Acrobat 9 Pro fails to launch

We had to reinstall Adobe CS4 on a workstation. Acrobat 9 pro was installed as part of this. Acrobat 9 worked for a couple of days and now it fails to launch.
We attempted to fix the install, that did not work.
We attempted to reinstall and received 2 separate messages.
1-Acrobat is running
2-Speed Launcher is running.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Fails to install

I am trying to re-install Acrobat 9 Pro onto an iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo machine with 3 GB RAM. The computer is already running without any problem Acrobat 8 Pro but I want to install the new version.  I copy the files across to the Applications folder and then open the application, but it fails soon after launching.  I do not reach the point of getting to enter any information - it simply crashes every time.  I have tried to delete various preference files but to no avail.
A critical point is that the software was running successfully PRIOR to my having to reinstall the system software.  All the other software on the computer still works fine, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and (as I said) Acrobat 8 Pro.  I cannot find what is wrong but a colleague at work suggested I needed to delete all the files related to the previous installation of Acrobat 9 (prior to the system reinstall).  Trouble is it is difficult to identify what all these files are.  I have used the Uninstall application to remove the obvious files and then tried again to install the software to no avail.
I would appreciate some advice on how to solve this.  It is annoying having paid for the new version of the software only to find I cannot install it on the machine.  I am sure there is some left over file that was corrupted when my system software crashed and needed reinstallation, but I cannot identify what it (or they) is (are).
I have already spent probably close to 6 hours on this and it is driving me nuts.  HELP.
    Thanks,

Sorry - very slopy of me in the original post.  I am running 10.5.8.  The problems started when I had to downgrade from 10.6.  I was getting critical kernal panics 4-5 times a day (black screen of death) since installing 10.6 and I could not continue.  Numerous applications would simply crash for no reason.  Thje operating I had to reinstall was 10.5 and then I ran the updates to bring it uip to 10.5.8.
I have run all of the patches:  910, 911. 912 and 913 on the application and it still will not install.
I am installing a volume license version - you drag the entire folder across to the applications and the first time you launch the application it then runs the installation routine.  Mine is crashing soon after it starts.

  • Acrobat X Pro fails to start

    Windows XP SP3.
Acrobat X Pro 10.1.4.38 (part of CS6 Design Standard) fails to start.  When double-clicking the desktop shortcut, Acrobat.exe shows very briefly in the Task Manager, then disappears.
There is nothing showing in the Event logs that would indicate any problem with Acrobat.
Any ideas how to diagnose that problem, or suggestions how to proceed?
    Thank you in advance!

Went backwards through the forum topics until I found a similar post with this solution http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html
    Now Acrobat X launches correctly.

  • Acrobat 9 Pro quits after launch

I just got a new iMac and transferred all of my files + apps from a backup drive. I went from OSX Snow Leopard to Lion 10.8.2 OS. When I went to launch my Acrobat 9 Pro, it said that it was part of a suite and I needed to open one of the CS5 apps. (I have CS5 Design Standard) I launched ALL of the apps in CS5, but Acrobat still wouldn't open. I reinstalled Illustrator CS5 once and Acrobat 9 twice from the original discs, but it still didn't work. (Uninstalled Acrobat first before resinstalling.) After the 2nd reinstall of Acrobat 9, I got a dialog that said "Licensing for this product has stopped working". Called Adobe support and all licensing checks out fine.
Using Acrobat Pro is VITAL to my business in preparing files for press almost daily. Any workarounds or help would be greatly apreciated.

Oops, sorry, missed that (that you did the uninstall/reinstall tango. The problem is still likely associated with having copied a whole system image or files over. Unfortunately, this is something that Adobe has to directly assist you with. Were you waiting 2 hours just to speak with someone or were you on with someone for two hours who wasn't able to help. If the latter, ask for a supervisor.
If you still can't get assistance, please contact me with a private message.

  • Acrobat XI Pro fails with a fall back error on Win 7 and 8

I have been trying for a month to install acrobat XI pro on both win 7 & 8 machines with no success. They get to within 5 sec of finishing and fail with no error code just a message the something interrupted the installation and it was performing a roll back. I have tried this on a new machine with no adobe products installed as well as a machine I am upgrading from Acrobat x pro to Acrobat XI pro.
I have spent hours on the phone with Adobe with no solution, I have searched the Internet and find many people experiencing the same problem but nowhere is there a solution.
I need the product for business and am about at whit's end.  Can anyone help? Is there a solution?
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I and many other people have successfully installed in Win 7 and Win 8 without issue, so something specific with your system is the cause. Run the Acrobat cleaner to remove anything left over from previous attempts.
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
Then make sure that all extraneous software is turned off. No virus or spyware protection, nothing running in the background that you don't need to have running. I haven't tried in Windows 8, but in Windows 7:
    click on the start menu
in the Search panel type: msconfig
See if you can install during a Safe boot. If something is necessary for installation that is not available during a Safe boot,
then look Startup Processes and turn off what you can, reboot and try again.

  • Update 9.0.2 to Acrobat 9 Pro fails to install

Am trying to update Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, and the update fails to install

Normally you would do the updates from the Help>Updates menu from within Acrobat. Sometimes the server has issue or other problems come up and the updates do not work for some reason. The current level of AA 9 is 9.5.5. To do the updates manually, go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows (similar for MAC, but you did not state the OS), download from the latest to the earliest. The reason for this order is to note with each update the previous update that is needed. Then install the updates in order. You only have to reboot after the last update.

  • Acrobat X Pro | Will not launch

    Moved to a new laptop.
Deactivated Acrobat X Pro on old laptop
Reinstalled Acrobat X Pro (with Sr # - not trial version)
Installs OK. PDF Printer installed and works.
But Acrobat will not launch, after the initial 'splash' screen.
    No error messages.
    Same with Distiller.
PDF documents open with Reader only
Windows 7 - 64 bit - Same as on old laptop. Worked perfectly well on old laptop.

    Update:
Had a support ticket set up and got a call back pretty quick from the Adobe Support Team.
Unintalled Reader X - to avoid possible conflict with X Pro.
Deleted cache and pcd files from CommonFiles/Adobe PCD
Logged out of domain user profile
Logged in as a local user
Acrobat lauched, connected with Adobe, and worked ok.
Logged out as local user and logged in again as normal user.
Acrobat X Pro lauched and works fine.
Thank you for the quick resolution.

  • Combine supported files in Acrobat 10 Pro fails for password protected files

I use Acrobat 10 Pro and wanted to combine a number of pdf-files to one big file.
It failed because the files in question have a permission password.
After I bought Acrobat on first creation of a pdf-file I was asked set a password
    for reading and/or modifying it.
I decided to set no password for reading, but one for modification namely
    <christian-name>.<surname> . I noted this down.
When I got the error indication after I tried to combine some pdf-files I tried
to remove the permission password. I was asked my password, but the program
    refuses to take it.
What can i do, except to scan all the invoved pdf-documents once again, this time
without any password. It's quite a lot of them.
    Thanks in advance.
    Michael

    Hi thandman,
Acrobat 8 is not certified for Win 7 64 bit, so this may just be the first issue you will encounter.
    Hope this helps,

  • Installation Acrobat XI Pro fails - solved

    Hello.
Just to let you know: Installing Acrobat XI Pro from Creative Cloud failed on Windows 7. Other programs like Photoshop installed fine, though.
Checking the previously installed programs there was "Adobe PDF creation Add-On XI" which came with a test version of FrameMaker 12. After uninstalling the Add-On, Acrobat XI could be installed.

    Hi Guido ,
    That sounds perfect.
    Stay well .

  • Adobe Acrobat XI Pro won't launch

I have installed Adobe Acrobat XI Pro as part of Creative Cloud.
Right after downloading and installing Acrobat will launch just fine.  After a few days it will not launch and will only create a process in windows task manager.
    Any help please.
I am running Windows 7, and I only purchased Creative Cloud 2 weeks ago, so it have been less than the 30 days trial period.
    Thanks

All I can suggest at this point is to go to Control Panel>Programs & Features and click on Acrobat. You will get an option to repair. When you have finished with the repair (assuming it works), then go to Help>Updates and update your installation. You can also download the update from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows and install 11.0.06. Last I checked, 11.0.06 will update all the way back to 11.0. This is not always the case, so looking at the last version that is needed to do updates is always a good idea.

  • Acrobat X Pro won't launch

My adobe 5 suite keeps updating and last month after update, Acrobat no longer launches.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled just Acrobat and still get same problem.  I can launch PDFs in Reader.  But nothing happens with Acrobat X Pro.

Try going to the Control Panel>Programs..., how ever you might do that in WIn 8.1 -- I guess from the settings menu. Select Acrobat X and do a repair. If that allows you to open Acrobat, then go to help and run the updates or use the updates from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows

  • Have Acrobat XI Std, installation of Acrobat XI Pro fails, version incompatibility

Running Windows 7 Pro on work Thinkpad.
Trial version of Acrobat XI Pro as of Dec 4, 2014 is 11.0.07
Licensed version of installed Acrobat XI Std is 11.0.09
Installer downloads, but when the splash panel displays and I press Next, I get the message that a more functional version is available and it bails.
Obvious why the error occurred. Makes me wonder if Pro features are hidden inside Std, the way IBM used to take the DP Manager out to lunch while the CE flipped a switch for more MIPS upgrade. ;-)
I simply want to check out the multi-media features before committing to upgrade.
Will try using another computer, thought you would like to know about the problem.

Sadly you cannot run Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro at the same time. The message is rather the wrong way round but basically a hint in the right direction.
You would need to uninstall Acrobat Standard. Be sure you have EVERYTHING you need to reinstall including disks and serial numbers before considering this!

  • Acrobat X Pro failed to connect to a dde server

I've been running Win 7 64 bit with near flawless results for some time now. This morning I made a pdf via ID but couldn't get Acrobat to open it up. I tried other, older pdfs with no luck. Double clicking on Acrobat X Pro gets me no where except the message that you see in my subject line.
I'll mention too that my Adobe updater updated an obscure Adobe program this morning and I'm wondering if that had something to do with it? Is there a way to find and roll back that update?
I've got work to do! Any suggestions?

Sounds like the update is your problem. Try going to the control panel -- programs and features -- and do a repair to Acrobat.

  • Trial download of Acrobat XI Pro fails

I try to download a trial of Acrobat XI Pro. It starts downloading CS6 - over and over. Then it decides to try Elements 13. Then I decide to accept the CS6 downloads. It is an incomplete download, even though it claims to be "complete." I am using Firefox. What is wrong with Adobe's downloads? Have tried this way too many times. Why should a download be such a problem at Adobe?
