Acrobat 9 displays "fi" as upside down "?"

I have several pdf documents where "fi" appears as an upside down "?"  It prints the same way.   If I open the same files in PDFLite (a free opensource program) everything displays and prints correctly.  Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

PDF lite may be using the fonts embedded in the file, your local Acrobat preference could be to use local fonts (or vice-versa) in Preferences.
Or, the font may not be embedded in the file, fi is a ligature substitute glyph for, hold on to your hats here, fi, and the upside down ? is a glyph used in Spanish (pardon my ignorance; Espanol?, Latin Americn?)

  • Using Macbook without lid/display (and mounted upside down)

    I have a MBP with a damaged LCD that I want to connect to a kitchen HDTV and mount upside down. Since the display is useless, don't need a camera, and I want easy access to the power button, I want to remove the lid and mount the MBP upside down to the underside of a above-counter kitchen cabinet (not enclosed). Is there any problem with removing the lid and mounting/operating upside down? Makes for a sweet kitchen internet station, and will be very cool to have the MBP and cables mounted out of sight (wireless keyboard/mouse of course!).

    BSteely, thanks for the response. Unfortunately I started dissasembly before I checked back on the forum. I removed the damaged LCD and got crazy and removed the lid frame. I continuously checked the MBP operation after each step to make sure it was still working (using external display). The only thing I did not check along the way was internet access (wireless router). I ended up cutting the connection to what I believe is the antenna/receiver? Because when I mounted the MBP under the cabinet and turned it on, everything worked fine except no internet access. I am in the process of trying to reconnect the wires on what I think is the antenna (was mounted in the bottom of the lid/hinge area. Do you think this is my problem? Other than that everything working OK so far.

  • N900 hangs up when Display is turned upside down, ...

    How can I deactivate this feature. I have lost several calls because i had my N900 in the pocket, either sitting in the car with the N900 horizontal and the display upside down, or while getting it out of the pocket turning it by mistake with display down and hanging up instead of getting the call. This is no good feature for me.
    When it lies somewhere upside down, it even does not ring, therefore Vibration is no sloution.
    Maybe a Linux expert knows a X-terminal command?

    I would have to disagree with you. I like the shake and shuffle feature. I would assume people also use ipods for travelling/commuting. Bus rides, trains, flights and so on.
    But, to each their own opinions I guess.
    Peace!

  • After installing the Quicktime 7.6 Plug-in all my MobileMe Gallery movies display upside down

    This issue is only in FF 4.0.
    I have a 2010 Intel iMac with Mac OS 10.6.7.
    I create an iMovie, upload to MobileMe Gallery, a window opens asking if I'd like to 'View' the new movie, I click 'View'.
    After opening my MME Gallery in FF4.0 my movie is displayed and plays upside down and backwards. All my other movies (48 of them) are also the same.
    After discussions with Apple MME Support I find that my movies are displayed properly in my 'logged in' area only, when I try to play any Gallery movie it becomes upside down/backwards.
    I finally gave up troubleshooting and re-installed FF 3.6.16 and everything is as it should be.

  • Imported signature stamp upside down

    I have a JPG of my signature. I've tried several times to import it as a "Custom Stamp" into Acrobat X.
    Comes in upside down, no matter what configuration I import it in.
    What's going on?
    Acrobat X on Win XP Pro. (Same problem with Acrobat 9.)

    I get the same result.  It is a bit random.  The signature is somethings upside-down, and sometimes perpendicular to the horizonal plane.  It does NOT help to rotate the document 180 degress, the signature image rotates with the page.  It seems to be a Mt. Lion issue, since i used this feature all the time in Lion with problems.

  • Why does iPad render online photo upside down?

    Please see this site: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=65508&CScn=Oakwood&CScntry =4&CSst=36&CScnty=2005&
    Re: The second photo on the right.
    When it is viewed on the computer (Mac Pro, Mac Mini, via Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera) it is fine.
    When it is viewed on the iPad (original, no camera), it is upside down.
    It stays at the wrong orientation regardless how the iPad is rotated.
    This does not happen with all photos on this site.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mwg

    Cameras can embed orientation data into images so that display/editing software can automatically show them the right way up. The second (and third) images would both appear to have been rotated without amending the orientation data so that the iPad sees them as being "upside-down" and corrects. I downloaded the full size original of the second image and Picasa also displays the image upside-down. Under properties it gives Orientation: Rotated 100 Degrees.
    Now we know why, there is the separate issue of whether or not the iPad should obey or ignore orientaion data for images rendered as part of a web page. It certainly leads to an inconsitency with other views of the same page.

    In Acrobat pro 9, I can't find staple and fold options for booklets and no matter what options I choose in the print dialogue my booklet ends up with pages upside down and out of order? I am working on a Macbook pro running OS X 10.9.4.  Our printers are fully capable for booklets with staples and folds. Would love some help. Thank you!

    Thanks for your reply....FYI...I was trying to download from www.adobe.com on
    the specific page that has downloads of your products.    As far as the
    alternate source is concerned I am not totally sure what the capabilities it has as
    I am recovering from a hospital stay and had to send my wife to retailer to
    pick this up because I am accessing email from home until I return to work and
    need something to work now.  I don't yet have the SW.  (I would have had her
    buy the actual Adobe Pro 9.0 -- but it is a wapping $499 and change).

  • PDF Document Opens Upside Down in Acrobat 8.2.6

    I have a PDF document that always opens upside down. After I have opened it I will correct the orientation and then re-save it but when I open it again, it is upside down. I would appreciate suggestions. I am using Acrobat Standard 8.2.6.
    Thanks for your help

    You are only rotating the view, not the page. You need to rotate the page (control-shift-R).

  • Vertical text in charts appears upside-down in Acrobat pdf

    When I copy a chart with vertical text from Tableau into Word and then Save as Adobe PDF, the vertical text appears upside-down.
    When I copy a chart with vertical text from Tableau into Word and then Save as PDF using Word's built in PDF creator, the vertical text appears correctly.
    This bug occurs in both Adobe Acrobat 11 and Acrobat Pro DC. Can Adobe fix this bug?

    Never mind. I solved the problem myself. It turns out I needed to embed the font I used in the text boxes. Once I did that, everything shows up fine.

  • PP CS6 Media Browser displays thumbnails upside down

    Hi,
    I'm using a 2010 MacBook Pro 17" 3.06 GHz, 4GB RAM,
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GT, OS 10.6.8 and PP CS6.02.
    When I'm viewing stills in media browser, it's displaying many of the thumnails upside down and side ways.
    Not sure what else to say about it or do.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

    PP won't reorient stills that were taken with the camera turned on it's side for portrait shots, so I wonder if that's what you're seeing here.  The shooter had the camera turned or even upside down at the time.

  • [Air 3.2] Windows 7 - Video Display upside down!

    Hi, after upgrading many Windows client machines from 3.1 to 3.2 (being prompted to do so automatically by Air updater) my air applications are displaying the Video content upside down. the Mac machines are so far ok after the 3.2 air update.
    My air application has not changed.  I even dowloaded the 3.2 sdk and recompiled the app on windows, but the Video is still flipped along the Y axis (flipped upside down).
    Here is how I am using the Video:
    video=new Video(uic.width,uic.height);
    uic.addChild(video);
    video.attachNetStream(screenNS);
    screenNS.play(name);
    Any clues, is this a known bug?

    My testing team reported a bug which said there was a problem with seeking the video. I am using mx:VideoDisplay component and the problems surfaced after upgrading to 3.2 runtime. Why I am saying this is I have 3.1 sdk with my FB and this problem is not there when I debug the app, but when I export a build and install it, the problem begins with 3.2 runtime runtime. I was not aware of this difference as the update happens automatically. Is there any solution to go around this one? Also, I am now downloading the 3.2 sdk so that I can try debugging with 3.2 environ.
    Video display is straight forward, but the problem occurs only when I try to seek it or maximize the display, ie, when we have to deal with playheadtime.

  • Flipping (upside-down) the image on the iMac display

    My imac G5 20" (no iSight) sits way too high on my desk.
    I want to turn it upside down so the screen is lower.
    Is there a way to inverse the screen display? 3rd party software, etc...?
    Thanks

    The foot is removable on the iMac G5 computers prior to the iSight version.
    They did this so that you could install a wall-mount adapter.
    But, if you do this, consider that you do need air-space under the iMac G5 for ventilation.
    Probably your best bet would be to buy a wall-mount adapter from Apple, and then a Wall-Mount bracket from most electronics and home stores. Then you can set the height anywhere you want it.

  • IPod display is upside down and mirror image - fixable?

    The display on my mom's iPod display is upside down and mirror image. I can read the menus if I hold the iPod horizontal, and look into a mirror about six inches in front of my nose, but it's inconvenient.
    I have tried the 5 R's (except for upgrading the Mac OS 10.3.9 - she has an 800 MHz G3 iBook and won't support Leopard). Apparently the songs all reloaded and play OK, but the display is hard to read without (and with!) the mirror.
    I found a similar help request from last June, but no solution.

    I have the same problem, have you found a solution.

  • Applet displaying text upside down

    I'm writing a minesweeper game (though this is mostly irrelevant), and am at the stage where I am displaying strings in an applet. For some reason, the applet insists on displaying everything UPSIDE DOWN. I have no clue why it would do this, so I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions.
    Here is the applet code (will supply more upon request):
    import java.applet.Applet;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class MineFieldApplet extends Applet
        private static final int FIELD_SIZE = 10;
        private static final int NUM_MINES = 5;
        private final double XMAX = FIELD_SIZE - 1;
        private final double XMIN = 0;
        private final double YMAX = 0;
        private final double YMIN = -(FIELD_SIZE - 1);
        private MineField field;
        private Rectangle box;
        private static final int BOX_X = 0;
        private static final int BOX_Y = 0;
        private static final int BOX_WIDTH = 2;
        private static final int BOX_HEIGHT = 2;
        public MineFieldApplet()
            field = new MineField(FIELD_SIZE, NUM_MINES);
            class FieldListener implements MouseListener
             public void mousePressed(MouseEvent event)
                 sweep(FIELD_SIZE - 1 - (int)event.getY(), FIELD_SIZE - 1 - (int)event.getX());
                 repaint();
             public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent event) {}
             public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent event) {}
             public void mouseEntered(MouseEvent event) {}
             public void mouseExited(MouseEvent event) {}
            MouseListener listener = new FieldListener();
            addMouseListener(listener);
        public void sweep(int row, int column)
            field.sweep(row, column);
        public void paint(Graphics g)
            Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D)g;
            double xscale = (getWidth() - 1.0) / (XMAX -XMIN);
            double yscale = (getHeight() - 1.0) / (YMIN -YMAX);
            g2.scale(xscale, yscale);
            g2.translate(-XMIN, -YMAX);
            g2.setStroke(new BasicStroke(0));
            g2.clearRect(0, 0, (int)XMAX, (int)YMAX);
            g2.setFont(new Font("Monospaced", Font.PLAIN, 1));
            g2.drawString(field.getString(0, 0), 1, 0);
    }

    If the y scale param is -ive every thing goes upside
    down
    if your x scale parm is -ive you get a mirror immage
    so thats
    it.I think I know why your y scale is -ive double
    yscale =
    (getHeight() - 1.0) / (YMIN -YMAX);
    The numerator is obviously -ive since min - max <0Then why didn't it help when I suggested negating xScale and yScale?

  • Screen image display is upside down

    I have a user with a Portege S100 who says that the image appears upside down - is this a facility or a problem? If a facility how does she return it to normal?
    Thanks

    As in the previous posting suggested the graphic card supports a NV rotate option.
    I assume the user has changed the screen to inverted landscape (180 degree rotation)
    As far as I know there is a key combination to change this option:
    Ctrl + Shift + R
