Acrobat 9 Pro Mac os x 4.11 Application Quit... Creating Multi-page pdf from scanner

Has anyone encountered this problem? I set my option to prompt me for more pages to scan. When the first page is done, I respond to the dialog box that there are more pages to scan. Then, Acrobat quits.<br /><br />This is the report from the error message:<br /><br />Date/Time:      2008-06-28 11:53:36.320 -0500<br />OS Version:     10.4.11 (Build 8S2167)<br />Report Version: 4<br /><br />Command: AdobeAcrobat<br />Path:    /Applications/Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro/Adobe Acrobat Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/AdobeAcrobat<br />Parent:  WindowServer [61]<br /><br />Version: 9.0.0 (9.0.0)<br /><br />PID:    23356<br />Thread: 0<br /><br />Exception:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)<br />Codes:      KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x1f711f7b<br /><br />Thread 0 Crashed:<br />0   libobjc.A.dylib                     0x90a594c0 objc_msgSend + 16<br />1   com.apple.Foundation                0x92812431 __NSFireMainThreadPerform + 352<br />2   com.apple.CoreFoundation            0x90860375 __CFRunLoopPerformPerform + 82<br />3   com.apple.CoreFoundation            0x9082cf06 CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 1213<br />4   com.apple.CoreFoundation            0x9082ca42 CFRunLoopRunInMode + 61<br />5   com.apple.HIToolbox                 0x92df1878 RunCurrentEventLoopInMode + 285<br />6   com.apple.HIToolbox                 0x92df0eb9 ReceiveNextEventCommon + 184<br />7   com.apple.HIToolbox                 0x92df0dd9 BlockUntilNextEventMatchingListInMode + 81<br />8   com.apple.AppKit                    0x93276f45 _DPSNextEvent + 572<br />9   com.apple.AppKit                    0x93276b37 -[NSApplication nextEventMatchingMask:untilDate:inMode:dequeue:] + 137<br />10  com.apple.AppKit                    0x932708c4 -[NSApplication run] + 512<br />11  com.adobe.Acrobat.framework         0x7febb18c RunAcrobat + 3090<br />12  com.adobe.Acrobat.framework         0x7feba6b8 RunAcrobat + 318<br />13  com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro               0x00002e8b start + 2371<br />14  com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro               0x0000264a start + 258<br />15  com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro               0x00002571 start + 41<br /><br />Thread 1:<br />0   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x900248c7 semaphore_wait_signal_trap + 7<br />1   ...ple.CoreServices.CarbonCore      0x90cb8e0d MPWaitOnQueue + 198<br />2   AdobeACE                            0x7fc1dd8d ACEMPThread::Task() + 133<br />3   AdobeACE                            0x7fc1dd01 TaskGlue + 17<br />4   ...ple.CoreServices.CarbonCore      0x90cb8c68 PrivateMPEntryPoint + 51<br />5   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x90024227 _pthread_body + 84<br /><br />Thread 2:<br />0   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x900248c7 semaphore_wait_signal_trap + 7<br />1   AdobeAGM                            0x7e574984 pthread_condition_base::Wait(pthread_scoped_lock_base&) + 26<br />2   AdobeAGM                            0x7e5748b5 AGMMessageQueueImpl::Pull() + 65<br />3   AdobeAGM                            0x7e963fc4 AGMWorkQueueTask::operator()() + 84<br />4   AdobeAGM                            0x7e96524f boost::function0<void, std::allocator<boost::function_base> >::operator()() const + 75<br />5   AdobeAGM                            0x7e57476d thread_proxy + 45<br />6   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x90024227 _pthread_body + 84<br /><br />Thread 3:<br />0   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x900248c7 semaphore_wait_signal_trap + 7<br />1   com.apple.Foundation                0x9284f2fc -[NSConditionLock lockWhenCondition:] + 39<br />2   com.apple.AppKit                    0x9334dcb4 -[NSUIHeartBeat _heartBeatThread:] + 377<br />3   com.apple.Foundation                0x927f939c forkThreadForFunction + 123<br />4   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x90024227 _pthread_body + 84<br /><br />Thread 4:<br />0   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x90026d5c kevent + 12<br />1   com.adobe.Acrobat.framework         0x8076aa4f CopiesPagesPDE_Open + 6578747<br />2   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x90024227 _pthread_body + 84<br /><br />Thread 5:<br />0   libSystem.B.dylib                   0x900248c7 semaphore_wait_signal_trap + 7<br />1   com.apple.Foundation                0x9284f2fc -[NSConditionLock lockWhenCondition:] + 39<br />2   ...adobe.acrobat.amtlibwrapper      0x0ea6b2d1 AVAMTForegroundUpdateCheckEnabled + 116699<br />3   ...adobe.acrobat.amtlibwrapper      0x0ea60341 AVAMTForegroundUpdateCheckEnabled + 71755<br />4   ...adobe.acrobat.amtlibwrapper      0x0ea69d60 AVAMTForegroundU

I don't have 9 yet. But you can try to fix permissions. If that doesn't
work you can try to work as another user. If it works now you have a
preference file problem. However, there is a remote chance that the
issue is a incomparability between Acrobat and the twain driver.

  • Create PDF from Scanner using Acrobat X Pro

I am using trial Acrobat X Pro. When I attempt to Create PDF documents from Scanner using Epson Perfection 4490 Photo flat-bed scanner I get pop-up that states Epson cannot be started.  This also occurs when I Create PDF from Scanner > Custom Scan > Scanner when I select Epson Perfection 4490 scanner. My scanner is turned on when I attempt to create PDF from scanner. I have no problem scanning documents and then creating PDF documents from file, but I would like to eliminate this step.  Thanks in advance--any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is a tricky problems as hundreds have had the same problem. Research on the net demonstrated that no one had the solution. Some have even thrown perfectly good scanners away. The problem is most likely  obtaining permission from Win 7 security. Don't bad mouth Adobe Acrobat or your scanner software. This solution will work and has been tested to work. You must be logged in as administrator. This will not help Mac User.
    1. Find the file acroscanbroker.exe
    2. Select properties
    3. Select security tab
    4. Select "users/*********
    5. Edit settings
    6. Full control  Check box
    7. Modify         Check box
    8. Read and Execute    Check box
    9. Read            Check box
    10. Write           Check box
Your scanner should now work and any grayed out menus should come to life.

  • Reinstalled Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 won't let me print web pages to PDFs

I'm really ticked at Adobe's "help" in updating the program only to cause a lot of misery.  I'd read Acrobat had a security update, and got a constant reminder from Adobe update to install the available update.  I've been using Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 with absolutely no problems printing web pages to PDFs.  I installed the 8.1.7 update which immediately disabled Acrobat completely.  So I wasted a lot of time uninstalling Acrobat and reinstalling sequential versions to get back to 8.1.6.  Now I can't print web pages to a PDF.
I had NOT done anything else to installed programs in the meantime, except that probably Norton has automatically updated antivirus files in the background.  I don't have any problems using Acrobat to open and print an existing PDF, or to create new PDFs from my scanner.  I can do a hardcopy print of a webpage by selecting my Brother printer.  From Word 2002 and Excel 2002, I can create a PDF by "printing" to Acrobat as usual.   The only problem is creating a PDF by "printing" a webpage by selecting Acrobat as the device from the list of available printers.  This problem happens both with Firefox and with Internet Explorer 7.
I have Windows XP Pro SP3.  I did the most recent Windows Tuesday security update several days before messing around with Acrobat and did not have any problems printing PDF files from Firefox or IE7.  So, it seems like it's clearly an Adobe Acrobat problem.  I get the small box saying "Preparing to Print" which goes nowhere and then I have to use the Task Manager to get out of the loop.  That closes Firefox, and when I reopen Firefox, the same webpage comes up.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 Multi-page PDF Printing backwards thumbnails

Any time I create a multi-page PDF and ask it to print, it will print the first page correctly and then print every subsequent page as a mirror image thumbnail in the corner of the paper. If I print each page individually it prints fine. After doing a fair bit of testing, I've found the following:
If I de-select the option "choose paper source by pdf page size" this issue does not happen. Unfortunately, this means any multi-page PDF with 8x11 and 11x17 doesn't print the 11x17 pages properly as it just prints them on 8x11 paper.
If I select "print as image" this issue does not happen. Unfortunately, this is unacceptable due to the blurring of lines and text that occurs when selecting this option.
I haven't tested the various page scaling options because I am producing scaled maps, and must therefore leave it set to "none".
Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to resolve the issue? Printing 10-20 page documents one sheet at a time isn't exactly an ideal solution.

Unfortunately, not only does this not solve the problem with multi-page-size documents, but it's begun happening on files which are all one size as well, where that box isn't even checked.
It appears that what's happening is the newer versions of Adobe Acrobat don't play nicely with emulated postscript support past a certain date. We're replacing our Canon with a newer model that has actual postscript support, and if that resolves the issue I'll be certain to post confirmation here. Copies of Adobe Acrobat 7 and 8 in our office haven't seen this problem at all; it's simply everyone who has upgraded past that point that can't print reliably.
More news next week, after we get the new copier.

  • Acrobat 9 Quits When Create PDF from Scanner Selected

Hi. I wonder if anyone can advise please.
I have recently installed Acrobat 9 on my MacBook Pro and have plenty of RAM. However, I can "Create PDF from Scanner" just the once. After that, Acrobat quits when I select Scan or quits if I cancel the scan.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Troubleshoot System Errors & Freezes
    2. New User account
    3. Recreated Preferences
    4. Booted from separate disk
    5. Repaired disk permissions
    6. Have no third party plug-ins installed
    7. Have run Repair Acrobat
    8. Changed Universal Access
    9. Defragmented disk & repaired files
    10. Safe Boot and reinstall Acrobat
Nothing has worked except when I clean install I can scan through Acrobat once.
I can scan from the scanner software - Lexmark 4850 - with a jpeg straight to Acrobat but want to try to solve the issue of scanning straight from the app.
    Thanks for your help people.
    Regards
    Paul

After I discovered my problem of quitting after completing the scan of the first side of a 2-sided document and decided to go to Adobe for help, I should have known I was in real trouble after following their instructions for locating the Acrobat serial number. After bringing up the splash screen and clicking on it, instead of seeing the number the splash screen disappeared! So I had no option but to use the phone. Then their help person couldn't give me the serial number- he had to transfer me- and I chose to stay with him for help instead. He decided it was a conflict between the Acrobat & HP software and ended the help session.
I then did some on-line research and discovered others with the same problem, and came up with the comparison test with the Windows version. Adobe's phone system didn't recognize my Case #, but the second Help person said it worked fine. At that point, I got the feeling that I was in real trouble. After another hour going over the same ground and repeated denials that their software was at fault, the Helper refused my request that they do a Windows comparison test or send me a Windows version to test myself and promised to call me back with results of their "research". That call never came.
On the third call, again with the Case # unrecognized by the phone system, the Helper was even more unhelpful, probably after reading the record of the first two calls. He insisted on going back to the machine and over the same ground once again, and I ended the call.
I agree that the on line approach is better, and I may have to make a double call to get the serial number (neither of the two I have, each different on the case or on the CD worked) and try that if my request for a supervisor fails. Fortunately they are so incompetent that they can't track starting over.
I'm not a programmer, but have lots of varying experience with computers dating back to the first Atari-400. Since your Acrobat uses only the Twain driver component from your scanner software, the first place to look for a problem is in the Acrobat software, especially since the software doesn't run again after the first use without reinstalling, and the scanner continues to perform properly using it's installed software. The Windows comparison test such as Tim Whitfield was able to make, would clearly establish the Mac version of the Acrobat software to be at fault, but would still not resolve our problems. Unfortunately I hold out little hope for either you or I with Adobe, since neither their phone nor the online help has come up with a prior fix. This indicates a bug fix requirement, which for something like this looks to be a relatively long time in coming.

  • Create PDF from Scanner on Mac

Using Acrobat Pro X, when I select Create PDF from Scanner, Acrobat does not find my scanner.  The scanner was added according to the MAC instructions and does work by itself.  It is visible in System Preferences/Print Fax as indicated in the Mac instructions.  But when I got to Create PDF in Acrobat, it asks me to choose the scanner but it is not available in the drop down list.  Any suggestions?

You cannot use older twain drivers (ppc) to scan to pdf from within Acrobat 9 or X. It requires Intel specific twain drivers, which not all scanner companies provide.  You will need to either use the software that came with your scanner to scan to PDF or TIFF. If it scans to TIFF you can import those files into Acrobat.

Safari 7.0.6, using Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10, isn't rendering pdf files in the Print Preview screen.  Additionally, only a single, blank page prints for a multi-page pdf document.  Any ideas?

Figured it out.  It had nothing to do with the software levels of Safari or Adobe Acrobat.  Here's the fix:
    Open Finder/Applications
    Search "Internet Plug-Ins"
Move any Adobe plug-ins to the trash
    Quit Safari
    Launch Safari
Your pdf document should now render in Print Preview and print properly.

This might be a scanner issue. Have you tried scanning using other applications?
If not, can you try the following steps once?
    1. Download TWACKER (Twack_32.msi) from http://www.twain.org/downloads.shtm
    2. Install it.
    3. Go to <Program files>\TWAIN Working Group\Twacker 32 and invoke Twack_32.exe.
    4. Go to File menu > Select Source.
    5. Select the TWAIN driver (not the WIA driver) for HP M1212nf and Click OK.
    6. Now, invoke File > Acquire menu.
    Please update with the result.

    Sabian,
As I mentioned before, I have used the following methods, each resulting the same, split up PDF file.
File>Save As - Selected PDF from under the Format dropdown menu.
File>Print>PDF - used Save As PDF
File>Print>PDF - used Save As Adobe PDF

  • Create PDF from scanner with Acrobat 11.0.6

Ever since Acrobat updated to 11.0.6 the create pdf from scanner option will not complete. I am running OS X 10.9.1 on a Macbook Air as well as a Macbook Pro. The Macbook Air updated to Acrobat version 11.0.6 sometime last week and that's when it stopped working. The Macbook Pro updated just this morning and stopped working as well.
I click on File > Create > PDF from scanner, which then brings up the Acrobat Scan window. HPScan shows up as the default scanner and click the scan button leaving the usual default options unchanged. The HP Scan window then pops up and I click scan. The document scans and appears in the HP Scan window; so far so good. It will ask me if I want to scan other pages, to which I click no. I then click the return button as usual. Normally this would then return me to back to Acrobat, but this is not happening. It just hangs there at the HP Scan window. This started happening when Acrobat updated to 11.0.6. If I go into the Acrobat preferences and change the Scan driver option under Conver to PDF from Twain to ImageCapture it works. It used to work with the TWAIN option.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
We are investigating this issue and will get back to you once we have any updates.

  • Adobe Acrobat XI: Create PDF from Scanner

There is a lengthy (2-minute) delay for the scanner window to appear when attempting to Create PDF from Scanner with Adobe Acrobat XI (11.0.09) and Mac OS X 10.10 (14A389).  I am using a Canon LiDE 100 scanner, and the latest Canon scanner driver:
LiDE 100 Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8/10/9/10.10): This product is a TWAIN-compliant scanner driver for Canon color image scanner.
There is a thread on this subject on the Adobe Community discussion forums at https://forums.adobe.com/message/6852245#6852245

  • How can I change the file version for scanned PDFs to 1.4 when using the "PDF from Scanner" feature from Acrobat XI? By default it's always saved as 1.5.

Because our IT system can only handle PDFs with versions up to 1.4, we need to "PDF from scanner" feature to store the scanned PDFs in version 1.4.
Acrobat 9 always saved it in 1.4, but starting with Acrobat X, the PDFs are saved in 1.5.
There must be a setting or configuration somewhere where I can change this.
I already tried modifying the distiller's standard joboptions, but that did not work.
    Thanks for any help

We use in our software an open-source pdf library that only supports pdf versions up to 1.4. I know it is old, but it's not that simple to exchange it.
But I just had a look into the Actions as you suggested. This way I get it to work. It costs one additional click, so that's acceptable.
    Thanks for the support.

I have Acrobat 9.5 and when I try to create>pdf from scanner, it displays an error "Adobe acrobat has stopped working". Is there any way I can use this functionality?

Provide you have Acrobat 9 installed in an OS for which Acrobat 9 is compatible then you can use the functionality.
As well, you need a scanner connected, powered up, and the software installed. Acrobat 9 "prefers" TWAIN drivers.
Always visit the scanner vendor's site and download - install the latest greatest software.
n.b., The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year 2013.
As well the Acrobat 9.x product family is not compatible with contemporary OSs.

How can I scan single pages (an old tax return) to create one multi-page PDF? I saw a reply on how to do it in Windows, but not using OS X. Any assistance would be appreciated as I need to get this done for legal reasons.

    Hello @txrun ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you would like to scan multiple pages into on PDF document.
    I would like to help.
It really depends on how you are scanning.
Are you using Apples Image Capture or HP Scan?
If you are using HP Scan, it should be quite simple.
    Scan the first page.
You should have a preview of the page on the left hand column of the window.
You will also have a little plus sign found at the lower left hand corner of the window.
Change the page on the scanner glass then click the little plus sign.
If you are using the Apple Image Capture, you will have to change the format from JPEG to PDF.
This will cause a little box to appear under it, that will say 'combine multiple pages into single file'
Check this box and proceed to scan.
    Hope this helps you.

    Hi miketayber,
We would love to help, but need to know a bit more to get to the root of the problem. Please tell us:
What version of Acrobat are you using
    What operating system you're on
Whether you've been able to scan previously
What you're scanning to (do you have the latest drivers?)
Is there an error message or number associated with the crash?
We look forward to hearing back from you.
