Acrobat 9 hangs with multiple documents open

HP pro 6200 4 G RAM, Win7Pro, Acrobat 9(fully updated), single computer affected, multiple users, documents are from C drive, network, and USB
I've run a repair install, removed the popups/lines and other markup notifications, held shift down when starting to not load add-ins, logged in as another user, updated video card drivers, sprinkled fairy dust, changed desktop resolution(set at 800x600 per user preference), opened same documents on another computer with no problems, and yet I still cannot find out what is causing Acrobat 9 to hang after multiple pages are opened.  Sometimes it will hang completely and I have to go into task manager and kill it, other times the page has a hard time painting as I scroll.  The memory usage doesn't go over 100k in task manager.  If we  close out of the documents with task manager and open them back up it is fine for a while, then it starts back up again.  This seems like a common issue but all the common fixes I found aren't working.  I was not able to find a "preferences" folder under his user folder to delete those settings.
Anyone have any other ideas?

  • How Do I Launch Safari with Multiple Tabs Open to Specific Pages?

I'd like a Windows shortcut that opens Safari with multiple tabs open to specific pages. With other browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome, etc.), this is easily done by composing a command line that lists all desired URLs. However, Safari doesn't seem to use the same command line syntax as other browsers. Furthermore, I can't find Safari's command line syntax documented anywhere. From the comments I've seen while researching this question, I suspect this is a neglected area of Safari development, and that Safari simply can't be configured to open multiple pages. However, I'd like to make sure. Can it?
    -TC

It strikes me that it should be possible to do that (or something similar) by building a safari extension, TC. Both Sessions and SafariRestore are able to launch multiple tabs from a previous session, so it seems like you should be able to create an extension that launches multiple tabs open to specific sites when Safari is launched.

  • With multiple tabs open, crashing with no warning to close tabs and no crash report. Just bye-bye.

I have the option to warn me before closing multiple tabs selected. I left my desk for an hour with multiple windows open. When I returned, all but 1 window disappeared. I was typing on Facebook with multiple tabs open and instantly all tabs and windows disappeared without warning. No crash report either. I search for the keyboard shortcut to close a window (Alt+Spacebar+C). I tested with multiple tabs open, no warning - just instantly closed. I do not think I hit these keys by accident and I would like an option for a warning with one tab open or multiple tabs.

Ok I solved the problem if anyone is looking at this.
Add on "Hide Caption Title bar Plus" was the offender
Option - define option for close button. Was on recommended not default.
    Choose default, problem eliminated!

  • Is there a way to get firefox to warn me when exiting with multiple windows open?

When I click File > Exit in the menu, I want firefox to warn me if I have multiple windows open.
I don't want it to warn me about multiple tabs though.
Is there a way to get it to do that?
I would prefer to just hit the red X in the top right corner, which would avoid this problem, However, if it is the only firefox window I have open, then the red X will often not properly shut down firefox exe, so next time I try to launch firefox it won't work and I have to end task on firefox exe! I was told to use File Exit to improve the chances that firefox will properly close, but doing so introduces this new issue.
    thanks

    That doesn't work.
Once I set it to true, if I have one window open with multiple tabs, and try to exit, it comes up with a warning box, which I don't want.
Then if I check it to say 'don't show this again', the next time I run firefox the showQuitwarning setting has been set back to false. So then when I have multiple windows open and I file exit, all firefox shuts down with no warning.
The reason I want this is because I can *see* the tabs of the window I am in when I am clicking on file|exit, so visually, I'm not going to close anything that I didn't mean to close because it's right there visible to me at the top of the screen (the tabs are seen at the top of the screen) in the same area as where I am looking at and clicking File Exit.
But other firefox windows are not visible up there so it is easy to forget that they are open, since a lot of times I don't have any other windows open (if I *always* had other windows open then I would not forget them and be in more of a practice of checking the taskbar for them)
And this is all because I can't hit the red X in the top right corner without increasing the odds of hung firefox processes that don't truly exit (thus making me unable to start another session later without Ending Task which isn't good).
The hanging is daily but random and not reproducible, so it's very difficult to troubleshoot or fix.

  • CS3 hangs on multiple document data merge

I am using data merge to create documents for high school graduation issues for two different high schools for the newspaper I work for.
For each school, I have created a single document data merge to print proofs of the individual students. For the first and largest school,
I've done a successful test run of a multiple document data merge of all the students. I then used the Excel .txt file from high school #1 to create the .txt file for high school #2. We have successfully done the individual data merges for proofs for each of the students in high school #2.
However, when I try to run the multiple document data merge for high school #2, InDesign gives me the spinning wheel of death. Forever.
I cand run or preview a single item, but it hangs up if I try to run them all or a range (even just 1-2).
I am stumped as to why in what are basically the same documents one works and the other does not. Can anyone help?

Brainstorming with a co-worker solved the problem. A graphic I was using was too large for InDesign to handle on the multiple document data merge. So I reducd the file size, and that did the trick.

  • With multiple tabs open, and selecting a new (blank) tab, RoboForm open new web page in far left tab, not the new (blank) one. How to correct this?

Problem: Firefox Browser Tabs when using RoboForm
When using Tabs in the Firefox browser (with multiple Tabs already open), I (1) click to open a new (blank) tab and then, (2) click on RoboForm to go to a new website. Instead of the new website opening in the newly opened (blank) tab it opens in the first (far left) tab. This only began happening when I installed Firefox 5.0 and RoboForm Desktop v7.3.2 at the same time.
My system: HP Pavilion Media center, Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, 8GB RAM, Firefox v5.0, Roboform Desktop v7.3.2

Thanks a lot. The culprit turned out to be Webmail Notifier. Unfortunately, there seems to be some problems on their end that the developer has not yet responded to, but something about the extension is screwing up tab functionality.
    Thanks!

  • Multiple documents opening

How can I stop multiple documents from opening in word and excel? Every time I open a document, it also opens two or three previous documents that I don't want to open.

    Quit Excel.
Try deleting the microsoft excel document in Saved Application State folder located in your Home Library.
In the Finder menu, select Go, then Go To Folder and paste:
    ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.microsoft.Excel.savedState
Once deleted, open Excel. Close all windows that open, then quit Excel. Open again and see if it solves the problem.

  • Working with multiple applications open

I was wondering if having multiple applications open has a negative effect on the speed of my RAM. Someone told me that it's actually a good thing to have more than one open at a time in OS X. Could that be true?
I'm interested because I only have 256 MB and I use Photoshop CS (a real memory hog) a lot for manipulating big images. I'm also online pretty much all the time.
    Thank you.
    Allan

Yeah, I think I see those beach balls in my sleep! Thanks Littleshoulders for the link. It's really helpful. I think I'll buy that ebook when I can. The other link on my previous post that led somewhere on this site helped a lot, too. The more I learn, the better.
So I guess that's a fallacy that it's good to have many apps open at a time, especially Photoshop and the huge images I work with. You know, I'm sure I read that in a book about using OS X. I don't see how there would be a benefit to have multiple apps open.
I think RAM will be my next purchase, followed, of course, by a newer, more powerful Mac.

  • Send To with multiple documents

Is there any way to apply the 'Send To' URL to multiple documents in a library at the same time?
I need to do this for several hundred documents. A straight up copy (i.e. using Explorer View to copy/paste) is not acceptable for various business reasons. We need to preserve the ability to edit the source documents without the copies being updated at
    the same time.

    Hi pdi12,
SharePoint doesn't support "Send To" multiple items at same time OOTB, library ribbon button "Send To" only work for one item by design, it would need to be implemented with development approach to iterate all library items and "send
to" them at the same time, or it needs to manually apply "Send To" for each library document item.

  • With multiple tabs open, I use to click File, close tab---now close tab is missing and I exit out of Firefox completely. How do I get that choice back "close tab" in the "File" drop down? Thanks. George C.

The drop down "FILE" in the tool bar use to have a choice to "CLOSE TAB". This is now missing so when I have multiple tabs open and I want to close the most recent, I cannot. I then get warned that I will be closing multiple numbers of tabs, but there is no other choice.
How do I get the "CLOSE TAB" back in the drop down "FILE" in the tool bar

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Acrobat 8.1 - Multiple files open automatically when i start Acrobat

When I click on my Acrobat icon 50 files automatically open up.  This did not happen on Friday and now on Monday it does.  What can I do to fix this problem?

The same thing is happening to me. I joined the forum just to post this.
It started on Acrobat Pro 8. I uninstalled 8 and installed 9 Pro. That seemed to fix the problem for a few days, but it's back now. Whenever I open one pdf via double click on the pdf or file --> open from the acrobat pro menu, it tries to launch every pdf on my computer until it hits 50 and quits. I see this problem is unresolved. Unfortunately, I don't have the answer. Hopefully someone out there does...

  • Firefox 3.6.13 hangs freezes repeatedly with multiple tabs open

I am running FF v3.6.13 on a Vista laptop. I typically have over 60 tabs open during a session (pretty much the same ones each time). In the last two weeks, FF has started freezing repeatedly while these tabs are open, whether I am using it or it is sitting idle. I either get a dialog box stating that Firefox is not responding and asking if I want to end it or wait for it to respond, or it simply hangs and I have to kill it via Task Manager.
However, if I run FF with only a few tabs open, it remains running and stable. So, I don't believe it is an extension problem.
    Any ideas what is happening?

    @ Falling Rock
You seem to have found a plausible answer to the problem. <br>
But at least as I view your post it is breaking the post container, I will repeat your answer and add line breaks in an attempt to make it easier for those like myself to view what you have written; without requiring excessive scrolling.
    Repeat of above post
    ''Hey, M.,
I have had this problem with v3.6.13 and earlier versions, too,<br> but I never was anywhere near 60 tabs! WOwwww! <br>
IMHO, the "issue"is probably caused by your having stretched your virtual memory too far. <br>
My system is XP Pro x86 SP3 with only 2 GB RAM; <br>you must have 4GB or upwards on a 64-bit system, to grow to 60 tabs. <br>Mine gets flaky around 12-15, esp. with a Word doc window or two running as well. <br>Mine used to go troublesome around 8 or so, but I increased my Virtual Memory setting in Windows. <br>You might try increasing the virtual memory setting significantly, if Windows will let you. <br> See if that will help your problem. Good luck!

  • With a document open password - is there a way to ask only once per session?

Here's my scenario:  User is reading a "password to open" document that contains links to other web pages, etc.  The user clicks on a link, goes to the new page, then uses the back button/back key to return to the password protected document, where they must type in the password to open again, and must do this every time they click a link then later attempt to return to the document.
Is there a way around the repeated retyping / reentering / rekeying the password?  (My guess is no, but I'll ask anyway).  The user did type in their password, most of the time just a minute or two earlier, before they clicked on the link in the password protected document.
P.S. I have a couple other questions, indirectly related (byproducts) to this general topic.  I'll post those in their appropriate forum, then edit this post with links to those posts.  FYI, the other posts are/will be:
Is there a better way than manually adjusting each and every link in a document to use javascript and repeating that process each time the document is updated, to make links open in new windows, (when viewing a pdf from within a browser window).  [Edit:  here's that link:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5055202#5055202 ]
Is there a way from an html page or from something within a PDF document (at the discretion of the document's author) to open a pdf in the acrobat reader window instead of in the browser, without asking each user to change their reader settings?  [Edit:  I ended up asking this question in the same post listed above]

Once the instance of Acrobat or Reader containing a password-protected PDF file has been closed, you can't avoid having to re-enter the password. If the links don't target a new tab or window, then the browser will unload the plugin - and aside from changing all the link targets, you can't prevent that.

  • Acrobat Hangs With Vista

Right now running Vista Business Premium (fully updated) and acrobat standard (8.1.1). We have some forms which we fill out then save as pdf's to print when needed. 99% of the time, when selecting addresses [from a drop down in the from] or a date acrobat just "hangs" and we have to do a manual shutdown (press and hold the power button) as the entire computer just hangs up and refuses to respond (even after letting it sit for a while)
I have no idea how to diagnose this problem, so any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a problem with Acrobat Pro in Vista hanging for 30-90 seconds then working OK for a while, then hanging repeatedly for 30-90 seconds. I have noticed that the error log in the roaming\adobe\acrobat\8.0 logging an error as follows when this happens:
080216 13:34:25 [Warning] Can't open and lock time zone table: Table 'mysql.time_zone_leap_second' doesn't exist trying to live without them
    080216 13:34:25 [ERROR] mysql_embedded: Can't find file: 'files.MYI' (errno: 2)
    080216 13:34:25 [ERROR] mysql_embedded: Can't find file: 'files.MYI' (errno: 2) . . .
Any ideas how to get this to stop?
