Acrobat 9 Pro- Link to a Specific Set of Pages

I appologise if this has been asked before but I searched and searched and could not find anything.
In short, we have a 300+ page PDF catalogue which is going to be put onto USB sticks. The catalogue has an Index at the back, and we'd like users to be able to click on a product in the index then be presented with only the specific pages that are relevent. For example, if you click Apples in the Index, then only pages 4, 10 and 102 with Apples on, open.
We've had this done in Flash before but want to stay away from anything that complex. Is there away to achieve this in Acrobat? The only thing I can think of is saving a seperate document, e.g. "Apples" which has only pages 4, 10 and 102 then create a link from the index to open this seperate PDF document. However, this will impact greatly on file size on the USB.
Any advice would be greatfully recieved. Also, if there is another less complex way of only calling up specific pages that may be easier than this that would be great, I cannot think anymore!

Only if the users are using Acrobat, not Reader. Then you could extract the pages with a script and present them in a new (temporary) file.
If they use Reader your only option is to create the set of pages in advance and then open them when the link is clicked, but that would take more space, like you mentioned.

Since there were no answers, I will take a stab at a reponse. For the 2nd method, I suspect you could simply select the print or press job options to get the desired results or turn off "use local fonts" in Acrobat. If you check the font list, the fonts are probably not embedded and that is likely the problem.
I noticed that you have both Reader and Acrobat installed and that might cause some conflict, but should not be the issue here. If you were to uninstall Reader, you would have to repair Acrobat. The conflict here is that you might have problems with the one opening when you want the other. If it works for you, then don't worry about it.
For technique 1, I suspect you may be using IE 9 that has apparently been a problem since it came out. I have refused to install it. However, it may simply be that PDF Maker does not work correctly with your browser, or got deactivated and needs to be allowed to run in your browser (IE I am assuming).

Is there a quick way in Outlook 2007 (using Acrobat Pro X) to change the setting for including/excluding attachments when exporting email ?

I have to export Outlook 2007 email a hundred times a day. Most of the time I do not want the attachments included with the email because I have to save them off to various directories and do not want or need to double up the storage space. However, every couple days, there is an email that I have to save with the attachments. So I have to go into the Adobe settings, change to include attachments. Save the email. Go back into settings, change it back to not include the attachments.
Is there a way - shortcut key, ctrl-alt combinataion, something, that will allow me to save that one email every couple days with attachments without having to go into the settings?
I am using Outlook 2007 with Adobe Acrobat Pro X on a Windows 7 PC.

Acrobat Pro X Opens Every Document Directly to Page 2. WTF?????

Hello. I updated to Acrobat Pro X and now when I try to open a PDF file from a link on my website, it automatically opens every document starting on Page 2, instead of Page 1 as I have set in "Properties"
When I open the documents independent of the web browser, they open directly to Page 1, as specified.
What gives?
Anyone else having this problem?
I think I might punch Adobe Acrobat right in its face as my customers are going to open the docs on my site and go "WTF????????!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!" and then poop their pants.

I was having a similar problem, but only when viewing PDFs that were set to "fit page", and only when viewing in the browser. "Fit width" PDFs worked fine.
I am running Pro 9 but made the mistake of installing Reader X. (This could explain why PDFs opened locally were fine, but those opened in a browser are not.)
I finally uninstalled Reader X. PDFs now open to page 1 properly. Strangely, I didn't have to reinstall Reader 9... I guess it's now using Pro 9 to view in the browser?
Not sure if this is a bug in Reader/Pro X or just a problem with having different versions of Reader and Pro on the same machine, but I thought I'd at least add a "me too" to the topic.

Acrobat Pro 9.5.4 crashes when inserting pages into exisitng PDF

When I try to insert pages into an exisitng PDF document Acrobat Pro 9.5.4 running on Mac OS 10.8.2 hangs and crashes every time. Please HELP!!!

Any PDF I try and insert to any PDF. It does not seem to be isolated to one document.

Adobe acrobat anchor link not going to the right page.

I have anchor link from html page like http://www,pbgc.gov/docs/2006bluebook.pdf#page=15, when you try to click the link on my machine and some other employees it goes to first page rather than going to page 15. Other employees get page 15. Have anyone experience this issue or know why this issue happen in Adobe Acrobat.
Most our employees have Adobe Acrobat 8, Also there are some who have Adobe Acrobat 9. I was thinking it may due to the version but someone with Adobe 8 is also having the issue.

Is Adobe Reader being opened as a plugin in your browser, or as an external application? I think the links to specific locations in the document only work if Adobe Reader is used as a plugin. I've had the same problem, and it was because I didn't have Reader as a browser plugin.

The Program is not open and it errors out. Can someone tell what's going on? I have plenty of disk space, running XP home addition. Version of Program is 9.3.0.

Acrobat Pro 9.4.4 occasionally prints web pages as garbage

When I'm on a secure site like online banking, when I try to print a confirmation page it sometimes prints the DATA out as special characters, etc. Even using the page's "Print" command doesn't help. I'm not sure if this coincides with any update or not.
I can use the Windows XPS printer and it works fine.

Aha! Another useful bit of info. You should do a search on IE 9. That may be the problem. There have been many reported problems with IE 9. Sometimes it also helps to provide the URL to the site you are trying to print so others can try to see what problems they might have.

I would like to create a plugin for adobe acrobat pro 9.0...

I would like to create a plugin for adobe acrobat pro 9.0 in order to compare pages, delete the same pages and mark pages from first compared document with new and mark pages from second compared document with original. I downloaded the SDK for adobe 9.0 but now I am not sure how to continue? Do I need Visual Studio or can I use another program that is a freeware? What other program do you recommend? How can I open an .api file in order to see the code? Do I need to place the SDK files in a specific place?

1. You will need Visual Studio. Getting your first plug-in to compile can be an ordeal, be sure to use a sample project and work with it exactly.
2. API files are the work of other programmers. You cannot look inside, and to try to do so is a breach of most software licenses.
3. API files are installed to the Acrobat plug-ins folder.
4. You will not find samples or code to copy/paste. You should be an experienced C/C++ programmer, you should be familiar with the basics of the PDF file format ISO 32000-1, and you should be prepared to read thousands of pages of documentation.

Acrobat Pro 9 freezes when trying to edit preferences

I have Acrobat Pro 9.3.4
When I try to Edit-> Preferences, the application locks up. It eventually goes to 'not responding" and I have to kill it using Task Manager.
I found this problem when I was troubleshooting a customer's issue where he could not Extract pages from a PDF document. The Extract window would come up, he would put in the pages he wanted and start the process. It would act like its going through the motions but nothing would happen and he would have to open task manager to stop the Acrobat process.
I was able to duplicate the problem with my Administrator account. I also found the same problem when I tried to go to Edit > Preferences. Acrobat went into a not responding state and I had to kill the process using Task Manager.
I have verified that the problem is not document specific: It happens on multiple documents. If I copy the document to another machine with Acrobat Pro 9, I have no problem Extracting pages.
I have uninstalled Acrobat Pro 9. That included removing c:\program files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\acrobat* and c:\program files\common files\Adobe\Acrobat\* I rebooted the computer and then reinstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. Same problem for both my regular and my administrator accounts.
I have compared permissions and registry entries between this machine and one where its working but have not found any differences.
Any suggestions on what else to try would be greatly appreciated.

You would think. However, repairing Adobe, uninstalling (including deleting registry entries, c:\program files\common files\Adobe\Acrobat\* and c:\program files\Adobe\* , etc) did not resolve the issue.

Acrobat Pro XI Will Not Print Word Document with a Rotated Table

I have a MS Word document that is mostly text, but include a table that has been rotated in a text box to fit on the page. When I try to print to PDF using Acrobat Pro XI, the document crashes at the page the table is on.
I have tried several attempts to print using the Acrobat Printer, convert to PDF feature and trying to print just the page alone. Acrobat will simply not print word document with a rotated table.
Any idea how to fix this?

In the full document, the print to PDF goes only as far as the table, then ends - not printing the table. The remaining pages are not printed.
For example, I have trimmed the file down to just the table page, and included links to it, and a copy of the PDF it generated.

The error message I now get when I try to print is: "There is not enough memory or disk space to repaginate or print this document."
However, with the Task manager open, the memory never seems to get above half of the available (the graph bar fluctuates a little, but stays stable")
The page prints to a regular HP or Xerox printer with no problems.

Help with browser issue - Acrobat Pro default for PDF

I have Acrobat Pro CS3 set as default for reading pdf's, because I often have to edit the pdf's I open. This works fine with pdf's I open from disk.
However, it seems that somehow Acrobat Pro has taken over as default for opening pdf's inside browsers as well. My plugins list in FF shows "Adobe Acrobat 9.1.0.163 Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape". Whenever I navigate to a page which is a pdf, the entire Acrobat Pro external program opens, displaying a blank page and an error message popup - when I click OK on the error, the application closes and the pdf opens in the browser window - sometimes this requires several tries before it opens in browser.

I have Reader 9 installed on system, and I am downloading Reader 10 just to see if a reinstall will correct this.
Any suggestions on how to set system up with Acrobat Pro as default for opening pdf's from disk, and having browser directly use a plugin?

Thanks Chris - That did EXACTLY what I wanted it to do.
I was able to create a button that prompts the user to save the form, then it hides the price fields, then it flattens, then it e-mails the form. The order was important since I wanted the salesperson to be able to save the "not-flattened" form.

FrameMaker 8.0p277 and printing to Acrobat Pro 8 & 9

All this year (2009) I've been working on several contract documents using FrameMaker's conditional text facility.
FrameMaker is 8.0p277 and the OS is Windows XP Pro SP3.
In May the old workstation became cantankerous so I updated to a new HP xw4600 with a Quad Core, 4GB ram, and 2 x 250GB SATA disks. Cool!
I applied all the MS updates and then treated myself to a clean install of Adobe Design Premium CS4, then installed and updated FrameMaker 8.0 (without the PDF Maker). The Adobe Acrobat Professional 9.0 in CS4 was patched to 9.1.2.
If I open a document in InDesign CS4 and print it to the 'Adobe PDF' printer everything works just fine. Same for Illustrator CS4.
But FrameMaker fails with this message:

Howsomever, if I print the same document to my HP laserjet 4300dtn (or the laserjet 5200 or the FujiXerox DocuPrint 2100) it works just fine. So I assume the document itself is OK.
If I select the printer to be one of the 3 above and then print to file (and create a .PS file), and then open it in Distiller 9.1.2 it produces a perfect .PDF file (shades of Acrobat 3 and the watched folders here!). But, if I select AdobePDF printer as my output device before generating the .PS file, Distiller reports parsing errors and does not produce output.
With a doffed hat to Arnis and Dov I refrained from trying 'save to PDF'
This looks like a corrupt printer driver...
After talking to Adobe Support (ID 121 702 309) I have tried each of the following (and then re-run my testing cycle as outlined above):
Running the 'Repair Acrobat Installation' process from Acrobat Pro 9.1.2.
Setting Acrobat PDF as my default printer (strong whiff of "eyes of a bat and wings of a newt" about THAT suggestion).
Un-installed and then reinstalled Acrobat Pro 9.1.2.
Un-installed and reinstalled FrameMaker 8.0p277.
Un-installed and then reinstalled Acrobat Pro 8.1.4.
Un-installed and reinstalled FrameMaker 8.0p277.
Sworn loudly.

Hi Laurence,
If you can produce PDFs from the AdoebPDF via ID and AI by printing, then I'd suspect that the driver is probably ok. (Note: from ID and AI, it is better to SaveAs PDF, since these have their own internal PDF generation capabilities.)
Also, with FM8, if you're making interactive PDFs (i.e. not for press), then it is ok to do the SaveAsPDF route, since FM has some post-processing modules that kick in to clean-up the .tps file prior to handing it over to Distiller. So, the process is no longer is identical to printing to file and distilling.
On the FM side, make sure that the tagged PDF setting is turned off in your PDF setup and have the setting for generating named destinations for all paragraphs enabled.
You also might want to download Sundorne's SetPrint ( http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm ) utility to ensure that you always have the same printer instance (AdobePDF) enabled when you start FM.

Last desperation move would be to create a new custom PDF printer instance using the Distller PPD and a copy of the AdobePS installer.
