Acrobat 9 printing protection

Okay, I have been stumped on this question.
I need to make some pages in a PDF non-printable for lesson plans and the activities printable within one PDF. Any ideas how to make this happen? Ive looked through everything that I know so I am wondering if JavaScript would work for this or anything else.
If I could get some help with this that would be great.
Thanks.

You might try to see if you can do this in a pdf portfolio using separate pdf permissions for the two files within the pdf portfolio. Please realize that anything anyone can usually read can be printed. There are many utilities available that do not abide by Adobe password security methods. Only DRM is foolproof at this time.

  • How do I add the Acrobat Distiller Printer to my list of printers.

I have Adobe Acrobat 5.0 full version. I would like to know how to convert MS Works files to PDF files.
I keep getting the following message when I try to open a file as a PDF file.
When I open the MIcrsoft Works program and try to print ot the Acrobat Distiller it's not listed as you can see in the image below.
How can I had the Acrobat Distiller to my list of printers.
Please email with an answer Thanks.

Well those listed files you had were of no help. I did some more searching in an system I had and found the downloaded file Acro5.0.5.exe.
I searched for instances of the word Adobe and deleted them including folders. Also cleaned the registry as well then reinstalled the software from the afore mentioned file. Then re-registered the program. Now everthing is working fine, The Acrobat Distiller Printer is now shown in Printers and Faxes Control Panel.
I did some file conversions to PDF and the distiller is now listed as a printer source in the Print Menu of the file I am converting.
    Thank for your help.

  • Acrobat PDF Printer STILL freezes when pasting filename into Save dialog

Ref: Acrobat Printer Freezes on Save when CTL+V is used
No change in Acrobat X.  Printing system still freezes up entirely when pasting a filename into the Save dialog, when printing to Adobe PDF printer.  Most often from Firefix (all versions through 28.0) but from other programs as well (also happens from MS Outlook 2010 32 bit).
Any chance of an update from Adobe?
Acrobat Pro X on Win 7 64 bit.  Multiple systems exhibit same behavior.
Same issue occurs in Acrobat XI Standard.
Workaround is possible by manually typing in filename, or renaming, but clearly this should not be happening.  If you forget, it requires a lot of steps (or a reboot) to try again.

If you copy text directly from FireFox (or Word, or pretty much any program, other than Notepad), and try to paste into the Save Dialog to save your PDF, guaranteed crash.
HOWEVER, if you paste the text into Notepad first, and then copy it again, you can then paste into the Save dialog no problem.  This is why the "test" that the Adobe rep did to recreate the problem was pointless: He managed to re-create the one workaround method that DOES work, instead of actually trying to do things the way that were causing the issue to show up.
The problem appears to be related to any sort of "rich" text.  Windows ignores the "rich" information and only keeps the text if you paste into a filename in the system.  So Windows handles it just fine, it's Adobe's save dialog that can't handle it.  Copied text from Firefox is usually pretty clean (IE is worse), but there must be some formatting remnants in there that are giving Adobe fits (instead of properly ignoring them).  It may have something to do with 64-bit Windows and 32-bit Firefox and 64-bit Acrobat all coming together?  Copying and pasting between 64-bit and 32-bit programs usually has no issues, but in this case, it does (although the 64/32 bit relation is pure speculation on my end).
But by "washing" your text through Notepad first, it completely strips it down to truly pure plain text, which can then be pasted into Adobe's Save dialog without a crash.  This adds an extra step, and should be entirely unnecessary, but it does work.  At least until Adobe fixes their program.

  • Acrobat 9 prints half landscape page from windows 7 home

Acrobat 9 reader prints to 1/2 page in landscape mode. The only way I could get it to print correctly in portrait mode, full page was to choose advanced print option and select "Print as Image". I have tried every combination of print dialog settings, updated my printer driver, updated acrobat, and nothing else worked. Every other application works fine except acrobat 9. How can I get acrobat to print a full portrait page without selecting print as image?

I also have this problem, and I am thankful you guys wrote to "print as image".  I believe it is a glitch between Xerox printers and Adobe Reader/Adobe Reader X.  I was hooked up to Xerox Phaser 8560DN-279 and all .pdfs were printing in half page, booklet form.  I uninstalled and reinstalled my printer driver along with uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader.  Tried re-printing and it still printed in booklet form.  I then attached my computer to an HP printer, and it printed fine, full 8.5x11.  So I thought it was the printer connection.  I then attached a 3rd printer to my computer, Xerox Phaser 8560MFP, and once again all .pdfs were printed in booklet form.  So it seems to be to be a problem with adobe reader and xerox printers.

  • Acrobat 9 printing problem

    Here's the scenario:
Created a 1-age document in InDesign CS4, text with one jpeg. Created PDF. Tried to print from Acrobat 9.1.0 (Mac 10.5.6) but get error "Could not Print Document" then "No Pages were Selected."
Other jobs, created in InDesign CS4 (same day as previous job created). Saved to PDF using same settings, etc. Opened in Acrobat and printed fine.
PRoblem job would print fine from InDesign, and would print fine from Acrobat if Advanced Print option was set to "Print as Image". What could be going on with the Acrobat in the first job? Image in the document was a clean JPG (I also tried it with an EPS image with and without clipping paths). Same error every time.

All the text in the problem style is used elsewhere in the document on pages that will print fine on their own. In fact, I, myself, have no problems printing the PDF and no errors happened while making the PDF. A large amount (although not all people) had difficulty printing when they received an error simply saying the document could not be printed. Going page by page revealed the element that was causing the problem. Once the nested style was removed, the file worked fine.

  • Firefox 28 hangs when I try to print to Acrobat PDF printer

    Hello all!
I have observed a problem when I try to print a webpage in Firefox v28 using the Acrobat PDF Printer (Acrobat Pro 9.5.5) installed in a Virtual Machine (VMware View 5.2) with Windows 7 64 bits. The printing dialog hangs (no response) after the "Save as" pdf dialog. Then I have to force Firefox to close, and afterward a Acrobat PDF conversion dialogs appears with the progress bar stopped at the middle. I also have to close this afterwards.
The others programs (Office, IE, Notepad...) are able to print through the PDF printer without problems. The problem appeared after the automatic update to Firefox v28, since when I downgrade to Firefox v26 the problem disappears.
I checked a similar configuration in a physical computer (W7 64 bits, Acrobat Pro 9.5.5, Firefox v28), and everything runs good, so I think it is a change that happened in Firefox v28 that has some problem with the VM configuration. I also have tried to change the Firefox profile, reset Firefox and reset the printing settings and reinstall Acrobat. No luck.
I would like to know if somebody know some change in Firefox v28 related with the printing or related to some service or update that can have some problem in the virtual machine.
    Any help is welcome!
    Thanks!

When you updated, did you reset the printer settings in '''about:config''' under '''print.print_printer'''?

  • Acrobat PDF Printer Hangs in Windows 8

I am running Windows 8 Enterprise RTM  64-bit on an Intel i7-3770 3rd gen CPU, Z77 chipset. I've found that most PDF printers I have been using on Windows 7 now hang on 8, including the Acrobat X printer (latest version). I have found one free alternative that works fine, but would like to get back to using the Acrobat printer. Will Adobe be releasing an update that addresses the hang?
Above is a screenshot afterr more than ten minutes:

    Hello All
I have been struggling with this same problem of Printing to Acrobat PDF driver freezing up not only the print spooler, but also the software I was printing from, on Windows 7 64Bit, using both acrobat 9.4 and Acrobat X with the same freeze, stall lockup result.
I think this is the same problem you are having.
I found many questions about this online but no useful answers, and alot of fingerpointing trying to blame different programs and combinations of software.
The 1 solution, which created a PDF and did not freeze, was to switch of the choice of a saving location in the PDf driver and setting a fixed PDF save location instead of the ASK for location option.
This worked but was a real pain having to move and rename the file each time.
This got me thinking that there was actually nothing wrong with the PDF driver.
The problem seemed to be the user input to save the file to a certain location.
I then experimented and found that if I was fast enough with a file name, that the save to location option did not freeze up when creating the PDF.
By repeatedly trying to print and looking at the print dialog box I noticed that after a count of 5 seconds the Acrobat PDF print driver progress box greyed slightly (Asif loosing focus) and after that happened there was no hope of a successful PDF.
The 5second timer got me thinking about a windows timeout, rather than a PDF option.
    PDF Print Freeze Problem Solution:
Windows 7 64 bit (And I assume Windows 8 too) has a default program timeout of 5 seconds after which Windows considers a program to be NOT RESPONDING.
The time during which the PDF printer is waiting for a response from you for a save location, is seen as inactive by Windows and Windows decides that the Print driver has stalled.
Something then changes anough to effect the driver, and once the PDF print driver is allowed to carry on and save the PDF it can't anymore and stalls.
Solution is to edit the HungAppTimout in the Windows Registry, and set it to something like 20000 to 30000 = 20 to 30 seconds.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc978614.aspx (Info regarding the Registry Key)
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\HungAppTimeout
This then give you 20-30 seconds to select a save location for your PDF.
In my case (Windows 7 64bit) the Registry entry was missing.
I had to create it from scratch and reboot.
    If ENTRY IS MISSING:
Goto the folder in the registry
Right Click  - NEW - STRING VALUE
Name it exactly as above including CAPS: HungAppTimeout
Set the value to 20000 (For 20 seconds or more if you need it)
    Reboot Windows.
After that Printing to PDf with Acrobat works 100%.
Note this option also helped on my Windows XP PC.
I hope this prevents others from struggling as much as I did to fogure this out.
    Regards

When printing in Excel It is always want to use the acrobat X pro trial, which the trial is expired. I do not want to use acrobat X pro trial anymore. How can I reset it and use simple acrobat to print my PDF document?

    Hi screen name,
Adobe PDF printer gets installed when you install Acrobat 10 Pro.
To use this printer you need to purchase Acrobat. Once the trial period is over you cannot use the printer to create pdf files.
An alternative way for you is to utilize Microsoft's own inbuilt pdf engine.
You can simply open the file and select 'Save as' and in the type list select 'pdf'

  • Disabling "Save as..." popup in Acrobat Distiller printer driver

    Hi!
We are using an application which is automatically generating a pdf file using the Acrobat Distiller printer driver, but recently one workstation start poping up a Save as... window each time a file is generated (it is very annoying since this application is generating a lot of different reports).
How we could avoid having to confirm each time the name of the file? Registry setting?
    Thanks.

    Already did that.

  • Reader 9 Acrobat PDF Printer Driver Continuously Installs

Since I have installed Reader 9, the Acrobat PDF Printer Driver Continuously Installs in the background degrading system performance. Does anyone else have this problem? It auto created a System Restore point, so check that. I am running XP with all patches applies.

    Hi Mike,
I have exactly the same problem that you describe. At first I thought it might be malicious software that was installing a fake driver, but after running Malware, Spybot and some other programs, I'm still left with the problem. I have a lot of Adobe software installed (Adobe Premiere Elements 7, Adobe Acrobat Pro 8, Adobe Audition 3, Adobe PhotoShop 7 and of course Adobe Reader 9, plus as you indicate Adobe Air and Acrobat.com I'm not sure when my problem started, since I only recognized it when I went to do a system restore. It appears to install the driver about once a minute. This leaves me with about 3 days worth of useless restore points.
The only advice that I have received is to un-install all my Adobe stuff, then check the System Restore, then one by one re-install the packages checking each time what happens in the system restore.
Have you found any solution since your original post?

  • Reader XI.  Can't print protected mode doc

Reader XI.  Can't print protected mode doc. Printer help says to disable protected mode, choose Edit > Preferences and click Security (Enhanced) on the left. Deselect Enable Protected Mode At Startup. Close Reader, restart it, and try to print the document again.  WHERE DO I FIND EDIT/PREFERENCES?

    Hi no221bbakr,
Please describe the problem your are facing.
Are you not able to print any PDF document? or is it something else?
Why you need to disable protected mode.
NOTE : Purpose of Reader XI Protected Mode is to keep your system safe from PDF based exploits and keeping protected mode OFF will leave your system vulnerable.

  • Q: how can I get acrobat to print my email attachment?

I need someone to help me with acrobat to print something.

Thank you for your interest, and I appreciate your inquiring further, but I'm not sure this forum is going to be effective for my problem unfortunately.  Nevertheless, here's my situation:
    1. Recently McAfee was replaced by my server with Norton.  I believe when they uninstalled McAfee, they took my Adobe Acrobat with it.
    2.  I rec'd a "receipt" in my email (for a totally different and unrelated purchase) which I need to print.  I need Adobe Acrobat to do it.
    3.  I tried installing Adobe myself (severely techie-challenged) from adobe.com, and up came something about "purchasing" different types of Adobe Acrobat stuff. Nevertheless, I believe I did download Adobe, but I still can't print my receipt.
    4.  I really would like to speak with a customer svc rep and not handle this via this forum.  Again, I am flying in the dark here with trying to follow "simple" instructions about downloading, and of course, it was not successful.  I'd really appreciate speaking with a live human to handle this.  If there is an 800# I can call to connect with a techie who can help me solve this via telephone, I'd like to see it here.  (800-833-6687 led me to this forum).
    Thank you.

  • Exporting pdf "acrobat distiller printer description not found" ERROR!

I just upgraded my g4 to tiger and I am running quark 5 on it. I can no longer export pdfs. I get an error saying "acrobat distiller printer description not found." I am stumped and I NEED to get this working!!
Anybody who knows how to fix this please let me know!
    Thanks

You may need to re-install Adobe Acrobat Pro, assuming you need the functionality of Acrobat to create PDFs. To create simple PDF's there is a PDF menu on every print dialog box that does not require the Distiller printer description file.

  • Print protect an image??

    Hi,
I am wondering (and desperately hoping) there is a way to print protect an image....  I photograph student portraits for a chain of dance studios every year, and they have asked me to supply a large number of jpegs from these sessions so they can create a slideshow to display for their end of year concert.  I am reluctant to give them the files as they obviously can be reproduced.  (I also think that adding a large watermark though the image would look pretty terrible up on the big screen).  Is there a way to stop any printing (and possibly copying) ability on an image file??
    Thanks for your help!!

Great advice.  I will create a contract document to be signed on hand over of the images.
Thanks very much for your help
    Jodie.

  • Acrobat X -- printing -- Printer Order inverted

Good Morning Adobe-Team & other Guys,
we´re running a Windows Terminal Server 2008 with Acrobat X on it (updated 2 Weeks ago). After fixing the "protected Mode" issue on WTS Acrobat X is running really fine for us yet...
But theres still an "unattractiveness" that our users wanted us to solve:
When they want to print a pdf file the list of installed printer is inverted (z on the top and a on bottom) - ´the default printer is chosen automatically and is showing on first place in list... after that comes z, y, x etc.
Has anyone an idea why Acrobat X is doing this? How can i fix the Printer Order? Any Registry entry or something?
Before someone aks: Printer are installed "localy" on the WTS (no kind of Print-Server or sth.) - Printer Order in Windows Explorer is configured in the right way so this shouldn´t be the problem...
Hope someone could help - if not our users have to live this
Edit: made a screenshot for you:
    Thanks for your time!

I don't know what the fix is, but I can confirm that I see the same thing: printer order is reversed in Adobe Reader X, version 10.0.1. I'm running on Windows XP Professional.
