Acrobat 9 Pro, making edge of book scanning pages darker

Thank you for reading my post,
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro with Windows Vista to scan a hardcover book. Since it is hardcover, it is hard to press enough to get a good scan on the end of the pages, so I get light letters that I would like to get darker. So far I have not found a way to do this inside of Acrobat, so at the moment I am extracting the troubled pages out of the document, use photoshop's burn tool over the light end areas, saving the page and adding it to the main document. Even though this works, it is extremely labor intensive. There have to be a better and easier way! Any ideas?
Book was scanned (not OCR) at 300 resolution with scanner CanoScan LiDE700F
I still have several pages to correct so your help would be greatly appreciated,
Jordan

Something to play with:
Acrobat provides "Edge shadow removal"
(the dark edge produced when what is scanned is not flush between platen and cover of scanner.
Try a setting of "Aggressive".
In Acrobat 8 - File > Create PDF > From Scanner
In the Acrobat Scan dialog, Document pane - click the Options button for 'Optimization'.
This brings up the dialog that contains settings for Filtering.
Alternatively, click Document > Optimize Scanned PDF
The associated dialog provides for user configuration of Filtering settings.
Similar approach for Acrobat 9.
However,  for File > Create PDF > From Scanner click on "Configure Presets".
The Document > Optimize Scanned PDF for Acrobat 9 is similar to Acrobat 8.
Be well...

  • Acrobat Pro 8 will only print first page of pdf at 11x17

Hello all. When I try print 11x17 from Acrobat Pro 8 only the first page prints. I have tried several printers and all do the same. I have tried entering page numbers rather than leaving it on print all. I have tried printing 11x17 from other applications and it works fine. And I am able to print 8.5x11 from Acrobat just fine. I've tried searching all sorts of forums and I cannot seem to find any information on this particular problem. Suggestions anyone? I need to get this resolved...it is highly annoying since we print many 11x17 documents on a daily basis.

Since Acrobat is not an Apple product, you would probably be better off posting your question on Adobe's own forums as they would be geared more toward the issue than an Apple forum:

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0 freezes on "next page" command on document

I have gotten stuck where my Acrobat 8 Pro crashes every time I hit "next page" button on a certain document. Document works fine in Windows and with Preview. Acrobat crashes everytime. From system log, message is:
    Oct 25 18:30:47 PerryMacintosh /Applications/Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional/Adobe Acrobat Professional.app/Contents/MacOS/Acrobat[341]: installAutoFSMonitor: open failed
    Any ideas?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
From the application's menu bar, select
    File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Start up in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Restart as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

  • While creating a PDF document usinf Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, it generates additional blank pages.

While creating a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, it generates additional blank pages. How do I resolve this issue?

I might make a wild guess that you are using WORD and have used hard page breaks. If that is the case, then likely what happens is when you print to PDF the document is being reflowed to match the printer and the forced page break may end up on the next page and be forcing a second page. Just a guess.

  • Need to extract faces and names from a multi-portrait high school year book scanned page

I am responsible for generating individual high school student portraits (5" x 7") from scanned 600 dpi pages of portraits from my high school beacon (year book). There are 16 - 20 black and white portraits per page and there are between 800 and 850 students in my graduating class.
The end product is taking an estimated 850 portraits from multi- portrait pages and convert them into individual 5" x 7" B&W photos.
Attached is one of the pages of portraits to experiment with. Other than selecting each individual portrait and pasting it into a new image from the clipboard, I don't know of a faster way to do it. This will nearly take forever.
Might there be a way to create a grid of selections template that applies to each page and extracts the portraits and names separating them into individual images?
I couldn't download a sample for some reason. The portraits are arranged 4 wide and 5 down like below table but without the header.  The names are below the faces. If one of you has an idea, I could email the full size image to you.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    Header 3
    Header 4

    Nothing shows up.
    1. Go to www.pixentral.com
    2. Put your cursor in the blank provided for the upload (where it says your image)
    3. Click on the Browse button
    4. When the "Choose File" box pops up, navigate to where your photo is stored, click on your photo file, then at the bottom of the box, click the Open button
    5. It will come back to Pixentral with the path to your photo shown in the blank
    6. Now on the Pixentral screen, click on the Send button
    7. Once your photo is loaded (you'll see it on the Pixentral screen) scroll down to the bottom of the photo where you'll see two lines of text, one that says HTML and one that says Forum
    8. You need to copy all of the text in the box after "Forum"
    9. An easy way to select it is to triple click on the text OR drag your mouse all the way from the first character to the last character of the text
    10. Once it is selected, press Ctrl-C to copy it
    11. Then go to your message on the forum here and paste your link by pressing Ctrl-V

  • Acrobat Pro 7.0 Crashes while adding page links

My client has supplied a 238 page Acrobat document. They would like me to add page links to the Table of Contents page for each chapter.
When I try to set the page links Acrobat shuts down for not apparent reason.
I've tried on my MacBook Pro running OSX and Windows running XP PRo. Both machines are running 2 gigs of RAM with all the software updates.
I've tried to close all applications that might be running. Same results.

Did anyone ever get an answer from Adobe to this problem? I am having almost the same issue, only it's when I try to edit the properties of the Go to a page view link function. I have a main document that has several additional PDF files attached within it. Within those files, I have created destinations so that when I link them up, I can actually link to the correct location in the document. When I create a link, and then try to go to the properties of that link to set up Open in a new window and to set the destination location, Acrobat crashes without an error. It just closes with all changes lost. I have tried this on three different computers at my office, my home computer, and have even tried to complete the links with version 7.0 Professional. That same problem occurs. I have called their Tech support, and they sent me a "TechNote" for "Troubleshoot system errors or freezes" for Acrobat 8.x.. I went through every possible solution that they had, but it never fixed the problem. I asked the customer service person if this was a "known problem", and he said "not officially, but it happens". Is there anyone out there who can help me resolve this?? I need to have this functioning. Thanks.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.3.0 and scanning using Kofax VRS

Hi there. I really hope someone is able to help - I'm totally stuck and I've already been though the Kofax customer support here in the UK.
When I scan into VRS using my Fujitsu fi-6770 scanner (VRS twain driver) the preview window pops up showing my scanned image. The preview image usually looks great but whenever I click ok to finish scanning I'll end up with a really terrible looking image in Acrobat.
I have attached an example below. I'm tring to scan colour photo's in greyscale and this is the result I'm getting. It appears that Acrobat is converting greyscale to black and white and I cannot figure out why this is happening
I really have tried everything. Kofax sent me a replacement scanner which was giving the same results tested in both Windows 7 and XP. I've had 4 engineer visits and tried numerous versions of Acrobat - all giving the results as above. I have been through the preferences panel in Acrobat but nothing stands out to me.
I know this is an issue with Acrobat as I can use the VRS driver in different software and I'll get the result image as expected. Acrobat is somewhat faster at communicating with the scanner than the other software though - ideally I'd like to solve this to help cut down processing time.
Specs of the machine I'm using are below. This is a HP Compaq dc7900 with updated drivers:
    Windows 7 Pro x64
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400
    4GB mem
Can anyone help? Anyone had similar problems in the past?
    Thanks in advance
    R

Thanks but I've tried this already. The results are varied even with the JPEG set in greyscale settings. I've actually been through all of the various image options trying to get a good result. Occasionally the photo on the front side scans correctly while the reverse side looks as if it has been through a black and white photocopier. The engineer had the same trouble when scanning, its not just me! I'm not filled with confidence when a engineer shrugs his shoulders and says "I don't know"
The only way I have been able to get around this is by downloading and installing the trial version of Kofax Express.
Been using Kofax Express all afternoon today and the images look great. I've spent more than two weeks trying to get this sorted, two weeks of putting jobs on hold and telling customers they'll have to wait..
I can't possibly wait any longer. If this is a common problem then someone needs to provide the documentation. Either way I've spent a lot longer on this than I'm prepared to..

  • Acrobat Pro XI Create PDF from web page will only create first page.

Whether I try from within Acrobat or using the convert button on the Adobe toolbar my PDF cuts off at the bottom of page one and will not create subsequent pages including the rest of the webpage content.  I've played with several settings.  Any idea why?

I think I might have this problem too. Only difference is I am using Acrobat Standard. I have Acrobat Standard X on another pc and it works fine. An example of a web site page is https://connectonline.asic.gov.au/RegistrySearch/faces/landing/SearchRegisters.jspx?_adf.c trl-state=1766qhwwjv_4 I am in Australia. I hope you have access to this page where ever you are. Towards the bottom of the web page, there is a list of 3 documents. On my other pc, I can convert to pdf the whole page but on this pc, I only get one page.

  • Making an e book in Pages

Does anyone know how to fine turn an e book made with Pages ?  I have been trying to produce an ebook but when the Pages document is converted - the page layout is often different. I have done them as PDF's and they do come out as written - but I would like to be able to do it as the epub format for use on the ipad.

We don't know much about iPad in this forum so we are not aware what might be happening. Have you posed the question in the iPad forum? There is a forum for iWork on iPad.

  • Acrobat Pro: Making timecode visible in embedded sound files?

Hello.  I teach music history courses.  For copyright purposes (i.e., to prevent music theft), I am embedding sound files in PDFs for student use.  Some of my commentaries have timing cues (e.g., Horns enter at 3'38"), but I've not found a way to make the timecode visible to the students.
Time codes are, of course, a standard feature on most music players (iTunes, Quicktime, WMP, etc.), as well as on many Flash players.  It seems reasonable that the media player in Acrobat should have a similar feature, even if disabled by default.  But if it does, I have been unable to locate or enable it.  Does such a feature exist on Acrobat?
If not, does anyone have a recommendation for a possible alternative?  Thanks.

You do know that as of Acrobat 9.0 you are able to include Flash Movies in PDFs. Now as to how that works I couldn't tell you as I haven't used Flash much even though I have it as part of Studio 8.

  • Problems using Acrobat Pro to scan with 10.5.2 and HP7280

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to use Acrobat Pro to create PDF via scan. The scanner I have is an HP Photosmart C7280 all in one. When I try to use it, it starts up HP Scan Pro and gives option is scan to Acrobat. Unfortunately, when I ask it to do so, it crashes Acrobat.
Any ideas on what to do to make this work?
    Thanks

BTW: whats with this Îικε stuff.
    As for Adobe/HP.
They have had a long running feud of Sorts for years running.
there was a very long period that spanned several versions of Acrobat, and HP Print Driver Updates. where every time adobe issued an update for Acrobat. Hp had to turn around and issue an update to their print Drivers.
The controversy swilled around If a Pdf was printed through acrobat or Reader to an Hp Printer all you would se was a series of very fine line screwed sideways much like looking at a TV screen the Horizontal hold adjustment was out of whack.
I'm sure Aandi , and Mike as well as myself posting thousands of times over the years to use the work around of going to print menu advanced and choosing print as image. And if it cleared the problem, to get on the horn with HP and let them know their driver was broken.
HP would fix it it work for a month and Adobe would do another update, and the same thing would happen.
It would be like the joke about Peat and repeat sat on a fence. If Peat fell off who's left? Pete. Then you would say repeat. And the person telling everything would repeat until you caught on.
You would think that a Software That depending highly on how printers would print would actually have sample of printers from the printer vendors to test on.
I also find it strange you never hear of any other printers having as much problems with adobe products.

I am on Mac Yosemite, using Acrobat Pro, trying to initiate a scan through "Create" a document from scanner (Xerox 6015NI, newly installed). Acrobat allowed me to pick the scanner in the first dialogue window, but when I pressed "scan", a new dialogue box pops up and tells me it cannot find scanner and suggested there may be some address issues... How can I fix this? The Xerox documentation that came with the machine is limited at best...

    Hi,
Did you try to remove the scanner manually from system preferences and then add the scanner again? does the error also occur when you use image-capture?
