencil eraser is though...).
I have uninstalled Acrobat and reinstalled it to no avail.
Of interesting note, when I load Adobe it is visible for a second and then it disappears.
If any one has any advise or experience with this issue, I would appreciate you support.
    Thank you,
    Kevin

Do you not see the toolbar in the standalone version of Acrobat or when a PDF is open in your browser?
Have you tried resetting the toolbar and/or performing a Repair on your Acrobat installation?
