Acrobat 9: Issue with Graphics Looking Distorted

Hi all. I'm sure that the answer to this is very simple and I am doing something ridiculous ...
I use Microsoft Publisher (2007 version) to create documents, and then convert them to PDF using Acrobat 9. Recently, I have noticed that many of the graphics elements that I use are looking distorted when viewed onscreen. They print out looking as smooth as they did in the original Publisher file, but are a lot less so onscreen. Seeing as many people read PDFs onscreen now, this is a bit of a worry.
I have tried saving graphics as JPEGs, GIFs, PNGs and TIFFs (in PhotoShop CS5) and get the same issue each time. Also, the quality between one save and another can be extremely variable. In the example I have attached (the top section is a screen grab from the Publisher file, the bottom when convereted), once or twice when saving the rotated image looked utterly dreadful (as in completely usable). However, when I would save it again a few minutes later, without having adjusted anyting, it looked a lot better.
In the example below, you can see our company logo and also the lines around the photograph don't look great. (The rest is just text, which always looks great.)
Any settings I am missing ... other PDFs I have seen always look great.
I have set the the PDF conversation to High Quality, so am not sure where I am going wrong.

  • Issue with graphics tearing on thumb scroll in Flex 3

We are seeing some off issues with graphics (one using the charting package and the other using degrafa) tearing on thumb scrolling in a large Flex 3 app.  It's very hard to reproduce on OSX with the latest versions of Safari and Firefox, but it shows almost immediately when you run the app on Windows or Linux (regardless of the browser).  I took one of the pieces out of the app and put it into a very simple testbed app and can't get the problem to show on Windows (i was hoping to isolate the issue in a smaller test case, but no such luck).
So, ii've got a few idea's on how to work around the issue, but i was wondering if anyone else has seen this type of problem before?
    Problem:
         - graphics tear on thumb scroll
         - doesn't happen if you click in the track or use the arrows
         - one view is using the charting package, the other view is using degrafa
Thanks for any comments or suggestions...
    Richard

SOLUTION:  changed wmode from "opaque" to "window" in the jsp serving as the wrapper for the app's main swf...
    Here's the reference we used to determine the proper setting for wmode;

  • Are there known issues with graphics cards?

I have an Intel Core i7 2.66 GHz with 8GB of RAM and a graphics card with
    Intel HD Graphics
      Type:    GPU
      Bus:    Built-In
      VRAM (Total):    288 MB
      Vendor:    Intel (0x8086)
      Device ID:    0x0046
      Revision ID:    0x0018
      gMux Version:    1.9.21
My screen occassionaly gets completely scrambled, where I move the trackpad and windows and other things will ghosted items will materialize in the background, though I am unable to click on anything or do anything, so I have to cut the power. This happens when I only have 1 or maybe 2 programs open.
Are there any known issues with the graphics cards on these Macbook Pros? Anyone know what might be causing it?
    Thanks.

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • MSWORD templates with graphics look pixelated

When converting Word templates to PDFs with both text and graphics, the text renders fine in the PDF, but the graphics look very pixelated and fuzzy and ragged.  Have tried both .doc and .docx files, and with graphics as JPG and EPS files.  Same results.
    Any ideas here?

They do print pixelated.  All content looks crisp in the word template, but any graphics still show as pixelated and ragged when PDF-ed. Smoothing is turned on.
Thanks for the tip - any other suggestions?

  • Z68A-GD55(G3) BIOS Issue With Graphics Card

I have been having a strange issue with the BIOS. When I use my graphics card it appears all glitched. (see below picture) When the graphics card is removed it appears fine using onboard graphics.
    Processor: Intel Core i7 2600k
    RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
Graphics Card: MSI HD 6950 2GB Twin Frozr III

What screen connection are you using ? Can you try a normal d-Sub connection to start with ?
Also suggest you do a CMOS clear after the connection.
What did you use before this card and did you clean all old drivers before installing the new card ?>>Driver Sweeper<<

  • Issue with Graphics card...suggestions?

So I currently have a 17" iMac 1.83 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006) that we were using as a secondary desktop for our daughter to use.  Last summer, after loading Lion onto our current iMac, I tried loading Lion onto older iMac after upgrading the RAM to make it compatible.  The RAM install went fine and was tested and all was good.  After the Lion install, the screen went squiggly indicating some kind of graphics issue.
I had my friend inspect the issue (who is a Mac Genius) and he confirmed after various tests the graphics card went bad.  He further informed me that the card can only be replaced by replacing the motherboard since the graphics card is integrated into the board.  Sounds like a costly fix, according to him, for a secondary computer.
My issue is, is it common for graphics cards to go bad like that?  Did the Lion install have something to do with graphics failure?  It all just seemed weird to me since the machine never gave us any issues in the past?  Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed!!
Finally, what would be a fair price if I tried selling it for parts on CL or eBay?
    Thanks in advance!!
    Matt

Sure is it is in the upper hundreds of dollars.  My friend just had one replace under warranty and it would have cost $800 out of pocket.
My issue is, is it common for graphics cards to go bad like that?
No, it is not common, although Apple did have a GPU supplier that provided some faulty ones in a few instances: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2377
Did the Lion install have something to do with graphics failure?
No.  Installing an operating system should not cause a graphics card to fail.  Just a coincidence.
Finally, what would be a fair price if I tried selling it for parts on CL or eBay?
Whatever you can get for it really.  I'm not sure how one can accurately assess a value correctly on a Mac with such a crucial hardware component gone bad.

  • Strange issue with graphic memory in Satellite Pro 4600

When I try to open two windows at the same time, the operating system seems to fail. Only option is to restart.
For example: find a page on Google, select the page, and use a link at the current page. Display shows two screens, but no action is possible.
    Operating system is Win98SE?
    Can anyone help me?

It may not be the graphic memory because when something is wrong with graphic component you will usually see artifacts such as dots and lines.
You may try to remove one of the main memory first, (not graphic memory it's not possible) and if that doesn't fix it then,
try to install the win98 again and if that still doesn not fix the problem
it could be your motherboard or the graphic card as you mentioned, which means, in either case since the graphic card is stuck on the motherboard, you will need to replace the motherboard.

  • Issues with graphics ... force 'safe mode' graphics in normal mode?

    Hi,
I have a late 2007 MBP with the ATI graphics chipset. Everything was working fine other than a few distorted screens at the very start... now I can only get in to safemode.
I can not get into the login window on normal and sometimes it flicks to a screwed up display with beachball (display b/w beachball is coloured) everything appears to work fine in safemode other than the obvious fact none of the other extensions are enabled (sound, wifi etc)
Is it possible to force the OS to load normally but without the accelerated graphics? When I turn on the computer it usually shows distored at the apple screen and then clears up to a grey screen and usually goes blue before failing at screwed screen + visible beachball.
    I've reset the pram,
fixed permissions and everything else using applejack
    removed refit
    fsck -fy
I would try to do an archive and install but unfortunately the drive has died on this laptop. I did try to boot from a mac server using netboot / netinstall however I get the same issues as normal mode.
I just find it really frustrating that I can type here with net access in safeboot and use almost all I use this for anyway...
I also bought a external dvd drive with my mac mini server however the laptop does not seem to detect that.
    Anyone with any thoughts? thanks

Is it possible to force the OS to load normally but without the accelerated graphics?
Not with this model. Some newer MBPs had both integrated graphics and a discreet graphics chipset, but not those having the NVIDEA 8600M GT chipset, which I suspect yours does.
There are defective NVIDEA 8600 chipsets in the Late 2007/Early 2008 MBPs and, if that it the source of your problems, there is no home remedy--the logic board must be replaced.
Fortunately, Apple has a program that covers this at no charge to you:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
I suggest you print out that page and take it with you; it seems some Apple Store employees and AASPs are not aware of the program. The techs have a special tester that quickly determines if the NVIDEA chipset has failed and the computer qualifies for the free logic board replacement. If that test fails to detect a bad graphics chipset, then something else is afoot.
The point is that, with your model, you need to eliminate the NVIDEA curse first before trying further diagnosis.
I would try to do an archive and install but unfortunately the drive has died on this laptop.
Try a cleaning disk. It's amazing how meay people here report being told by a tech teht the optical drive was dead but resurrected it with a simple cleaning

  • Issues with graphics with W530

Everytime I try to play a videogame or even other media related programs, they will start up no issue. But the visual is all distorted, discolored and pixelated in this flickering madness. Is this a driver issue? I've downloaded the most up to date drive from nvidia but nothing as changed.

    Hi again, tabitante12
I did some research and found a similar issue experienced by other users, as seen here and here. These issues were seen on other models with Windows 7, but they may provide some insight to your issue. For users in these links, the issue dealt with the power settings. If their computers were not set to Maximum performance in the power settings, then this issue would occur, so I would check this and see if that is part of the issue. Also, I would recommend downgrading your current driver version to the latest supported by Lenovo, which can be found here, just for security and compatibility. Finally, if you enter the BIOS, what is your Graphics device setting set to? This can be found under Config ► Display.
    Best,
    Adam

  • List of issues with new look bt vision

    Hi,
There are a lot of things that are no longer present in the new look bt vision.
As such they out weigh the "benefits"
Will these issues be addressed at all - and is BT aware of them?
    Issues:
    1. crashing - it crashes randomly once a week - the old one never crashed once in years.
    2. Information - less information now about all programs - no director, only half the actors - normally one sentance now - before it had lots.
    3. Slow - sometimes it doesnt react to the controller - then all of a sudden it will "wake up" and do all the button presses i have been trying - in a split second.
    4. Interface - why must it move the chanels down when i just want to look at the info on  a program - not intutative. Yes i have "given it a go" for a few weeks now. so i am looking at the 5 main channels - i just want to get info on one program but it moves the whole thing down.
    5. Interface - on demand. Why cant we fast scroll down any more in the movies section. Why do i have to press Down 92 times just to get to the bottom of all the Vision Films. If this was USA i could sue for R.S.I - oh and new batteries for my controller. Bring back the fast down - it works in the TV guide - but not in Movies.
    6. Recording films that have a 5 minute news in the middle - now means i have to record 2 films
    7. TV guide - just having to press that extra button to get back to the TV is very annoying. I dont like it at all - the designer must think people would liek to spend more time in the menu than watching the TV!!
there are other points but im at work at the moment and cant remember them.
Main gripe is its soo time consuming to use the on demand due to not being able to scroll quickly that i dont see any benefit with BT Vision in its present state.
I used to be a big fan and recommended this to friends - i now say the opposite.
The menu should be functional - you try scrolling through all the on demand films (in list or the other mode) - how many button presses do you need?
very unhappy - please fix this
    regards
    Jim

That's a function of using the Freeview+ EPG which BT have no control over. There was no shortage of users asking for this on the old system for various reasons. This won't change unless Freeview changes it, so get used to it.

Not really sure what your problem is here, it's the same amount of button presses either way and it probably makes the interface faster to have a single current channel line than fiddling around with display on multiple lines.

Yeah, that's pants and needs fixed. BT are aware.

  • Issues with graphics from PowerPoint

So I have a PowerPoint 2010 presentation with lots of graphics that are transparent.  When I try to select "save as image" in powerpoint and then insert that image (as either gif or png file) into captivate, I get terrible resolution and weird jagged outlines around the graphics.  This only happens with these transparent PNGs.  The image renders perfectly in the captivate program window.  But when I preview in a browser the images look terrible.  I've spent way too much time already on redesigning graphics, playing with various png formats (8, 24, 32).  At this point I'm doing screen shots of the slides with transparent graphics, saving the whole slide as an image and pasting it into Captivate.....not a very efficient solution.
Does anyone have any tips or advice for me?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Sure do.  Change your slide quality to High Quality 24 bit on any slide containing these transparent graphics.  Then republish and take a look.

  • Issue with graphical variable usage

    Dear All,
I have a scenario where in based on the availability of 3 different fields(in target) I have to pass a certain values to another target field. I am using graphical variable(LGORT_STATUS, KUNNR_STATUS and LIFNR_STATUS) for each of the field and setting them as 'true' or 'false'. I am trying to use this status to decide on the value to be passed to another field. But unfortunately I am unable to do so. Kindly help me with it.
Please find attached screenshot of the variable values.
    Regards,
    Vishal

    Hi Harish/Osman,
First the actual field(For Ex: LGORT) is mapped based on certain condition and pass the value. Similar condition is used to passed 'true' or 'false' to the variable. Later in the mapping I want to use this status(for LGORT,KUNNR and LIFNR) is used to determine value for SOBKZ.

  • Issues with graphic card on Macbook Pro 2011

I just having problem with starting my Macboook. First, at start screen (gray background with the apple logo) appears pink/red horizontal lines over all the screen. Then, when i'm using my computer, screen goes black for no reason and i need to force restart to turn on the Mac.
I can see that many people is having the same problem. ¿Someone knows what's going on? I can't believe this is happening to a "HIGH QUALITY" expensive computer. This seems happening to 2011 Macbook Pros...
    Joaquín.

I had a similar problem on my iMac some years ago, and it was due to a graphic card failure, so I think it is the same problem for you. As it is a hardware problem, the only option is to take it to an Apple Store or reseller to get it fixed: you will get it fixed for free if your Mac is in warranty or if there is a replacement program.
